[BUG] Cannot launch Don't Starve Together

Bug tracker section seems unavailable, so I post here.

Actually, I have exactly the same problem described by Lexfati13 on

except that the fix doesn't seem to work for me.

I've got a similar bug on Don't Starve but this one use to work few months ago.

I can't stop thinking about ideas! My brain keeps thinking for possible ideas... Here's some drawing concepts:  1. Woodie as the father from "A Chrismas Story" (With him taping a hat to keep Lucy warm)  (Quote: "You'll whack your eye out with that boomerang kid!")    2. Wortox as Gizmo from "Gremlins"  (Quote: Better not feed him after midnight..)   3. Webber as the kid from "Home Alone"  (Quote: "We won't let you get in our way!")    [This was all the ideas I had but I hope this might inspire them in anyway. And mostly my favorite has to be Wortox and Woodie.]

Challenge: Create a character that interacts with lesser used mechanics

We all love to create custom characters' advantages and disadvantages, but they almost always have abilities that fall into the categories of combat, food, resource gathering, stat management, or exploration (e.g. Wolfgang (in theory) has greater difficulty with his hunger and sanity, higher DPS output and damage resistance, Maxwell has high sanity, passive sanity regeneration, and shadow servants but low max hp, Wortox can cover a lot of ground with his souls and quickly heal, but he needs to eat twice as much).

 

What would you make for a character whose abilities (advantages and/or disadvantages) were based around mechanics that aren't used often in the game?

Underrepresented mechanics include, but are not limited to:

  • Day count
  • Moon Phase
  • Day Phase (Dusk, night etc.)
  • Current sanity
  • Ambient world temperature
  • Naughtiness
  • Current Health
  • Turf Type
  • Weather
  • Hunts
  • Drop rates
  • Spoilage

 

Some traits I made based on these underutilized mechanics:

  • A character who gains a speed boost based on how many segments of dusk there are compared to the whole cycle
  • A superstitious character who gains effects based on the number that the current day ends with
    • +10% speed on days ending with a 1
    • Can't eat meat on days ending with a 2
    • Can't attack innocent creatures on days ending with a 3
    • -5 sanity/min on days ending with a 4
    • Can't eat fruit on days ending with a 5
    • Can't craft on days ending with a 6
    • +8.25 sanity/min on days ending with a 7
    • Can't eat veggies on days ending with an 8
    • Tools lose 20% less durability on days ending with a 9
    • +10% damage on days ending with a 0
  • A lucky character who gets an additional loot roll for one item from the defeated creature's non-guaranteed loot table (e.g. Killing a mactusk rolls an additional chance for a tusk or tam, Beefalo get another roll on horn drops). Guaranteed items are not rolled again (e.g. Bees always drop one stinger or honey, deerclops always drops just one eyeball).
  • A character who gains special bonuses during some weather events

Wilson Rework - The Scientist

Hi all,
Here is a design that attempts to achieve the following goals from Wilson's identity :

1. Wilson is a simple character, with no downsides

2. Wilson is a scientist, likes experimenting

3. Wilson is intended as the face of don't starve, and he should be flavorful

4. Wilson is intended to be easy to get into for new players without being confusing

5. Wilson has a lot of knowledge and sanity to boot, similar to wicker

6. Wilson is a forgiving character to play

7. Wilson has to be a team player with some ability of revives (as seen in the forge)

 

New ability : Portable Chemistry Set

This is a new portable station (that Wilson can start with) which can be dropped like Maxwell book that unlocks some formulas that can be made with ingredients at the cost of sanity on use. The potions spoil in 3 days, to prevent stockpiling. Other characters can drink or use them, but cannot make them. The potions have mild support effects.

 

1. Heartpulse Formula

2x spider glands + 2 nitre + 30 health

This formula is like a telltale heart,with bonus points reviving at 100 health instead of 50, and without booster shot needed. The downside is that it doesn't restore sanity on use, but drains 20 sanity to the person using it on a ghost

Reason: as per his forge design, and the fact that new players die a lot, this would help for revives

 

2. Luminus Formula

2x light bulb + 2x nitre

Upon consumption, makes Wilson glow, with the duration of 3x a lesser glow berry. It consumes 20 sanity on use.

reason: new players usually avoid caves, and this would help them out

 

3. Sanity+

4x flowers + 2 nitre

Restores 30 sanity.

reason: simple formula for new players that wish to spend extra nitre resources to not have to deal with nightmare creatures

 

4. Trinitretolleus (crafts 3)

3x nitre + 3x ashes

Throwable gunpowder (like balloons)

It does 59.5 damage on hit, sets targets on fire after 3 hits in short succession, and no fire otherwise. Works in an aoe. These spoil in 10 days, instead of 3, and do not cost sanity on use.

Reason: for players that have issues kiting, this can help as a ranged attack with a cost of grinding. Numbers can be tweaked.

5. Brightbark Formula

1x logs + 1x nitre

A fuel item that lasts as long as glommer's goop. Creates efficiency at the cost of nitre. No sanity cost on use (because it is not drank, but fuel)

 

Let me know what you think of this approach and if you have other ideas of interesting formulas that fit Wilson's identities.

 

Bonus: I would also add a "Use" option to Maxwell's book and the portable chemistry set, which simply drops it at your feet, to make new players understand how it is used

Moonlight transform Woodie, Wilba and pigs into their respective wereforms. It will also transform other entities, like flowers and mushrooms and the likes.

Monster meat ALSO transforms Woodie, Wilba and pigs into their respective wereforms.

Does this mean monster meat is actually mutated normal meat? If this is the case, monsters such as spiders and hounds may have been innocent creatures at some point, but has become mindless beings of insatiable hunger that attacks anything in sight as a result of too much exposure to the moon.

Come to think of it, werepigs behave very similarly. They eat anything in sight and are completely mindless. It's just that they can't stay in their wereform for long enough to become mutated to the bone. But if a pig where to stay in their wereforms for long enough, would he become mutated for good? Would he forever lose what little pigfolk he had left, and become a mindless beast solely based of consumption?

Would Woodie become a mindless monster should he be left in his form for long enough? He does turn back with 0 hunger after all...

 

If this is all the case, Them might not be the only bad guys we have to deal with. The moon might be equally responsible for the fall of the constant as the shadows.


Predictions on the last character

(I know there's already been a million of these threads, but whatever)

Alrighty, people. We have one character left to be introduced to DST. Who/what do you guys think it's going to be? Since it's the last character, I'm honestly expecting something big, like maybe Charlie?... but I'd like to see the story of DST move forward and evolve before anything like that happens.

Also, is nothing going to happen with that detective board thing at the beginning of Winona's short?? Someone's investigating all of the missing characters, and I doubt the person who made that board is any of the current characters, because (so far) they all seemed to have arrived at the Constant by some sort of accident. Maybe the new character will be the detective person?

Who do you guys want to see as the last character? I'm not talking about what their perks and abilities they would have, I'm just currently interested in who you guys want to see.

Wendy Rework?

So I've heard about the next rework most likely being soon for DST and people wanting a Wendy Rework. I very much want this because I play Wendy and I have some input on this possibly.

Wendy) So currently as it Stands, Wendy only deals 75% damage and loses 25% less sanity from night/dusk and other sanity auras. This is it. None of it should change, but there needs to be more that still makes sense to her character. Personally, I think one of the additions should have to do with Graves. Sanity loss should be lowered to at least 10 and the chance for ghosts should be lowered. A thought some people had was that she should also be able to more easily revive people. She might take less damage for effigies and telltale hearts (30 or 20 not 40). She should also lose less or NO (preferably) sanity from ghost players (HER SISTER IS ONE).

Abigail) as it stands for Abigail, She has her flower, takes 50 sanity to summon, has 600 health with 1hp per second of healing and does an AoE attack of 10, 20, 40, during Day, Dusk, Night, respectively. I think this is good, This currently stands very well for Wendy's role as a group mob person via Abigail. The problem is bosses and control. I think that for boss fights Wendy could make certain objects that tinker Abigail's role in the fight. They would turn Abigail into more of a support (giving Wendy MORE than 100%, higher Armor, or speed boost for a bit). These objects would take up sanity like it does to summon Abigail, though not as much. They should be a little expensive and last a decent amount of time but not too long (30 sec?) For crafting it might take nightmare fuel or petals, and items that correspond with there purpose. For better control of Abigail, maybe you could pacify, or force Abigail to follow close behind you if she is fighting something you don't want. I also think if you are in a rare situation where you have to attack Abigail and un-summon her, it should take WAY less time for her flower if you are the one to kill her.

Other Stuff) I don't want a Woodie problem again. If Wendy is reworked and a video is released, IT NEEDS TO ACTUALLY HAVE LORE. Have it be the twins playing when they are younger (this fits for what we got for Warly), something alluding to how Abigail died (or how Wendy can summon her), or how she might be related to Maxwell. NOT some random stuff of her new powers.

Hallowed Nights Has Returned and Wurt has Arrived + much more!

Hey everyone! Today we are launching Wurt and Hallowed Nights!

This is kind of a lot of stuff. So hang in there with me. 

The Monster Mash:

The cold wind howls. Trees stand tall and bare, their skeletal branches silhouetted against a broken moon. Gather close children, for these are the Hallowed Nights when ghouls and monsters come out to play… and something has started watching our Survivors from the fog.

Being a young and impressionable merm, Wurt has grown quite fascinated by the Survivors and their strange ways. Bucking the usual merm tradition of simply stomping anything new and strange into the ground, she has decided to venture outside her cozy swamp to learn more about these odd scale-less beings. Perhaps this will be the start of a new chapter in Survivor-merm relations...

  • Wurt can spot where danger is hiding in the swamp
  • Wurt can craft the Royal Tapestry and make a home for the Merm King and his Guards:
    • The Royal Tapestry requires materials from all over The Constant
    • The Merm King provides all Merms extra strength to fight
    • Wurt must feed the Merm King to prevent him from starving
  • Wurt can craft Merm Houses and Merm Flort-ifications
  • She moves faster while on the swamp and can craft tiles to expand her turf
  • Wurt is a vegetarian with a particular appreciation for Durians
  • Wurt can craft a Clever Disguise to get other survivors to blend in with her swamp friends
  • Likes to keep Pet Fish in her inventory
  • Strongly dislikes Pigs
  • Being wet does not affect her strong grip

Wurt can be unlocked in the following ways:

  • Wurt is available for purchase for $5.99, in the Wurt Chest. Wurt’s Guest of Honor skin set is included in this chest for free.
  • The Wurt Deluxe Chest is $9.99 and includes the Guest of Honor, Triumphant and Abyssal skin sets.
  • Wurt is part of the new "Starter Pack" that can now be purchased within a New Megapack Bundle for $6.99 before the Megapack discount. Current Megapack Bundle owners will be able to upgrade with that discount as well. The starter pack includes Wurt, 4 Classic Characters Skins for Wilson, Willow, Wendy and Wx-78, a new spear skin, a hound backpack and Green Pajamas and Bedroll.  
  • You can weave Wurt for 2700 spool.

Free spooky costumes are also available for a limited time, so enjoy them before the event ends and they go back from whence they came! 

That's not all. During Hallowed Nights, we have increased the drop chance of Hallowed Nights items, so be on the look-out for these rare items and snag them all while you can! 

A new set of Survivors receive Hallowed Nights disguises and you can also get last year's Hallowed Collection for 50% off until November 7th.

My dear Wolfgang managed to trap himself while being sane and of course I mocked him by taking a screenshot and weeks later finding myself trapped in this too while being sane.

Wilton as the newest survivor? Character idea

Anybody remember the Wilton the skeleton? Just like wortox they used to have their portrait in the original dont starve at the xp gap. One thing I would absolutely love is if wilton was a character for dont starve together! I don't really have much of an idea for how could he work but I put a few maybe-ish examples and a idea for how our rattly companion could work in dont starve together...

Hunger/brittle bones perk?

One interesting thing is that for the character is that there is actually a mod for wilton and an interesting perk is no hunger, this perk would probably be very looked down apon since wilton would probably be boring to play as (especially since people would disapprove as it may not help other survivors when getting food) but maybe to make it seem more like an appropriate downside it could work more like wormwood since wilton wouldn't be able to eat he wouldn't be able to get any benefits off of food and crockpot meals, and to maybe make  wilton have low hp and sanity to make wilton actually want/give a need for him to survive and be careful when exploring the world. When he kills a creature/creature dies around a wilton, they will drop some bone shards (similar to wilton) and wilton can eat them recovering a small amount of health and hunger. This sort of actually gives wilton a motive in the game. Since if he wants to survive and be cooperative with other players he can help kill things and gather bone shards for them/ be a safe way if players want to go somewhere but worry about running low on food or danger wilton can run over and get it for them.

Is undead/is a skeleton, perk

My idea for a perk like this, is that When Wilton dies he drops his heads and similar to the old webbers head he will revive if someone puts it in a certain type of grave that Wilton can make. Wilton has the ability to make his own headstones and is able to use a shovel near it to make a grave mound. As a cute and funny little touch if someone buries meat or anything in the ground the character will quote where the meat came from and and say something about it.(example of wilson: RIP rabbit "Sorry I was just hungry") if wilton puts 2 or maybe 4 boneshards in it it will act as a meat effigy and you can only do one grave at a time choosing to ressurect there or have a player place his head in the grave. Since wilton is basically a skeleton pigs will fear him and attack him on sight,(similar to wurt) but interesting enough spiders will not attack him since there isn't any meat to get, (there neutral towards wilton) hounds however are more likely to target wilton and wilton loses more sanity when hounds are hostile towards him

Is pretty handy with bones, perk

I think to work it with the mod similarly is that wilton can make his bones into a sort of cheap boomerang made out of bones, and is able to throw bones at enemies and such (similar to wilbur)... I don't really have much of an idea for this but this was honestly the best I could think of for a perk like this, heck it could also make wilton that range character everyone wanted and make playing wilton more careful with his low hp and sanity.

animated short idea?

It could honestly be simple. Some survivor is just at a grave yard during the full moon they spot a bunch of ghost around them and the ghost chases them away, but little did they know that they accidentally dropped a telltale heart from their backpack near one specific grave causing a certain ghost to gain interest in it. The heart drops in and brings an old bag of bones back to life, and maybe as an interesting idea wilton spends the rest of the animation trying to remember who he is and why he came back! And as a special touch from the animation is that he could have a tell tale heart in the middle inside his ribs and his unique animation could possibly just be him rattling his head or him just scratching the bottom of his head in a confused way.

Skin ideas:

I don't have a good idea on skins so far, but i thought one would be cute and interesting as a skin representing the day of the dead were wilton has a cool looking face paint on him and he could have a sombrero skin for the straw hat and maybe a guitar as a skin for spear.

And aswell thinking of now there could be a triumphant skin of wilton and the heart could be a shadow atrium

Thoughts?:

Anybody have any suggestions I tried to think of a way this could work and this was sort of the best I could think of. If there's any grammer/spelling mistakes let me know since I'm really bad at communicating and what are your thoughts if this could be any better? Ghost-Hound Interations.

Today's topic is about ghost-hound interation with Mac Tusk and Vargs, wich can be potentially server-ending.

Varg

When you haunt a varg, there's a chance that it spawns hounds, when those hounds are haunted and their color changes, they abbandon the Varg and  become like hound attack hounds, seeking the nearest player, killing anything in the way, you can repeat this indefinetly, wich can be potentially server ending.

Mac Tusk

When you haunt mac tusk's hound, it can still chance color, and it will continue to obey mac tusk's orders, but every time there's a hound missing, when it has been haunted, new blue hounds come when it agroes onto something, this allows for infinite dupe-ing of hounds. as of the time of the post's creation, I don't know if the hounds after winter ends despawn with mac tusk, become player-seeking hounds or continue to walk in the camp. So... Winona. Haven't heard much about her in a while.
It's been nearly 9 months since her rework was released. She was infamous for being the most bland and pointless character in the game, but had a turnaround that would begin an entire SERIES of reworks.

Now... what do you guys think of her rework? Do you think she truly is a swap character?
Did the rework hit the spot, or does she need some sort of new rebalance like Woodie got?
Do you think that she suffers from "The First" syndrome*, and needs another total rework?

My opinion? She just needs some way to make her perks more exclusive, so that she's not a total swap character. But I've been wondering about this for a bit now.
No really, I lay awake at night.

What do you guys think?

*The First syndrome: When game developers do a series of things, and get more experienced as they do them. The only issue, is that the first one(s) can be seen as less good than the others. Due to it being the first, and therefore made when the developers had the least experience making that series of things.

How would one reset their obituaries?  Is there a file to delete?  I didn't see any command for it, and a google / forum search didn't yield any results.  halp pl0x uwu lol
