How does map sharing work?

$

0

Hello,

we decided to do Winter in-game event with quest part, for that reason we needed to provide step by step map with a specific location on it (like shown on the screenshot below). I used TooManyItems plus mod to hide a map and after that teleported at all points, that we included. The problem appeared at the sharing time when I draw a map by the creative mode - testing person hid her own map and studied mine but nothing appeared. We tried to save (in consol c_save() ) before and after painting, disconnect from the server, despawn and other thing but all time the same problem - nothing is shown or only several points are there or those ones that were before hiding. Could, please, anyone explain how that map sharing and painting works? And many thanks for that person, who can help with our problem. Thanks a lot!

Hi all. The old topic was archived in early 2017, but I thought it'd be a good idea to bring it back. There have been a ton of content since and quite a bit of skins. Personally I really enjoyed the Victorian collection but others were good as well. Well, if you got any cool outfit sets you wish to share - post it here!

I'll start

Critters should give small perks for expensive recipes

$

At the moment Broodling is the only one hard to get.

And they should give bonuses based on how expensive their recipe is

Stuff like - ok Mothling gives light

- 3 to 5% movement speed

- 4 to 7% slower hunger drain

- 3 to 6% extra damage or reduced damage taken

Gloom Gloom can give a tiny 1-2 Sanity per minute

Nothing game changing, just little perks that people can adjust based on what they need. And the x-y% can vary based on how well fed the critter is.

And if those bonuses could compete with each other or even make players change pets based on situational needs even better.

Hallowed Nights Has Returned and Wurt has Arrived + much more!

Hey everyone! Today we are launching Wurt and Hallowed Nights!

This is kind of a lot of stuff. So hang in there with me.

The Monster Mash:

The cold wind howls. Trees stand tall and bare, their skeletal branches silhouetted against a broken moon. Gather close children, for these are the Hallowed Nights when ghouls and monsters come out to play… and something has started watching our Survivors from the fog.

Being a young and impressionable merm, Wurt has grown quite fascinated by the Survivors and their strange ways. Bucking the usual merm tradition of simply stomping anything new and strange into the ground, she has decided to venture outside her cozy swamp to learn more about these odd scale-less beings. Perhaps this will be the start of a new chapter in Survivor-merm relations...

  • Wurt can spot where danger is hiding in the swamp
  • Wurt can craft the Royal Tapestry and make a home for the Merm King and his Guards:
    • The Royal Tapestry requires materials from all over The Constant
    • The Merm King provides all Merms extra strength to fight
    • Wurt must feed the Merm King to prevent him from starving
  • Wurt can craft Merm Houses and Merm Flort-ifications
  • She moves faster while on the swamp and can craft tiles to expand her turf
  • Wurt is a vegetarian with a particular appreciation for Durians
  • Wurt can craft a Clever Disguise to get other survivors to blend in with her swamp friends
  • Likes to keep Pet Fish in her inventory
  • Strongly dislikes Pigs
  • Being wet does not affect her strong grip

Wurt can be unlocked in the following ways:

  • Wurt is available for purchase for $5.99, in the Wurt Chest. Wurt’s Guest of Honor skin set is included in this chest for free.
  • The Wurt Deluxe Chest is $9.99 and includes the Guest of Honor, Triumphant and Abyssal skin sets.
  • Wurt is part of the new "Starter Pack" that can now be purchased within a New Megapack Bundle for $6.99 before the Megapack discount. Current Megapack Bundle owners will be able to upgrade with that discount as well. The starter pack includes Wurt, 4 Classic Characters Skins for Wilson, Willow, Wendy and Wx-78, a new spear skin, a hound backpack and Green Pajamas and Bedroll.
  • You can weave Wurt for 2700 spool.

Free spooky costumes are also available for a limited time, so enjoy them before the event ends and they go back from whence they came!

That's not all. During Hallowed Nights, we have increased the drop chance of Hallowed Nights items, so be on the look-out for these rare items and snag them all while you can!

A new set of Survivors receive Hallowed Nights disguises and you can also get last year's Hallowed Collection for 50% off until November 7th.

And that's it for now.

The next Return of Them beta update "Hook, Line and Inker" should release early November. But as always, that is an estimate and things could change, expect more details about a week before release.

Willow was in the Girl Scouts?

Moon Glass AxeMoon Glass Axe- "The moon HATES trees."

Showcase for tidy bases [3]

Since the previous threads got archived, and there haven't been any threads like these for a time, I decided to make a new one because I feel that in the coming days and the new updates we may see more innovative and nice base designs (like seabases for example) and I also feel that the previous threads have lots of good base/megabase/world designs we can all appreciate. Original idea of course goes to the wonderful @disies.

My bases aren't so tidy as of now, but here's the general idea:

20190508215040_1.jpg.ab7f50fa17c311e80d9c346e3f54153a.jpg

Just a central oasis settlement surrounded by farms. Pretty simple. I'll post more recent photos when i have the time :)

Do feel free to share your base designs too :D

How exactly does time work in the constant

$

So I have been thinking about this for a while now but it still confuses me. So i heard that maxwell said something like they don't age in the constant? But time still passes in the real world(proved by winona looking for charlie while she is in the constant) so when they come back into the real world, will the people that used to be younger than them possibly be older? Or does time just pass slower in the constant, so for example 10 years in the constant would actually be two years in the real world? Tell me what you think.

Why each character is here

$
0
0

You ever wonder why we're here?

My bet is that every character has a reason that they specifically were taken here, and not just because they bought Wagstaff's inventions. Some characters have a personal connection to Maxwell/Charlie/Wagstaff, but others... not so much.

Wilson:

Willow:

This is an interesting one. We saw in "From the Ashes" that a terrorbeak tried to kill her as a child, probably before Maxwell even had the book. She also has Bernie, seemingly the only thing They fear. No idea what They want with Willow, or why her toy bear is/is possessed by some powerful magic entity.

Wolfgang:

Wolfgang was in the circus that caused the train crash, in which Maxwell found the Codex Umbra. My guess is that if the Codex belonged to the circus, maybe Wolfgang knew something about it.

Wendy:

She was related to Maxwell, and given the scratches on every photo of William, I would assume They wanted to tie up any loose ends. Alternativly, whatever Abigail's flower is could have something to do with things.

WX-78:

My guess is that this was a mistake. I think WX was just a test, thrown into the portal because his morality module or something was broken. Wagstaff never thought he'd see him again, so I'd say he was the crash test dummy.

Wickerbottom:

We have very little to go off of, but we do know she's magicly inclined. They could have targeted her because of what she knew.

Woodie:

Wes:

Because he secretly knows what They're planning and how to stop them.

Maxwell:

Wagstaff:

Wigfrid:

Maybe in a past role, Wigfrid knew Charlie? They both were in show business, so they may have met.

Webber:

I think Webber was another accident. I don't think that someone like him would have been able to build the portal. My guess is that he found someone else's portal some how. It would be pretty cool to see Webber's father or someone close to him build a portal, only for their small child/relative to stumble in.

Winona:

While she does have a direct connection to Charlie, she wasn't chosen to build the portal. She was never tricked by Maxwell. Winona was a variable They forgot to take into account.

Warly:

Not much to goo  off of, but I have an idea with little evidence. Warly was a worker on a ship of some kind, so what if he was on the RMS Celtic with Maxwell? Perhaps he had some influence over Maxwell decision to become a magician?

Wortox:

Wormwood:

Wurt:

Pugna:

Skin trader:

Lot's of people think he's Jack. Not really anything else to say.

Winter vs. Summer

$

Winter in DST is challenging yet fun. I find myself enjoying the season due to the season exclusive content. Walrus Camps give us two very important items, the Tam and the Walking Cane. The Klaus bag provides us with one of the best and rewarding boss fights in the game. Not to mention the useful ice glaciers that appear around the map. Winter feels like it has a purpose.

Summer is the opposite of that. Right now, summer feels like a bummer. It only serves to push players to explore the caves. Antlion is a chore and provides nothing useful for your character. The Lazy Deserter is niche at best. The only other summer exclusive item is cactus flower. We need a new summer raid boss akin to Klaus. We need new creatures infesting the Constant during the scorching season akin to the Walrus Camps. We need new seasonal summer ocean mobs. Something useful akin to ice, like bell pepper bushes or something. What are your opinions on summer? How can summer become more worthwhile?

To add on: Cocoa could be an interesting season specific food. It could be crafted into a slow perishing chocolate bar/be used in new chocolate dishes. The chocolate bars could act as an alternative to Jerky, and last longer than Jerky (when refrigerated) too.

Would anyone want Winnie a unimplemented character in DST?

I know their are mods and such, but I really like her concept of being agricultural, I know there's already Wormwood who's a greenthumb, but she's probably better around animals or something and gets a tab based on it. Like being able to milk beefalo, or making butter without the need to kill butterflies, who knows-

What you guys think?

Lore of Gnaw and Merms

$
0
0

We now know quite a lot about merms but there are also new questions that now need answering.

So to what we know already:

-Merms originate from Gnaw

-They are humanoid. It seems that Gnaw can't/doesn't need to turn simple animals like rabbits into fishes

-They function like normal animals: they can reproduce (Wurt's existence), evolve (Fishermers in Sw) and develop (own language, monarchy)

Now about Gnaw, it's relations with merms and lore of the dst

Gnaw appears to be some sort of god/higher being with magical powers. As of now we don't know if Gnaw is only a mouth in the sky or if that mouth actually belongs to something. It sufferms from ethernal hunger and is developed enough to be able to be picky- a hungry beast would simply eat anything. Gnaw travels from land to lands searching from (I assume) humanoid/developed creatures that will feed it. When they fail to do so Gnaw will mermificate them. After an entire civilization is destroyed Gnaw will search for other to terrorize.

Now the big question: why does Gnaw turn beings into merms. The merms don't seem to obey Gnaw and so won't feed it. Is this simply the only power that Gnaw has and so it uses it as a way of punishing? Or are merms actually a part of a hive-mind that simply haven't activated yet? Maybe Gnaw is building up and army of merms and when the time comes it will take control of them.

So did Gnaw play a big part in the history of dst? Maybe. @QrChuck made an interesting theory that Ancients escaped into the caves because of Gnaw. It could actually make sense as in the Metheus murals we see some sort of circe in the sky as Ancients are leaving the surface.

Spoiler

image.thumb.png.81f03b60b9305c01279658ee090f235d.png

Now I know that Metheus came before the Gorge so Klei might not have actually planned these circles to reseble Gnaw. But that doesn't mean that they can't make that canon. After all we know that caves are able to protect from the dangers of the sky as many characters comment on moon dial in the caves that 'Moon' can't see them here.

Cave portal

When is Klei going to fix the cave portal?  What is its purpose?  Yes, I know in the endless mode it can be used to revive but that is it.

For survival and wilderness it is useless.  Why can't we upgrade it to the Celestial portal?  The paraphernalia can be crafted on the surface and taken to the portal.   The cave portal can be useful for all modes of the came to change characters.  For wilderness it would be a place to change characters.

Why can't it  be just like the surface portal?

Extremely Annoying Audio Cutting - How To Resolve?

$

When there are too many sounds going on at once, the in-game sounds starts to cut out, a lot. Example here:

Spoiler

It's really annoying (and at times ear piercing) and makes the game hard to play. I did an Oasis Base for the first time, and I'm noticing it a lot with just the sandstorm being up as well, making it not that enjoyable.

Is this a hardware issue or an in-game issue? Do others experience this issue? I don't experience this with other games. I reported here in case you ask, but I'm guessing the devs are busy.

New boats that are fire proof

$
0
0

What can the boats be made from so they can be fire resistant?  Use the boats in the summer can be very dangerous.   The boats for bridges go up in smoke so easily so going to the Lunar Island in the summer is not a good idea.

Ancient guardian horn + 2 hairs + scale

Mushroom skin + hairs + scale

Mushroom skin + blue gem + hair + scale

Malbatross feather + down feather + scale

So many possible combinations could be used.

Celestial Portal - do you use it?

$
0
0

Curious to see what other people think of this structure.  I've mostly been of the thought that "I'm this character" when playing, and changing characters breaks that connection.  I'm a bit worried that every character will become a tool to use, get their perks, and switch out.  Eventually landing on someone with good persistent effects like Wolfgang for actually playing the game while everyone else is just a ghost I set up the world with...

What are your thoughts?  Do you use the portal?  Yes? No?  Why?

Wolfgang Rework

$

0

How might you suggest Wolfgang be tweaked to become more of a team player?

I think a dumbell, like the one shown in his character art, should be a craftable. A character could lift it for thirty seconds to boost their strength, minimally, so they can hit an extra 5 damage or so for a day. It would also allow Wolfgang to increase his mightiness.

A passive perk for him: Wolfgang can carry sculptures and boulders with no speed penalty when well-fed. He is a strongman after all.
