feel free to leave comments about what you think or what you want to see in the maxwell rework, if and when that happens
-Waxwell, for ol' maxy i want to see him get more shadow crafts, why give him an entire crafting tab and make one of the crafts more or less useless (shadow fighters are just so bad please klei) he is literally just used for leveling entire forests at this point.
I'd also maybe like to see him get tier 1 magic tab crafts, we currently dont have a "magic" character and i feel like maxwell should get this upside.
okay now for things to balance it out, i feel like he should have a little less damage, like it says, he's frail.
what do you guys think?
what i hope to see in the maxwell rework whenever that happens
Wendy's rework, one month after
Hey! While you might have seen me around a few threads as a commenter, I don't make threads very often, and I'm a little bit anxious, so I apologize in advance if this thread has already been made, and if it has please alert me so I can delete this one.
As the title might suggest, I was curious on what the final opinion of everyone on Wendy's rework was, now that it's been awhile and people have had the time to try the character out by themselves and form their own opinions. As someone who has played as Wendy religiously since way back in the original Don't Starve, I'm quite happy with the rework, and the lore that came from the animated short aswell, but i'd like to know everyone's thoughts on this. Do you believe the rework was good, bad, or something inbetween? should other reworks be made similarly to this one or moreso like other reworks? feel free to share your thoughts, I'm really curious to hear them!

Return of Them analysis - What's next ?
Hi everyone. I hope you're feeling comfortable and that you're not afraid of spoilers because "Them" are coming for us today !
I've used the fascinating "theory" tag but I have few doubts on what is happening in Return of Them and what to expect for the next updates, before we start I have to warn you if you don't want to be spoiled on the latest and upcoming updates on the story side. Now let's get into it. (I hope you have a drink)
She Sells Sea Shells (SSSS) is one of the last updates installing an atmosphere and context before a conclusion of what I'll call the Celestial Act.
So, Is there anything important in SSSS revealing the rest of this act ? Let's have a quick recap :
This update features the Crab King and the Hermit Crab, aka Pearl, the hole point of the update is to be a gentleman and help her to restore the island and do gifts, cute. In time, you will be rewarded with Pearl's Pearl after earning enough friendship lvl. Steer to the Crab King and place the pearl on him, this will have for result to drop an additional loot after you've defeated him which can be obtained only once (cause the pearl is unique and breaks afterward).
But which loot ? The Celestial Tribute :
The Celestial Tribute at the end of the new trailer (1:05)
What's the deal with the Celestial Tribute ?
You can tell that it looks important, it's in the game but it does nothing very interesting at now, it's just an all-in-one Celestial Altar.
Which is obviously temporal and the main intend of the structure will be added later :
Its current role will certainly not be removed but rather improved to unlock the advanced recipes of the Moon Tech tree.
Don't Starve always worked this way with many other Tech trees, for the science, magic and the ruins one :
= Tier 1 science
= Tier 2 science
= Tier 1 magic
= Tier 2 magic . . .
In case you wonder, the Celestial Orb is not related to the Moon Tech tree :
No, the orb is considered as another one named "MOONORB" but I suggest you to keep an eye on it since its tech tier (MOONORB_LOW) can suggest an upgrade and it's evident when you spot the prefab name of the orb : "moonrockseed"
Whatever, it's not a surprise and the Celestial Tribute is clearly indicating it holds mysteries when you look at character inspecting quotes that I recommand you to look at :
Wilson : "It feels like it's waiting for something."
Willow : "Why do I get the feeling we aren't done yet?"
Wolfgang : "Such loud whisperings. Make head hurt."
Wendy : "The whispers... are getting louder...
WX78 : "I AM STILL WAITING FOR MOON POWERS"
Wickerbottom : "It says there's more knowledge yet to be found."
Woodie : "I don't get it, why does it feel like we're not finished yet?"
Wes : "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA" /s
Maxwell : "It is not yet time?"
Wigfrid : "It is grateful, but my work is not yet done."
Webber : "We think it says we're getting closer."
Winona : "Can't shake the feeling that this is all building up to somethin'..."
Warly : "Something tells me this is part of a bigger recipe..."
Wortox : "The stage is nearly set!"
Wormwood : "Soon"
Wurt : "It saying something..."
Some things are redundant in these quotes : such as whispers that are very common around the Lunar topic and... "something" is mentioned more than once like if the survivors wasn't sure of what they're doing and being controlled to serve the Moon.
Building "something" isn't what Wilson and the others want, it's what the source of this power is looking to achieves, otherwise it wouldn't be that much highlighted to us like if it needed to be completed. Think about it : the Moon Island want to rewards you with sanity for being here and do your stuff, it's the complete opposite of the rest of the Constant and especially the Ruins that want you to go away by making you insane.
Shadows are already thriving down here : the Ancient Civilisation were nothing less than minions exploited by dark strengths, lured from their greed for fantastic technologies granted with time, slowly but surely allowing the construction of the Ancient Gateway in the Atrium and release Shadows all over the Constant.
Look closely on this aspect of the game and you will see a pattern coming up... we're progressively freeing the Celestial side and you can tell this is not the best trade deal in the history : We've been recompensed for facing shadow creatures during our journey in the Constant with various resources like Moon Rocks and Moon Shards, we're now assembling the forgotten Celestial Tribute that was protected by the Crab King with the big conviction it will helps us.
I'm pretty sure you know the next step, right ? The Celestial power have mischievous effects on the living : we just have to look at Spiders, Pengulls, Wobsters or vegetations that exist on both of the continents, they're not doing very well on the Lunar Island... and this is the result of a small exposition rate.
Yes it can get worse, you know that your "sanity" regenerate way faster when you're getting close to the Celestial Fissures according to the Moon phases. This means that the greater source of the Celestial power is inside and slightly leaking, flipping its activity like the Nightmare Cycle and it can be extracted in order to use it.
Speaking of extraction, we have the Celestial Altar : Have you ever wondered why we can't prototype the Celestial crafts ? Not only because it wouldn't be fun, but especially because there's a missing ingredient in the game, the "Lunar Fuel"... Items like the Glass Cutter have no intrinsic powers from Moon Glass, it have to be filled with the fuel which can only be extracted in great quantity with the Celestial Altar, it's the same process with Thulecite, you must use the altar to fill it or it wouldn't work at all.
All the similarities from the Shadow and the Celestial sides seems to have no limit but they must play with equal but yet opposite elements/forces, it is not new but now more predictable nowadays, you can see the Constant as a boardgame like Chess since this one of the best pretext in Don't Starve.
So if we do another comparison with the Shadows, what was missing before SSSS on the Celestial Side ? The Crab King :
Why is the Crab King important in the story ? He's not actually very important, but he plays the same role as the Ancient Guardian, they're the protectors of the keys, cursed by the abundance of fuel like Maxwell mention for the AC. The Crab King used to be Pearl's husband, the Hermit Crab. We just don't know what exactly happened but we can speculate things went wrong with the poor lad when he received the call of the moon, and progressively turning into what rest of him today.
Now that you can compare, is there anything else missing on the Celestial side ? The Chess Pieces ?
No ! Or maybe... It's difficult to determine since the Clockworks aren't the Lunar Chess Pieces but still react to the Full Moon (strongest phase) when the Marble Sculptures are repaired :
Mining the sculptures during Full Moon result in Clockworks and New Moon in Shadow Pieces.
We could imagine it's only because Klei didn't wanted to release the Lunar Pieces before RoT but I see a more logic and interesting formula to be applied for the next update :
It involves once again the Celestial Tribute but not only because we should be addle to predict one of the new craft !
Certainly the most important one of Return of Them ! But first, why is there no Lunar Chess Pieces ?
We discovered something important earlier : Thulecite and Moon Glass have no power if it isn't filled with the proper fuel.
This also works for Shadow Creatures and Gestalts who need the fuel to persist :
- Shadow Creatures can exist everywhere except on the Moon Island, have a long time existence but will eventually disappear
- Gestalts have a short life existence since there is not enough fuel and cannot thrive out of the Moon Island
With all these informations, we can confirm that the Celestial side is too weak to take over the Constant and summon its Chess Pieces, so they have been replaced with a neutral side played with the Clockworks.
But we have an ace in the hole with this very unexpected candidate :
The Shadow Atrium is nothing more than a receptacle that have been filled with Nightmare Fuel, corrupted and now locked on the Shadow side, however it should be possible to reverse it with the Celestial Tribute and fill it with Lunar Fuel : creating the Celestial Atrium.
Now if this is the correct direction of the Celestial Act, we should be capable of interpreting the last fragment of Return of Them which is the finale on the balancing in the duel of the Shadows and the Celestial forces : An equivalent to the Ancient Fuelweaver and Ancient Gateway.
I've started to imagine a last Reanimated Skeleton unique transformation with the Celestial Atrium on the Lunar Island but even if the reanimation was an option, the Stalkers never existed in this place and I expect it more to be a "Forest Stalker like".
We have to wait for a following update and see what is exactly added, I believe the next one will reveal an unfinished part of the story just like SSSS did with the Celestial Tribute, potentially the location of the Celestial Gateway on a third part of the moon somewhere on the Constant... or maybe inside the first Lunar Island itself. If so, we'd have the freedom to speculate over it with precision and excitement.
Don't Starve Together will now accelerate the story development and I'm very proud of this game development over the ages, it took me the entire night to write this "theory" and think about it. So I hope it's a worthy investment for you and that you discovered a potential finale to RoT at my side and that you have maybe something on your mind to share and complete this somewhat puzzle.
Cheers to DST, friends !

We need to get the console version updated with fixes from to beta version so we expect this update to be available for console early next week. Final Note
On to the next thing! Now is a good time to mention that we are currently in the middle of evaluating our schedule. We're definitely beginning to see issues creep in from our current situation working from home. We're looking to shift things around a bit so we can still have something for you every month but the next update will likely be smaller as we work on the larger stuff like the next new character and the next Return of Them update. Farm: Shadow Pieces
Question: Which DLC’s or unimplemented characters would you like to see in Don’t Starve Together?
As the title says, which character would you like to have in dst? Don’t Starve Together has a variety of characters, and I think it has room for more....I’d really like to see Walani and Wheeler or Wilba in dst! I feel like they would be a great addition. Also, Warbucks would be awesome to play as, since he was scratched from Hamlet, maybe Klei could bring him back in don’t starve together?
As for unimplemented characters, I think the only one who peeled my interest was Pyro, maybe a name change for the W name rule, but other than that, I’d adore to see them in the game! The tools he has, Chester, and design is interesting and maybe he could cost money like Wortox, Wormwood and Wurt.
Now I want to see what you guys have to say, I wanna hear your ideas!
Screenshot showcase
A thread like this existed before but I'm afraid it fell deep into the archive, so here is a new one. You can post funny, odd and terrible pictures that you made while playing DST.
Here are some from my collection:
Love this one because it looks like as if the third bunny from the right (not counting the bunny behind the hut) is throwing the small bunny.
My dear Wolfgang managed to trap himself while being sane and of course I mocked him by taking a screenshot and weeks later finding myself trapped in this too while being sane.
Wigfrid is able to fish in carpet. Who would have guessed.
Can we get a real villain?
Note: This is not to discredit Charlie in any way as a villain, but to give a new perspective on a thought that had been in my mind recently.
Back when I first played the original Don't Starve, Maxwell was the original "villain" of the game; and I thought he was someone who obviously showed they were at least 20 steps above the player and had been posed as a rather large threat to them as well. At this time, we had a face, a name, a voice, and an ever looming presence of something far greater and more powerful than you can imagine all bundled into this man that both showed immense power and charisma to boot. This was all tied together in the original cinematic "Forbidden Knowledge" where we see first-hand both his influence and his sinister plans in a way that makes the player feel like this is the "Bad Guy". Fast forward some time and we get to the end of the game only to find that he is merely a pawn that was trapped in his own throne and given a large amount of power, with someone (or some"thing") feeding it to him for their amusement. Fast forward yet a little more and you discover traits about his past that gives perspective on his life and the people that were in it as well, in the form of puzzles. These puzzles gave insight as to what had happened, and they (in a sense) humanized Maxwell; he was no longer the "Puppet Master", or the "Bad Guy" that we assumed had created the Constant for his amusement.....he was William Carter, an ex-magician that was given incredible powers by an unseen force that had been pulling strings long before him, and his actions were all at the cost of both his and Charlie's freedom. Fast forward one more time and we get close to where we are now with Charlie having taken the mantle of "Puppet Master" / "Bad Guy", and Maxwell becoming both a survivor and the butt of all jokes as the "former bad guy".
This power seems to be passed down from one pawn to the next, granting the user incredible powers and manipulative authority over everything in the constant. We have (currently) seen at least 3 people harbor this power (the first being Maxwell, then technically Wilson, and then finally Charlie) only to be kicked out and replaced each time up until Charlie's Reign. This makes me think that eventually Charlie herself will be cast out as well someday, requiring the forces that are much higher than her or anyone before her to find a replacement "Monarch". Charlie's role as a pawn, just like Maxwell, is evident for a couple of reasons: she did not create the Constant, nor was she the first in her role; she was simply a human woman that was forced into this plane of existence with new powers she did not ask for. These facts make it evident that there is a supreme entity that is pulling all the strings, and is far above everyone we've seen thus far (including any of the villains we've seen in the past).
I would love if we got a new "face" as a villain; someone to take seriously as a permanent threat, and someone to shift all the blame on that is obviously the highest in the hierarchy. Pawns come and go, but when will we get a REAL King/Queen that started this all?
Can't get my twich drop! can anyone help?

Fishing and the bottle economy
So this is more of a "thank you for adding this" kinda post and to explain a quite enjoyable way i found to casually play on larger more organized servers (aka non public ones)
But with the edition of bottles that have been added to DST. They give a way for people who sail to have a sort of currency. Where it isnt used for any "crafting" other than basically buying things from the crabby hermit. and they are slightly difficult to obtain, unlike gold which you can easily get 10 chests full with one ruins rush (overexaggeration).
But because of this, i recently found enjoyment in creating little fishing communities on large servers I play on, where multiple people have their own boats and all go sailing in search of fish and treasures. Because of this, we are able to use the bottles we get to sell and trade lures and other items with other sailors. And even to the point where some even set up boat shops made specifically to sell their goods to other sailors.
And Im honestly just very happy that klei added something like this so we could create this subculture of sailors that have their own economy and their own way of living. And that klei doesnt really do anything to ruin the bottle economy. which it doesnt seem like they will, but just for example, not to make them craftable with any easily obtained items or craftable at all.
I hope I can spread this idea of making boat communities and using bottles to trade with others so that it can become a more common occurrence!
Teaser of Wilson's rework? The effects of Nightmare Throne
So there's no denying that in the She Sells Seashells trailer Wilson clearly has black arms and claws
The only other non-monster survivor with claws is Maxwell
Both of them have sat on the Nightmare Throne before.
This leads me to believe that Wilson's rework will show the effects of sitting on that Throne. Maybe even Shadow Wilson will make an apperance.
I do hope that Wilson becomes more than just a default character. Cuz right now he's just a blank character used to rate other survivors' perks
Do i need to start over with the new update?
I survived with my friends for 400 days i don't wanna start over again.
[Poll] On She Sells Seashells Postmortem

What do you guys think of the new Return of Them content? Yay or nay?
As always, answer freely and of your own will, and feel free to discuss in the comments!
Character reworks and the Importance of interesting downsides.
A common trend in the Character re-works is that the character's downsides have been largely negated. Winona's Hunger drain is Marginal at best, Woody can just ignore the curse by popping into the caves, and Wendy does extra damage to targets being attacked by abigail, which actually puts her above most characters in damage. However, I feel this really isn't a good direction to be going, and to explain why, first we need to establish why a good downside is important.
And before you say it, No. It is not (Purely) because of balance. Don't Starve together is a PvE game, which means that, Aslong as a character isn't Steam workshop levels of broken, it is perfectly fine for some characters to be stronger than others. Now that that's out of the way, let's get on with it.
Part I: It makes the character more interesting
The first reason that Character downsides are important is because they help make playing a character more interesting. By twisting your arm and forcing you to play in a way that you may not be accustomed too, a good downside can add variety or challenge too how you play the game, and sometimes can even be just as much of a reason to play the characters as their upsides.
Let's look at Warly and Wormwood as examples. Warly's re-work is unique in that it actually made his downside worse, as he can no longer eat non-crockpot foods at all. And Frankly, I'm Grateful for it. For a game called don't starve, Starvation is Rarely an issue, as most characters can just waltz around and live off of berries until they find somewhere to base. With Warly though, Starvation becomes an actual threat, requiring you to constantly be seeking new ingredients to make the variety of foods that his diet requires. Even if this aspect fades once you can reliably make Meaty stew and Bacon and eggs, it still makes using food to heal in boss fights much less effective, forcing you to ether get good or rely on another source of healing.
As for Wormwood's downside, His inability to heal from food means that *every* hit you take matters. You can't just eat a few carrots to shrug off that spider bite, Or carry yourself through a boss fight with Pierogi. By making healing much more resource intensive, it makes every point of HP much more valuable, and thus forces you to play safer and smarter than you might have otherwise.
Both of these characters Are made fun to play by their downsides. If Warly was just a Wilson with more food options, or Wormwood was just a Wilson who gains sanity from plants and has unique craftables, Neither of their characters would be particularly fun or interesting to play with.
Part II: It helps characterize the characters
A large part of why Don't starve is so memorable is because of it's memorable characters. And downsides can help expand or re-inforce the various character traits. Warly's picky eating establishes him as a bit of a snob when it comes to food, Wormwood's no food healing re-enforces that his body is entirely different than a human's, Wurt's Veganism helps flesh out the Merm species and establish that she cares about animals.
Now in all fairness, Even bad downsides can do this. Pre-rework Wendy's damage reduction helped re-enforce her being a child and that she is Woefully unready to be in the constant. And Wickerbottom's frail stomach and Insomnia establish her as an old woman who's passed her prime. This doesn't mean that all downsides do this though. Wolfgang's in particular de-establishes his character more than anything. He's supposed to be a coward by heart, but his increased sanity drain is, quite frankly, Laughable at a mere 1.1x modifier. Additionally, Because he can kill things so much quicker than other characters, he just ends up loosing less sanity from monsters than anyone else. It really just doesn't work out.
Part III: It encourages teamwork
Don't Starve together is, obviously, a team-based game. And Downsides can help encourage players to work together. Take the big 3 for example. While these characters are strong on their own, The reason that they work so well as a team is because Wickerbottom can cover both of their weaknesses and visa versa. Wolfgang looses food at a faster rate, and Wickerbottom is capable of getting that mass-producing both produce and Meat with her books. Meanwhile, the End is Nigh! Gives consistency to WX-78's Overcharge, while WX can eat the stale and spoiled food without penalty where it would go to waste with just a Wickerbottom. These characters mesh well together because there abilities combined becomes something greater than if they where all just played separately, and thus encourages teamwork.
A character like Winona though doesn't really mesh well with any characters. Characters that deal less damage might like the catapults more than a character with default damage. But she doesn't gain any benefits from Allies that other characters wouldn't also gain. Now, let's give Winona a theoretical downside of "She doesn't gain sanity from Dapper Clothing". Suddenly, She now Synergizes with any character that can help other characters gain sanity, Such as Wendy (her cistern serving as an effective sanity station), Wormwood (More ingredients to make sanity-restoring food), and Warly (Easier Access to a crock pot for Sanity restoring foods). Even if her perks leave something to be desired, She now gains more benefits from being in a team than she would have if she was on her own.
Now, something that one might rebuke this philosophy with is "But Theukon, If you make some characters better synergize with other charaters, then people are only going to play those team comps". And you're not entirely wrong. however, I don't think this will be an issue. For starters, Pubs tend to be a bit too disorganized too really worry about team comp. Second, Friends that are playing together are going to fall into 2 camps. Either A. They're going to be noobish/Experienced enough so that They're going to let the others play who they want, or B. They're all going to be try-hards and pick the "Best" characters regardless. Infact, if anything, adding more combo potential would increase the amount of Variety that the second group of players use, as there would be more viable options to play.
I think I've done a good job of Explaining why good downsides are important, But as you may have noticed, I specified "Good" downsides for a reason.
Part IV: The Bad and the Ugly
Unfortunately, Not all downsides are created equal. There are many downsides (Particularly ones from early in the game's life), that don't really contribute much, either to challenge, gameplay, or otherwise. Downsides that are only "Have lower X" or "Increased X drain" are pretty bland. they don't do much to effect how you play the character, Food is plentiful enough that Increased hunger drain is barely noticeable, and Insanity isn't threatening enough that higher drain could be seen as a good thing. And then there's Damage reduction. I hate this downside with a burning passion. It was fine in DS where things where balanced around 1 person fighting them, but then DST came along and multiplied the health of most creatures, but didn't reduce the damage reduction to balance it out. It's particularly bad against raid bosses bosses which can easily have 20k+ HP.
The downside I want to point out specifically though is Winona's First re-work downside. This downside was particularly bad because it used so much hunger that any time you saved crafting just ended up being dedicated too getting food. Again, food isn't hard, but when you effectively have a 64x hunger drain while crafting, that can make things fairly tedious.
Now, I won't pretend that Giving every character an interesting downside is an easy feat. However, As a player, I do fully belive that spending the time to make sure these characters have these interesting downsides would make them better all around, both to play and as characters. And thus, increase the life span of the game while increasing enjoyment all around.
Thank you for coming to my Ted talks.
Troubleshooting: Cannot Receive Twitch Drops?
Hello everyone, I cannot guarantee these methods would fix the issues for you but I'm making this thread in hopes of collating all the possibilities of why players cannot claim their Twitch Drops. So first and fore most, let's double check that we have all the necessary checkboxes cleared that SHOULD allow us to receive our drops.
NECESSARY INFORMATION
Klei Support Article: How to link your Twitch Account to your Klei Account
DEV(s) recent input on the matter:
- "... If all goes well, we should be updating the Klei Account page to get around this issue where you're still linked to an old twitch account./'
- "... we've changed the way twitch linking works to avoid situations where people lose access..."
If you have already properly connected your Twitch Account to your Klei Account before, here's how to make sure you've linked them correctly.
Below is the image of what your https://accounts.klei.com/account/info should show, if properly connected:
Clicking the Twitch Account Number should directly bring you to your Twitch Account's setting. Then below is the image of your Connections and under OTHER CONNECTIONS should reflect Klei Entertainment:
Also if you've accumulated enough watch times Twitch Notifications should reflect new drops, example below:
Drops are received the same way we all received our Daily Drops, upon first login of the day as soon as we enter the Main Menu of DST (after pressing Play and properly logged in).
TROUBLESHOOTING
If you've made sure of these things and you still haven't received your Twitch Drops, then follow the links below:
-
Earned Twitch Drops are not showing up in Don't Starve Together
-
Don't Starve Together items are missing from my Steam Inventory
Make sure to double check for every method mentioned in these Klei Support Articles. If you still aren't able to receive your drops by opening DST then go to Documents\Klei\DoNotStarveTogether and attach the client_log.txt file from there to your reply to this thread.
DO NOT COPY PASTE its contents to a reply. Simply DRAG-DROP the whole file from that folder into the edit box when you make a reply to this thread.
Hopefully we can figure out what's going wrong together for any outliers on this issue.
