Would anyone want Winnie a unimplemented character in DST?

I know their are mods and such, but I really like her concept of being agricultural, I know there's already Wormwood who's a greenthumb, but she's probably better around animals or something and gets a tab based on it. Like being able to milk beefalo, or making butter without the need to kill butterflies, who knows-

 

What you guys think?

Hi everyone, we're getting closer to the festive period of the year, with Winter's Feast coming on our favourite game and we've noticed from the previous announcement that this year, we're going to have some nice food to cook for our friends at the menu... and fishing a ton of Festive Lights from the oasis.

 

The magic of sharing, wrapping gifts and preparing a feast to all the starvers reunited playing the carol... it's beautiful...winterfeast.gif.79331eba1105bd873c1a3b4edda6f310.gif

But - but - but ! There's someone in the team that will have to eat (or starve in a endless suffering) Rot or a Monster Lasagna at best, and he'd better be happy about it. These guys :

Your critter is following you cause it doesn't have anything better to do, it beg for a treat but you've already installed a client mod to fix it, you look at it and there's a big Scrappy aside of its name, if you see Rot on ground it goes right in its mouth. And this my friend is the resume of a Critter's life.

No. I don't ask for individual perks for every Critters, if it happen that's cool, but I don't feel like they should all have something. The Mothling is a special one cause it asked you to explore way more than the others, while the Broodlings are just to me a compensation for the death of your Lavae (which are actually nice with Bundle Wraps), not a reward. There's also many topics for each of them with perks idea, so I'm not talking about this...

So... What I'd like is to make Critter something more than a dumper eating the stuff you don't want. Give them a Dragon Pie, a Monster Meat, or a Guardian's Horn (:confused:) and your Critter will have the same reaction : "Nom-nom-nom, it's gone, see you tomorrow."

 

This shouldn't be a big deal to make them an actual intelligent creature, capable of understanding if you give them something good or absolute garbage.

 

And the best thing to showcase you how better they could be, I'd be using for comparison a Tamed Beefalo :

 

  • Eating bad food :
    • Beefalo : They will show you they're unhappy to eat something dangerous like Cactus, but even if it's not impacting they're taming, you will feel bad about it, if you don't, you're a monster.
    • Critters : Actually eat a stack of Red Cap like a boss.
    • Problem : Unlike players or Beefalos, Critters doesn't have hunger component but are "perishable", it is fully restored when feed, whatever what.

Let's switch to a real hunger system !

I'm fine with the begging stuff when they're hungry but the hunger restoration have to be accorded to the food given. This way, if they have a default or a reduced hunger-rate, Critters who eat nicely could be happy for more than a day.

 

I'd also like that critters have a special diet depending if the original mob. There's no sense of giving a moth a big chunk of meat and seeds to a hound...

(Keep in mind that Wurt have bring a new component "foodaffinity" that allow some food and foodtype to restore more than usual)

 

  • Waiting for you :
    • Beefalo : You can force a Beefalo to wait in a pen and Salt Licks, allowing you to do other stuff and he's still happy cause : s a l t
    • Critters : Will follow you whatever what, only way is to abandon them to the Rock Den.
    • Problem : Critters can be very bothering a some moment, I have a pretty sick example in the spoiler bellow.

I've crashed a boat once cause I've pet the damn Mothling instead of retracting the mast ! ! !

The solution sounds very simple to me, we can have special interaction with the Critters at some places, like, abandoning them at the Rock Den but it's not the point here ! I suggest a new building, like a Doghouse, to allow players to leave their Critter at home.

 

  • Traits :
    • Beefalo : A Beefalo can have 3 very distinct traits that change its appearance and stats, players are responsible of the Beefalo traits.
    • Critters : There is actually 4 traits for critters, mind your own business and the Critter's trait will toggle between Scrappy and Crafty. No Impact. It is just looking at you doing stuff, with cute animations sometime.
    • Problem : Nobody is about to get the Well-Fed or Playful traits cause it's messing with your time for no reason, and I actually think those two traits are a nice challenge enough to players who want to take care of a Critter to make it rewarding.

Let's not turn Critters in a big debuff for players, okay ? Just a nice thing.

The most obvious thing to me is the Well-Fed trait, Beefalos have a very similar thing with the Pudgy appearance who gives a tiny sanity aura, it's a little insignificant but it makes sense.

The others traits should follow the same logic.

    • Nah I'm just kidding.

I've always been surprised how Beefalos are complex, they even react to your emotes, while Critters are as now an additional skin slots to some, I'd like we give them some love they deserve...

Single player boats, when?

Can we have boats for one player? I don't ask for much, Log Raft and Row Boat is enough, using this big and clumsy boat to only get few kelps/trinkets/drifting logs near shore seems weird to me. Even if those two were in the game it would still be better to use bigger boat when getting to lunar island, exploring for longer time or gathering resources/fishing/moving players from one place to another. I would even be ok with making those smaller boats taking extra dmg on deeper waters or something, just give them to me.

Ghost-Hound Interations.

Today's topic is about ghost-hound interation with Mac Tusk and Vargs, wich can be potentially server-ending.

Varg

When you haunt a varg, there's a chance that it spawns hounds, when those hounds are haunted and their color changes, they abbandon the Varg and  become like hound attack hounds, seeking the nearest player, killing anything in the way, you can repeat this indefinetly, wich can be potentially server ending.

Mac Tusk

When you haunt mac tusk's hound, it can still chance color, and it will continue to obey mac tusk's orders, but every time there's a hound missing, when it has been haunted, new blue hounds come when it agroes onto something, this allows for infinite dupe-ing of hounds. as of the time of the post's creation, I don't know if the hounds after winter ends despawn with mac tusk, become player-seeking hounds or continue to walk in the camp. The server has 4 days left in winter by the time of posting, so expect an anwser to that question in ~32 min.image.thumb.png.bd54d64c801451054a78f2c80b6c273e.png

Suggestion: Change the "Light" action

A simple way to prevent certain accidents would to be to remove the whole Light option from buildings, or make said option require holding ctrl.

im using this mod for hamlet house

i have tried 2 console lines

Both not working when using REMOTE command

Both make the house invisible when using LOCAL command, when im moving 2 screens away its reappear right back!

I originally made this for my friends and I to keep track of our skins collection, but I thought I'd also share it here.  The layout is fairly rustic, however, it does its job.

The checklist lets you save & filter items based on collection, character, color, rarity, and whether you own an item or not.  I've also included links to each skin's Steam page.

You can view the code, download, or preview the checklist here:

To use, save the HTML file to your computer and open it with your browser.  Alternatively, you can use the live preview link above, but Google Drive is discontinuing HTML web hosting at the end of August; so, the preview will cease to work after then.

The skin images are embedded (via base64 encoding) into the HTML file, so the file size is ~1.25MB.  Saving uses the Local Storage of your browser, so your save will be lost if you clear your browser's cache and/or site data.  Javascript also needs to be enabled to use the interactive features.

Has Anybody Gotten Good Skins?

I know that in the post it says that the Hallowed Nights would be coming with better skin drops as part of the festivities, and maybe I'm just entitled and spoiled but I  haven't really felt like my skin rates are any good right now. They're just commons with the occasional blue rarity. Has anybody gotten something really nice and I'm just missing out? At the very least it's a chance to show off your drops.

Winter's Feast + Hook, Line & Inker coming Dec. 12th! (And more!)

Hey Everybody, 

Coming to Steam, Xbox One and Wegame next week on December 12th, we will be bringing Hook, Line and Inker to the live servers along with this year's Winter's Feast event. 

The table is set for Winter’s Feast, and this year something new is being cooked up for our Survivors. They're going to have to work for it, of course. Chase Gingerpigs and embark upon a Festive Hunt in search of Holiday Cheer. Use Holiday Cheer in new recipes then Feast with friends for some special Seasonal Feels. 

Of course, we have a bunch of new skins, item drop bonus, a new special login bonus item as well as new twitch items too!

More details about Winter's Feast and Hook Line and Inker will be available next week. See you then!

Note to PS4 players: While the build has already been submitted and would normally be ready in time, unfortunately Sony has decided that this build requires additional testing due to the new virtual currency support, apparently this process requires extra time and their next cert slot is not available until Dec. 17th. Therefore this build will not be available on PS4 until at least a week later than the 12th. We will update with more details as they arrive. 
UPDATE: We got together and discussed a solution. We are pulling out the virtual currency from the build and will submit that build at a later date. This means we should be able to get the content and event out to PS4 players on time. However, this means there will be no way to purchase the new holiday skins. To help with that we will be making those skins temporarily available for free to all PS4 players during the event similar to the other free time limited winter skins. The skins will disappear from your inventory at the end of the holiday (unless you weave or get that item as a drop).  We will make those skins available for purchase once we are able to.

We apologize for this inconvenience but we were concerned that if we did not get this update out sooner, due to the holidays we might not be able to get it out until Sony staff returns the office in the new year. 


Would thirst be a good mechanic to add?

Besides sanity, hunger, temperature and health, thirst is also very important in survival. Drinking water is even more important than eating. I think i saw a mod that adds thirst bar and ability to drink stuff, but would it be a good idea to add it to acctual game?

So, since I play on console, I won't really get to experience this until it comes out then, but I heard about the elite pigs and them being useable as a way to fight. (Suprisingly ever since it came out no one ever mentioned of it so either no one really noticed/just couldn'tfind any reason for it, or it isn't in game yet and I'm just being an idiot...) Has anyone found anything useful to use them for? I sort of thought an idea is that it could be useful for those solo players who want extra scales from the Dragonfly that can't do enough dps to it. Anybody got anything?

So I have been thinking about this for a while now but it still confuses me. So i heard that maxwell said something like they don't age in the constant? But time still passes in the real world(proved by winona looking for charlie while she is in the constant) so when they come back into the real world, will the people that used to be younger than them possibly be older? Or does time just pass slower in the constant, so for example 10 years in the constant would actually be two years in the real world? Tell me what you think.
