Xbox + Steam merge?

$

I just wanted to vent my mild frustration right now. I have approx. $19 worth of DST skins on my Xbox account, and after I've bought the game on steam I can't connect the two! I just found this a bit annoying, I really hope they add this soon since I saw it was available for Epic Games.

I cannot believe Moon glass axes are better then glass cutters....

So the Glass Cutter has the unique trait where it has more durability when attacking shadow creatures, some of you may not know this but the Moon Glass Axe has this exact same perk. Some of you might think this innocuous but I well, did the math.
422178043_MoonGlassAxe.png.29af83b0acb57f288dd577071fef44b2.png
Both items cost moon glass, but the cutter costs 6 while the axe costs 3 this already makes the axe already more efficient in terms of cost, but I see you typing "the axe isn't even a weapon." well it actually has 34 damage, which is the same as a spear, and 200 durability(when attacking shadows) while the glass cutter has 68 damage and 150 durability(also when attacking shadows), and the total damage is
6800 for the moon glass axe
and 10200 for the glass cutter
but as I said before the axe is cheaper than the cutter so with 6 moon glass you could make two axes, bringing the total axe damage to 13600. So you would add 3400 damage for the same cost of moon glass, albeit 34 damage is less than 68 so it would apply slightly slower.301920035_GlassCutter.png.5d5d79d82dc6fc5b5e74a454cae3a74e.png

So what this basically means if you only attack shadow creatures with axes instead of cutters you basically cheat the system. This is almost as bad as how they balance turf, eat your heart out, Zark...

Beefalo Domestication Loss is a Joke Now!

$
0
0

With the Wes rework, Klei also "Fixed a bug causing beefalos to lose domestication 10 times faster than they should". Beefalo already lost domestication rather slowly at first. Now, it's nothing.

Below is what changed in the domesticatable.lua file. The variable DECAY_TASK_PERIOD = 10. So before, the domestication loss was straight up multiplied by 10 before being applied. Seems pretty intentional to me but apparently it was a bug.

      DoDeltaDomestication(self, CalculateLoss(GetTime(), self.lastdomesticationgain) * DECAY_TASK_PERIOD)
      DoDeltaDomestication(self, CalculateLoss(GetTime(), self.lastdomesticationgain))

Every 10 seconds, unless the beefalo is sleeping or near a salt lick, it either gains or loses domestication. It gains domestication unless its both unmounted AND unfed. In this rare case, the beefalo loses domestication.

TOTAL_DAY_TIME = 480
BEEFALO_DOMESTICATION_LOSE_DOMESTICATION = -1/(total_day_time*4),
BEEFALO_DOMESTICATION_MAX_LOSS_DAYS = 10,

local function CalculateLoss(currenttime, lastgaintime)
    local delta = currenttime-lastgaintime
    local ratio = math.min(delta/(TUNING.BEEFALO_DOMESTICATION_MAX_LOSS_DAYS*TUNING.TOTAL_DAY_TIME), 1.0)
    return TUNING.BEEFALO_DOMESTICATION_LOSE_DOMESTICATION * ratio
end

So let's say you just left your beefalo. The delta value is 10. The ratio would then be 10/(10*480) or 1/480. And 1/480 * 1/(4*480) = 0.000001085. This is 1/9216%. Domestication gain is always 1/9.6%, which is almost 1000x more than this loss.

Domestication loss does increase each time, though. The formula can be simplified to just number of 10 seconds since last gain divided by 9216%. A full day of domestication loss is a total of -0.1276% lost. This is slightly more than one point of domestication gain. 2 days of loss can still be made up in less than a minute of riding. 5 whole days of loss costs 5 minutes of gain. Previously, the beefalo would lose all it's domestication in about 8.9 days and go feral. Now? Now that just takes 2 days of riding to recover.

After 10 days of loss, domestication loss maxes out at about 0.052% every 10 seconds. Still, precisely half of what would be gained.

Salt licks pause domestication loss if your beefalo is nearby, and they can last 15 days. They pause something that's almost unnoticeable to begin with. They're useful if you're keeping multiple tamed beefalos in a solo world. Otherwise, keep them with your saddlehorns.

EDIT: By the way, it now takes 45 days of domestication loss for a fully tamed beefalo to go feral.

is there a command in game to spawn a weapon with custom stats?

i know how to spawn a weapon with custom damage, but i dont know if there is a way to spawn a weapon that gives you 2000 max health or to spawn a spear that on hit freezes you, i just want to know if there is a way to this happens

and if you know how to put 2 components too will be very useful because i want to do this code and i dont know how to make these 2 components work, normally just one of them work: c_spawn("spider")ThePlayer.Transform:SetScale(5, 5, 5).components.health:SetMaxHealth(1)
the command works alone but when i put the maxhealth component only the size works and the health keeps the same

I feel like the ocean needs another landmass, bigger than lunar perhaps. A few biomes, an npc group like the pigs or rabbits but different. Tropical maybe? I know they won’t borrow much from shipwrecked but we do need somewhere new to explore, and a new reason to sail.

Beefalo, no matter what Tendency they have, if they use face skin, their mouth are the same.

Clean Sweeper Update Idea

$

0

I think everyone here knows how Clean Sweeper works in game and how useful it is to sometimes grab it and walk around your base and change an appearance of a thing or two. But are you also upset (while doing so) catching yourself trying to "sweep" a flower or berry bush?

It would be really cool to be able to change a shape of things that have more then one appearance with this item. There's more like skeletons, desert bones, cactuses, trees, pigs and probably some more.

I know there's a "rose" flower who works a bit different then other flowers and less common berry bush is not used in a berry bush hat recipe but I think it's still doable with some logical ideas. They could add a skin for berry bush that looks like the other one and then combine them into one prefab with two separate skins. Rose could be still exceptional and force player to plant butterflies until you will eventually get one but trying to plant some random flowers when you want them to look exactly how you desire is a pain in current format.

Tell me what you think about that. Maybe only I'm this crazy about details and your flower gardens looks completely random compared to mine but for me this "update" is really needed for Clean Sweeper.

imagine Klei just stop updating DST for 3 years on one platform, came back to update the game with some bug fix (which they didn't even fix all the most popular bug), then disappear for the next 2 years while adding a QoL update for the other platform. During that time, the forum of the game is dead and the dev doesn't even respond to bug report from the player

after 2 years, they pop up again, turn that QoL update from back then into a separate game that you have to rent for it while the orginal version stays dead

and that version has bug that the dev won't respond to too

Character Commentary Appreciation [DST]

$
0
0

So, I, as a newer player (I only have been playing DST for a few months now), main Winona, and I just have to say that I love her in-game quotes. Whenever I play, I literally go out of my way in some of my worlds just to examine something to see what her comment on it will be. I just highly appreciate how her character shines through her words (and another plus is the fact that some hint at possible lore, which I'm assuming most people know already).

Recently, I have begun to explore some more characters as well (Wilson and WX-78), and I find Wilson's quotes (though quite a bit of it is simply saying what the item does, from what I've seen) to be adorable, and WX-78's quips are just downright hilarious to me. I'm planning on trying out Walter and Wigfrid soon, too.

I'm just going to share a few quotes that I can remember off the top of my head, and I encourage you guys to do the same! I don't think I have explored enough of this community to know exactly how much people have really stopped to appreciate the writing the developers have not only put into the characters' stories, but the writing simply put into developing their personalities too.

Winona:

  • any of the pun quotes
  • (boulder) "Mhm, yep. That's a rock."
  • (some tree, can't remember which one) "Yep. Definitely a tree."
  • (red cap) "Let Max try it first."
  • (hot dragon chili salad) "Can't believe Warly's got me eatin' salads."
  • (carrying a marble sculpture... sometimes) "Like eggs in coffee!"

Wilson:

  • any of the pun quotes
  • (redbird in inventory) "He likes my pocket."
  • (closed eyebone, meaning Chester's dead) "It went to sleep."
  • (Woby) "It's a scientific fact that petting a good dog will improve your day.
  • (evergreen) "It's all piney."
  • (rose) "To match my rosy cheeks."

WX-78

  • (talking to the plants) "I'M NOT TALKING TO YOU." "THIS IS ME NOT TALKING TO YOU."
  • (I think a feather...?) "WHY IS THE FEATHER SO APPEALING? EXPLAIN NOW, FLESHLINGS."
  • (science machine) "MOTHER?"
  • (burnt crockpot) "POT MALFUNCTIONING."
  • (something burning, can't remember what) "IT'S BURNING. OH WELL."
  • (rabbit earmuffs) "I WILL UTILIZE THEIR FURRINESS."

All in all, appreciation for the characters' quotes (Wes may not have quotes, but he still has his pantomimes! ^v^)

Serious analysis about the usefulness of Wes

$
0
0

The title is not a joke...

I'm the one who think Wes still needs his own unique ability in returns of the hard disadvantages of his character. But even in the current state Wes might be surprisingly a biiit more useful than other characters in a few situations. Wes' damage multiplier and tool efficiency is 0.75 (75%), but in returns he can use his weapons and tools 33% more. This is not useful in most of situations, but when using specific weapons and tools he can actually slightly more useful than others. There are currently a few items actually viable for Wes. I tested almost every kinds of tools and weapons with special ability, but disappointingly, the items that does not affected by Wes' durability perk is far more than the items does affected. Here's 4 weapons which makes Wes slightly more useful :

64?cb=2013070304122564?cb=20130314190529

Firstly Ice and fire staff. Wes can use those staffs 27 times (7 times more) without taking any disadvantage. You don't require more hits to freeze the same enemy.

64?cb=20130606054727

Secondly bat bat. Wes can use bat bat 100 times (25 times more), can heal 170 hp (6.8 * 25) more than normal.

64?cb=20130815072926

Thirdly thulecite club. Wes can use club 267 times (67 times more), deal approximately 1500 total damage more (16500 -> 18000 total damage with one thulcite club, but still a joke to Wolfgang)

64?cb=20180920113733

Lastly tail o' three cats. This weapon make mobs lose their aggro with a low chance per hit. Not a good weapon but Wes can use it longer than others.

Those four items are all as far as I know. Not that many, but if you have a moment to play Wes you can take advantage of it. Also Wigfrid's battle song "Weaponized Warble" can provides almost similar effect, but it can only be used by limited combat situations and doesn't affect tool durability, and Wigfrid's 1.25 damage multiplier doesn't affect on shadow tentacles.

And here's a list of items that doesn't affected by Wes :

64?cb=2019051719531064?cb=2013012920010664?cb=2012121610150264?cb=2020112620412564?cb=2020112621120864?cb=2012121609444564?cb=2014040302050664?cb=2021040403341164?cb=2014041719391864?cb=2020041619181664?cb=2013062617334164?cb=2013081418501264?cb=2013071707020364?cb=20170514182655

Oars, Watering cans, Garden hoes, Shovels, Pitchfork, Brush, Luxury fan, Pan flute, Weather pain, Telelocator staff, Fishing rod, Strident trident (right click), The lazy explorer, Star caller's staff and Deconstruction staff. (besides armors, clothes, amulets and equippable light sources)

As you see, Wes' perk to have more tool durability is a little bit inconsistent at this point. So I suggest Wes' durability perk affected to some of the magic items too. This perk has very good potential to become more interesting and 33% more durability isn't that overpowered and you still cannot spam using items, this change can make Wes actually enjoyable challenge character for players who loves to use those magic items and tools.  Some still says expecting usefulness from Wes is silly, but what's the bad reason for giving an enjoyable, unique perk to Wes in his actual "character rework"? I suppose reworks are focused on spotlighting the underrated characters, and Wes has been neglected for more than 6 years since the release of DST. I just sincerely wanna see many players actually enjoy playing Wes, and don't want to see Wes neglected again like before the refresh, considered as "hard but not fun to play". Wes also needs unique ability to choose diverse strategies differentiated from other characters.

Feature Request - Steam Streaming default audio to Streaming Speakers

$

I've a minor feature/fix request I was hoping perhaps could one day be looked into. Generally, I play DST on a somewhat underpowered laptop I can take with me around the house. However, I've recently begun streaming DST from my main gaming PC and have been very pleased with the increased performance and general quality improvement on my laptop. One issue I've found though is that DST doesn't swap audio to "Steam Steaming Speakers" automatically when the game is started to be streamed. In order to get audio on my laptop from my gaming PC, I need to manually set "Steam Streaming Speakers" as the default audio device for my OS before getting up from my gaming PC, then I need to manually switch it back when I come back. This is a minor inconvenience, but I do forget often enough that I've been motivated to write this post.

Does anyone else have this issue with Steam Streaming? Perhaps I've something setup incorrectly?

Initial Exploration Is Boring

Look, this game is great, but there's one issue I have: if you want to survive, you have to find the right base location. You have to explore. But in this game, exploration entails holding w for an hour straight. Not fun. For someone like me, who has never survived past the first winter (in singleplayer ds, in dst i cant survive a week.) it becomes very tiresome cause that's basically all you ever do. you usually die before you can finish building your base. Klei has some issues

I don't know if anyone else have found random cooked food on the floor?

In my solo world I happened to find some cooked wobsters in the middle of land, as well as berries, tall bird eggs, etc etc. It seems to always spawn at the same spot, but it's just odd and actually helpful at times to just find a bunch of cooked food on the floor. Seems like a funny bug to me :P

Does it worth to farm crops if I play solo ?

Usually I farm potatoes for healing and sustaining but wormwood doesnt need healing foods. So I planning to make 8 beeboxes and build base in swamp.

I can make Honey drugs and eat the honey and I will not need to spend time to taking care of plants.

Well, you know the question. Thanks in advance!
