Cave based resources feels kind of "stiff"

With the new update out now we got new resources like transplantable reeds and transplantable bananas that even grows on winter. This got me to think that a lot of surface resources are very flexible in terms of what you can do with them be it moving them or growing them yourselves. I can't say the same thing with the cave reasorces, I feel like a lot of the stuff are stuck to one place with your only option of interaction is to pick or destroy it. Like wouldn't it be cool to grow your own mushtrees, move lichen around, move lightbulb plants around as decor lighting, and even get banana tree saplings from banana trees? I feel like this would make caves alot more interesting to design base around complementary to your surface one. If this seems a bit OP we can restrict cave reasorces to the caves and have the plants wilt if planted in the surface. I feel like overall the caves needs a huge glowup but that's another thread topic.


Does the monkey island portal appear before killing celestial champion?

Supposedly wagstaff uses the energy from the champion (or a portion of it) which causes the portal found on the monkey island to appear. In my world, I've already killed the champion, and the portal is there, which makes sense, but what if I hadn't killed it? Would the portal be there?

Curse of the moon quay update contradicts gameplay?

In the animation we can see that Wagstaff used moon energy from defeated Celestial Champion to create a portal and thus unnatural portal and docks appeared, but in game they are already here when you create a new world(where champion is not "killed" yet). I know it's a convention of the game, but it's still pretty funny

Boats are not affected by Clean sweeper

So I just got the twitch drop skin for the boats and I was hoping I could resking a bunch of boats I had on my mega base but there is no way to interact with existing boats to change their appereace in game and destroying the 50+ boats to build them again with the new skin sounds awful....

Will there be a way to switch skins of existing boats someday?

How would you change combat as a whole, if you could?

I like the all the bosses and enemies in DST and one of the things I feel could be improved though is the combat. Fighting is either a matter of hitting and running away, or needing enough resources to outlast the boss (Crab King and Toadstool are notorious for this).

Making combat more skillful and intuitive would freshen up this game's bosses and encounters drastically. Movement abilities like dashes and dodges (based on character), certain special attacks with certain weapons (slashing for swords, slamming for clubs, thrusting for spears/javelins, etc), miscellaneous/magical abilities (based on character), and much more would make fighting more fun no matter which direction is taken. Overall putting more emphasis on skill instead of only being prepared enough.

What do you guys think? Would a combat rework be a nice addition? Any ideas of your own?

But why in the hell I can make a Shake  with a morsel and 3 bananas and not a banana?

July 20th 2022 - Let's all appreciate slurpers on this day and do something special for them. A play pen. A monument.

Why July 20th? Well, it's close to when the "Hungry for your hunger" update came out. This update added slurpers which were the update's namesake. 

So this July 20th and the many to come, let us all be "Hungry for eachother's hunger!"

The map constantly zooms out.

I don't know if this is the appropriate place to ask that, or if it's a bug or something that I don't understand but here we go.

So since the new patch yesterday my map constantly zooms all the way out when I reopen it. It doesn't happen every time, and I cannot understand what triggers it. Currently using the normal settings (bumped up the scrolling sensitivity a bit for faster zooming in) and the minimap mod(also with normal settings).


Is Klei cutting corners?

Let's cut to the chase, shall we?

Ever since Turn of Tides every new plant that grows food is able to grow during winter. Either Klei is cutting corners with that part of the code or that is an intentional decision, in which case, that is a dumb decision as 1- it doesn't make sense for tropical plants to grow durring winter and 2- stocking up on food before the season hits was part of the challange and fun.

Less effort put into character quotes. As far as I've seen, in the newest update characters have the same quote for Banana Bush/Monkeytail when it's fully grown, harvested, dug up and withered. 4 states of the plant, 1 quote for them all

These things I haven't checked yet but I assume that characters also have the same quotes for Crustenshine both regular and in inventory as well as same quotes for new trees/moneky houses regular and burned

woodie mains, how do you survive in a world with the moon storm event running?

firstly, i am not a woddie main, and the last time i played him, i didnt like so much the transformations every full moon, because you drop your hand and head item, even if i transformed into weregoose, i didnt want to leave my walking cane on the ground because i feared dont remembering where it was, also the fact u become woodie again with 0 hunger, it was very sad having 150 of hunger and in just a moment having 0.

also, I couldnt use his weremoose form to fight very wel (the 0,9x speed is very hard to kite, and the same for charging, it was very hard for me to properly use charging to dodge), otherwise, weregoose was very good to ocean exploration, and werebeaver wanst that good for me, since werebeaver dont spawn tree guards, and i need living logs to craft dark swords, and in the process of spawning tree guards I also get lots of wood. so yeah, i hadnt reason to use weremoose neither werebeaver (my bad if these two forms are actually good and the problem is my skill issue)

so, not so long ago, a person entered in the carrot bunch (endless server), and the server was with the moonstorm event activated and he/she chose woodie, then, that woodie died so many times, due to starvation until he/she left the server after many deaths.  Unfortunatelly, I couldnt help that woodie, i was far away from the pórtal and i was doing the wagstaff task in spring with heavy rain.

After this big text (and lots of grammar mistakes XD) I was curious about how you woodie mains survive the moonstorm event where every night is a full moon, and how do you kill celestial champion? the transformation in the middle of the fight isnt bad? or is it good?

i wonder, whats the actualy point of that feature even existing? like, it does nothing whatsoever, it is a litteral punishment for killing hostile creatures, i mean, you litteraly become a worse wilson, that disease/curse/mistake is just there, an anti feature if you so will, existing only for punishing with out any pay offs at all, it does not have any other usefull or plays with other mechanics of the game, it simply just exist, and im so sure if a mod exist to just remove the curse trinkets, nothing at all would change, so i wonder, what exactly is the point of that? and becoming monkey is not the answere, since thats the punishment for just playing the game

I want to say, that i originally had an hours worth of typing, but decided to shorten it. Tldr: the map is killing the ocean vibe and needs to be changed

im not saying go full archipelago either, just hear me out.

the main problems with the ocean as i see it are as follows: 

 

1: its far too large to ever be sailed around in a reasonable manner.

 

2: the small channels are nearly impossible to sail through and only add to the first problem. They worked well in dont starve and reign of giants. If we didnt have an ocean they would be perfect for dont starve together as well, but we do have an ocean.

3: there is no incentive to try to sail from one location to another, unless that location is “ocean content”, this leads to a strong feeling (at least for me) of ocean content being very separate from the “main game” as a result it can feel very gimmicky as well. 
 

4: in the exact same vein but from the opposite direction: i can only reach ocean content WITH A BOAT. We have caves that go underneath the entire map, why isnt there a cave entrance on the moon quay, with monkeys underground, or even in the wilds with the two monkeys having a constant thieving war? or from the lunar island leading to the grotto. It just makes the caves feel disconnected, when they should be connecting everything.
 

5: the islands are extremely separate from the mainland. This is the most clear in the fact that even when theres daily rewards for living on an island (good rewards too, and the island isnt small either) it still is so remote from the mainlnd that no one even considers living there. Because they’d have to sail to the closest branch, park their boat, walk to the center of the map, and from there they can finally walk towards their destination.

what i suggest to solve these problems:

1: do away with branches. They’re literally anti fun at this point, we all just like them because they’re classic, we can still have some branches to the word, but everything branching off from one center point has got to go. 
this will solve sailing from place to place

2 stop centering the mainland. If the mainland is in the center of the map we have to put ocean on all sizes, this makes the current ocean HUGE with massive chunks of empty or functionally empty water between actual landmarks. 

This will help with sailing time, and make the map a little less awkward.

3: make the mainland smaller. I mean by like 30-40% take away every duplicate biome completely, reduce the size of existing biomes, make it have interesting shapes like a coastal swamp, make it U or bean shaped with a giant bay you can bounce around from location obviously we can have a branch leading to another location but we could use some real tapography. And most importantly, give it some REAL randomness, i swear after 200 hours ive seen every map and ive been playing a lot longer than that. But it needs to be perfectly functional still. Like 3 players need to be able to base there with no major problems. 
this will help with sailing time, and also provide a reason to expand: more space.

5: Now take all those removed biomes, and do something with them. Smaller second island? why not? Savanna attached to the lunar island? Sure. Moon quay with a deciduous biome with monkeys fighting random pig spawns because they ate their bananas? That sounds funny asf. Make it random and make it interesting. Make sure every island with 3 or more biomes has either a wormhole or a cave entrance. Preferably both. 

this is to put more content out in the ocean without too much additional effort. Theres no reason why there cant be a swamp island, aside from the fact that we already have two swamps. But it also provides ways to locate islands for players who dont like the sea content as much. 
 

6: start giving players some actual choice for how they get around. Honestly it feels like im railroaded into getting set up on the mainland, then once im ready, i can sail. The moon quay has only reinforced this feeling. I get set up then i go to the ocean, do what i need to do, then head back to base. I CAN rush the lunar island, but why is something a boatride away a rush? Connect the lunar island to the grotto, connect moon quay with idk the wilds and make it monkey on monkey. Tldr: make sure that the wx mains can still run their widdle heart out.

this is mostly a furtheration of the previous point. Its a sandbox, players should have some choice when it comes to how they get from place to place.

finally and most importantly:

7: make the old branches a world generation option.

we will all want to revisit it, but i genuinely think its a relic and quite frankly at this point, holding the game back. I love my rediculous branches, but they make sailing a pain.

 

Please, PLEASE let me know what you think. I genuinely think the map is TOO big and TOO awkward as is. Tell me if you agree, or disagree, and what you’d change about my suggestions.

Will the Funko Pop skins be re-distributed some other way?

With the discontinuation of the Don't Starve Funko Pops, we now have our first 4 tradable rare skins. From my experience in Runescape, tradable rares have never ended well. Players ended up hoarding them and dominating the market, charging outrageous prices for these tradable rares.

I'm just wondering if there are any plans to re-introduce these skins via drops or weaving them so this doesn't happen. Discontinued Don't Starve Funko Pops are already rising sharply, and there will eventually be no codes left to generate new skins.

Any unknown mechanic to share?

Do you know any game mechanic that could not be very popular, you use for your advantage and could let us know?

For example: If you feed a pig x4 monster meat and kill it, you get 2x meat and 1x pig skin; two out of three ingredients to prototype hambat, also, you can repeat the process to get pig skin without destroying pig houses.
