Hello everyone!

It’s been a while since I’ve made a post here, I’d like to share with you our plans for 2019, which are extensive!

First, I’d like to recap what happened in 2017/2018:
In 2017 we launched the Forge, and followed it up in 2018 with the Gorge. The idea was that we could offer a new way of playing Don’t Starve Together, in a limited-time format. We were a bit burned out on creating DST core game content and this format allowed us to try something a bit different, so we made these crazy game modes and provided them to the community for free.

Every time we launched these events, tons of players came to play, and in every instance we hit our highest ever DST concurrency. We’re super thrilled that so many people came to play the our weird game events!

While we enjoyed the events and are happy with the result, there were some drawbacks: 

• They took WAY longer to make than we expected, so we weren’t able to make as much content as we wanted, and it left little time to do things like bug fixes and Quality of Life updates for the base game.
• Because we run the servers for these events, we also incurred the cost of these servers. Those of you who have been here a while know that Don’t Starve was not architected to be a multiplayer game, so running them on our servers was extremely inefficient. In short, even though we loved that everyone came to play, the item sales were only barely covering the costs of the servers.
• We found that it was exceedingly difficult for us to run these events on console and as such underserved our console players.

It has been a valuable experience and we think the game is better for it, however we feel that it’s time that we turn our attention back to the core Don’t Starve Together experience: surviving together. 

Here’s what we’re doing for 2019:

Brand New Content
The team is now working on brand new content for Don’t Starve Together. Survivors will be able to travel to new lands with new biomes, creatures, and more. 

The first drop of this new content will come in mid-April, and we will continually be adding to the content every couple months afterward. As we said before, we think it’s important that everyone can play together and we don’t segregate our audience, so all of this content will be available for free to everyone!

Character Refreshes
The team also felt it was high time we gave our core cast some love (yes, we heard you). Over the course of the next year, we will be bestowing every character with revamped abilities, and give a glimpse into their backstory. Our goals here are to make each character unique, interesting and valuable in their own right and we expect this to be game changing in many ways.

Starting in March with Winona, we will be releasing a character refresh once a month.

These character refreshes will again be free to all players, and we will be selling new skins for these characters on the month they are refreshed. 

In addition, the Triumphant, Guest of Honor and Survivor skin packs will be available to purchase for the character on that date. All owners of these skins prior to that date will be upgraded to an “Heirloom” rarity, with a higher unraveling value.

New Characters Enter the Fray
A fresh batch of four characters have been unwittingly ensnared and brought into the world. These new survivors will be released into the wild starting in Mid-March, and a new one will be released every 2 months.

We are still deciding the final price of these characters, but we currently think they will be $6.99 USD each, which includes a full character skin set. You will also be able to weave the characters with spool.

Since we do not want to charge players for the new world content, these new characters will be our main way to fund development of this new content.

Console Development
We are working hard on keeping the console versions of the game up to date. Specifically, we are investing in technology to allow us to more quickly update the game without going through lengthy certification on every small change, and we've also added more staff to work exclusively on updating the console versions.

We're happy to say that the next update for the Year of the Pig King event will launch within 2 days of the PC version.

Quality of Life, Twitch Drops, Etc.
We will also be continually updating the game with bug fixes, QoL updates, new skins for Twitch drops, and more things that we’re not quite ready to announce yet. 

Speaking of which, the Year of the Pig King update is going live on Thursday! Long Live the (Pig) King!

i cant buy this chest for my friends? only the deluxe chest but my friends already have wormwood as char. ive lots of friends and its kinda expensive to buy more time the deluxe chest instead of this chest. pls help

Heya! I have asked on the Discord server, and spent a while trying to find some sort of tutorial on how to use the dedicated server steam tool and how to set up the server easily (Couldn't find anything). If you know how to use it to set up your server, PLEASE tell me. This is what pops up when the tool is launched.

After the update upon trying to start my world I'm met with the error "Dedicated server failed to start, please try again later." 

I have tried researching and many have said mods to cause the issue but I have been able to start new worlds with all the same mods.

If anyone could please help, I am on day 85 which is not that long but it is a good run for me and my friends.

Was playing on this world last night before the update.

I started this thread back in 2016 as a time waster to catalogue every single skin in DST. Since then I've been revisiting this thread and adding more and more as DST's skin system grew ever bigger into the behemoth it is now. It's now 3 years later and I'm still at it!

I'm main Wendy, I really wish she would be reworked well, when the time comes.
I therefore propose a comparative analysis with two characters currently reworked and a personal proposal of mine.
Notice that I am repurposing old ideas, you may already have read my proposal in other topics. 

• Life: Winona's catapults - 400 HP / BERNIE! - 2000 HP / Abigail - 600 HP
• Regeneration: Winona's catapults - 8 HP for 10 seconds / BERNIE! - None / Abigail - 1 HP for 1 second
• Damage: Winona's catapults - 42,5 / BERNIE! - 50 / Abigail - 10 Day, 20 Dusk, 40 Night
• Damage to area: Winona's catapults - Yes / BERNIE! - None / Abigail - Yes
• It can hit the shadows: Winona's catapults - No / BERNIE! - Yes / Abigail - No
• Method of evocation: Winona's catapults - Build it with trusty tape, sticks and rocks / BERNIE! - Willow has to put it down and go crazy / Abigail - Wendy has to wait three or four days and sacrifice an animal on her twin's flower. She also loses 50 of sanity.
• In case of death: Winona's catapults - Winona can build a new catapult at any time and recover some of the materials from the old one. / BERNIE! - Willow can "cure" it with a sewing kit and bring it back to 100% of life. In case of abandonment, it give part of the materials to rebuild it from scratch. / Abigail - The flower closes for another 3/4 days
• Other special abilities: Winona's catapults - There is no limit to the number of catapults that Winona can build simultaneously. Each catapult requires to be powered by a generator. / BERNIE! - Willow can build several BERNIE! and activate them one at a time as soon as the previous one dies. BERNIE! It attracts the attention of enemies, allowing Willow to act almost undisturbed. / Abigail - She emits a feeble light, which however is very difficult to use against Charlie. Like BERNIE!, when an Abigail dies, Wendy can immediately summon another with another flower

As can easily be seen from this quick comparative analysis, Abigail is tremendously frail compared to other companion.
She has less life, does less damage even in her most powerful form, has no particularly interesting abilities beyond area damage; it also has a longer evocation method if we want to.

I would therefore like to reiterate the need to increase Abigail's statistics, as well as having the opportunity to tell her whether to attack or not.
I remember that both Winona and Willow have other abilities beyond their minions, while Wendy only has Abigail (currently). All the more reason, I think Abigail should be a little more resistant and versatile than the others.

Here are my suggestions on how to make Abigail appropriate to the new "power level" of the characters:

• Life: Abigail - 1200 HP
• Regeneration: Abigail - 10 HP for 1 second in "peaceful" mode; 5 HP for 1 second in "hostile" mode
• Damage: Abigail - 20 Day, 40 Dusk, 80 Night
• Damage to area: Abigail - Yes, +50% radius
• It can hit the shadows: Abigail - No
• Method of evocation: Abigail - Wendy has to wait three or four days and sacrifice an animal on her twin's flower. She also loses 50 of sanity. 
• In case of death: Abigail - The flower closes for another 3/4 days, If it is Wendy who sends Abigail away, the flower is immediately ready for a new evocation.
• Other special abilities: Abigail - She emits a feeble light, which however is very difficult to use against Charlie. Like BERNIE!, when an Abigail dies, Wendy can immediately summon another with another flower. Abigail can be controlled by Wendy, who can decide whether to put her in "peaceful" mode (she will never attack, under any circumstances, tending to distance herself from enemies) or "hostile" (normal behavior). Abigail is also 30% faster in moving.

This new Abigail, as you can see, does not have the possibility of "massacre" that have Winona's catapults, nor the possibility of obtaining as many nightmares as BERNIE! Also, She has 800 HP less than the latter and cannot be "repaired" with a simple sewing kit.
It also does less damage on average, only during the few night minutes it gets to inflict 80 damage.
however, this new Abigail, if used well, wants to be a tank of the first category: its massive regeneration can allow she (if commanded well on when to stand aside during the fight) to resist many hits, even by most powerful enemies. Now she really can protect Wendy, as her description says.

Ps: I have personally tested Abigail with these features, including the ability to control she. Personally, I've always found it to work very well without being broken.

A thread like this existed before but I'm afraid it fell deep into the archive, so here is a new one. You can post funny, odd and terrible pictures that you made while playing DST.

Love this one because it looks like as if the third bunny from the right (not counting the bunny behind the hut) is throwing the small bunny.

My dear Wolfgang managed to trap himself while being sane and of course I mocked him by taking a screenshot and weeks later finding myself trapped in this too while being sane.

Wigfrid is able to fish in carpet. Who would have guessed.

Is there any way to get a previous version of the game and to restrict it from updating ? 

When i start one specific world i have the message "dedicated server failed to start" but my world it's not dedicated... I have this problem exsactly after the update, please help me

Since todays update my current save is behaving a little strangely.

I always play using a gamepad and normally I can highlight food then press Right on the D-pad to eat it, along with equipping and unequipping highlight clothing/armour/weapons. I have tried disabling all mods but the problem still persists and I am currently playing as WX.

If I create a new world the D-pad works correctly again as normal.

I'm wondering if this problem is due to how Wormwood plants seeds in the ground with his new mechanic. While using Wormwood, pressing right on highlighted seeds in your inventory prompts you to plant them in the ground (followed by a button press to plant) instead of eating them. Eating the seed has now moved to Left D-pad instead of Right.

Could there be some sort of conflict with how other characters eat using Right D-pad? Left doesn't do anything with the other characters.

According to the DST-Shop and my Curio Cabinet, The Gorge skins can be bought & woven again since the last update:

It appears that 100% of weaveable skins can be woven since the last update. Is that any hint for a return of The Gorge or did Klei just release them again to make them available to everyone?

Some time ago I created a health survey.

I think that enough people have voted to be able to make some initial considerations on the results, which in my opinion are quite unexpected.

1) Do you think it is too easy recover health in DST?

Despite what seemed to emerge from the discussions, an absolute majority voted that, in the game, health recovery is balanced. Only 14% of voters found it too excessive.

2) How much health do you think it should give back the food?

Again, although everywhere I read that the food is too "powerful" as a cure, the absolute majority finds the dishes balanced.

3) In case of treatment, should health be recovered instantly or in a few minutes with a little HP per second?

Here things get more interesting: on the whole, only a minority of voters voted for the current system of instant care.
The majority is divided into a relative majority that would like a "hybrid" system and a relative minority that would only like care diluted over time.

4) Do you think the characters should have a mild form of passive regeneration of health?

On this question the opinion of the community is almost unanimous: passive regeneration is not something wish

5) Do you think that managing the health of your character on DST would be more exciting if altered states were added? (For example such as poisoning, bleeding, bone breaking, head trauma, etc.; with their respective care and prevention tools)

In this case, the absolute majority expressed itself in favor of the addition of altered states that make it more complicated to safeguard one's health, albeit with different degrees of "enthusiasm".

In short, the survey shows unequivocally that the majority finds the current adequate and balanced DST health management system.
What seems to be required are new mechanics that make it more exciting to stay healthy: in essence, the current system is fine, there is no need to change it, but to corroborate it with new features.

I am not setting rules, I am suggesting a few agreements we can have for better gameplay experience for all of us. These were popular complaints I collected from various online communities, and are not just personal whining (except that on Wes, screw Wes). Also don’t take it word by word. For example, when I say spare Beefalo or Koalefant I don’t mean NEVER HUNT THEM. I mean to think twice before reckless killing spree. Same goes for my comment on other characters mains.

With the Willow refresh newly launched, it’s time for the next phase: new game content! I’d like to update you all on our current plan. 

Return of Them
Over the next several months, we’ll be releasing a series of game updates available to all players, under the single thematic focus entitled “Return of Them”.

Charlie’s machinations have come to a head as she turns her attention towards the skies - and the mysterious entity that awaits there. Our Survivors will be forced to contend with terrifying monstrosities beyond their comprehension, and yet, there may be a silver lining: their minds and horizons will be expanded under the sublime light of an ancient moon.

Here is an overview of what is available in our first update, Turn of Tides:

• Added a new multiplayer-centric boat mechanic, where players can build and deck out a boat for multiple survivors to travel together on
• Added a new Seafaring crafting menu
• Added the Lunar Island
• Added Enlightenment
• Added 3 new Lunar Island biomes, along with new creatures, objects, and craftables

For this first update, we’ve focused primarily on building the fundamental tech and infrastructure for Return of Them. Please know that we expect this update to be a bit content light, and over the following months we will be adding more content to both the islands and the sea.

Turn of Tides is available to play in a beta branch today, and will officially launch on June 20th.

Wormwood

In addition to new content, we are preparing for the arrival of the next new character. We’re happy to announce that Wormwood will soon enter the fray, fresh from his adventures in Don't Starve: Hamlet!

Wormwood is coming to Don’t Starve Together on June 6th, and will be priced similarly to Wortox. In addition, anyone who owns Don’t Starve: Hamlet will have access to Wormwood for free.

Warly 
For the next character refresh, Warly will be sailing into the Constant from Shipwrecked on July 18th, and will be free to all players of Don’t Starve Together.

As with all character updates, Warly will be getting a design refresh and come with new abilities specific to Don’t Starve Together.

What about console?
Since console does not have beta branch functionality, consoles will be getting Turn of Tides at the official launch in June.

When is my favorite character getting a refresh?
We will announce more characters refreshes as we get to them. If you have suggestions and feedback make sure to post them. We are watching and we do use that information to help us decide what we want to do next. 

Will my existing worlds be affected if I switch to the beta branch?
No. Save data for the beta branch is kept separate from the live branch at: \\Documents\Klei\DoNotStarveTogetherReturnOfThemBeta

Will my existing worlds work in the beta branch if I copy them over?
Not at this time. For future updates, we will look into the possibility of retrofitting the new content into existing DST worlds, as we did for the A New Reign updates.
 

Hi, I own Hamlet, yet Wormwood still seems to be locked in DST. Is there a process that I must connect the two games together or something?

• Fixed controller bug with using items on yourself, such as eating.
• Fixed bug where Bramble Husk’s thorns are still triggered when the Player is mounted.
• Fixed missing sound FX for Wormwood’s /sleepy emote.
• Fixed death announcement for dying to Thorns.
• Fixed layering and hiding issues with Oasis Bound Legs.

So, I got Wormwood today because I own Hamlet (thank you very much, by the way, Klei, very generous of you!) but I didn't get my normal daily drop. Did Wormwood replace it? It's not a big deal if I miss one drop, but I'm wondering if it's something I need to fix, and I'm hoping that it will at least go back to normal starting tomorrow. Has anyone else had problems with this?

Or perhaps it's possible the drop happened, but I wasn't able to see it? I can try checking my items to see if there's something new that I didn't have before, but there are so many it's a little hard to keep track. ^o^;>
