how do i run dontstarve_dedicated_server_nullrenderer.exe in 64 bit because i run out of memory every time i get more than 5 people the server randomly closes

What do you consider to be a "biome"?

Perhaps this is my own personal issue, but I find it difficult to find a useful definition for "biome" in this game.

How would you define a biome in Don't Starve Together? A simple way to define it would be to just base it on the turf present, and that's what most people and the wiki default to. With this definition, there's a forest biome, savanna biome, grasslands, ocean, and so on. But the biomes in this sense appear multiple times in each world, and require ways to make each one more specific. For example, are you talking about the big savanna with beefalo and rabbits, or the small savanna with beefalo within a forest?

Another possible way to define a biome is by defining it more as a region rather than by specific turf. The idea can be seen here:

This only labels "biomes" that are optionally generated, but you can see how the other "biomes" could be defined the same way.

Biomes in this sense only appear once. For example, the Oasis desert only appears once. Same for the Killer Bees biome. In this case, I don't need to specify which Oasis desert or which Killer Bee biome. I find this more practical when describing locations of certain objects, such as mandrakes, meteor spawners, and walrus camps.

I would like to know what you guys think. Do you prefer the simple one based on turf, or the regional concept, or something else?

Welcome, everyone! Someone in the forums suggested there be a thread for nice/cool/interesting/efficient/noteworthy boat designs and I really liked this idea as a big fan of sailing in DST. So, I shall henceforth open the thread with my first boat showcase. It shall be a compilation of screenshots of DST boats and life on these boats. I'd like to see how interesting boats people here can come up with. This thread is all about boats. Www.boats.com, 7/24 Boats. All boats, all the time. A simple boat with many facilities sets sails off the shores of Savannah, carrying battle-ready Wise Old Lady and the Warlord Wes. Will the sneaky puffin manage to poop on them before getting beaten to a pulp by the ores of the duo? only time shall tell. 

 

Also I think Ocuvigils perform their best on boats as they move and reveal whole journeys to the rest of the players.

Year of the Carrat

Every year we get a new Chinese New Year event, bringing to us cool new items and mobs to mess with! What i'm wondering is what will next year, The Year of the Carrat (Just assuming what the name is going to be) bring to the Constant? Maybe it could bring some neat twists on pre-existing New Year items and make them more Lunar-ized, or perhaps some New Year themed seafaring items? (A boat/sail that resembles a Lucky Beast?) Or perhaps some Chinese themed food, since the Carrat is a food item itself. (Like a Chinese Mooncake, which would fit with the Lunar theme!)

According to the Chinese Zodiac Years. The next new year event(2020) will be the Year Of The Rat

The problem here is that what mob will this year be themed out of in DST? This year it was the pig king and pigs in general. In 2021 it's going to be the year of beefalos. But for 2020, What are they going to do? I mean I don't think there are no rat-like mobs in DST. Maybe mole worms? 

Not sure. Perhaps they'll just skip it. Or not make it being themed around a mob. Or they'll add a special mob just for this event. 

What do you guys think?

 

Has Anybody Gotten Good Skins?

I know that in the post it says that the Hallowed Nights would be coming with better skin drops as part of the festivities, and maybe I'm just entitled and spoiled but I  haven't really felt like my skin rates are any good right now. They're just commons with the occasional blue rarity. Has anybody gotten something really nice and I'm just missing out? At the very least it's a chance to show off your drops.

Any unknown mechanic to share?

Do you know any game mechanic that could not be very popular, you use for your advantage and could let us know?

For example: If you feed a pig x4 monster meat and kill it, you get 2x meat and 1x pig skin; two out of three ingredients to prototype hambat, also, you can repeat the process to get pig skin without destroying pig houses.

Wendy Rework?

So I've heard about the next rework most likely being soon for DST and people wanting a Wendy Rework. I very much want this because I play Wendy and I have some input on this possibly.

Wendy) So currently as it Stands, Wendy only deals 75% damage and loses 25% less sanity from night/dusk and other sanity auras. This is it. None of it should change, but there needs to be more that still makes sense to her character. Personally, I think one of the additions should have to do with Graves. Sanity loss should be lowered to at least 10 and the chance for ghosts should be lowered. A thought some people had was that she should also be able to more easily revive people. She might take less damage for effigies and telltale hearts (30 or 20 not 40). She should also lose less or NO (preferably) sanity from ghost players (HER SISTER IS ONE).

Abigail) as it stands for Abigail, She has her flower, takes 50 sanity to summon, has 600 health with 1hp per second of healing and does an AoE attack of 10, 20, 40, during Day, Dusk, Night, respectively. I think this is good, This currently stands very well for Wendy's role as a group mob person via Abigail. The problem is bosses and control. I think that for boss fights Wendy could make certain objects that tinker Abigail's role in the fight. They would turn Abigail into more of a support (giving Wendy MORE than 100%, higher Armor, or speed boost for a bit). These objects would take up sanity like it does to summon Abigail, though not as much. They should be a little expensive and last a decent amount of time but not too long (30 sec?) For crafting it might take nightmare fuel or petals, and items that correspond with there purpose. For better control of Abigail, maybe you could pacify, or force Abigail to follow close behind you if she is fighting something you don't want. I also think if you are in a rare situation where you have to attack Abigail and un-summon her, it should take WAY less time for her flower if you are the one to kill her.

Other Stuff) I don't want a Woodie problem again. If Wendy is reworked and a video is released, IT NEEDS TO ACTUALLY HAVE LORE. Have it be the twins playing when they are younger (this fits for what we got for Warly), something alluding to how Abigail died (or how Wendy can summon her), or how she might be related to Maxwell. NOT some random stuff of her new powers.

Wilson Rework - The Scientist

Hi all,
Here is a design that attempts to achieve the following goals from Wilson's identity :

1. Wilson is a simple character, with no downsides

2. Wilson is a scientist, likes experimenting

3. Wilson is intended as the face of don't starve, and he should be flavorful

4. Wilson is intended to be easy to get into for new players without being confusing

5. Wilson has a lot of knowledge and sanity to boot, similar to wicker

6. Wilson is a forgiving character to play

7. Wilson has to be a team player with some ability of revives (as seen in the forge)

 

New ability : Portable Chemistry Set

This is a new portable station (that Wilson can start with) which can be dropped like Maxwell book that unlocks some formulas that can be made with ingredients at the cost of sanity on use. The potions spoil in 3 days, to prevent stockpiling. Other characters can drink or use them, but cannot make them. The potions have mild support effects.

 

1. Heartpulse Formula

2x spider glands + 2 nitre + 30 health

This formula is like a telltale heart,with bonus points reviving at 100 health instead of 50, and without booster shot needed. The downside is that it doesn't restore sanity on use, but drains 20 sanity to the person using it on a ghost

Reason: as per his forge design, and the fact that new players die a lot, this would help for revives

 

2. Luminus Formula

2x light bulb + 2x nitre

Upon consumption, makes Wilson glow, with the duration of 3x a lesser glow berry. It consumes 20 sanity on use.

reason: new players usually avoid caves, and this would help them out

 

3. Sanity+

4x flowers + 2 nitre

Restores 30 sanity.

reason: simple formula for new players that wish to spend extra nitre resources to not have to deal with nightmare creatures

 

4. Trinitretolleus (crafts 3)

3x nitre + 3x ashes

Throwable gunpowder (like balloons)

It does 59.5 damage on hit, sets targets on fire after 3 hits in short succession, and no fire otherwise. Works in an aoe. These spoil in 10 days, instead of 3, and do not cost sanity on use.

Reason: for players that have issues kiting, this can help as a ranged attack with a cost of grinding. Numbers can be tweaked.

5. Brightbark Formula

1x logs + 1x nitre

A fuel item that lasts as long as glommer's goop. Creates efficiency at the cost of nitre. No sanity cost on use (because it is not drank, but fuel)

 

Let me know what you think of this approach and if you have other ideas of interesting formulas that fit Wilson's identities.

 

Bonus: I would also add a "Use" option to Maxwell's book and the portable chemistry set, which simply drops it at your feet, to make new players understand how it is used

 

Question about Updates and Saves

Not sure if this is the real section, but I was just curious.

I always ran a new world (not regenerated!) each time there's a content update (like the turn of tides).

Is it possible to have the same game with the new content added in or must you start a new save/regenerate the world for the new items?

I'm just wondering, how far ahead have you guys planned this? Are you making up updates as you go, or is there some grand finale you're working towards over the coming months/years?

And how many of the reworks are planned to some extent?

First Fuelweaver Fight

Hey !! Thanks for taking your time to read this,so long story short : I’ve never killed the Fuelweaver before,it may sound a little strange to some people but I’ve never saw a reason to defeat it in the first place,I never used that much Thulecite and raiding the ruins was a one time thing for me,my gameplay was pretty much 100% okay without the need for killing it.

HOWEVER...last year’s Winter’s Feast added a new ornament for those who killed the creature,and believe it or not,THAT was the biggest reason why I’m trying this right now,I’ve waited the WHOLE YEAR,farming armor,food,lunar tools,materials,changing characters to build stuff like catapults and generators,and slowly building and gathering knowledge in my head.

So here I am now,I will not play DST until Winter’s Feast come out,because the first thing I want to do when the update drops is kill this ancient boss (and get the tree's ornament).

(And yes,I'm on day 2163 and this is the first time I'm gonna fight the boss,after 2 years of it's release and after 24 ingame Autumns)

So please,if you have any tips that could help me in the fight or just anything related to it,please share,It would mean a lot to me :)

Curious to see what other people think of this structure.  I've mostly been of the thought that "I'm this character" when playing, and changing characters breaks that connection.  I'm a bit worried that every character will become a tool to use, get their perks, and switch out.  Eventually landing on someone with good persistent effects like Wolfgang for actually playing the game while everyone else is just a ghost I set up the world with...

What are your thoughts?  Do you use the portal?  Yes? No?  Why?

(I know there's already been a million of these threads, but whatever)

Alrighty, people. We have one character left to be introduced to DST. Who/what do you guys think it's going to be? Since it's the last character, I'm honestly expecting something big, like maybe Charlie?... but I'd like to see the story of DST move forward and evolve before anything like that happens.

Also, is nothing going to happen with that detective board thing at the beginning of Winona's short?? Someone's investigating all of the missing characters, and I doubt the person who made that board is any of the current characters, because (so far) they all seemed to have arrived at the Constant by some sort of accident. Maybe the new character will be the detective person?

Who do you guys want to see as the last character? I'm not talking about what their perks and abilities they would have, I'm just currently interested in who you guys want to see.
