A thread like this existed before but I'm afraid it fell deep into the archive, so here is a new one. You can post funny, odd and terrible pictures that you made while playing DST.

 

Here are some from my collection:

Love this one because it looks like as if the third bunny from the right (not counting the bunny behind the hut) is throwing the small bunny.

My dear Wolfgang managed to trap himself while being sane and of course I mocked him by taking a screenshot and weeks later finding myself trapped in this too while being sane.

Klei adding more characters instead of finishing the refreshs

They are adding more and more characters and at this point they started to lose originalty for example wurt is just and existing mob made cuter ,

they should finish the reworks and contine uptating the actual game , I feel like the whole rutern of them uptates are weak compared to the new reign stuff , quality started dropping since they added fuelweaver and while some uptates like moon island is good there is not much to do unlike mines , sea isnt very fun to explore since there isnt much to see and the new bosses are pretty boring with bad drops

I dont know if this will contine like this but I think they should stop with new characters and skins at least , especially skin , they bring nothing to table and most of the time you cant see them beacuse you are wearing armor or backpack

What skins would you give to characters ported from DLC?

Whenever a new character is added to DST that is either, completely new(e.g. Wortox or Wurt) or ported from existing DLC(e.g. Warly or Wormwood), they have all had three skins released alongside them, so which characters would you choose to port to DST and what skins would you give them? 

I would port a reworked Walani to DST and for skins I would give her:

More traditional surfer attire, such as a Wetsuit.

A volcano themed Magmatic set.

A mermaid skin. (I might attempt to draw this but my art is terrible)

What's the driving rationale behind item/mechanic design decisions?

Hi Folks,

I know that there are multiple factors that go into game design decisions for a game like DST:

- Game should be enjoyable for both casual and expert players. (this is done by making boss fights optional)

- Game should feel playable regardless of number of players. (this is done by having difficulty scaling to number of players, eg. hounds are per-player)

- Game should not change drastically at any point. Most changes should be additions to avoid alienating longtime players.

etc.

Even with this being the case, I couldnt find good explanations for why the devs decided to make certain things the way they are. For example:

- Pathing system (most strats and optimal patterns revolve around units continuing to walk indefinitely)

- Science Machine v/s alchemy engine crafts ( certain things are just straight-up never used past day 10 or so )

- Item effectiveness cliffs. (upgraded items are drastically better than downgraded versions, to the extent that rushing things is very often the ideal approach)

What are your thoughts?

In case you missed how this works, we’ll post a thread for one of the animated shorts with a link to YouTube, and you can nominate your favorite scene by posting a screenshot. Cast your vote by giving one or more of the nominated scenes an emoji response. After a week we'll tally up the results and add a Vignette based on the winning scene into a future build of the game.

Try to avoid nominating a similar scene to one that's already been posted. We'll remove nominations if we feel they are too similar to an existing nomination or the Vignette we already made, or in the case of shenanigans ;)


The next short is Warly's short, Taste of Home. Is someone cutting onions? :cry:

On mods and character quotes

Something I've been curious about, what are your thoughts on quotes in mods?

Do you like it when mods use unique quotes for all vanilla characters? Do you prefer mods with unique quotes? Or do you just not care at all about quotes and will play a mod regardless?  Myself personally, I prefer when a mod includes character quotes, and have gone out of my way on some occasions to give quotes(even though I'm not good at it).

This is obviously a question for those who play mods, so it doesn't affect those who don't.

Hi i tried to make oven with 6 grass tuft probaly you saw from youtube but it didnt work i cant plant walls closer enough so i tried to d osomething similiar with that.

i built it and it didnt work also. iam tired so much. is there any mod that have cache build or something ?

Do you know any game mechanic that could not be very popular, you use for your advantage and could let us know?

For example: If you feed a pig x4 monster meat and kill it, you get 2x meat and 1x pig skin; two out of three ingredients to prototype hambat, also, you can repeat the process to get pig skin without destroying pig houses.

Console

We need to get the console version updated with fixes from to beta version so we expect this update to be available for console early next week. Of course, everything is taking a little extra time right now, so it may take longer than we think, but we'll post if we find out there has been a significant change in timing.  

Final Note

On to the next thing! Now is a good time to mention that we are currently in the middle of evaluating our schedule. We're definitely beginning to see issues creep in from our current situation working from home. We're looking to shift things around a bit so we can still have something for you every month but the next update will likely be smaller as we work on the larger stuff like the next new character and the next Return of Them update. When we have more information on that, we'll let you know. 


Update #406355 Notes:

  • The Crabby Hermit and Crabking are retrofitted into existing world.
  • The player can now board boats while mounted.
  • The player can now board boats while lifting a heavy object.
  • The distance you can jump to embark and disembark has been adjusted and is now based on how fast your character is moving.
  • Irreplaceable inventory items no longer slip out of your inventory when drowning in the ocean
  • Creatures that follow you onto a boat will now wash ashore (instead of die) when the boats sinks
  • Changed the ingredients required to craft the Tackle Receptacle.
  • Boat Patch also repairs boat damage
  • Added Clean Sweeper for changing item skins.

More gears

I'm really kind of bummed and also a little bit peeved. I like to play games as vanilla as possible, without any mods, but in my current world that my friend and I are playing on (Day 121) we have fully explored the map and have only encountered two small clockwork setpieces. One of them had a single Knight and a single Bishop, and the other one only had a Knight, for a grand total of six gears in our overworld.

This was just enough to get by originally but now we are moving our base which requires moving our Ice Flingomatics... but we would only get enough gears back from hammering to build one Ice Flingomatic. We've made it through a year and are prepping for Caves, but I'm not confident we're strong enough to brave Ruins yet, which seems to be the only other place to get gears?

We've spent multiple full days harvesting tumbleweeds to no avail. We have tried digging lots of graves and still nothing. 

Why is the game programmed to possibly generate worlds with such minimal gears? I'll admit I'm pretty frustrated. If gears are such a necessary item for lots of things (and WX-78 EATS them for goodness sake), why can they be so hard to come by? It seems that at very least the clockwork set piece spawns should be increased, or the chance of picking them from tumbleweeds should be boosted. What should my friend and I do to find more gears on our server??

Should Klei make a QOL Update?

I made this topic to get an idea of how other people think about a brand new QOL update being made. This would be perfect time because as Jason himself said:

And so with that, it is no surprise that they won’t be the most coordinated, but this new update would take less time then a update with new content and would allow them to give us long awaited changes while also buying them time to make the next actual content update. Anyhow, here are some ideas to what a QOL update might look like:

  • Re balancing some crafting recipes like the Night Armor, Marble Suit, and Insulated Pack

  • Adding a way for some to use the lazy deserter without some one to assist

  • Adding the option to turn off right click indicators for items like the lazy explorer or Wortox

  • Adding a way to counter disease

  • Make Sculptures Sketches being added to the player’s crafting menu when near a sculpting table instead of having them linked to the table itself,

  • Having a failsafe if the world gen glitches out without marble sculptures

  • Tweaking when certain things can be crafted (like the winter/beefalo hat)

  • Giving special buffs to foods that require rare or out the way materials to make like Butter and Eels and Honeycombs (not honey, the honeycombs)

  • Making some items more or less rare then they are now

Those are basic ideas but feel free to share some of yours as long as they aren’t something ludicrously difficult to implement like personalized restrictions on what characters can and can’t do beyond basic admin privileges. The prime idea is to take something in the game, but add more utility or rebalance it instead of making a new complex system. Thank you to anyone who answers and have a good day.

Decorations, Shrines and Base Designs

Hey everyone! My love for designing is thriving and I've been feeling inspired lately and really wanted a place to share some of the things I've been working on. I love making shrines and designs in worlds whether it's big or small, and adding cute little details to them as well. Most of what I do isn't practical and is purely for decoration.

I was originally posting screenshots of my base on this thread: 

But I feel as though my style of basing has evolved into something that cannot be categorized as tidy and I wanted to start a different thread that was for bases/worlds more on the ornamental side like mine. Plus I feel far more comfortable and way less anxious being annoying and posting heaps on my own thread than I do spamming someone else's *nervous laugh* ^-^'

Moon Stone Shrine

Don't think I'll ever be able to do the Moon Stone event ever again because I'll never be able to get a pig so perfectly back in that spot like that ahah, worth it.

Klaus Shrine/Arena

We found every Klaus spawner and plugged them with a firepit except this one, now he only ever spawns here and we fight him on the cobble stone bit to the right. This area doubles as a shrine and a fighting arena, I love it ^-^

Easily crab king (solo)

I created a simple method for you to defeat the crab king solo with any character.

I created many farms and methods, some of them are big in the community, like the tentacle method with grass walls and toadstool arena.
And i have more to share soon in my channel.

I know i use 80% of star caller's staff, but you can optimize more than me.
