A neural network writes the next Don't Starve Together

If you didn't know, there's a magical website called talktotransformer.com, which has you type in a sentence or two, and then the AI types the rest. So I was wondering- could a bot come up with a new update idea? Turns out it can.

Hey everyone!

Most of you have been wondering about the next Don't Starve Together update. We spent a lot of time making it and we're finally ready to present it to you!
 Since development is already wrapping up, here's what you can expect next:

Fossils!

There are now 18 new species introduced into Don't Starve Together that have been crafted by our Community Manager Roshana. These creatures are available on any level in the game to be used in your games of Don't Starve Together.

These plants include:

The Plant

We're not too sure what the new type of plant will look like yet and we're still exploring that. We think this plant is designed to represent a grassy terrain:

The plant will change based on what level you select. While it is intended to be used from a small garden to your larger game world, it can also be used as a living room, nursery, or house if you want it!

Another plant we plan on adding is the Grass. It's really a beautiful grass and the seeds are great... but you may be disappointed with their taste. They're very sweet, and I know from experience, it's hard to taste something as sweet as fresh honey while eating it. So I'd hate to find out they're not as sweet! I wish them well.

In addition to the fossils, we are proud to announce the newest character to the Don't Starve Together world, and it's none other than Croque Du Chevalier, the legendary animal hunter who was once a member of Team Bluebeard as well and served as one of our main leaders.

Croque Du Chevalier will be available for purchase soon after we run the Kickstarter campaign!

Is there a way to remove the world-generated roads?

Be it removing from the server itself or hiding them as a client. Does someone knows a mod or command to do this?

Cobblestones should have higher turf priority

Considering how expensive cobblestones are to craft it's a shame that they have the absolute lowest priority of any turf in the game, including barren. This means that the only way to get a pathway that's not a sliver is to double up on the cobble placement, two wide. This makes the application of roads in bases even more expensive and cumbersome.

I propose cobble be made to have a priority slightly lower than other man-made turfs such as carpet and wooden flooring. At least this way I could create a true 1-tile wide cobble road by sandwiching it between lanes of natural or barren turf. But it makes no sense to me that a crafted turf should have a lower priority than natural turfs, much less a tile which doesn't contain any turf at all.

I noticed a small ancient chest near the ancient pseudoscience station.

it rejct item when it is full.

I remember that it was used for an puzzle game to unlock lore and skin. but I was beliving it disapear with time.

Challenge : What was your hardest/funniest challenge?

There are other challenge threads but they are specific to one challenge ( as far as I saw ).

So, I'm gonna start a new thread that we can share the hardest/funniest challenge we ever did in DST, starting with my own.

 

The no-prototype challenge

So after joining a Klei server that was running on day ~71, and noticing that everything has already been looted, I decided to go for a challenge that you can not prototype any item ( nope, you can't be wicker ). This means:

  • No lantern, minerhat, etc
  • No tools other than axe and pickaxe
  • No weapon or armor ( except if you're Wigfrid, makes it too easy though )
  • No alchemy engine ( only science machine for opening gifts? )
  • No blueprints learnt
  • No thermal stone
  • No winter hats
  • No umbrella
  • No walking cane
  • No usage of prototyped items or buildings ( whether you found them or someone gives it to you )
  • NO BASE!
  • and NO to anything that needs to be prototyped

I actually managed to get a lucky tam'o shanter and make it through winter, and lived through spring using pretty parasol and straw hat until summer arrived and I was too bored to go spelunking.

It was pretty fun though, turned out you don't need anything to survive which will rule out the "WHERE IS BASE" question out of the list :D

What are some of your experiences in challenges? We would be happy to hear them!

Disappearing Items in the Ruins

I was in the ruins, where Hutch died from Damaged Clockworks. He was storing at least 1 of every gem and half a stack of the Wire and Marbles trinkets. I left the items on the ground, and fled area until Hutch respawned (since I didn't have the inventory space). When I returned, all of the items were gone. I searched and found 2 moleworms in the area. I killed them and dug their burrows, but didn't get my items returned.

Do items DESPAWN in the ruins? Do Moleworms CONSUME and DESTROY the items they pick up from the ground?

I was in a public server; I'm certain there was nobody else in the ruins with me. Could it have been a server bug?

I'm very confused...

Would you like for DST to eventually have some of these as new settings/features? [POLL]

This is another important question I couldn't fit in the poll.

Would you like to be able to play in your worlds regardless if it's an online or offline world and regardless if you're connected to the internet or not and would you like to be able to swap your offline world into an online world then your friends can come and play with you?

Yes, from me. please klei, please, please, please, please, please, please

World Seeds Mod! - Generate worlds with custom world seeds

I have been hard at work implementing a highly requested feature, world seeds!
now you can set world seeds from the world gen options screen, and generate the exact same world over and over again.

Here is the rundown on world seeds:
Forest and Cave worlds can have unique seeds; you can set world seeds before generating your world/view existing world seeds here:worldseeds.thumb.png.22093cbd190f68985c6e7a23e7cfbb7b.png

Sadly, due to a(now patched) bug, worlds generated on versions before Game Update 369546 cannot be reproduced with world seeds.
To let you know if this is the case, worlds generated before that version will show you this:

You can still view the world seed by viewing the debug console log(hitting the tilde key (`) which can generally be found right below the "Esc" key)
But, you won't get an identical world when using that seed.

Inside the world, the server actions menu(that can be accessed by holding tab) has a new option:

This option will cause the world to generate anew, but using the exact same seed as the current world.
This will generate an identical world except under the following conditions:

  • The world was generated before Game Update 369546.
  • Worldgen has been updated since you generated that world(either a mod or a game update)

Regenerate World will cause a new random seed to be used.
It's not currently feasible to allow you to enter a custom seed from that menu when regenerating a world, sorry.

World seeds should be compatible with all worldgen mods(obviously, when you generate a world with a worldgen affecting mod, the seed will result in a different world than the exact same seed generating a world without any worldgen mods), if ever a mod doesn't generate an identical world, tell me about it, and I can work with the mod creator to fix it.

For dedicated servers to specify a custom seed, simply add an override called worldseed and set it to be your custom seed.

To get this mod, subscribe to [API] Gem Core, it has been bundled inside there since it uses about 17(I'm exaggerating, but it does use a lot) API features, so I figured I should just roll it out inside Gem Core. After enabling the mod, go to the Forest/Cave tabs to set the world seed.

Lastly, a huge thanks to Scott Hansen for helping me get the necessary fixes into the game itself, and helping me figure out worlds seeds better.

[Discussion] The Ghost System

Me and my friends were rambling to each other on one of our worlds (Me dead, and him with too low Max HP to even make a heart), when we started talking about the ghost system and how it hasn't changed much over the years. It's a little weird, since it's a pretty major part of the game.I thought it'd be something cool to talk about with you guys. 

So, what are your thoughts? Would you change or add anything about it? Maybe ghostly abilities for each character? Or is it good death deterrent without causing all too much boredom?

Rainy Summer - Lake at oasis spawned just on last day

I've played on a Klei server some days ago, joined just before start of summer and found an oasis base. It was raining a lot and all the days neither the lake was spawning nor the sandstorm was starting in the desert. I asked in chat and somebody told me it's because of the rain. Last day of summer the sandstorm suddenly started and the lake spawned.

Did anyone ever had a similar experience? I didn't even know rain is preventing the summer mechanics in the oasis desert.

My dear Wolfgang managed to trap himself while being sane and of course I mocked him by taking a screenshot and weeks later finding myself trapped in this too while being sane.

Not receiving final drops

So drops have been giving me troubles, not all of them, just the important ones.

Over the last year I have successfully received all the twitch drops from watching streams, up until 2 months ago.

The last two drop groups, those being the snowflake fridge skin, and the star caller skins, haven't been given in game. I received both the profile picture and the background for each of those categories, but never received the item skins themselves. I'm bothered because while it still gives me twitch notifications indicating I've received everything, It never actually gave me either of the final rewards. Removing and reconnecting my accounts hasn't worked, nor has continued watching of any streams. It's upsetting that I only got half the rewards when I used my time watching, and now some of them aren't even available any more.

Introducing, Klei Rewards

We are introducing a system that will allow players to collect "points" on their accounts by doing various things like subscribing to our Youtube or following us on Twitter and then use those points to get items. Currently we will be using this to distribute our out of cycle Twitch items rather than selling them as we had previously suggested. This allows players to get what they missed before or just get them without going through Twitch.

In the future we will update the rewards program with new ways to earn more points and pick up cool rewards they may have missed, or even possibly entirely new stuff. Let us know what you think!

Hi Everyone,

Basically, grab 7 other friends, pick all different characters and on an official Klei server, gather everything on the checklist above.

You can save a copy of the note, and start checking them off yourself.

 

We were talking on doing it on an EU server, we managed to only complete a small portion, but it seems to be doable, just very hard.

It feels like playing The Gorge to be honest, but using DST overall.

 

Highly recommend it if you are up for the challenge.

 

Since you probably won't reach everything on the list, you can also post screenshots of partial challenges complete, and count each check.

Would like to have this as a mod that automates the checklist (similar to bingo mod) but that might be too involved.

- Everything possible and useful by day 11

Basically, if you were playing a pub, and it was something useful to have by day 11, then it is on the everything list.

Useless items no one wants to use are basically excluded.

Showcase for tidy bases [3]

Since the previous threads got archived, and there haven't been any threads like these for a time, I decided to make a new one because I feel that in the coming days and the new updates we may see more innovative and nice base designs (like seabases for example) and I also feel that the previous threads have lots of good base/megabase/world designs we can all appreciate. Original idea of course goes to the wonderful @disies.

My bases aren't so tidy as of now, but here's the general idea:

I had an idea about an new NPC character in the DST universe that in in my eyes seems to be lore friendly and actual fun to play with !! But I need to know your opinions about it first so I can elaborate better mine and make a better text about it,so feel free to share your ideas with me : )
