Soloing toadstool

$

So im going to create a solo dst world but the only problem that i currently have is that i really cant find a way to solo toadstool without wasting huge amounts of expensive items like weatherpains.

Do you guys have any tips on how to solo toadstool without wasting tons of dark swords, weatherpains etc?

Tips on how to be Courteous to Fellow Players

$
0
0

Now this thread is not meant to call anyone out, nor is it about venting your frustrations over mistakes noobs make. These are tips aimed more at showing ways of being considerate than improving your skill at the game.

I don't have a lot of time for playing computer games, so when I play DST I tend to hop on a random server and help out all I can before I have to leave (sometimes hosting my own server if I can't find one, which tends to be lonely), and I thought it would be nice to share ways I've found of not being a liability and not getting on peoples bad sides. I'd like to see other peoples tips too, in case there's some I've missed or just haven't thought of. So here's mine :3

  • Don't ask where the Base is Right After Joining: This one's simple, but it goes a long way in not annoying people. Now I know that when you first enter a server you want to know where you can come to at night to cook and spam the /dance emote, but be patient. If you aren't given directions or offered an escort, explore, gather some things, get your bearings. People will respect you more if you survive a few days before asking where the base is located. Who knows, you may even find it on your own!
  • Don't Pick Everything: When first entering one of the many randomly generated islands, our brains tend to immediately slip into PICK ALL THE THINGS mode, especially those of us who've spent a fair amount of time in the single player game. However, when playing in multipayer, one has to stop and think, "Hey, if I systematically pick every bit of flint, grass, twigs, and food from around the portal in a ten mile radius, then there won't be anything left for new players!" Please, be considerate. How can you expect new players to survive a few days if they can't even scrounge up enough for a torch?
  • Drop some Flint by the Portal: It's a small thing that'll help out people just entering the server. You don't even have to go out of the way to do it; if you happen to be pasing by the portal and have some flint to spare, just drop some by it, or make a pickaxe to leave behind so they can collect their own. Heck, I've heard of people making a chest by the portal containing equipment like torches, rabbit earmuffs, and pickaxes to help new players out.
  • Don't Enter in Winter or Summer: Pay attention to the day and season of the server you're joining. If you want to join in a difficult season for some extra challenge, go ahead. Just don't expect everyone to drop what they're doing to help you out.
  • If you don't want Strangers, set a Password: You'd think this one would be a no brainer, but I've heard a lot of stories of people joining servers just to be kicked the moment they enter. I assume it only happens when someone doesn't know that they can make a password for they're server, but still, it's rude.
  • Drop your Stuff Before you Leave: Before you leave a server, it's nice to drop your items on the ground so others can use them. If you're playing with familiar people on a server you know you'll be on again, you can keep your equipment. In any case it's still rude to leave with gears, a big stack of silk, or any other important items still in your inventory, selfishly taking them out of reach of the unfortunate players left on the server.
  • Keep Busy: Look around the base. Does it still need some drying racks? A crockpot? Some farms? Do the traps need to be emptyed? Are you low on wood? Look around for things that need to be done, and if you're having trouble finding something, it never hurts to ask. No one likes a leach.

I hope you enjoyed reading through my wall of text and I didn't waste your time. Feel free to post helpful tips of your own, and you might help a few people become a little more helpful. Maybe.

If you want a tldr just read the bold text.

Bee Farm destroyed, Bug?

$
0
0

Hi.

Since it's the second time this has happened, i'm wondering if it's a bug.

After some time i go back to my bee farm which consisted of 3 bee boxes, several flowers and a stone wall around them, only to find them all destroyed, except the flowers. This happened already in another world. My base was ok and the distance between farm and base was around 1 to 1 1/2 screens.

What i know is that it wasn't a deerclops, because i lured him into a completely different region. It also was no fire (no ashes). If i remember correctly, it happened during a time where bees don't spawn (winter & ...?). The bee wax, honey and planks were still there in booth cases.

It's really frustrating me because bee hives are not renewable and catching 12 bees again is a pain in the ass. Also because it seems to happen every time i make a bee farm, after a random amount of time.

Hey everyone, as you know we’ve been working on A New Reign - there’s a lot of content that's being added into Don't Starve Together and we need your help in testing it to make sure that we didn’t break things on the live branch while adding content to multiplayer.

If you would like to jump into our testing branch, we would really appreciate you letting us know if anything is broken or missing.

A New Reign Beta Requirements:

  • You must own Don't Starve Together
  • The game must not be running when opting into the beta branch

How to access the A New Reign BETA Branch

  • In steam click on Library > Games.
  • Scroll down to Don't Starve Together.
  • Right-click, select Properties.

Give me some Wickerbottom tips.

Here's all I know:
Applied Horticulture is good for mass berry and crop production.

Tentacles are OP.

You can use the End is Nigh for combat purposes, charging Volt Goats, or charging your fellow WX78.

Sleepytime Stories is basically just a panflute that costs sanity.

Birds of the World with a Feather Hat is quite rewarding.

Use Birds of the World, the Reed Trap setpiece, and the Feather Hat for mass blowdart production.
Here's a question for you guys:

I've heard alot about tentacles not being able to spawn on certain turfs, namely grass turf. Is this true in any situation? If I'm trapped in the middle of some walls and spawn tentacles, what will happen?

What do you know about petrified evergreens?

Hello. I have questions and the wiki doesn't help me. I get the point behind petrified trees and it is great (renewable rocks, nitre and flints). I also know it starts after few seasons ; theres a sound, a character quote and it happens. I wonder, is it just me or this act like a disease? Like, if I do not break them, it kinda infects the other ones around? Will the forest get all petrified after a while? Is there a way to prevent it to happen? Do you have any tips I wouldn't be aware?

Little-Used Items Rally

$
0
0

We have already designed a base concept for fleshing out Insanity and the presence of Them in the game, and we are now looking to compose a new concept featured around creating new uses for less used content; and branching out into fields of science the game neglects.

In a game like this, little used content is one of the worst things you can find. If something only has one practical thing it can be turned into then when you want that thing; you have to go looking for the specific resource. But if you find that resource naturally, it greatly diminishes how interesting and diverse the experience is when you find out this unique resource you discovered has barely any use. The more niche everything is, the more of a routine the game becomes instead of a real experience.

Any suggestions would be useful from experienced players on items that do not receive much all-around use in the game. Ice, moon rocks, gears. Things that have more specific uses and thus end up being neglected potentially after that use has been fulfilled; or while people are saving up.

Seasons in order of difficulty

Easiest to hardest:

Autumn

Winter

Spring

Summer

It is hard to get experience in the summer because by then most players have left and newcomers restart the game.   I've found it is quite easy to make it through the first three without dying once but summer was a challenge especially when you try to wing it without looking stuff up...

All Released Skins (as of now)

So, back in July I made a thread showing off all of the concept art skins before we knew about the clothes system. Since then, the thread died off as it was no longer relevant. So I was thinking, "Hey, the wiki doesn't really show off all of the new clothes, someone should do something about that." But since I can't edit the wiki (or know how to), made this thread showing off all the skins that Klei has released to DST as of now. I will update this thread with new skins as they roll out. enjoy!

The Mod Rarity Thread

This game really needs some automation

$
0
0

Many actions have to be repeated many times when dealing with many items, and currently it requires one mouse click per item. This usually results in boring mouse-clicking for a quite a long time. Many games have implemented a way to deal with lots of items. i believe DST needs this as well, especially since it's multiplayer game where people collect way more stuff than single player would ever do in DS.

I tried to make up a list of actions which need automation, provide examples as well as include possible solution.

a-c apply to 1 and b-c apply to 2.

a) Cooking over fire. Most frequently it applies to cooking monster meat to later turn it into eggs. Imagine that you have to click on fire X times for all X monster meats u got.

b) Feeding something to a bird in birdcage.

c) Giving pigking meats & trinkets for gold.

1. Doing action related to structure. It could be done via holding down space button while also carrying items in hands (outside of inventory) standing next to the structure.

2. Picking items returned by the structure. Here, I suggest to make those structures return items directly to player's inventory instead of dropping them on the ground, because ultimately they all will have to be picked up by the player.

(I know that it can also be improved in many ways, especially through modding, like making some kind of dispenser which automatically does the action related to structure it is placed next to, as well as gather items returned by this structure.)

3. Crafting items which are often needed in large amounts, like ropes, boards, cut stones, gunpowder, tooth traps, walls and so on. Possible solution would be adding "Build All" button next to "Build" one. In this case players will have to be cautious to drop stuff they don't want to be crafted, though I believe it will take way less time than manually clicking "Build" button to craft every single item.

4. Harvesting farmables. I can't come up with simple solution, rather than using lureplant, even though it requires special spacing for farmables, due to relatively unpredictable pattern of eyeplants spawning. So, one idea would be making new item crafted from lureplant, that will somehow harvest stuff within its woking radius without eyeplants (possibly using animation like shadow stage hand coming from the ground).

That's all that came into my mind as of yet, feel free to reply in comments if I forgot something. I hope some of those will be addressed, especially since we have been shown that developers actually read feedback, taking into consideration the fact how quickly they fixed lantern exploit after just single person reporting it comments section.

Finding the Stagehand

$
0
0

I managed to come across a stagehand in my Reign of Giants world, but i didn't have any hammers and was using a lantern instead of a torch. Unfortunately I've completely forgotten where it is. When i went back to where I thought it was, it wasn't there. I even checked on my map but it seems there's no marker for it, unless there is one and I just haven't found it yet. Do stagehands despawn, or move around even when there isn't a light source nearby? Will there be another one somewhere or have I missed my only chance of getting an end table blueprint?

New characters?

I'm so bored of the current set of characters, you think we'll get some new ones soon?

I thought we could brainstorm. If you have any ideas for any, share em. I really would like one that has night vision and suffers during daylight (maybe has limited vision during day), something that's ideal for living underground...a mole person! Ok, that's terrible. Come up with something better.

I recently bought DST with a group of friends, we've been trying to play but one of them in particular experiences horrible lag when we play together, if i host, his game is unplayable, and if we play in a dedicated server he eventually spikes anyways, i've told him to play in windowed mode in a smaller resolution, but he says he can't change the resolution, it stays locked at 1200x or so. He has played solo and has no lag at all.

My other friend has no problem whatsoever (he plays windowed too). It's really frustating since i don't know what could be his problem, if it's location (we all live in different countries) or something else, we've played other online games together so this is the first time we've had this much difficulty trying to get a game going.

hey guys

i know this is a very noobish question but i have to ask. i really have no idea how to avoide enraged mod in dragonfly. when im in middle of fighting with her, she go to magma pools and spawn lavae.  and as wiki says:

Quote

if all are killed, the Dragonfly will become enraged.

and i didnt kill them (i make a wall around myself). but she go to enraged mod anyway!. even i make a ice flingomachine and make that lavaes freez but she still go to enraged mod and i cant kill her like that.

i saw some videos in youtube but i couldnt figure out what they did to avoid that enraged mod. they just doing nothing with that lavaes, so was i.

but i dont know why she go angry :D

can someoney explain to me?

thx and sry for my bad english.

Clockwork (Chess) Biome/Setpiece on Oasis

So I was playing on an ANR beta server when I came across this odd setpiece. Usually this setpiece of two clockwork knights and a skeleton with two gears and a spear should be on some marble and carpet turf, but because setpiece spawned in/around the oasis, the turf didn't spawn. Not sure if this is intended or a bug, or what will happen to the knight when summer arrives and the lake fill with water.
