Hello this is a thread where I've put all of information on characters' ages that we know.

Wilson- in his thirties (confirmed by devs)

Willow- in her twenties (confirmed by devs)

Wolfgang- age unknown

Wendy- 8-10 years old (confirmed by @JoeW)

Wx-78- age unknown. Not that it'd matter since robots don't age

Wickerbottom- age unknown but she's obviously old

Woodie- age unknown 

Wes- age unknown

Maxwell- age unknown but he's obviously old

Wigfrid- age unknown

Webber- age unknown but he's obviously a kid

Winona- age unknown, older than Charlie

Warly- age unknown 

Wortox- age unknown but I assume that acquiring powers is like endering teenagehood/adulthood for imps

Wormwood- age unknown but has a mindset of a child

Wurt- a young Merm

Who do you think is the best antagonist so far according to you? I know Maxwell is not one anymore but he was one at some point, i'm also putting Ancients, Shadows and Them in the same choice becouse we don't really know much about them and they have connection to each other(im also adding wes as a choice becouse this mime must be hiding some dark secrets).

 

So first choose the character/s you like/liked the most as antagonist and then let us discuss theire origins/motives/future plans/connection between each of them and theire mystery.

 

As we can see by the Matheus puzzle murals there is a connection between Ancients,Gnaw(1) and ancient gateway(2).Gnaw was probably the reason they had to hide underground and why we have merms in Constant.

They lived underground and shadows started to emerge from the gateway.

On the other mural we can see they did something with ancient gateway using probably nightmare fuel, whatever it was it wasn't good for them becouse they started dying, they woke up a powerfull shadowy force from the gateway i think that those are Them. Also we see that the one of the two leaders(i think this is theire queen) of the Ancients holding a torch and it appears that she is safe from the shadows, and king didn't had this luck.

They queen was the only one who survived and she's crying. She is sitting on a throne with the darkness around her, it is probably the shadow throne.

Then they are Maxwell who was the first antagonist we meet in Don't Starve, and all the other survivors. Wilson was last to sit on the shadow throne, he was freed by Charlie who is current ruler, she starts New Reign by creating monsters to make life of our survivors even harder. In the Forge animation we can she collecting the power of the gateway, what does she planing to do with it? 

And now we have Return of Them where we will finally see Them! The updates shows so far that They have connection to the lunar power.

The mystery of this game's lore is so mysterious.

These are only my thoughts and i wanna her yours.

Looking for a mod to toggle keyboard/controller

I play dst using a controller but there are a lot of times I have to switch back to keyboard to perform a function like voting, rollback, fighting afw using certain mods etc.

It would be way more convenient if there was a mod that had a button to quick switch between the two. Is there anything already out there I should look into? Otherwise is anyone up for making one?


What is this animation and how can I delete it?

I have an animation showing near the celestial portal in one of my worlds. It looks like a spinning orb floating above the ground. I've tried deleting it and it works but reappears each time I relog. Does anyone know what it is or how I could get it to disappear permanently.

I've been using local c_select()c_sel():remove()

The DST Skins Checklist has been designed to help you more easily keep track of your DST skins collection.  This can be done by manually checking off items or by directly syncing the checklist with your inventory on Steam.  

The layout is fairly rustic, but it lets you view, filter, and search the skins you own, have duplicates of, or are missing in the game.  All save data is stored locally on your computer (in your browser's Local Storage).

The checklist is a single HTML file (images are all embedded) and can be used online or from your desktop:

For best compatibility, open the file using Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox; some features may not function properly in other browsers.

I originally made this for my friends and I to keep track of our skins collection, but I thought I'd also share it here.  The layout is fairly rustic, however, it does its job.

The checklist lets you save & filter items based on collection, character, color, rarity, and whether you own an item or not.  I've also included links to each skin's Steam page.

You can view the code, download, or preview the checklist here:

To use, save the HTML file to your computer and open it with your browser.  Alternatively, you can use the live preview link above, but Google Drive is discontinuing HTML web hosting at the end of August; so, the preview will cease to work after then.

The skin images are embedded (via base64 encoding) into the HTML file, so the file size is ~1.25MB.  Saving uses the Local Storage of your browser, so your save will be lost if you clear your browser's cache and/or site data.  Javascript also needs to be enabled to use the interactive features.

Warning when trying to join multiplayer

Hello, so i've recently downloaded DST again and today i wanted to try and play it but when i try to join multiplayer a warning comes up and im really not good with computers so i have no idea what it means. I've tried to go into steam and verify file integrity because one of my friends sugested it but it still didnt help.

Honestly i dont even know if im suppose to write in here but i thought i'd ask anyway

Don't Starve Together: A New Rain

Does anybody else feel as if the rain mechanic is in need of a revamp? As of now, rain only has a unique effect on WX-78. His health loss when wet makes sense for the character, but how can rain add to the other characters uniqueness? 

Wurt

Wurt is a Merm. Merms (including the king) have a default wet modifier. This makes sense, because amphibians need to stay moist to survive. They absorb water through their skin to aid in respiration. They are ectothermic, meaning they can't self-regulate their body temperature. So if they get too cold, they can die. 

Proposal: Wurt should gain a slight stat regeneration when wet, but suffer from a stat drain (other than sanity) when too wet/cold. 

Or

Wurt gains faster movement when wet, and moving drains the wetness meter. 

Wormwood

Wormwoods main crutch is his health. He's a plant. He even has quotes about how appreciative he is of the rain (if my memory serves me correct).

Proposal: Wormwood gains health regeneration in the rain. 

Misc.

Rain should be changed on the lunar island. The magic of the moon has enchanted the surrounding water with strange properties. Ooo. Ominous. 

Feel free to discuss and propose tweaks on these effects. Rain has potential. #TeamRain. This is a movement. This is... A New Rain.

Who originally wrote the Codex Umbra? Theory on Wabdul Walhazred, the occultist before Maxwell.

We know that Maxwell (born William Carter) found, a few years before 1906, dispersed in a desert in the central United States following a train accident, a tome that will radically change its existence and that of many other unsuspecting people: the Codex Umbra. Parody of the most famous Necronomicon, the tome that appears cyclically in the works of H.P. Lovecraft, the Codex Umbra contains a forbidden and ancestral knowledge, of alien creatures so incomprehensible and terrifying as to lead to madness with the only vision of them.
In Lovecraft's work the Necronomicon was a greek translation of a byzantine abbot.
Thus the Codex Umbra seems to be the Latin translation of something much more ancient and ancestral. Who was the first occultist who translated those texts and left the Codex Umbra to posterity? He could himself be a parody of the author of the original Arabic text of the Necronomicon, Abdul Alhazred. In the game, jokingly, it could be called Wabdul Walhazred, given the omnipresence of the "W" at the beginning of the names.
Could it possibly be a new DLC character? And what skills could he have?
If we are inspired by the figure of the true Abdul, he should have an immeasurable forbidden knowledge, but at the same time he should be followed by a hideous invisible creature.
Wabdul could therefore be "virtually" immortal: He discovered through ancient science how to live eternally. This means that at 0 health points it does not die, but all the damage it suffers further would decrease the sanity. Wabdul could only be killed by the shadows, and could be haunted by a shadow more dangerous than the others, which haunts him. This shadow would be invulnerable, provided you build a dagger with rare materials from all over the world (thulecite, lunar glass, prismatic gem, etc.).
Abdul would therefore be a character with a clear "personal goal" in the game: to kill the entity that has been haunting him for centuries and whispers unspeakable things to him. But like all nightmares, killing him would only give a moment of respite: because he would return again, and again, and again, in a constant and perpetual cycle...

Everytime I've tried to use these stupid things to fight Dragonfly it's just an unfun tedious chore to try twisting the game into working properly. This is supposed to be basically the main draw of Wurt, upgrading her base statistics from the King and gaining access to guards; yet their AI is so bad it's basically trial and error to get them to function in a way that results in something other than disaster.

They wander extremely far from their spawnpoint and you can't control them at all, so if you're trying to corral them and they get loose the only way to get them back inside is to feed them, but that also makes it borderline impossible to leave the corral to try to lure something like Dragonfly into it because the guard you befriended will shove into you as you're trying to get back into; and if it gets out and attacks the boss, then it attacks the guard, then all the guards will run out of the corral to fight the boss. If you try blocking them in before they run out, which is barely possible because they react so fast, you then still have to condemn that one guard to die outside which lowers your teams DPS as a whole. Wurt is a merm, yet she can't intelligibly communicate with her own people to perform any kind of competent or remotely strategic maneuvers despite the fact that these are both intelligent creatures with language, and are supposed to be trained warriors, and this is her entire gimmick. These aren't spiders, they're actual humanoid beings with language yet there's zero way to communicate with them at all. And they're guards, these aren't random creatures wandering about their property; these are guards, they're supposed to be guarding not going for a stroll across the countryside while a Dragonfly oblierates a merm child in the distance.

Wurt is a merm yet merms don't care if she's getting attacked. She's also a child, and they still don't care. There's absolutely no justification for this beyond the developers just didn't bother to code that in. And what it means is that if you want merms to fight ANYTHING, you have to recruit all of them. Which again is borderline impossible to do within the confines of a corral because you can't leave it to lure an enemy inside, because they'll all chase after you and leave it. Alternatively you can try screwing with the broken AI targeting, trying to get an enemy to proc off you and instead attack a guard so the rest of the merms will suddenly start caring that their own kind is under assault. Which also is borderline impossible because depending on the enemy their AI will not switch targeting off you even if they're being hit by something else while you actively run away. Running in circles for ten seconds while merm guards hit the boss, and it doesn't bother to attack them at all it just keeps chasing me while the rest of the guards I didn't befriend just watch. But then when I try to get the boss to focus me so I can kite it while the merms attack it too, it suddenly stops paying attention to me each time I kite and hits a merm instead; which they can only survive a few hits of before they die and the team DPS goes down.

Merms don't even react to any enemy creatures, or their comrades being in combat unless they get hurt. Again, more baseless illogical behaviour resulting from incomplete design. They'll walk around spiders, giants, dogs, anything without reacting to it despite the fact that they are supposed to be GUARDS. Even the most basic creatures in this game react to the presence of other monsters yet creatures who are the core of a characters entire gimmick couldn't be bothered to have that basic feature coded in. So if you're trying to fight something that isn't aggressive to them, again you have to screw with recruiting them all or trying to get the creature to attack them just to get them to participate in a fight. Even if their fellow guards are right beside them, in the middle of a fight, bystanding guards STILL won't get involved unless one of the fighting guards takes damage because that's the only proc the developers bothered to put in for their entire combat behaviour.

And, not only does it cost a bunch of resources to spawn these awful things in but you have to constantly babysit the King or else he'll die and they'll lose all their power, along with Wurt.

 

It's honestly bad enough that Wurt's core gimmick is literally something every character in this game can already do, recruiting allies to fight mobs; specifically bosses. She moves fast on swamp, other characters can just build road to move fast too. She can summon the King, but has to babysit him constantly just to keep up a statistic boost other characters either have on spawn or can acquire far easier. Yet the thing that's the most actually applicable and useful, having superior followers to kill bosses with (Which Winona already has so this is once again a redundant gimmick), is potentially inferior to the vanilla because the features on this pay to play characters gimmick are still not even completed to the standards of the vanilla.

Also she should be able to swim, and be immune to wetness insanity. Because her species spends all their time in a moist swamp and her wetness barks actively support her being wet, yet she is driven insane by it like any other character; and she can fall into the water without any negative benefits because she canonically can swim but it's just not in the game as a controllable feature. Doesn't matter if that would make her too "powerful" compared to characters who can generate infinite food or double damage, the canon of the actual game supports these features but they just aren't in the game because meh. Could of given her a perpetual wetness state like the Womp mod that she has to regulate, or anything to give her more downsides.

 

I purposely avoid rants because they usually accomplish nothing since if the developers aren't working to fix this, then this one rant likely won't change anything. But when I straight up have to FIGHT the game to try to make merm guards perform basic combat routines vanilla followers I didn't pay for can already do, I need to point this out somewhere.

Woodie's line for the Royal tapestry say's he's from a commonwealth. This is a bit of an error, as Canada only joined the commonwealth in 1931, almost 10 years after the game takes place.

I can see a post showing this in Steam, but thanks to their new interface I can't do a single thing about increasing the size to where I can read the tiny text, nor can I find it with a web search.  Does anyone know where else I can view it and give it some magnification?
