why can you put different staffs in the moon pedestal thing

The one and only function of the moon pedestal in terms of staffs is to just turn the star caller's staff into the moon caller's staff. But you can put fire staffs and ice staffs in there too, it just doesn't do anything? Why is this a thing that you can do if nothing happens?


Abigail dmg be based on Day/night cycle or Wendy's HP ?

Well, this poll should have been made a week ago. I have mixed feelings about the recent update and, as I see, a bunch of users have too. Here we will know quantitatively what's the opinion of the fanbase. Dmg numbers can be tweaked either way, but which mechanic should the devs focus on?

FPS Droping when playing as Wendy

Today I've started (hosted) a solo game as Wendy and my fps started a massive drop 5 secs after I entered the world. I have already disabled all mods and doesn't worked. Also started (hosted) a new world as other character and the fps kept fixed in 60. I've joined another players servers as Wendy and the fps kept fixed in 60 as well. 

 

Does anyone else having the same problem? 

 

Decorations, Shrines and Base Designs

Hey everyone! My love for designing is thriving and I've been feeling inspired lately and really wanted a place to share some of the things I've been working on. I love making shrines and designs in worlds whether it's big or small, and adding cute little details to them as well. Most of what I do isn't practical and is purely for decoration.

I was originally posting screenshots of my base on this thread: 

But I feel as though my style of basing has evolved into something that cannot be categorized as tidy and I wanted to start a different thread that was for bases/worlds more on the ornamental side like mine. Plus I feel far more comfortable and way less anxious being annoying and posting heaps on my own thread than I do spamming someone else's *nervous laugh* ^-^'

Moon Stone Shrine

Don't think I'll ever be able to do the Moon Stone event ever again because I'll never be able to get a pig so perfectly back in that spot like that ahah, worth it.

Klaus Shrine/Arena

We found every Klaus spawner and plugged them with a firepit except this one, now he only ever spawns here and we fight him on the cobble stone bit to the right. This area doubles as a shrine and a fighting arena, I love it ^-^

Webber's character refresh ideas

  Webber should be one of the next reworked characters, not because it's necessary, i guess all the necessary reworks were made already, for willow and woodie. This rework is mostly to improve the character, and fit the recent reworked characters, currently webber's best use is for gathering spider resources, by making they fight each other, i think that webber perks should be more related to spider befriending, tamed spiders are more like worse pigmans, besides the fact of being able to tame more than 1 spider at once, i think that his rework could make his spider befriending perks more close to wurt's perks related to other merms.
  Webber would tame spiders in the same way, but there could be a way of making they more loyal to webber, and don't attack any of webber allies, being either non webber players and non spider pets, and walls, there would also be a limit for the army of spiders he could bring along, which would still be a large number, close to 10 spiders at once, he can also craft a special spider nest for his tamed spiders, where they would stay when not coming along him, and he would be able to craft special items to promote his spiders to special classes:
-Warrior: The most offensive class, has higher damage and health than regular spiders, and can lunge at enemies, he'll also temporarily boost nearby spiders and webber
-Ranger: able to split silk at enemies that deals damage from a further distance, similar to spitters, he'll switch to a regular spider attack once the target gets close
-Healer: eventually heals nearby spiders and webber a small amount, with a cooldown between each heal
-Stealth: disguises itself as a small boulder to lose aggro, until it reveals itself to deal a surprise lunge attack, that deals high damage at once, and applies a temporary debuff to the target
  There can only be a limited number of spider with each role for each spider army, another idea is that webber could be able to upgrade it's nest, each upgrade level would make him able to have more spiders in his army, the max level spawns his own spider queen, that is friendly to anything that webber is friend of aswell, bringing her food will instantly generate another tamed spider, webber could also have the ability to gather silk from spiders nests using a razor, but it takes a time before being able to shear the same nest again, spiders could also bring him presents, starting once his nest reaches lvl 2, and getting better for each level after it, most times the presents would be spider drops, such as silk and spider gland, but they can also bring random monster and creature loot, such as meat, monster meat and non edible loot, rarely being something valuable. the disadvantages of this rework is that webber would no longer be able to tame spiders more loyal to their own nest, being spiders from level 2 and 3 nests, or following a wild spider queen, only if their nest or queen gets destroyed.
  I think that i wrote enough already, feel free to comment any thoughts about my suggestion, and i hope dst devs could at least check this, webber is possibly the next in the rework line, i think that a rework for wess would be great aswell, i don't like the idea of a challenge character, in single player ds it makes sense, but if any player chooses wess in dst, it'll only difficult for their teamates, and they'll have to immediatelly kick him, wanting or not, unless if they want a slave, i'm still planning ideas for his rework and in the future i'll make it a post, and instead there should be a challenge mode for don't starve together.

Klei Rewards missing?

Hi, I just discovered the klei rewards and I claimed Amazing Snowball Juggler Portrait, Amazing Snowball Juggler and World's Greatest Big Top Tent  but when i go ingame nothing happens, i can change frame or my icon cause they dont show although in klei web it says "succesfully redeemed" so am I missing something? Is there another step i have to go through?  Thanks for the help!

So guys you probably know what this will be about its the Wendy refresh. Look when the rework came out about Wendy I wasn't jumping up and down about it either.

However I accepted that these were big changes and I needed take the time to learn what these changes actually meant for the character and her playstyle. Abigail's dmg being tied to Wendy's health gave her alot of new uses and with the new tracking system I was able to accomplish tasks with Abby I'd never thought possible before. I've managed to kill Dragonfly, Ancient Guardian and toadstool with Abby by my side dishing out her dps the whole time. And I'm not a great player so the mechanics I was using were nothing different than if you had to solo the boss as any other character. The only difference ofc was hp management - keeping my hp below 50 at all times was an enjoyable mechanic and, let's be honest, with any boss you fight you are probably going to bring dem honey hams with you. So what's the difference?

I've seen a number of people demand that Abigail needs to be able to fight normal giants like Deerclops or Bearger to make it easier for newer players... But why? Abby needs to have weaknesses just like any other character in the game - some are suited for fights better than others. Isn't it part of the learning curve of the character to know that Abby cant win fights against big monsters that have big AoE? And isn't it also part of the learning curve to know when it's a good time to summon Abby or not like when a menacing Deerclops is looming around the corner... :D

That being said we don't have glass cannon Wendy anymore guys and I think we lost a good thing. I was finding so many extra uses for Abby and that was only within a week! I'm certain if we were a little more patient many people more creative than myself would have found all sorts of cheese/tactics and it would have been awesome! And as for the tonics yes we know they weren't great but they could have been gradually tweaked as we got to learn the character!

So please guys be patient with this refresh, be creative, try stress testing it and after some time you can deliver really detailed feedback and we'll be closer to perfecting our dear beloved sisters!

Its the same kiting dodge you would do as any character facing Dragonfly and as for toadstool, you would ideally move to the side without boomshrooms anyway even if Abby wasn't there :D

Use Notepad to view or Hex Editor.
I tried to see if it was possible to modify but always came with a corrupted file.
It would be pretty neat if it were possible to modify them to include some of the stuff PC players are capable of! 
We could only dream.... :)

Wendy's Character Refresh is Now Available!

Today we have our next character refresh! As usual we also have some new skins and some new streaming drops. But we also have a little bit of studio news and a small teaser for the next content update. Enjoy!

Wendy clutches tightly to the memory of her twin sister, Abigail. Some days, it’s almost as if she never left…

Even from the afterlife, Abigail never stopped looking out for Wendy - and now Wendy has discovered how to return the favor. Her affinity with the supernatural has led her to the mysterious practice of Ectoherbology, allowing her to create haunting elixirs to aid her sister beyond the veil and make their bond stronger than ever before.

Here are some of the details:

  • Wendy carries a flower that can summon her sister Abigail's spirit. 
  • Abigail's spirit gets stronger over time but starts over if she is destroyed.
  • Abigail's might is tied to Wendy's health, making her fight harder while Wendy is weak. 
  • Abigail's attack besets her opponents with ghostly petals for a short period of time, increasing its damage received from all other damage sources. Wendy is able to take advantage of this and will deal substantially more damage.
  • Abigail creates a shield after being hit, preventing her from taking subsequent damage for a short period of time.
  • Wendy can ask Abigail to stay close to her or roam more free via Abigail's flower.
  • Wendy does not lose sanity due to ghosts.
  • Pipspooks can now be found roaming around gravestones.
  • Wendy can commune with Pipspooks to help them find peace in exchange for Mourning Glory.
  • Wendy can use Mourning Glory in her Ectoherbology crafting tab to help her sister's spirit in various ways.
  • Wendy has reduced damage in combat, but suffers less sanity drain from auras and the dark.

Studio Note:

Just a quick note regarding the team at Klei Entertainment. As noted previously, everybody at Klei Entertainment is working from home due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

Many of us have been working especially hard to help maintain operations as we all move out of the office and into our homes and with everything being done online, extra time must be spent in organizing conversations and trying to maintain communication. As some of you may know, we have a very open office and we are almost always in contact with each other as we go about our days. Some of us work across multiple teams and that work has become a bit more challenging for everybody.  

That being said, at this time the transition has not caused any major disruption in our operations, but it would be overly optimistic to expect that we won't have any delays at all. We're going to have to be especially mindful about this in the coming weeks and make sure we don't take on too much work so we can keep things running smoothly. 

Likely, you won't see any real difference in what we deliver until after the next big update as we are already well underway with that and will be wrapping up the bulk of that work soon. But hopefully you won't see much change at all. We'll do our best and we'll let you know if/when we start seeing anything changing.

And Finally!

If everything goes according to plan we expect the next update to be toward the end of April with the next Return of Them Content update, "She Sells Seashells". Here's a bit of a teaser of what's to come. We'll have more info shortly before release!

Reason you main a certain character

For a while now, i've been wondering why certain people chooses certain character to play as or even what brought them to go to that character in the first place. Whether it is because of gameplay, character personnality, there appearance or for what ever other reasons, we all have our own little story of how we got to our main. This thread is for general discussion with others and to bring out the best of your dst experience and to show feedbacks to others that might still be in the look out to have a main character to play as. Below i'll show an example of what i would think would be proper to share your stories to not crowd up the whole thread. (simply put your stories in spoilers, normal discussion can be held outside of spoilers with no problem). Also i can't stress this enough but this thread is not for argumentation. Please stay comprehensive towards one another origin.

 

My ds\dst origins

So when i started playing Dont Starve, Reign of Giant wasn't even a thing. That was way back in 2015 if i'm not mistaken. At the time i was really noobish, would barely ever dream to go in the ruins and i was playing as Woodie. Being canadian myself, i was able to relate to alot of his quote and i just loved the fact of chopping wood so fast with an indestructible axe. Turning into a werebeaver seemed so funny to me and the werebeaver theme song is really entertaining. Though i would mostly only farm and stay in the same spot without ever trying to really accomplish anything in the game.

Then came Reign of Giant. When i heard that a character that had a food restriction and a fighting style that was coming along with RoG i wanted to know everything about them. That's when i started playing Wigfrid. I loved everything about her and she made me start to engage combat more and more. I started to learn to kite, learn that ennemies weren't that hard after all and that overcoming the new bosses was a really nice feeling. I played so much with Wigfrid that she gave me the necessary knowledge to attempt adventure mode. I managed to clear it in my 4th attempt and i was really pleased with what i had accomplished. 

Shipwreck followed not long after and i started  focusing to play as Warly, because of once again how he had a weird and unique hunger restriction compare to the rest of the cast. I had alot of fun with him and exploring the seas with his portable crockpot saved me more then once. 

I also had a Wendy phase, where i would go in lightsout world to try and survive in that game mode. The challenge being really fun, it got boring quickly because there wasn't alot of stuff that worked as it did on normal setting and i felt like i was missing on content. Though i do recommend to people to try out lightsout once one of these day.

During that time, i was also trying to unlock Wes because he was the last character i had to unlock and being the completionist that i am, i couldn't let that be. Took me weeks and weeks of trial and error in adventure mode to finally unlock him. I was so happy that i unlocked him that ever since then in DS i was only playing as the little mime. He wasn't that much of a change from Warly other then the fact that he punches less hard and have no audio cue. Though my Wes days in DS were really short because DST came along really fast after.

 

When DST started, a bit before "A new reign" i was primarly playing as Wigfrid. Her helmets are a really good mulitplayer perk in my opinion and the mob healt buff got me to think i also needed to deal more damage. I played in alot of different public server, and helping other was a thing that i really enjoyed to do with Wigfrid. Did my first  klaus fight ever as Wigfrid too and i'll never ever forgot that fight. The leeching power of wigfrid is also a very nice thing.

 

When "A new reign" fully got out i wanted to take on all of the bosses down. Sadly i didn't have much friends to play with so i resulted in switching to the almighty Wolfgang. Litteraly after playing a one year cycle as Wolfgang i got sick and tired of his playstyle. Killed every bosses in a flash, didn't have any real challlenge up and running for me and anything would just die instantly. Wolfgang is a really good character dont get me wrong but for me it wasn't challenging at all to play as him. 

 

Finally on a faithfull day, i got as a skin present Survivor Wes. When I saw the skin, I remembered the fun time i had with the lil buddy and i decided to give him a try in DST. Ever since i've been using the mime both in public server and in solo world, helping the ones that i can, building megabases and soloing bosses that i would have thought never possible to do so as Wes when i started DST. His damage reduction was a huge change from Wolfgang mightness and it really hit me hard. Though Wes made me realise that anything in this freacking game can be accomplish if you only put your mind and determination to it. 

 

Now i've been playing Wes mainly for the past 2 years-2 years and a half, and im really happy with what i have accomplish. The game is really difficult and the learning curve can be kind of weird. But once you get the rope of the game there is so much you can do! Though this is a really brief history of my DST experience, i did try out all the characters every now and then. This list is mostly the main characters that i played during my whole experience.

 

Why This Is My Main

-Wes is cute haha i just feel like he is a nice guy in general because of all the artwork we have on him. Even though he doesn't talk, he has a big heart.

-His hunger drain makes me lose less food. I always always produce to much food. I often say to my girlfriend that i could supply a full server of people and we would still be losing food to spoilage haha. Having to eat more gives me the opportunity to have less food turn to rot.

-His damage reduction makes most fight a bit longer wich i really appreciate because i like base building as much as fighting. I want both of them to be balance.  So i want to pass 50% of my time on both and thats what his damage reduction offers me. It gives me the opportunity to change my playstyle every other season.

-His pantomime are great. I love to just spam inspect objects around me like if i was having a seisure. The floating invisible bike animation is my personnal favorite.

-He has alot of nice skin in my opinion and i've been lucky enough to get the survivor and the shadow skins of him as drops. Couldn't ask for any better for the character you main eh?

Wx-78 rework idea

Since these threads keep on poping I figured i might as well make one of my own.

Here's the deal. You might like this rework as a whole or only consider few ideas good. Keep in mind the the idea of reworking characters is to make it so that no character is considered 'way better than the rest'. 

1. Is a machine- Klei loves hiding lots of perks behind a sentace like this so here it is:

-A special crafting tab for Wx. I think that every character having special crafting tabs is a very cool idea because it shows every character bringing a part of themselves into the Constant. What you can craft in this tab will be mentioned later in the post.

-Wx doesn't receive health from food immediately. Instead the healing effect occurs over time simmilar to Jellybeans. This would be a disadvantage when it comes to boss fights, it'd prevent the player from stuffing to Honey Hams and being at full hp. The idea behind is that Wx's chemical engine needs time before it can extract healing properties from food.

-Lighting charges you. Same as now

-Being wet damages you. Simillar to how it works now but the wetter you are the more damage you take

-Every 15-25 days Wx-78 'breaks down'. A special animation plays and a message appears. Wx would then suffer from one of many disadvantages. For example:

  • 'OPTICAL SENSORS FAILING'- your field of view is smaller simmilar to when Wagstaff wears protective googles in singleplayer
  • 'WALKING JOINTS RUSTED'- reduced movement speed
  • 'PROCCCCESSINGGGG Un1T FaIlYRE'- constant sanity drain

In order to stop these debuffs you'd need to craft a special item, y'know to replace the ones that are broken down. Yes, you'd craft them in that special crafting tab. Every item would have different crafting recipe but they'd all circle around items like gold, rocks, maybe gears. After fixing yourself maybe you'd receive a slight boost to whatever you've fixed

2. Not a picky eater-  This perk imo is good enough and doesn't need changing

3. Can upgrade themselves- Eating gears upgrades your stats. This is probably Wx's main advantage and also the reason why they're so op right now. I have an idea how to make that less op. Upgrades are shown differently on your stats, for example half of you health is a normal red heart and the second half is a mechanical heart. Same for brain and stomach. You now have your regular stats and the upgraded stats. The idea behind this is that these upgrades are not fully compatible with Wx-78 and they have to do things a bit differently to fill these stats.

Okay that might sound confusing so here's an example: You eat some meatballs, you fill your hunger only halfway through even tho it should be full. That's because you've filled your regular hunger. Hunger from the upgrades takes different food to fill up.  Same with sanity and health. As you upgrade yourself your regular stats slowly grow so that when you're fully upgrade you end up with 50% regular stats and 50% upgraded stats. 

Now, how exactly do you fill up those upgraded stats. For example in your crafting tab you'd be able to craft a special 'seasoning' which you can use on a food to make it fill up your upgraded hunger. A special hat which fills up your upgraded sanity. A special food which lets you heal up your upgraded health.

The general idea of this rework would be to still keep Wx-78 as a stats tank but for a price of maintaining yourself

Annoying popup

I've just tried switching to using an Eggs box controller, when ever I come across anything in the world, I get a really annoying popup that tells me the options I can make on the item, like "Inspect" & "Pick".  I'd really like to turn this off, as it's just annoying IMO, but I just can't find an option to do this.

This is just a survey of a subject I came to think of while reminiscing how I first found Don't Starve (which for those who are curious, was via the Yogscast on Youtube way back in 2012). 5 beekeeper hats, 30 pierogi, 1 Hambat, 5 spectral cure-all (4 maybe)

Pros: no arena preperation, easy crafts, less then a stack of healing food.

Cons: Active pipspook assisting (in order to get the recipes for 5 spectral cure-all), death of abigail in-battle can lead to failure.

 

Looks like the wendy abigail rework is quite op

heal yourself only if you can get killed by the bee queen in the next attack but make sure if she will call grumble bees in her next move so you dont die.

make sure abigail has the agro on the grumble bees. heal her at 300 health by applying the spectral all-cure on the flower or onto herself if she is next to you.

if the bee queen is screaming to boost the grumbles make sure you are attacking the bee queen and abigail being next to you at the same time.
