I'm very curious how Wurt's players will be handle with feed. Having the vegetarianism as restriction will surely be a great challenge. By far the base feed in the Early Game are meat-based foods. Example: Meatballs, Meaty Stew, Bacon And Eggs, Pierogi, Honey Ham, Honey Nuggets....
I made a relation of the dishes of the crock pot that do not carry meats as an ingredient, besides values and difficulties to make a certain recipe. Which one do you think will be more viable for Wurt to handle in early game?

I was wondering what Wurts „title“ (um yes that’s what I am gonna call it) will be. What do you guys think it could be. Wurt the ...wet? I got nothing.
Hi everyone, today's a great day for all your amazing suggestions you have to offer to the Don't Starve Together community !
Cause we're opening a project that will sure please you :
Uncompromising Mode - https://discord.gg/UF7FKpn
What is this all about ?
- Uncompromising Mode will be a bit more than a simple mod collab, since everyone can be part of it. (Also started by Canis and me)
- You can see most of the informations on the server at the #where_am_i channel, but here is what you need to know :
- The mod will be updated monthly (or so, once again) depending of the quantity and kind of submitted ideas, every features can be enabled/disabled from configurations : This have to be a uncompromising experience.
What kind of content ?
Just like before, #where_am_i channel is your friend ! But we're looking for everything, mostly what can make the game entertaining for a longer time and fix what the game is lacking on, so if it is mobs, biomes, events, minigames, bosses, equipements, ressources, weathers, effects, game modes...
anything, go for it !
The only avoided stuff is characters and tweaking what already exist in statistics, since there is mostly all what you can looks for on the workshop.
Talking about Workshop ...
We're not only a space for discussing over your ideas but we also offer you dedicated space (channel) for your creations if you are a modder or an artist.
It can helps you advertising your content, and ask for commissions, this is your place, do what you want, as long it's Don't Starve related and in #rules.
Also, we'll open a dedicated server running the U.M after the mod release this month (hopefully), you will have all the informations of the server on the Discord.
Can I help ?
Yeees ! Modders, artists, animators, or anything that sounds useful to you can join the team, we don't ask you to do the stuff we're adding unless you want to help on your free time. Your contribution is always appreciated.
Is there a meme channel ?
Come and see : https://discord.gg/UF7FKpn
We're looking for you to improve the game experience, anything hardcore or more fun can be toggled depending of what you're looking for !
Hello, happy October to all! I'm personally very excited for the introduction of Wurt and for Hallowed Nights to return. What skins would you all like to see for the rest of the cast? (Or however many skins we get this year!)
I would love to see the return of that old Woodie Werewolf skin concept from 2016(?) along with Samurai Wigfrid, and maybe even younger wickerbottom, for the fun of it!

Okay, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post about this...
I've been thinking about this character since last week, and I put a lot of thought behind it, wrote down a short story of how this character came to be playable, his abilities and weaknesses and even made some doodles about his appearance (With the lovely help of a terrific artist I know)
So here we go:
Darkness covers the constant, in the distance, a line of light begins to appear. A creature lurking underground captures a glimpse of something shinning. A green light and an eerie aura, almost hidden by rotten vines and dead leaves. "What is that? It looks... appetizing..." With little effort a bulge of earth starts moving towards it and in a quick swoop the shiny thing is no more. The first breath of the sun stings, eyes meant for darkness are covered by claws. "Belly is full now, time to sleep".
Short story about a Moleworm who was able to eat Wormwood's lunar gem giving it some human aspects and an ability to think and talk. Moon power?
His name is Wolly and he's a Moleworm so "Wolly the Molly"
I thought about a challenging character mainly used for night exploration and spelunking. Not too powerful but fun to play anyway.
His main focus at the start of the game is gathering 12 grass for a grass hat instead of a torch.
Stats
Vision
Wolly can see perfectly in the dark but have trouble with his vision during the day. (Just like a moleworm hat)
- Loses sanity during the day, no sanity lost during the night.
Abilities
- Uses his claws to mine/dig moleworm holes only. (Can't dig up bushes or tree trunks)
- Faster movement speed inside the caves. (Excels in cave exploration)
- Eats minerals for sanity, Stones +1, Gold +2, Blue/Red Gems +5, Other colored Gems +15. (A full stack of stones or gold recovers 40 sanity)
Weaknesses
- Hats/Helmets covers his eyes completely. Charlie can still damage him during the night if he's wearing a hat. (Moleworm/Miner hats functions normally on him.)
- Mainly vegetarian (Food only fills his hunger and health), all meat meals work like a monster meat on him, causing him to lose sanity (Since Wurt is going to be added I had to change my idea of him being a full vegetarian, I thought about this prior to Wurt being announced)
- Clumsy, 5-10% chance to drop tools when being used (Due to his big claws he has trouble handling human tools)
- Hated by Catcoons (Just a fun addition)
Doodles/Appearance
I'm not a good artist so bear with me, tried to fit him into the dst overall look as best as I could.
Final Look and Color
Hope you nice people enjoy it as much as I did thinking about it!
So well... in recent months some changes have made and Warly, Wormwood were added to DST.
Part of their ability requires the "bone shards," where all the problem begins. Single DS has several stable, reasonable ways to obtain bone shards: through hunting fugalisk and break down its bones, in Hamlet, and hammering spoiled dogfish/swordfish corpse, in Shipwrecked. even though bone shards are not renewable in DS RoG, this is not a problem because you can bring more bone shards from other DLC worlds and doesn't require that much shards after making a few important clothes.
But DST doesn't have any other way to get more bone shards. The only way to obtain bone shards is repeat self-killing and reviving, which is inefficient and against the basic rule of this game : surviving. This hadn't been a big problem until Warly and Woormwood arrived. But their ability, bramble husk and Bone bouillon(Armor and food - which accompany constant demand for its materials), require a lot of bone shards in order to use them well. You should kill yourself repeatedly to get the ingredients of items which were intended to protect you from enemies or starving. I hope there will be new ways to get more bone shards not from player corpse added in the future.
Hi. Changes were made to the music in the game for the season of Autumn. This is my feedback on it. Because this is music and I'm bad at this type of stuff, I'll do my best to explain why, even if it sounds like a baby babbling, particularly at me trying to identify instruments.
If I make a mistake anywhere or missed something, please let me know. I'll might also include some artificial gameplay as well to see the difference in actions, but that may take some time and will depend on my mood. I might include timestamps for the music too, but that's also more work.
I'll start with what I like and then what I think could use some improvements. I guess @dansorce is the person of interest for this too? Keep in mind that I'm listening to the music and comparing them while writing this as well.
The Fighting/Danger music:
This music plays when you are fighting normal mobs (aka not boss mobs like Bearger or the Shadow Pieces, which have their own music).
Feedback: I have zero issues with it. In fact, I like it a lot more than the old one. It sounds like I'm fighting in the season of Autumn. Nothing too intense, it's just string instruments that sound like Autumn and I'm fighting something.
Same level of intensity as before (you're in danger/fighting) and the more "intense" parts of it has some flutes playing instead of the drum cymbals from before, which still keeps it rather calm/not super intense. Again, zero issues.
Now for the music that I think needs improvement.
The Busy/Working Music:
This music is played during Autumn on the surface when you're chopping trees, mining stuff, digging stuff, and what I would consider to be very important, crafting stuff.
Feedback: I really am not a fan of this new music and I'll try my best to explain as best as possible.
Autumn itself is a cool, chill, and relaxing season to play. Under the old theme, the music was rather slow-paced, it was somewhat subtle, and the choice of instruments makes it rather calm and relaxing (I hear some calm wind instruments, some calm string instruments, a trumphet-like sound here and there, and I think a xylephone?).
It felt like I was frolicking/being busy in the wild in the season of Autumn. Chop a tree/mining something? Rather chill. Make a few boards? Also rather relaxing.
Now, with this new work music, it just sounds so I N T E N S E. In fact, I feel that it's more intense than the new fight music and makes it feel like I'm in danger instead. It also doesn't make me feel relaxed anymore cause of fast paced it is.
Go to chop some trees? I'm working like there's no tomorrow. Mine some rocks? Mine like no tomorrow. Refining some stuff, like rope or boards? I gotta refine a million boards to match the intensity of the work music. Need to work hard, faster, and as efficiently as possible, like I'm working in a workshop or in a city.
It would fit perfectly for Hamlet when you're in town being busy, but not in DST for Autumn work, where I think the calm, relaxing busy music suited it best :'(
I also think the instrument choice is playing a role too. The sounds overall sound so much "heavier" too. It's like hard bells being hit, very deep string instruments, deep xylephones/piano sounds. It's not like the instrument choice from before where everything was lighter in tune and intensity that made me feel like I was frolicking/relaxing.
Oh, and at the timestamp here, the music gets super intense, like something dark and brooding is occurring, even though I'm just making some boards.
And yea, that's my best way at trying to explain it. This was harder to explain cause I'm listening to the music side-by-side while writing this and I'm not good with this type of stuff, so I can only really get the emotions across unlike Lua where I can say line XYZ is the issue. I'll try to provide time stamps/improve upon this post, but I make no promises.
You also mentioned sailing music? I didn't hear anything different from the above music, though I could have missed it or its in the RoT beta. I need to play around with it.
Simple quick question!
Can you put hats on merms?
And if not will you be able to as Wurt?
Assuming that Wurt being vegetarian means she cannot consume meat or meat based foods (instead of for example losing sanity when eating such foods) a change in play style would be needed for those meatballs fans. Here are some valuable information:
Crock Pot
As of today there are 29 out of 50 crock pot dishes that are considered non-meat in game, and most of them accept cheap and abundant inedible ingredients like Twigs
See the list here:
Every fruit and veggie and egg in the below recipes can be replaced with its cooked counterpart
Sorted from the highest to lower hunger stat
Fruits
Veggies
Eggs and Meats
Dairy and Sweeteners
Other
There are many other edible items, but since they not necessarily fit into above categories I will list them here.
I enjoy DST a lot, and my favourite features of the games are by far the animals. From Koelaphants, to Geckos, Catcoons, Beefalo, and my personal favourite Tallbirds, I adore DST's animal designs. I always make a point in every world to attempt to make a zoo or "befriend" as many animals as I can, herding and bringing them to my base.
While many of the animals have subtle dual functions, either as a food source + drops or generating poop, protection, and in some cases other harvestable resources (Beef wool), very few animals actually have any true benefit when alive that justifies keeping them around, let alone keep them alive for extended periods of time. The Beefalo may be an exception with domestication, but many people never attempt to domesticate Beefalo due to the difficulty of maintaining them. Beefs do make traveling faster and are useful in battle, but by the time someone would consider domesticating a Beefalo, most of the map would already be explored and you would have decent armour and weapons most of the time. Most people I have known who domesticate Beefalos on a semi-regular basis do so from the mere pleasure of having an earned pet they can take care of and love, not to use as meat sheilds in battle (some use it for the speed boost exclusively but very few).
I'm not sure if this is just my social group or if this is true for others, but it's extremely apparent to me and how I play that ranching or being friendly towards the beasts of the DST world is not really rewarded. You're rewarded for using or "exploiting" animals, for the lack of a better word, (taking gecko tails, shaving Beefalo in the winter, stealing penguin and Tallbirds eggs, using animals to kill enemies regardless of whether they die) but you do not get any significant reward for caring for animals, especially long term. Sure, Koelaphants give manure, but does 1-2 manure piles a day really beat out the benefits of a ton of meat and a trunk, especially when there are other, better sources of manure? Is spending meat to befriend a catcoon really worth that single bone shard it gives you as a gift?
The point is, there's two main ways to interact with animals effectively in DST: You kill them, or you leave them alone. For an animal lover like me, I think the game could benefit from a third option: ranching.
I think a new character who's main benefits revolve around animals may add additional ways to survive in DST. The main survival methods in DST currently is to kill everything in sight for meat and drops or leave everything alone and survive on berries. But what if a rancher was able to harness the natural beauty of these DST beasts? Instead of killing Koelaphants for meat and trunks immediately, a rancher is able to create the right conditions for Koelaphants to breed and create more over an extended period of time, creating more food? What if a rancher was able to milk Beefalo, giving people more reason to keep them around rather than slaughter the entire herd? What if ranchers were able to extend relationships with pigs and Catcoons they befriend without the need of food, giving some benefits to keeping them rather than simply farming them?
I'm not much of a programmer and I'm not good at balancing skills, hence why I haven't come up with a character and stats, but I think animals have a lot of potential in DST. I want more things to do with animals rather than killing them, and I think that can be achieved without breaking the game. I am aware there are mods out there to have Koelaphants breed and to milk Beefalo and things, but they are mods and I don't feel rewarded with many of their mechanics, especially the Koelaphants mod since they breed automatically and with no assistance.
To make sure I'm clear, I'm not bashing people who don't care about the animals and do want to kill them all. That is one way to play the game and it's easily the most effective way to interact with many of them. I simply want an alternative for those softies like me who want to be the animal tamer they've always wanted to be.
What do you all think?
Tl; Dr
The best way to interact with animals is by killing them, so a new character could be implemented to give an alternative way to interacting with animals: ranching. This allows animal lovers and animal harvesters alike to do what they love.
Probably everybody already saw this connection but im gonna talk about it anyway. So 1st twich drop where it started was ice flingomatic reskin, we got it near Winona character update becouse Winona likes to build constructions and stuff. 2nd was thermal stone skin wich was near the Willow update becouse fire. Next was icebox for Warly update becouse Warly is a chef and icebox is for food. Then we got nothing for Wormwood but he was beetween icebox and star callers staff and everyone knows he has connection to both food and moon. Next was Woodie with star and moon callers staff becouse he changes during full moon. And next we will probably get eyebrella skin for Wurt becouse she has connection to rain and stuff. So thats all, tell me what you think.
Looking for something to put your survival skills to the test, rather than just your building talents or boss memorizations? Maybe you've finished exploring all of the added content? Maybe you're playing alone and want to push your own limits, or else you want to see who's the best survivalist of a group? If any of this sounds familiar, here's the game mode for you!
To begin, you'll need to configure (Host) a new world with the following settings (tl;dr: most settings set to Less):
Quote
- Forest:
- Flowers, Evil Flowers: Less
- Grass: Less
- Saplings: Less
- Tumbleweeds: Less
- Flint: Less
- Boulders: Less
- Mini Glaciers: Less
- Berry Bushes: Less
- Carrots: None
- Mushrooms: Less
- Cacti: Less
- Rabbits: Less
- Moles: None (exploitable)
- Butterflies: None (exploitable)
- Birds: Less
- Gobblers: Less
- Pigs: Less
- Volt Goats: Less
- Beefalos: Less
- Hunt Surprises: More
- Pengulls: Less
- Ponds: Less
- Bees: Less
- Tallbirds: Less
- Spiders: Less
- Tentacles: More
- Lureplants: Less
- Bearger: More
- Deerclops: More
- Dragonfly: More
- Caves (all the above, in addition to these):
- Touch Stones: Less
- Failed Survivors: Less
- Trees (All): Less
Mods required (and their configs):
Quote
- No Ice As Filler - No more (nearly) free winter meatballs.
- Recipe Rebalancer (or else if you prefer, Recipe Balancer Overhaul) - Tweaks crockpot recipe values, in particular nerfs meatballs. Fishsticks and Pierogis have reduced healing, also.
- Survivalism - Assorted difficulty tweaks. You'll need to modify the config to enable these two settings:
- Fatigue: true - When certain stats are below 20% speed will become sluggish.
- Wet Rolls: true - Straw and fur rolls can't be used when water-logged/wet.
- Working Body Heat - Despite the name, you'll want to modify its behavior with this tweak (hunger only; the default):
- Heat/hit: Negligible - No longer gives heat for doing work.
- Disable World Regrowth - Similar to RoG/SW/Ham, world growths are not automatically renewable, and some sense is needed to not totally expend local resources.
Optional (flavor) mods; use at your discretion:
Quote
- Scaling Boss Difficulty - Adjusts bosses, either to be harder or else less annoyingly tedious to kill (your preference).
- Recommended: Reduce each value by 1 or 2 button clicks, unless you're playing this with lots of people who know what they're doing.
- Show Me (Origin) - Displays stats on monsters, foods, tools, etc. Recommend these settings tweaks (feel free to add your own):
- Food Style: Short
- Show Food Units: Yes
- Better blood-over - Shows a bloody overlay if you're low on health.
- Smarter Crock Pot - Takes all the magic and wonder out of blinding throwing away ingredients guessing at recipes without a wiki, an open spreadsheet, or else a million hours to expend at trial and error.
- Wormhole Icons [Fixed] - Labels matched wormhole sets by color. There may be other (better) mods for this function, but I haven't researched them fully.
Brutal Mode
Does this still seem too soft? The following settings tweak will force you to plunge into the deep dark earth to fight cave spiders for your silk. No cheap and easy spider nest grinding to your heart's content. Note: Webber may negate this; recommend avoiding him, or else just his spider nests.
QuoteForest and Caves:
- Spiders: None
If you have any mod or settings suggestions, please post them.
Since this update chain is called 'Return of Them' it's expected of Klei to give us some lore about Them
So I have been wondering, what makes people play as the character that they main?
For example, I like to play as Willow because I like the feeling of having a 2000 health bodyguard following me around, and it's fun to be able to drop Ashley and have her take care of any monsters.
So what do you find fun or why do you play as the character(s) you play.
(Im only really talking about actual characters, no modded characters, also please don't just say "cause it's part of the meta")
Hi forum,
I apologize for asking this question that seems to be asked many times. I've seen the response from JoeW on 25 Feb 2018 stating the below quote. Is this still true? I own DST on my steam account and I purchased a brand new pack for a friend yesterday, so I'm wondering if she received two copies. We started playing yesterday and I've checked her inventory but there is no extra gift copy. Please help, thank you!
A purchase is 2 copies. If you buy for yourself, you get two copies. If you buy for somebody else, they get 2 copies.
Once you already own the game, you can no longer buy it for yourself, because you already have it (that's just how steam works). So you can only buy it as a gift. Whoever you give that gift to will get both copies. When they accept the gift, one goes to their library and the other is a giftable copy. "
