Current state of jellybeans

When jellybeans were first released, I thought they were too strong because they gave so much health over time for such a long time, the bee queen was much easier to kill and you get between 6 and 7 royal jelly, making that 18-21 jellybeans for each bee queen kill.

Right now though they give 2 health every 2 seconds for 2 minutes, making that 120 health total. The health over time barely helps and the total health is the same as 4 honey poultices or 6 healing salves, which are easier to make since they are not locked behind a boss kill (and I'd even argue she's the hardest boss right now).

This is what I propose: make jellybeans give as much health over time as they did at first (5 health every 2 seconds, if I remember correctly), but make the effect last only 1 minute, bringing the total health to 150 (which is close enough to the 120 total health we have right now). Not only that, the crock pot recipe for jellybeans could require only specific ingredients, making it more interesting and harder to make. For example, it could require 1 royal jelly + 1 cave banana + 1 pomegranate + 1 blue mushroom, giving an use to 2 "useless" items (bananas and pomegranate).

If you want players to go in caves, do this...

Yes, it's this argument again "Oh there shouldn't be freezing or overheating in caves blah blah". But on the last "Rhymes With Play" they mentioned that most players don't go into the caves, so it's worth bringing back up.

The reason that I personally don't go into the caves, is because it's so annoying to handle the caves with season effects. If you really want to explore the caves and have fun, you can only do it by wasting the good season of Autumn to do so (and nobody wants to do that). It's really annoying. If you want to explore them in Winter and Summer, you'll end up having to fill your inventory up with gear to survive caves AND gear to survive the temperatures of the seasons. Having to deal with constant sanity drop and lack of light, plus season effects is annoying. It's not challenging, it's just annoying.  

There's this argument that players will just hide out in the caves through the entirety of the difficult season. First off, I don't think that's true. If a player has a base and decent gear, they will stay in the surface because sanity is a lot easier to handle. Second, I don't really see the big problem with players hiding in caves during the seasons anyway. Isn't that natural? Humans taking shelter from weather. Plus, I hate summer, I hate it because it's sooo boring. There's nothing to do and it's not really enjoyable to explore because a) random fires. b) constant overheating. I'd love it if you could go into the caves and just forget about all that.

Plus, I think its a great a solution for the problem of players joining a server in a middle of a season and not having any kit to survive. They can jump in the caves and done, problem solved. That's much preferable than having someone running around with a torch in Winter, burning everything in sight for warmth. And it will certainly get people going into the caves.

It just seems like such an obvious solution to me.

2 Man/Woman/Robot/Spider Thing Dragonfly Strategy

Just today, a friend and I as Wilson and Woody in our day 160 world just managed to kill the Dragonfly for our first time in DST. I'm not here to brag, but rather to share the strategy we used in order for others to have the same success and joy that we did. Please don't patch this out...

 

This can be done with one person, but this is DST, so you'll likely have two people or more already. Character wise, you don't need any in particular although Wolfgang and Wicker are great for obvious reasons. The resources you'll require for the strategy aren't too expensive and if you're shooting for them could probably be gotten pretty early on in a world, as for the list, they're below.

 

6 Logsuits and Football Helmets (3 of each for the two of you, if you can get better armor, more power to you.)

6 Dark Swords (3 for each of you, but you could use 2 for each and a spear extra since after cracking 4 dark swords, she only has 200 left.)

Healing Supplies (My friend and I used 5 Healing Salves, 3 Trail Mix, and 4 Fishsticks for each of us, all pretty easy to get.)

A whole lot of Stone or better walls (80 will give you a whole lot of room to maneuver but you could probably do it with only 40.)

A Pan Flute (This one is real important. How you use it is details in the guide portion.)

Optional: A Walking Cane (Helps with the first step, you don't need it, but you really should have one anyways if you're going after Dragonfly.)

Optional: 2 Miner Hats (So you can continue the first part of the guide during the night.)

Optional: Campfire/Endothermic (In case of night and also temperatures during Winter/Summer.)

Optional: Snacks (Don't Starve!)

 

As for the battle, I've separated it into 3 phases to do in order for success.

 

Phase 1: As soon as you and your friend(s) get to Dragonfly's arena, have one person who preferably has a walking cane get dragonfly's aggro and lead her around in circles away from everyone else. While this is happening, everyone else should begin to construct a box in the middle of the arena made of stone walls. Leave one gap in the wall so whoever is being chased can come into the box as well.

Phase 2: Once the box has only one gap in, lead Dragonfly in and get your armor and dark swords out and begin swinging away. Watch your HP, and if it gets too low for comfort, eat either your trail mix / fish sticks / other good HP food. She should eventually get stunned and continue swinging for as long as you can, as soon as she flies off towards the pools, use your healing salves / honey poultice to get yourself healthy again as you can't use them while Dragonfly's attacking you, then go to phase 3.

Phase 3: Put a wall into that little gap so you're completely walled in. Once Dragonfly has spawned all her larvae, don't get too close to the walls or they'll hit you through them. (hence why you want a big box for the strategy.) Fight her like you did in phase 2, but keep an eye on the larvae. As soon as they all die, she'll become enraged and probably do her stomp attack, ruining the entire plan. There's a delay between the last larvae dying and her becoming enraged. During this time, use the pan flute to put her to sleep. This will stop her from getting enraged and give you an opportunity to heal up and get ready to continue attacking. Rinse and repeat until she's dead, and celebrate over your newfound rewards.

 

Anyhow, this may not be the best or most efficient Dragonfly strategy, but it's the simplest method my friend and I could think of that also required the least amount of resources total. As for the pan flute's durability, Dragonfly usually drops a green gem to help renew it. Best of luck out there against Dragonfly.

 

 

Wortox and the Fossils in DST

     Hope you don't mind the post from a completely random account, but I feel like I need to address this. Also as a side note, this is just pure speculation on seemingly related things.

 

     I get the feeling that the fossils found underground might be related to the unused character Wortox. The head and horns are sort of similar and it almost looks dog shaped, which matches the whole dog thing Wortox has going on. The strongest piece of evidence pointing to this is the fact that Kevin (allegedly, according to the wiki) has stated that, if a character were to be unlocked within the caves, it would be Wortox or something non-human. With all of this taken into account, it seems that Wortox could have some sort of relation to the fossils found in Don't Starve Together, unlockable character or not.

 

     This was just something that I thought of when I completed the Odd Skeleton, so don't take it too seriously. Any thoughts on the matter would be appreciated.

 

(Although, if this does end up being what I think it is, I'm claiming my rights to say that I called it.)

Add the new music to DS's soundtrack DLC?

Just a simple request, I'd love to get the Dragonfly, Bee Queen and Toadstool music in the soundtrack purchasable with DS. I listen to DS soundtracks while going to school all the time becuz I have no taste in music :c

I'm not saying the DS soundtrack is bad, I'm just saying I can't choose any other kind of music. :cc

Will DST have SW Content?

Hopefully SW content will be added to DST and will have a region pick like in DS when you are creating a new world. Also is this already being worked on?

Because if they are I will be glad to have SW multiplayer instead of being stranded alone on islands looking for resources. SW gets boring without multiplayer

The new update is coming out today from what I saw, since it says imminent, but so far the figure shown on the main menu is still not colored, and there are no previews this time compared to herd mentality.. What is going on? Are we going to get this update or is it just going to be like a big fix update, and the figure comes in a later update?

The new boss , Klaus, actually has two versions of the same theme:

The second theme is pretty fitting for the situation , especially after seeing Klaus cheat death with a life giving amulet.

Myself and Jamie are going to do a crowd-sourced-sound-off live next week. We are going to take sounds from your world and make them into something during next week’ Rhymes with Play Audio Stream. It could be a creature, it could be a machine, it could be an ambiance, or maybe a whole 'nother world. 

Do you have something or someone in your house that makes a strange sound? Does your dog snore really loudly? Does your bathroom door creak oddly? Can you do a strange sounding party trick? Record it with whatever you have available, export it as an MP3/WAV/AIFF and send the file to us.

Lack of communication and information on new content releases (@skins&updates)

Hello,

I would like to express my dissatisfaction with the way Klei handles the information and the amount of it when releasing new content and would like to use the last Winter Theme update thread as a flag on why I decided to open this topic.

I started feeling that Klei might have an impartial view of how much information they release as update logs right about the time when the skin system got in. Slowly with every update we got fewer and fewer bullet points about the new content which was fine for awhile, but slowly it turned to not mentioning any of the new skin items inserted into the game files at all. I remember posting my irritation about this only to be dunked by certain users whose opinion, which I respect, was that they preferred to discover the new items and content on their own during their playthrough. But not everybody thinks like that, and I am one of those people.

A New Reign updates started being announced, with nice posters like the way Klei used to have for beta Don't Starve singleplayer, and I loved this. The points with the new content for every patch thread are wonderful, the mentions of new skin items and certain was still lacking. Lucky for us that there are users who sneak around the files to get the tidbits of new information.

But I don't have the time to wait for those users who post the new findings, do not want to feel like I need to read dozens of pages of new posts to find their findings, reason for which I want to make my desire known: I would like for every update thread to be not necessarily detailed but more precise. I work and have chores to do, and when I do visit the forum and see an update thread I feel it useful to have new stuff included and centralized in the update post. I don't expect detailed content, only short points about new stuff (which already happens), new cloth items included.

As an example I feel the Hallowed Nights were handled quite good on announcement. This was really good actually, I knew from reading the announcement that there are going to be new treats, new limited available skins and skins that will be available all year long but only drop during the event.

The Winter Feast thread update is just completely lackluster on the new content. What was the reason for that? Why couldn't it have some basic information about the event? I had to scroll through a lot of pages to find someone posting the new stuff in spoilers, stuff which needed a lot of digging in the game files. It seems there are skins, but are they limited to the event? Is the Krampus boss limited only to the event? Does it drop loot from all the giants? Why is it hard to mention all these like it was in the Halloween thread? I need to know some basic information so I can plan for the playthrough I am going to have these holidays.

For real now, this is common sense and just useful to be informed about. Don't let me hanging, so far the latest updates have been managing to provide good short bullet points, don't stop doing so for an event such as Christmas, or for any of the future update threads.

I don't even want to play at the moment because I don't know if I should skip krampus boss this winter and do something else or if I should go in turbo mode and make sure to kill it every winter during the event for any unique loot it might have. Not to mention that the skins found by users in the game files aren't even dropping it seems? Is it not possible to just include an update line in the update "Ten new item skins are now available as drops"?

This is a little frustrating, Klei. It adds up to a sensation of a slight turn off towards the game and towards, well, Klei, in the end.  Yet I believe this can be easily avoided with a little bit more transparency and openness about the new game content during patches and updates.

Hey guys, a little help needed. So here is the thing: When I host a server without caves everything is normal, except the ping for all the other players gets worse and worse until the game is unplayable. If I host a server with caves, the ping is fantastic but I am then missing some sounds like: beefalos, koalefants, and some other ones. I have no idea how to fix it, and any help will be appreciated!

I wanted a mod that changes telltale heart recipe to play with friends. I found one (Customizable Telltale Heart) but it turned out that it works only for the host. So i downloaded other mod which changes some recipes and works for clients too (Kindling Fire) and changed telltale heart recipe the same way other changes in this mod work. Still didnt work for clients. Only way i can see to change it is editing game files.

So here is my question: Is it ok to change game files and use it on server with friends only? Will I be banned if I do that? Recipe i want to have is strictly harder and I WON'T play on other servers than mine or my friends with edited files

Functions for pets

The pets is something very cool that came to Don ' t Starve Together, But over time people have ceased to have them,, on the grounds that disturb, cepGxXs.gifirritate and have no utility.
It would be good utility that the Klei given some function for them, such as:

  • Glomglom = As he is a puppy the Glommer, he could give half the aura of sanity (more or less + 3.12 per minute), only to the owner of the Pet.
  • Kittykit = He could help the player to fish, and as the Catcoon, from time to time cospir some items randomly.
  • Vargling = the beautiful Hound pup would be very useful to help find footprints of Koalafant/Ewecus/Varg, but it's very little, so a little aura of +2 sanity per minute would be enough
  • Ewelet = the puppy the flu would be of good use, if we could shear him from time to time.
  • Broodling: a loyal mate, your heart burns made fire, and this characteristic to be a being of fire, he could have a little aura of light or power to cook(carrots, berrys ...)

And to not stay op, they would only perform the function if well fed
