pc has wurt and hallowed nights, ps4 has wurt and hallowed nights, x box has neither and there is no reason. you can't say console problems because ps4 has the update. maybe you could say that there might be problems with specifically Microsoft but it shouldn't take that long to resolve. maybe i'm an idiot and there is a good reason for this, maybe it's just a bug, but no matter what i wan't answers.

DST Skins Checklist (Updated: 09/26/2019)

$
0
0

The DST Skins Checklist has been designed to help you more easily keep track of your DST skins collection.  This can be done by manually checking off items or by directly syncing the checklist with your inventory on Steam.

The layout is fairly rustic, but it lets you view, filter, and search the skins you own, have duplicates of, or are missing in the game.  All save data is stored locally on your computer (in your browser's Local Storage).

The checklist is a single HTML file (images are all embedded) and can be used online or from your desktop:

For best compatibility, open the file using Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox; some features may not function properly in other browsers.

Original First Post:

Spoiler

I originally made this for my friends and I to keep track of our skins collection, but I thought I'd also share it here.  The layout is fairly rustic, however, it does its job.

The checklist lets you save & filter items based on collection, character, color, rarity, and whether you own an item or not.  I've also included links to each skin's Steam page.

You can view the code, download, or preview the checklist here:

To use, save the HTML file to your computer and open it with your browser.  Alternatively, you can use the live preview link above, but Google Drive is discontinuing HTML web hosting at the end of August; so, the preview will cease to work after then.

The skin images are embedded (via base64 encoding) into the HTML file, so the file size is ~1.25MB.  Saving uses the Local Storage of your browser, so your save will be lost if you clear your browser's cache and/or site data.  Javascript also needs to be enabled to use the interactive features.

Here are a few screenshots of what Version 1.0 looks like:

Hope it's useful for the skin collectors out there.

I have gathered all the trinkets and candies but they don't look pretty just stashed on the ground. In Hamlet there are the display shelves, is there something like that in DST? Including mods.

Thanks and happy Halloweening!

Animals in DST + Potential Character Idea

$
0
0

I enjoy DST a lot, and my favourite features of the games are by far the animals. From Koelaphants, to Geckos, Catcoons, Beefalo, and my personal favourite Tallbirds, I adore DST's animal designs. I always make a point in every world to attempt to make a zoo or "befriend" as many animals as I can, herding and bringing them to my base.

While many of the animals have subtle dual functions, either as a food source + drops or generating poop, protection, and in some cases other harvestable resources (Beef wool), very few animals actually have any true benefit when alive that justifies keeping them around, let alone keep them alive for extended periods of time. The Beefalo may be an exception with domestication, but many people never attempt to domesticate Beefalo due to the difficulty of maintaining them. Beefs do make traveling faster and are useful in battle, but by the time someone would consider domesticating a Beefalo, most of the map would already be explored and you would have decent armour and weapons most of the time. Most people I have known who domesticate Beefalos on a semi-regular basis do so from the mere pleasure of having an earned pet they can take care of and love, not to use as meat sheilds in battle (some use it for the speed boost exclusively but very few).

I'm not sure if this is just my social group or if this is true for others, but it's extremely apparent to me and how I play that ranching or being friendly towards the beasts of the DST world is not really rewarded. You're rewarded for using or "exploiting" animals, for the lack of a better word, (taking gecko tails, shaving Beefalo in the winter, stealing penguin and Tallbirds eggs, using animals to kill enemies regardless of whether they die) but you do not get any significant reward for caring for animals, especially long term. Sure, Koelaphants give manure, but does 1-2 manure piles a day really beat out the benefits of a ton of meat and a trunk, especially when there are other, better sources of manure? Is spending meat to befriend a catcoon really worth that single bone shard it gives you as a gift?

The point is, there's two main ways to interact with animals effectively in DST: You kill them, or you leave them alone. For an animal lover like me, I think the game could benefit from a third option: ranching.

I think a new character who's main benefits revolve around animals may add additional ways to survive in DST. The main survival methods in DST currently is to kill everything in sight for meat and drops or leave everything alone and survive on berries. But what if a rancher was able to harness the natural beauty of these DST beasts? Instead of killing Koelaphants for meat and trunks immediately, a rancher is able to create the right conditions for Koelaphants to breed and create more over an extended period of time, creating more food? What if a rancher was able to milk Beefalo, giving people more reason to keep them around rather than slaughter the entire herd? What if ranchers were able to extend relationships with pigs and Catcoons they befriend without the need of food, giving some benefits to keeping them rather than simply farming them?

I'm not much of a programmer and I'm not good at balancing skills, hence why I haven't come up with a character and stats, but I think animals have a lot of potential in DST. I want more things to do with animals rather than killing them, and I think that can be achieved without breaking the game. I am aware there are mods out there to have Koelaphants breed and to milk Beefalo and things, but they are mods and I don't feel rewarded with many of their mechanics, especially the Koelaphants mod since they breed automatically and with no assistance.

To make sure I'm clear, I'm not bashing people who don't care about the animals and do want to kill them all. That is one way to play the game and it's easily the most effective way to interact with many of them. I simply want an alternative for those softies like me who want to be the animal tamer they've always wanted to be.

What do you all think?

Tl; Dr

The best way to interact with animals is by killing them, so a new character could be implemented to give an alternative way to interacting with animals: ranching. This allows animal lovers and animal harvesters alike to do what they love.

Just curious which skins you all like. I’m a little sad that Woodie didn’t get a skin (Wolfman skin would be amazing), but the new skins look pretty great!

If I had to pick favorites, they’d probably be Wickerbottom, followed up by Maxwell. I’m not a huge a fan of Wortox’s, since it looks fairly close to his base skin, but MAN does Wickerbottom look cool. She looks like she should be living in a creepy old cottage in the woods, brewing away in her cauldron.

All you need to know about Wurt and Merm update

Hi everyone. Do you need a complete "guide" about Wurt ? You don't ? You should, there is some stuff you might have not noticed yet and I encourage you to find out with this post, I'll be also talking about the Merms and the Merm King of course, let's get into it.

We better start with the stats. She have a pretty decent increased hunger, but a lower sanity than classic survivors !

Wurt's Pros :

fancy_banner_dark.png.931716712d1abc6b9120b4bd5eb326c6.png

  • At home in the Swamp
    • This perk is not related to the swamp directly but from the Marsh Turf ! While Wurt is on a Marsh Turf, she will have a passive speed boost that is the same as the Cobblestone Turfs or roads.
    • She also have the ability to localise Tentacles underground more efficiently that other survivors :
    • As a ghost Wurt will not be able to predict Tentacle positions

0.thumb.jpg.64b1a9ce91f512e909fc8dffb12e6fc2.jpg

A particle circle will spawn around them while underground                    (From 3.5 tiles away)

  • Has big plans for Merm-kind
    • Wurt have 5 unique recipes that make Merm Houses renewable and improve them :

A Merm House with a different look and small changes :

Only a single Merm can stay inside but they will respawn twice faster.

Like the 2 other following recipes, they can only be placed on Marsh Tiles.

Placing it sounds easy but it will not be finished yet, you have to build it the same way as the Celestial Portal :

Once you have gathered the resources and upgraded it, you will have a Royal Tapestry on the floor, you should place it near to a Merm so it can sit on it :

Once it is on the Royal Tapestry, feed the Merm some food (50 points) to obtain the Merm King.

The Merm King will fully regenerate on spawn and upgrade all Wurt Players with 50 points in each stats (200 Health / 250 Hunger / 200 Sanity) on the world it is located, so you need two of them if you want to keep the upgrade in caves as well.

You can know if Wurt and Merm Guards are upgraded by the Merm King power since they have a new appearance with War paints :

Introducing, Klei Rewards

We are introducing a system that will allow players to collect "points" on their accounts by doing various things like subscribing to our Youtube or following us on Twitter and then use those points to get items. Currently we will be using this to distribute our out of cycle Twitch items rather than selling them as we had previously suggested. This allows players to get what they missed before or just get them without going through Twitch.

The first version of this can be found on our accounts page here: https://accounts.klei.com/account/rewards

In the future we will update the rewards program with new ways to earn more points and pick up cool rewards they may have missed, or even possibly entirely new stuff. Let us know what you think!

Question about the hidden Costume Skins perk

A few years ago, it was discovered that you gain more candy from the Pig King if you're wearing the limited Event Costume while doing trading with him.

So I was just wondering...
- Is this perk was still active?
- If so, does it work with the current Elegant versions of the Costumes and Hallowed Nights sets and/or the Catcoon, Chester, Glommer, and Hutch disguises?

Lots of problems with Wurt

$

- Merms do not protect Wurt. They will only become aggravated if a fellow AI merm gets attacked, which makes no sense and makes it extremely difficult to weaponize merms without recruiting them.

- Merms don't even aggravate onto certain monsters despite them being both obvious dangers, or are encroaching on their territory.

- Reentering the server or changing shards while the merm king is alive will refill all Wurt's stats.

- The merm King never sleeps, even during times when merms normally do. Merms from structures Wurt builds also don't obey merm sleep cycles either.

- There's no way to tell how hungry the merm king currently is.

- Multiple hats hover above the cut off point on Wurt's head, if Wurt is wearing a top her sleeves disappear when she performs her unique idle animation.

- Wurt's quote when entering shade makes reference to there being rain, despite the fact that you can enter shade when it's not raining. Wurt's quotes for gaining wetness also contradict the fact that she suffers from wetness the same as every other character.

- Nearby merms will run to eat seaweed the merm king drops when given an offering, so it's a frantic rush to get the drops you paid for since you need to have at least one merm nearby to spawn the king in to begin with.

- When Wurt recruits a merm they will constantly alternate between wandering back towards their house, and then running up to Wurt to stay close.

- Wurt's danger sense for tentacles isn't visible during the winter, since the graphic is white and snow is white.

This update feels very rushed. Especially considering how obvious a lot of these issues are, or how many missing elements there are to the new merms behaviour in general.

Every problem I've had with Wurt so far

First I want to clarify, I love this character. She's cute, and has a lot of potential. However there are a lot of minor things that hold her back. This is a list of all the problems I have had with Wurt, in hopes that Klei fixes some of these. So naturally this might be a little opinionated. Also this includes some bugs that I may have also found, so some of these things may not apply in the later future.

Perks: Wurt overall has pretty good perks. Even though I am not that big of a fan of being vegetarian as it is more of an annoyance than an actual threat, it's fine. My actual problem here lies in with the near useless abilities that she has. Things that include: having a strong grip, being able to spot tentacles, having a pet fish in her inventory to gain sanity, reading books for sanity. Even though some of these (such as reading a book) is cute and adds to a character, it effects the game play, making it so that if a Wurt does decide to read a book, it uses durability. Maybe this feature could be removed, but I think it would be cooler if it was an idle animation. Overall, my problem with the perks isn't that problematic, I would much rather have more interesting and bigger upsides and downsides instead of very minor but plentiful ones.

Merm Villages: As a concept, I don't think this is all bad, especially with the addition of Warly, who has some recipes that require fish and frog legs. In terms of food, I still think bunnies would be better, especially as a vegetarian, but I can see the use of having merms. The merm king is amazingly done, he's just extremely well done from a design point, and honestly looks like he came straight out of JoJo's bizarre adventure or something. My only gripe with him is that you have to babysit him or else you lose the buff you get from him, and there is also a glitch right now where every time you gain or lose that buff, whether if its from him dying, or if you enter the caves, your stats get reset back to full. As for the merm houses, they're a bit ugly, but other than that it's fine. The merm guards are extremely annoying, and that's not even for the tentacle spots and boards, since you can give fish to the merm king to have a chance of getting tentacle spots. You have to carry 2 spears on you to craft a single house, which is extremely annoying. Their AI isn't the smartest either, you would expect them to kill pretty much anything except Wurt, other merms, and the merm king on sight, but they only attack if provoked for some reason. I'd be fine with this if it was applied to merms, but not so much the merm guards.

Other: Wurt can't trade with the pig king at all. I don't know why they did this, Webber and Wortox can do this perfectly, so why not Wurt? This means quite a few things, that frog legs are near useless to Wurt (assuming they are by themselves), as the player can't eat them, trade them, befriend animals with them, or anything. The most she could do with them is just let them rot and use that for crafting marsh turf, but that doesn't really excuse how half the drops you get from farming merms, one of Wurt's main purposes, can only be used in a way that is worse than things like lichen or lightbulbs. Speaking of the fact that you can't trade with the pig king, this means that Wurt cannot go trick or treating, which was honestly the whole reason I wrote this whole thing.

Like I said, these are all pretty minor inconveniences, but I'd like these to be changed. And knowing that there is almost always an update/updates after a character gets released fixing small inconveniences, these are some of the things that I'd like to see in it.

trade inn

Hi.

So, i used the trade inn system to change 9 commons skins and i got a spiffy sleeveless blouse. I thought that the trade inn system just allowed you to change 9 skins into one skin of the level above (so, in this case, it should be classy). Does the rules changed ? Or maybe my thoughts were fake news.
