Showing off your outfits [2]

Hi all. The old topic was archived in early 2017, but I thought it'd be a good idea to bring it back. There have been a ton of content since and quite a bit of skins. Personally I really enjoyed the Victorian collection but others were good as well. Well, if you got any cool outfit sets you wish to share - post it here!

I'll start

Playstation Shared Unlocks

I know it wasn't announced as a supported platform but could we get an update on where shared unlocks for Playstation stands? Is it something we should hold our breaths for? Or are platform licensing and distribution agreements in their current form preventing or making it financially unfeasible?

Why can't we have an actual Metal boat as an upgrade to the normal boat? :(((

Wickerbottom refresh?

On today's update, the teaser had nothing to show, except it mentioned to not lose sleep over the next update. Knowing Klei, this could be a cutesy jab at the next rework. Could it possibly be Wickerbottom? "Don't lose sleep over it though"

The Curse of Moon Quay is Now Available!

Batten down the hatches survivors, we got another swell update for you! In one of our largest updates to date, we've got all kinds of good stuff for you today.

The Curse of Moon Quay

Someone has been meddling... or should we say, monkeying around with the forces of the Constant, leaving an unstable rift between worlds in their wake. With new sea-faring foes, creatures and resources now free to pour into the Survivors' world, the ocean is more dangerous than ever before... but is this just the start of what's to come?

Once again, thanks to everybody that helped us with bugs and feedback during the beta

NOTE: PlayStation and Xbox players will be getting this earlier than originally posted. Against all odds, the team managed to pull everything together in time to get this out to you sooner than expected. We now expect this to be out today or tomorrow. However, this isn't entirely under our control, so it's not impossible for it slip to early next week. The update is now available on Xbox and PlayStation!

For New Features see the spoiler below:

That's all for now!
And here's the part where I say some stuff about what we have next. We're not that far away from the next character refresh. Unfortunately, there isn't a single frame from the next short that won't be some sort of spoiler. We only have a few survivors left. So we're just gonna have to remain tight-lipped this time. Don't lose sleep over it though, we'll have plenty for you to checkout soon.

See ya soon!

Ask a Dev

Title speaks for itself.

Now, lets just imagine, if you were given an opportunity to ask DST developer a qustion... What would it be?

I'll start

1. What was that "ocean_silhouette"?A boss or perhaps, something more? It really does look gigantic, like Bigfoot from DS RoG!

2. Are  Wolfgangs wimpy form is aftermath of using powers from Codex Umbra?

3. Is Wilsons hands are claw-shaped because of nightmare throne doings? Or is it just artist  style?

4. Does Wilson have medical knowledge? He can perform first aid in Forge event, and have doctor themed skin in Gorge!

Now its your turn! Ask your qustions,  and if we get lucky, an actual Dev might answer some of our qustion!

Forgotten Lore

What pieces of lore do you think will never get addressed?

For me, it's these two:

  • During the gorge, Mumsy says another survivor passed through their dimension before. I think we'll never know who that was.
  • Why do the salt stacks look like people?

Does Wonkey have any new quirks? Any changes to mob AI, Queen's drops, items etc? New art, sounds, music?

next stage of portal?

$

as we could see in the new video, there is a new portal, andd it realy looks close to the florid/jurry rigged/moon portal, a wagstaff portal you may sayimage.thumb.png.79b4d7a411401e74494a47513e299db8.png

and on the left there, it kind of looks like the moon energy wagstaff took from the moon champion, as some sort of generator, and whats left from the portal is metal scraps, and a 1 way portal, that keeps spitting out things, wich i asume is some sort of portal explosion because the moon energy was too much, and then wagstaff just ran away, for somereasons, so what you think?

... and prohibit shadow choppers from destroying the immature palmcone trees just like knobbly trees. Killing the young trees obliterates the massive effort invested to get them. Not even walls can protect them...

DST Skins Checklist (Updated: 06/30/2022)

$
0
0

The DST Skins Checklist has been designed to help you more easily keep track of your DST skins collection.  This can be done by manually checking off items or by directly syncing the checklist with your inventory on Steam.

The layout is fairly rustic, but it lets you view, filter, and search the skins you own, have duplicates of, or are missing in the game.  All save data is stored locally on your computer (in your browser's Local Storage).

The checklist is a single HTML file (images are all embedded) and can be used online or from your desktop:

For best compatibility, open the file using Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox; some features may not function properly in other browsers.

I originally made this for my friends and I to keep track of our skins collection, but I thought I'd also share it here.  The layout is fairly rustic, however, it does its job.

The checklist lets you save & filter items based on collection, character, color, rarity, and whether you own an item or not.  I've also included links to each skin's Steam page.

You can view the code, download, or preview the checklist here:

To use, save the HTML file to your computer and open it with your browser.  Alternatively, you can use the live preview link above, but Google Drive is discontinuing HTML web hosting at the end of August; so, the preview will cease to work after then.

The skin images are embedded (via base64 encoding) into the HTML file, so the file size is ~1.25MB.  Saving uses the Local Storage of your browser, so your save will be lost if you clear your browser's cache and/or site data.  Javascript also needs to be enabled to use the interactive features.

Here are a few screenshots of what Version 1.0 looks like:

Thievery???

What can these pesky thieves steal from? Can they steal from Chester? What about fridges or backpack inventory? What has been your favorite method for keeping your high value loot? Any new strats you've come up with to deal with this ocean menace?

Just thought this would be a good place to share what you've learned while on the beta

We haven't had a good Wortox skin in a while.

Am I the only one who thinks this? I feel like we've strayed further and further from our fur-covered imp friend, and dwelled towards a more gargoyley-like demon style. I don't think it looks very good, either. The last "good" skins we got for Wortox were the dragonic, verdant and snowfallen skins. The no-eyed deer one is meh, and it's just been downhill from there. I know it seems like I'm only hating on three skins, but Wortox almost never gets any skins, in general, so that's a big deal. I'm extremely disappointed with the new pirate skin, as well. The side-profile is especially awful. Anyone else agree? I want our old imp boy back.

Introducing, Klei Rewards

We are introducing a system that will allow players to collect "points" on their accounts by doing various things like subscribing to our Youtube or following us on Twitter and then use those points to get items. Currently we will be using this to distribute our out of cycle Twitch items rather than selling them as we had previously suggested. This allows players to get what they missed before or just get them without going through Twitch.

The first version of this can be found on our accounts page here: https://accounts.klei.com/account/rewards

In the future we will update the rewards program with new ways to earn more points and pick up cool rewards they may have missed, or even possibly entirely new stuff. Let us know what you think!

VERY CRAZY THEORY!!! TERRARIA?

Klei has always had a reputation for dropping very subtle hints about their games that we might commonly overlook, but this time? I might have JUST made a substantial discovery!

In terraria, after going through a day with an extra house and no new NPCs currently available, the game checks a random chance of if the party girl will move into the vacant home. And if you haven't played Terraria before you might not understand who the party girl REALLY is. Yeah, that's right...

SAME EXACT "PERSON"

Quote from the Terraria wiki:

"Redigit and Cenx have stated that the Party Girl was inspired by the character Pinkie Pie from the Canadian-American children's animated fantasy television series My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic.[3][4] The names Sparkle and Trixy are likely references to the characters Princess Twilight Sparkle and Trixie from the same series."

But why would I suspect that the party girl might be coming up into Don't Starve Together? Well, and this is a very exciting discovery for me.

KLEI REPLICATES THE NAME REFERENCES IN DST!!!

And just like Terraria they reference some MLP characters in the randomly generated names. You can check for yourself, if you like! Twilight Sparkle and Spike the Dragon.

Anyway, you still might not believe that the party girl from Terraria is actually Pinkie Pie from My Little Pony, but I also have another character to bring up, too. And a small feature in Terraria that may just prove that they aren't who they say they are.

Spoiler

In Terraria, most female characters will get irritated and behave strangely because of a blood moon. Except for two, the Party Girl and the Princess.

This seems to be a joke about women having their periods...

Some fans have speculated that this is because they are transgender, others probably think it's just a feature that wasn't added to these two NPCs. But what I think is that the real reason is that they aren't actually humans, they're ponies.

BECAUSE PONIES DON'T HAVE PERIODS!!!

There are also two Kitcoon names that I never got to, and they might be the key to a massive question...

If you didn't know, Princess Luna is the sister of Princess Celestia, who's the Ruler of Equestria throughout My Little Pony FiM. And ofcourse, Charlie is the current ruler of The Constant!

So that leads me to believe that the mysterious "Them" DS has always referred to are none other than

PRINCESS CELESTIA AND PRINCESS LUNA!

But I haven't said who the Princess from Terraria is supposed to be. And this might sound weird, but I think she is the character Rarity from MLP!

This is mostly because she sews her own dresses, she might've left Equestria and changed her identity to live the life of a princess, which has always seemed to be the kind of thing this character would want. Here are some quotes from Terraria that help with my case:

"The stars at night remind me of glitter on a beautiful, black dress. I shall soon have one made!"

"Like my dress? Gee, thanks! Just sewed it."

"Mmm! This place could use a makeover, for sure. It's not quite fit for anyone, let alone royalty!"

This just might be the reason Klei got sold mostly to Tencent, because Tencent has worked with Hasbro (company that owns MLP) and that might get them closer to achieving this kind of thing they had planned! Also, the money might help with negotiating royalties.

A thread like this existed before but I'm afraid it fell deep into the archive, so here is a new one. You can post funny, odd and terrible pictures that you made while playing DST.

Here are some from my collection:

Love this one because it looks like as if the third bunny from the right (not counting the bunny behind the hut) is throwing the small bunny.

Boat Skins are a ripoff.

$

Alright so. You've seen the title, you know what I'm on about. But what do I mean when I say that Boat skins are a ripoff? Well, a few things really.

To begin, most of you probably noticed that Klei released the first boat skins in today's patch. And this is awesome! Boats are cool, and boat skins are also cool. Buuuut there's a bit of a problem.

image.png.a9f1b3c244bdf005e79cef8184e3b7e2.png

Notice anything weird here? See that rectangle on the side? Yeah, apparently Boat skins and plank skins are separate from one another. This, quite frankly, is completely asinine for a variety of reasons. And allow me to explain why.

1. It doubles the spool cost of boat skins.

Both the boat skins and the plank skins are full price to weave at 1350 spools. And obviously you can't just craft a boat or a plank. They are always going to be; for all intents and purposes; one and the same. You just can't have a boat without a deck, or a deck without a boat. so, unless you want your high-quality metal boat to have a flimsy wooded plank, then you better hope you have some extra spools saved up.

2. It's inconsistent.

Historically speaking, whenever 2 or more objects are directly tied together, unlocking 1 skin will also unlock skins for any derivatives. For example, Starcaller staff skins inherently come with a mooncaller staff skin. Many spear skins come with modified versions for fire and ice staves. And Grass hat skins also unlock skins for the miner helmet. However, the best example is probably the Telelocator focus. Like the boat, the Focus is technically comprised of 2 seperate structures. The three pylons, along with the focus itself between them. But unlike the boat, you only need 1 skin for both structures. If you have; say; the Hallowed telelocator focus skin. Then you have a hollowed telelocator focus. You don't a Hollowed focus skin and a hollowed Pylon skin. So then why is it that the boat and the plank are separate?

3. It's inconvenient

As said earlier, one doesn't just craft a plank. The plank itself is crafted as part of the boat. However, because the skin for the plank is completely seperate, the plank will always be the default one when you deploy the boat. If you have both of the Wagstaff skins for the boat/plank respectively. Then deploying the scrap metal boat won't come with an escape exit gang plank. It'll just be a default plank. This isn't as bad as it could be, sense the recipe for the Clean Sweeper was made way cheaper. But it's still pretty annoying to need an entirely separate item just to have a visually coherent boat.

4. Some skins get left out.

Now, 2 skins have actually been added for the boat today. The Scrap Metal boat and the Abandon ship. So why haven't I brought up the latter one yet?

image.png.e0e01e69b34f0e6fc0abb8602fedf500.png

There is no Abandon variant of the plank. Perhaps they're planning to release it later as a separate twitch drop. But until that happens; or if you happen to miss that drop for one reason or another; you're damned to have a mismatching boat because apparently you can't make a plank out of driftwood.

So ultimately, we have to pay extra spools for a pair of skins to be applied on a single object that may not even have both skins. I am genuinely mystified on what could have led to this being the case. Maybe Klei wanted players to be able to mix and match boat and plank skins? Maybe the coding used for boats is a hot mess? Who knows? But really, these two objects should have just been a single skin. No doubt 'bout it.

So Cannons... viable in a fight? Against Bosses?

So toss a few friends on a boat, build a few cannons... 100 damage each, per shot, 15 shots. Just how viable are these things?
