Showcase for tidy bases [3]

Since the previous threads got archived, and there haven't been any threads like these for a time, I decided to make a new one because I feel that in the coming days and the new updates we may see more innovative and nice base designs (like seabases for example) and I also feel that the previous threads have lots of good base/megabase/world designs we can all appreciate. Original idea of course goes to the wonderful @disies.

My bases aren't so tidy as of now, but here's the general idea:

Just a central oasis settlement surrounded by farms. Pretty simple. I'll post more recent photos when i have the time :)

What is this all about ?

- Uncompromising Mode will be a bit more than a simple mod collab, since everyone can be part of it. (Also started by Canis and me)

- You can see most of the informations on the server at the #where_am_i channel, but here is what you need to know :

  1. We have a "Fresh to Hot" system : You must start a new concept from the #mod_scrap channel and wait for feedbacks, corrections or improvements of your idea, everyone can help by submitting or reacting more stuff.
  2. Since we use the Klei's Forum emotes too, you can show your impressions over what is in #mod_scrap, if something have mostly positive results, you should rewrite it with a detailed version of your idea in #mod_submissions.
  3. We read all the submissions, and if you have been approved from the scrap, there is lot of chance we place it in a poll.
  4. The #mod_polls channel is the last step, the final vote and if your result are positive here, you're in. We will recreate your concept as original as we can from the details you give. And there you are, you improved the game experience.
  5. Everything that is added from your ideas will be compiled at the #mod_updates channel every week or so.

- The mod will be updated monthly (or so, once again) depending of the quantity and kind of submitted ideas, every features can be enabled/disabled from configurations : This have to be a uncompromising experience.

What kind of content ?

Just like before, #where_am_i channel is your friend ! But we're looking for everything, mostly what can make the game entertaining for a longer time and fix what the game is lacking on, so if it is mobs, biomes, events, minigames, bosses, equipements, ressources, weathers, effects, game modes...

anything, go for it !

The only avoided stuff is characters and tweaking what already exist in statistics, since there is mostly all what you can looks for on the workshop.

Talking about Workshop ...

We're not only a space for discussing over your ideas but we also offer you dedicated space (channel) for your creations if you are a modder or an artist.

It can helps you advertising your content, and ask for commissions, this is your place, do what you want, as long it's Don't Starve related and in #rules.

Also, we'll open a dedicated server running the U.M after the mod release this month (hopefully), you will have all the informations of the server on the Discord.

On macOS Catalina, DST wants to log all keystrokes

I am now running macOS Catalina. When I launched Don't Starve Together, I was prompted to give it access to log all keystrokes even from other apps. Why does it need this permission? And especially, why does it need to log keystrokes from other applications?

As Klei could very easily implement a difficult mode (without distorting the gaming experience through intensive modification of the world generation)

In DST the armor protects well, and protects a lot. Having even a straw armor makes the difference.
In a difficult mode I would reduce every defense percentage by half:
Tier 1 (straw armor): 33% defense.
Tier 2 (wooden armor): 60% defense.
Light Tier 3 (thulecite armor): 80% defense.
Heavy Tier 3 (marble armor / nightmare): 90% defense.
Even this small change would make any battle more hostile.

Say the sort mod. That could be made into a craft item. And the cooking pot mod made into say a cook book. I would love to see stuff like that. I don’t care if it’s as dlc.

Introducing, Klei Rewards

We are introducing a system that will allow players to collect "points" on their accounts by doing various things like subscribing to our Youtube or following us on Twitter and then use those points to get items. Currently we will be using this to distribute our out of cycle Twitch items rather than selling them as we had previously suggested. This allows players to get what they missed before or just get them without going through Twitch.

The first version of this can be found on our accounts page here: https://accounts.klei.com/account/rewards

In the future we will update the rewards program with new ways to earn more points and pick up cool rewards they may have missed, or even possibly entirely new stuff. Let us know what you think!

 

Voice volume option

Hello again, since in previous thread we found out that Wigfrid voice maybe do need a rework on opinion of some players, I would like to suggest you another poll — would you like to see a volume option for character voices only like it was done with Wigfrid umlauts?
It would be pretty useful option, since we have many sound options but this one.

This may include volume boost or lowering, since there are as many tastes on sound volume as there are players. Some may think that their character sound too quiet, some that it sound too loud.

I think "branching" in world customisation is broken

When choosing never as branching option I just get usual branching continent. Expected: large, vaguely round continent without any branches.

this could be anything. maybe it's a cheese technique you enjoy a little too much, or maybe it's just a small thing you do as the character.

I main Wes 99.9% of the time, and i've completely given up on keeping him from not starving, lol. if im playing solo, then food is free real estate, sure, but when i'm in a group, you will catch me eating only seeds so i can make sure the group doesn't completely starve to death due to me constantly needing to eat. meatballs are like, a special treat for me lmao. (I always end up being the food collector guy, so i can be the one who gets to say, "well I GOT this food, let me eat just a little of it.")

World Seeds Mod! - Generate worlds with custom world seeds

I have been hard at work implementing a highly requested feature, world seeds!
now you can set world seeds from the world gen options screen, and generate the exact same world over and over again.

Here is the rundown on world seeds:
Forest and Cave worlds can have unique seeds; you can set world seeds before generating your world/view existing world seeds here:worldseeds.thumb.png.22093cbd190f68985c6e7a23e7cfbb7b.png

Sadly, due to a(now patched) bug, worlds generated on versions before Game Update 369546 cannot be reproduced with world seeds.
To let you know if this is the case, worlds generated before that version will show you this:

You can still view the world seed by viewing the debug console log(hitting the tilde key (`) which can generally be found right below the "Esc" key)
But, you won't get an identical world when using that seed.

Inside the world, the server actions menu(that can be accessed by holding tab) has a new option:

This option will cause the world to generate anew, but using the exact same seed as the current world.
This will generate an identical world except under the following conditions:

  • The world was generated before Game Update 369546.
  • Worldgen has been updated since you generated that world(either a mod or a game update)

Regenerate World will cause a new random seed to be used.
It's not currently feasible to allow you to enter a custom seed from that menu when regenerating a world, sorry.

World seeds should be compatible with all worldgen mods(obviously, when you generate a world with a worldgen affecting mod, the seed will result in a different world than the exact same seed generating a world without any worldgen mods), if ever a mod doesn't generate an identical world, tell me about it, and I can work with the mod creator to fix it.

For dedicated servers to specify a custom seed, simply add an override called worldseed and set it to be your custom seed.

To get this mod, subscribe to [API] Gem Core, it has been bundled inside there since it uses about 17(I'm exaggerating, but it does use a lot) API features, so I figured I should just roll it out inside Gem Core. After enabling the mod, go to the Forest/Cave tabs to set the world seed.

Lastly, a huge thanks to Scott Hansen for helping me get the necessary fixes into the game itself, and helping me figure out worlds seeds better.

WHY CAN'T I PUT BEEFALO ON BOATS

I'm aware Beefalo Boats would be too OP but seriously Klei?  Boats are just shy of being large enough for a telelocator focus, meaning that my beefalo are destined to be sad and landlocked.  Not to mention my poor koalephants.  I mean it's great that you can put bunnies and moleworms on boats and all, and I certainly intend on making a slurper boat, bee boat, pig boat, spooder boat... but my dreams were absolutely shattered when I found out I couldn't make a beefalo boat.  All the bunny boats in the world won't be able to fill the gaping hole in my heart where a beefalo boat should be.

I feel like this is a massive oversight.  Klei devs, pls fix.  We need beefalo boats.

Salty Dog:

Welcome to the brine shoals. Filled with the new salt rock resource, survivors looking to stretch the life of their food with this new spice will need to brave the dreaded Cookie Cutters. And watch out for the Malbatross. Getting on it's bad side will be a weight around anyone's neck.

Facing these new dangers and coming home with the goods will make you a real salty dog!

Available now on Steam and Consoles.

Key Features:

  • The Malbatross is exploring the ocean looking for its next feast.
  • Salt Formations have sprung up in the deep ocean but beware of what else lurks in these briny pools.
  • Preserve your food with Salt Crystals or craft a Salt Box to keep your ingredients fresh.
  • Warly adds a new seasoning spice to his repertoire: Seasoning Salt.
  • Existing worlds will be automatically updated with the new content.

Hallowed Nights will be returning in a couple weeks and with it our Survivors will meet a new friend. We'll have more details soon, but we thought you might enjoy this little sample from our next short.

Progression system in dst

So a while back I made a thread where I asked if dst needed a progression system. Most people answered 'yes' but I decided to ask that question once again in a form of this poll.

In this thread I'll give my own ideas regarding the progression system. Imo the progression system should happen throughout the entire game, as 1 event that changes the entire game would be too much of a Terraria rip-off. I believe that a progression system would be a way for Klei to make game more interesting for experienced players while still keeping early game simple for the majority of players

Anyway here are some of my ideas:

-After launching a boat for the 1st time neutral turtles would begin spawing near the shoars. Could be a source of a new material to make armor/structures with

-After surviving a season the next time it'd happen it'd get more content to it:

Winter:

  1. Snowstorms could occur (no they wouldn't slow you like sandstorms do) which would spawn piles of snow around the map. Source of a new material: snow. Could be used for crafting. A new enemy would also spawn from those piles of snow. Cave entrances could get blocked and would require a shovel.
  2.  Ice bergs begin floating around the sea making sailing a bit more tough. They would also be a spawnpoint for a new enemy.
  3.  Deerclops get's an update. More attacks, a bit toughter when it comes to stats, maybe equiped with a 2nd phase

Spring: 

  1.  New enemies start spawning in the swamp and around ponds: giant worms, walking fish, tentacles respawn (if they don't already). Small rivers start flowing through the map. They wouldn't block your path but would slow you down and make you wet.
  2.  Moose/Goose gets an AoE attack
  3.  Acid rains could accur which would require a new type of protection. Umbrellas, eyebrellas etc wouldn't work

Summer:

  1.  Lavae naturally spawn from lava ponds
  2.  Sea levels decrease revealing a new island to explore or a sunken ship 
  3.  Small volcanos activate in the caves creating magma biomes

Autumn:

  1.  Winds that spawn piles of leaves. Something simmilar to tumbleweeds
  2.  Sunflowers- an actuall flower that causes overheating when you're near it. Would only spawn while you can still over heat from the world temperature. A source of a new material
  3.  New type of merm invading from the sea. Something similar to how some real life fish travel back thousands of kilometers to the place where they were born. These merms would be aggresive but also drop some unique items.

-After surviving an entire year Pigs could begin getting smarter- collecting stuff from the ground, creating tools, planting seeds in the ground (like Wormwood) and protecting them, chopping nearby trees and crafting stuff. They'd reach their 'full inteligence' after like 3 in-game years

-After making the Luanr Island crafting station full moons could have more stuff in them: gestlats spawning, influence on more creatures, moonglass chunks appearing randomly of the ground for the durration of the night etc

-Defeating the Fuelwaver would have probably the biggest impact on the game:

  • Mumsy and Billy either being a wandering npcs or having their (undestructable) houses spawb somwhere. You'd trade with them
  • We can craft some Forge-like items
  • Anything related to Them would start happening after that

-Defeating Toadstool for the 1st time could result in creatures with mushroom parasites spawning in the caves and maybe surface

Please know that I do not want the progression system to be only based around making the game harder. I simply think that progression system is a way for Klei to add a lot of content without making the early game feel like it's overpacked. For example imagine Mumsy and Billy walking around the map when you're on your 1st Autumn.

Also...

Most of the ideas I presented were described quickly as to not make this post an even bigger wall of text. Everything that i mentioned would in one way or another be usefull for a player. Either by dropping a new materials for crafting or something like that. So don't think that all of my ideas mentioned above were only about making the game harder.

Do you know any game mechanic that could not be very popular, you use for your advantage and could let us know?

For example: If you feed a pig x4 monster meat and kill it, you get 2x meat and 1x pig skin; two out of three ingredients to prototype hambat, also, you can repeat the process to get pig skin without destroying pig houses.
