On the Topic of Mandrakes...
Why not make Mandrakes a really potent weed? Or a special weed-crop hybrid. Have it consume all nutrients in bulk, and stress other plants out. Maybe even make it rot if you don't take care of all 6 criteria (meaning it wouldn't have a giant variant). Limit it to 1 per tile too or something.
I think making it a very difficult plant to take care of with special conditions would be infinitely more enjoyable than limiting it to Klaus/deconstruction weirdness.
I don't think giving it seeds would be a good idea, but leaving it entirely up to low RNG doesn't sound great either.
Regardless, thoughts? Can't say I'm expecting anything less than harsh opposition, heh.
Wormwood plant synergy ideas!
So Wormwood was kinda nerfed this beta and I have some ideas to change that:
1. Ive always thought: "Wormwood hates hurting his plant buddies but most of the time it cant be helped." What if he could craft tree safe alternatives? A wood armor variant made from watermelon (reduces fire damage!) A pumpkin fire pit? Like a big ol candle can be refueled (replace/lengthen wick) with grass/twigs. Other stuff: An eggplant variant of the ham bat. A potato variant of the pig skin helmet (synergy with monster characters!). Something crazy? A dragon fruit cannon that shoots carrots, needs to be fueled by carrots and rots for balance reasons. Wormwood needs to be tethered to it from his gem giving it power (Can only have 1 and very slowly drains hp.Hp loss is negated by jelly beans).
2. Plants cared by wormwood can be feed living logs/nightmare fuel/gems to animate them? Plants vs zombies style. Potatoes hug/trap enemies. Watermelons shoot seeds etc. They also rot after some time and will have a gem at their center like wormwood does.
Why do the new crops look like alien plants?
I have no problem with adding new farming mechanics, but why are they SO UGLY.
They look like plants from an alien planet. They remind me of Thanos's farm. Why couldn't they just look like normal crops like from The Gorge? These look like mutant radiated plants.

My Opinions About Wickerbottom
Yes, I know they said they are gonna fix her but just want to say something.
Wickerbottom is one of the most interesting character (She didn't even get rework but she's still perfect). I really understand people want to nerf her because she is so strong. That's right, she is so strong but she is still one of the hardest character to play with it for news, because sanity system is really rare mechanic in games (which makes it really hard for first playing) and new players trying to keep sanity full while playing with characters. They are a little right bc it's not that easy to keep it full. The easiest way to full sanity is sleeping and news using it so much.
But veteran players know how sanity is easy to handle and most of good players don't have over %60 sanity at all. The only thing that annoying experinced players is sound effect of insanity (which they disable it with client mods). I usually use mushrooms, cactus and hats (or killing shadow creatures) to handle my sanity because sleeping is waste of time.
Taking powers from character is never welcome for me. No matter what is it. I really hate when reworks change characters at all. I really didn't like Woodie rework, not because he is stronger (All reworks make characters stronger), I talk about curse mechanics. It's totally not a curse. Werecurses must be annoying, they should pop up in anormal times and make us to have to be carefull about it. But woodie rework make him basicly a wizard. He turns whatever he wants and this curses are like british army knife. He turns Werebeaver when needs wood and stone, turns weregoose when needs wander around and he turns weremoose when need to fight. He don't does these jobs because he turn them, he turn them because he want to do these jobs.
About Wickerbottom, like I said before She is a 20th centuary witch. She probably learned those things from forgotten places, temples and maybe from demons. She use his powers by cost of sanity because those are terrifying knowledges. If you know the lovecraftian things, you know what I mean. Maybe that's why only she and maxwell can read it because they are both saw terrifying things. Except Wurt, she is a dumb, who just looking pictures and don't understand. I'm telling this because I saw few persons saying Wormwood should take those powers. No, wormwood should not. Wormwood is just a plant. Does it make sense to a plant grow another plant with no magic? Aplied Horticulture is best and most usefull book of Wickerbottom. Other ones is usable for few things like traps, emergency meat/soul, boss fight and overcharing. Removing or nerfing this book like that will kill Wickerbottom. There will be really no reason to use her again.
So what Klei should do? Probably they finished her and waiting right time to share but I just wanted to share my ideas.
-New shared book recipe is fine. Maybe they can make cost a little higher. (But it's fine for now)
-Aplied Horticulture should effect 15 or 20 PLANTED PLANTS (farms) on screen which nearest to reader.
-Aplied Horticulture should effect other plants same. Full grown plant's should not be effected by it, including trees too.
-Should not be able to use if sanity is lower than cost. I mean if you want o read "on tentacles", you should have over 50 sanity.
These are only thing I want to be change before rework. But next updates must be about sanity. That's probably would best and most satisfying way to nerf her. Making sanity mechanics harder will make her harder to play and her insomnia will be a real downside. She will be still good for veterans and more terrifying for news.
That was all. Thanks, if you read all of it and sorry for my english if it's annoyed you
Making multi-regional chest price list?
- The spreadsheet can now store prices from multiple regions at once, and picking any particular is done by a simple drop-down selection in the Chests sheet.
- The prices are calculated from base price and sale percentage, so updating on sales is going to be a lot easier.
Now the bad news:
- I can't actually get the prices from regions other than my own (without sketchy means like burner accounts, switching regions, etc). I made a simple lua function which I can put in customcommands.lua and after calling it within the game, it generates a list of known chests (packs), with base prices, sale percentages and sale prices (where applicable) - as a CSV file in the game's user folder (~/Documents/Klei...). I'm not sharing it (yet). as I'd love to hear from mods/devs (paging @ImDaMisterL) if it's OK to share the function and ask users from other regions to contribute the data. A sample of the output is shown in the attached image.
- The output data currently seems to be in no particular order. I'll see what I can do so that the order matches the spreadsheet.
Screenshot showcase
A thread like this existed before but I'm afraid it fell deep into the archive, so here is a new one. You can post funny, odd and terrible pictures that you made while playing DST.
Here are some from my collection:
Love this one because it looks like as if the third bunny from the right (not counting the bunny behind the hut) is throwing the small bunny.
My dear Wolfgang managed to trap himself while being sane and of course I mocked him by taking a screenshot and weeks later finding myself trapped in this too while being sane.
Wigfrid is able to fish in carpet. Who would have guessed.
Why i think reworked Woodie is more balanced than we thought at first
When Woodie's rework initially came out, i thought, like many others, that Woodie was sort of in the overpowered side. Heck, i even made a thread suggesting different ways his transformations could get forced onto people by different actions to sort of make him have more of a downside. But then it hit me, maybe he DOES have downsides, it's just that they're not obvious downsides or highly noticeable like Warly's pickiness, Wes' existence or Wormwood's lack of food heals.
Here's what i mean:
Woodie no longer has much of a downside that affects his human form besides from the doubled treeguard spawn (which many experienced players consider an upside rather) and while this technically makes him "better Wilson with an axe" his rough edges start showing when you start transforming:
- Every transformation (considering you're using totems) costs 20 health and 15 sanity to boot.
- cursed Woodie drains sanity at an amount almost comparable to the Tam o Shanter (which restores 6.7 p/m according to wiki) draining -6 p/m.
- When Woodie ceases to be transformed, he's immediately starving, meaning that even the most prepared of players is bound to take AT LEAST 1-4 starving damage (on top of the native idol damage i mentioned above)
- Though unlikely, he can't binge eat monster foods in a pinch since that would force him into a random transformation (which tends to be undesirable).
- Random transformations also occur at a full moon no matter what, though one can prepare and eat a desired idol right before night hits.
This is without taking into account the quirks of each transformation (moose has great power and defense but is slow and can't heal by himself without jellybeans or a Wortox; Goose can't harvest or do anything but run; werebeaver can't collect his farmed items until he's back to human form; whenever Woodie dies he stays transformed, most likely causing starvation at ressurrection) really hones in the point that Woodie's upsides are not without consequences, but rather that his downsides only come as a direct consequence of using his powers. And even if you were to tell me that you would never transform or chop that much and that it makes him just a better Wilson, then what would be the point of playing as him?
What d'yall think
Extra notes:
- I know insanity isn't a problem to most players, but it can be annoying even for the more experienced players during a boss fight or a farming session, not to mention new players lose their monkeys at insanity.
- I'm sorry i disrespected Wes, o' Wes worshipers.

Now in testing - Reap what you Sow
Hey Everybody,
Today we have a new update coming to the test branch, some new Twitch items and a login bonus item.
The team has been hard at work on the next major content update "Reap What You Sow". This is a pretty substantial update in terms of impact so we need your feedback on bugs and as well as tuning, so please don't be shy. To be clear, there are a lot of things we need to dial in to get the tuning right for this, so tell us what you think, this is not final.
There are a number of strings that have not been completed and there are still some items in development, such as the Composting Bin and the Lord of the Fruit Flies so this will be filled out more as we approach release.
Key Points
- Survivors can now plow fields and sow seeds to grow the crops of their dreams
- Each vegetable has their own unique plant with preferred growing seasons and type of nutrients
- Stay close and tend to your crops and you will be rewarded.
- Neglecting crops won't be the death of them, but you might regret it.
- Be sure to cull weeds before they become a problem
- Use the Gardeneer Hat to research plants and track your progress via the Plant Registry
- Farm like the Ancients with the Premier Gardeneer Hat and learn your plants’ every desire
Additional patch notes
- Players can now combine stacks of objects when the target is floating in the ocean.
- Disease has been removed from transplanted plants
- The random plant chosen from Seeds is now affected by the season
- Feeding a Bird in the Birdcage a veggie, will return one seed of the same plant.

- Adjusted the Bunnyman’s loot table
- Birds in the Birdcage will now eat raw monster meat but not cooked eggs
- Is not affected adversely by the Spiny Bindweed and Firenettles
- Can determine a plant’s needs without the use of technology
- Can still plant seeds anywhere, but some of the plant’s needs will not be met unless in a farm plot
- Affects up to 10 plants
- Transplanted plants, that require fertilizing, will have an extra harvest consumed
- Adjusted the recipe
For more details on joining the beta branch, you can see this post here.
While we don't have a live update right now, we do have some free stuff for you.
New streaming drops!
We are adding the Arcane Crystalarium to the Crystalline Collection. For more information on streaming drops and how to get them, check out our post here.
Login Bonus!
For a limited time, Log into DST and get the Straight Razor skin for free!
Simply make sure you have the game updated and log into the game with the update installed to get the items.
Up Next!
We're going to try to get Winter's Feast out for you all in a couple weeks. As with Hallowed Nights, we don't have any real changes to it this year since the team is focused on content updates. But we'll have some more free stuff and some new skins as well. Including, new skins added to the Snowfallen collection!
Shortly after that we expect the content update to release toward the middle of December and we'll make sure to tidy everything up before we head out on holiday break.
Till next time, Have fun out there!
Any unknown mechanic to share?
Do you know any game mechanic that could not be very popular, you use for your advantage and could let us know?
For example: If you feed a pig x4 monster meat and kill it, you get 2x meat and 1x pig skin; two out of three ingredients to prototype hambat, also, you can repeat the process to get pig skin without destroying pig houses.
Two harsh seasons
This is actually about me and some people rambling about which season is better.
So if you have to choose, which one do you think would suit you better when it comes to survivability?
I personally prefer Summer.
-This poll is just asking for opinions.
Don't Starve Together Roadmap 2020
Hey everybody. Just taking a moment to check-in and update you all with the roadmap for 2020.
Please note that roadmaps are provided to give the community a sense on what we are working on and what is driving our decisions for what we are focusing on in the coming year. None of this is a promise or a guarantee. We always prioritize quality over deadlines and all dates and timelines are estimated to the best of our current ability. Many long time fans will know that we often add new things to these plans which often shifts things around a bit, so it is recommended to avoid scheduling your vacation plans around our dates.
This roadmap is subject to change at any time, but as we have done in the past, if any of this does change significantly we will post new information as we have it.
A quick recap of 2019.
2019 was a fantastic year for DST. We added four new characters to the game and we refreshed three more characters. We also had three substantial content updates with Return of them: Turn of Tides, Salty Dog and Hook Line and Inker. We also saw big updates to our holiday events Hallowed Nights, Winter's Feast and Year of the Carrat. During all of that we hit our highest player concurrency record back in April (during a free weekend) and after that craziness had stabilized we just saw our second highest concurrency last week.
For those of you who aren't super into numbers, what that means is that Don't Starve Together is still growing quite nicely. This is also a clear indicator that our plan of character refreshes, content updates and new characters has been working to help keep a healthy community and continues to keep the game interesting for new and returning players.
On that note, we're still very aware that many people want to see events like The Forge and The Gorge come back. While we are not prepared for that right now, we do understand that this is something many of you are interested in and we are still discussing ways to address this in the future.
ReForged and Re-Gorge-itated are both super good so until we have something new we want to contribute, you should check those out.
Re-Gorge-itated: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1918927570
ReForged: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1938752683
Oh, and not for nothing, we took great strides in console support. We didn't always hit the mark, but most everything we can control directly has been working out quite well over the past year or so. We will continue improving console support as best we can through 2020.
What we're doing in 2020
We're going to continue with generally the same plan as last year. More character refreshes and content. However, at this time we aren't going to commit to a specific number of new characters. While the new characters were very well received and successful in selling well enough to help fund development we also don't want to add new characters just for the sake of it. With that being said we are currently in the process of creating at least one entirely new character for the future and we will have more information about them as we get closer to release.
For our update timeline, we expect that we will have something being launched at least once a month. We don't want to do more updates in a shorter period of time so we can be sure the updates are more substantial and interesting. Depending on how that lines up we may see a couple updates during some months and sometimes we may go a little past a month for the next update, but our goal is that you have something interesting to look forward too at least once a month.
Our first character refresh is a bit of a secret at the moment - but you might be able to guess. You will be seeing more info about that during the first or second week of March. For now, enjoy this small teaser from the update trailer we are working on.
Lore. Yep. I said Lore.
Something we know everybody wants is more lore. I am not going to say much more for now. But we know you want more lore. It would be smart from this point on to get back into scrutinizing things we put out for secrets. Not everything, but keep your eyes open. Not this post though. There are no secrets in this post. So scrutinizing this post would probably be a waste of your time. Probably. (But really, there is nothing to find here. You'll know when there is something to be found.)
While Maxwell enjoyed hiding little secrets for you to find and seemed to bask in your attention, Charlie has been quite content to work from the shadows, planning and patiently working to put her pieces into play. Things will become much more apparent as her plans become to take shape and she finally takes center stage.
The other stuff.
We're also going to continue doing other cool new things. We really want to work on Klei Rewards more and streaming items have been really popular so we're thinking of new and interesting things to do with these while continuing to support them throughout the year.
And finally.
We're also aware than some players would like us to make more substantial changes to the overall base game of Don't Starve Together and change things up a bit. While this is not a focus right now, we do understand this is something that is being discussed and I invite you to continue those conversations. Don't Starve Together isn't going away any time soon, so keep it coming.
All of your feedback really helps us figure out where we want to put our resources and it goes a long way in helping us decide which direction to steer the ship. You're all a huge part of the growth of DST and we couldn't have done it without you. Thanks for hanging out with us and sharing your fun stories and interesting ideas. Please keep sending us your thoughts and feedback and we'll keep trying our best to build the world of Don't Starve Together in new and interesting ways.
Have fun out there!
Self-sustainable combos for every season and efficiency analysis
Efficiency analysis: ideal combos
First things first: notice that each and every crop requires three different nutrients at various levels, but the requirement always sum to 0: nutrient-wise, farming is a zero sum game. See it another way, plants *transform* one nutrient into another, never really producing a nutrient. As a result, it is *impossible* to have a spatial or temporal combo that purely *produces* any nutrient as a net result. For those who prefer fancy talk, we can prove this by using the property of a matrix there row rank equals column rank.
To keep things easy, we want to not rotate over time, but only over space (within a single farm plot tile), so you can keep sowing and reaping the same thing over and over again.
Below are combos that I (and others, most likely) found, ordered from most viable to least viable. All of them are perfectly balanced: they do not consume nor produce nutrients. If plotted with proper configuration, they will always meet family requirement and produce Giant results.
Spatial configurations
You can use any configuration of plant location that satisfy family requirement, following the ratios shown in the tables below, not necessarily 4x4 at all. I'm using the following grid: 1 tile 4x4 crops:
+----+
aabb
aabb
ccdd
ccdd
+----+
Any combos with 2 or 4 varieties below can be used with this 1 tile 4x4 crops setup. Combos with 3 varieties can simply ignore one corner to keep it balanced, or rotate that single block over time. This 1 tile 4x4 crops is currently only possible with the Snapping Tills mod by surg:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2302837868
Nutrient requirement and equinutrient replacements
In any season, there are a few plants with the same nutrient requirements, thus can be used as a replacement for each other.
Autumn replacements: Carrot=Pumpkin, Potato=Eggplant
Winter replacements: Carrot=Pumpkin
Spring replacements: Potato=Eggplant, Corn=Asparagus, Onion=Pomegranade, Dragonfruit=Durian
Summer replacements: Onion=Pomegranade, Dragonfruit=Pepper.
Unique nutrient requirements with no replacement anytime: Garlic, Tomato, Watermelon.
Full table sorted by seasons availability and nutrient demand similarity:
WIP: I'd rather paste text instead of images. However, I need text to use a monospaced for the tables to be properly formatted. However, using monospaced in this forum seems bizarrely complicated. Still figuring out. Let me know if you know how. Until then, I'll just paste in screenshots...

Technically, you could replace Pumpkin with Carrot, but why? Unless you are going after bunnies...

Plz update the look of GoH Webber
Howdy! it's been a while since I posted something here.
I'm not sure if this is the right place for this sort of thing and this probably seems like the most nit-picky/minuscule thing ever but like I feel this skin would be soooooooo much better if the eyes matched up with the portrait of the skin similar to Wilson's and Wes's Guest of Honor skin
