Joe's recent post listing the current Willow plan allows us to give prior feedback and freely be the annoying lil' punks we are and maybe (MAYBE, let's not get too entitled here) be part of the process. All in all, I just want to hug the Klei people. <3

TBH I'm really torn to ask for Willow to be fire immune and come back to the good old days or to maybe embrace something new..

Fire Immunity is catching up a lot of attention, but Bernie not so much.

fighting burning mobs isn't really a bit deal for her either for her 3 seconds fire immunity and it won't with her improved 6 seconds immunity

standing on top of fires should would be able to do anyways with the buff to 6 seconds fire immunity.. just not as long as if immune.. 

she could be closer to lava pools as any character can.. she can stand a bit longer now  and closer (improved overheating too with update)

the fire no eyed deer can be mitigated with an ice staff... so this is really not that relevant IMO

Dfly... I mean I never bother to fight the larvae.. they are kinda irrelevant if you build a wall or wall off an arena or the lava pools...

and you can put Dfly to sleep when she enrages.. so again this isn't really that beneficial

NOW, Bernie:

He will be much more useful in everyday situations regardless of fire. I think they are pretty much basing Bernie with some Forge elements. He is pretty much gonna work as a Bodyguard aggroing mobs.. not only shadows and attacking them as well

As much as I would enjoy fire immunity I realize that having a bodyguard Bernie might be a good change into another direction... he could probably be useful in the caves taunting shadow monkeys for farming too.. dunno Bernie stats to assert this at the moment.. Just throwing some ideas..

So,,, maybe asking for fire immunity is just resistance to change the focus to something else entirely that has very few niche benefits?

So, with the new Willow coming up I was thinking about the potential tricks that could be done with her new-ish set of abilities. However since the information is pretty vague this is nothing more than speculation.

Currently a fun strategy (not really efficient right now but..) that utilizes Bernie is to use all the insanity inducing items alongside several Bernies to fight bosses. Nightmare armor, night sword, blue caps, bat bat, and some others. If Bernie is actually capable of fighting there are interesting possibilities of creating Bernie armies to fight bosses as well as more effectively using the "Go Nuts" items/weapons. My hope for Bernie's buff is that he will make it feasibly possible to fight bosses totally insane without an annoying amount of preparation beforehand effectively giving Willow easy access to insanity inducing items with little need to prepare for the penalty of being insane. Not to mention if Bernie is strong then being able to drop a bodyguard at will is also pretty interesting concept to play with.

Bernie also has the potential for being an EXTREMELY effective nightmare fuel farmer if Bernie is actually strong. Especially if there is a small army of Bernies. Equip a nightmare amulet, bone helmet, or just plain go insane and have Bernie knock them all out while you tend to other matters. IF Bernie is strong then Willow may have taken the slot for the most efficient nightmare fuel farmer. The only other two characters that have an innate ability to gather nightmare fuel faster are Wolfgang and Wigfrid since they can kill them easier and even then they have to dedicate their focus on farming fuel. (Maxwell/Wes don't count since it's easy to set up an insanity farm and they don't have any innate ability to kill them faster)

Another interesting possibility is that according to the teaser for reworked Willow Bernie can now be equipped for sanity and warmth. Unless JoeW actually meant insulation this means that Willow could have a portable personal heater allowing extremely easy winter travel on the surface as well as easier winter spelunking. If the player has the hindsight to use Bernie for heat in the Winter that means that it will be unnecessary to carry around fire making supplies freeing up a couple slots of inventory space and being oh so very convenient.

Here's hoping Bernie is actually strong. If Bernie ends up being really weak then I can't say i'm all too impressed with the rework since everything else is pretty meh for advanced players and she'll just be a new player oriented survivor.

TLDR; If Bernie is strong then Willow could potentially the best nightmare fuel farmer, efficient winter/summer explorer, and have easy access to insanity inducing items.

If anyone thinks of any more interesting possibilities with her new abilities please share. I'm definitely excited to play her because regardless of what people think she's definitely being buffed from her current state.

My dear Wolfgang managed to trap himself while being sane and of course I mocked him by taking a screenshot and weeks later finding myself trapped in this too while being sane.

Wigfrid is able to fish in carpet. Who would have guessed.

As a Willow main I can concur that her current benefits are really lukewarm and not very interesting, and her Rebalance benefits are kind of exactly the same?

Looking at Willow's Rebalance it seems like the developers kind of forgot what the point of Willow is, which is fire. The idea of having an army of Bernies fighting enemies is cool, but also ridiculous and not consistent with Willow's character; which is fire. All the fire benefits they want to give her are really forgettable so im'ma just put my idea for a rebalance here since it's what I was hoping they'd do. The main idea here is fire.

Benefits :

Willow no longer takes damage from fire, and heals slightly when she is on fire.

Enemies that die to fires caused by Willow drop their normal items instead of ashes.

Willow gains sanity from starting a fire, standing near fire, and the insanity aura of enemies doesn't effect Willow if they are currently on fire.

Fire heats Willow up faster if she is cold, and she takes less damage from overheating.

Willow doesn't lose sanity when using the Fire Staff.

Downsides :

Putting a fire out reduces Willow's sanity, Willow gradually loses sanity while it is raining or snowing.

Willow freezes easier, takes double damage from freezing and loses sanity while freezing.

Willow loses one sanity each time she eats something that hasn't been exposed to fire, as in cooked.

Willow has a Fire meter which passively decreases, and is increased each time she starts a fire. The size of the object burned determines how much starting the fire replenishes the meter, and standing near fires slightly increases it. Willow gradually begins freezing, and losing sanity, if the meter gets too low; and this freezing comes on faster the lower the meter gets from that point.

There's probably more that could be added to this but that's about all I got. Basically the idea is that Willow likes fire and doesn't like the cold. Her main benefit is that she can weaponize fire in a way other characters can't, and she has various modifiers which make her gain a lot of sanity and lose a lot of sanity. Because she's obsessed with fire, she has a fire meter which makes her have to keep making fires to stop from going into her form of withdrawal.

Fire.

Willow takes no burn damage while extinguishing fires and does it faster than others.
Heal items exist, and most if not all the food items give enough HP to compensate that's damage taken to extinguish that Grass.

Adding fuel to fires is more effective for Willow.

We found that our schedule was just too demanding and we want to be able to make things interesting and not just pump out stuff as fast as we can. 
i like the sound of that.

Recommendation : i will mostly leave it for Willow Players as i am not that of a willow player, i have tried her for 10-12 hours but i think i dont have much experience yet to judge. but, a wider range lighter would be great and an ability for willow to light mobs on fire by hand.

I’m writing this to say I stopped playing DST on PS4 shortly after not receiving The Forge in late 2017 or early in 2018.

Hi everyone!
I read, like everyone, the JoeW update, and I took a few hours to think it over, before commenting.
I think Klei wants to add good things to Willow, if what they have written will allow a character with which it is easier to survive in the early stages and who can easily procure large amounts of nightmare fuel in the more advanced stages.
I am very happy indeed that they want to empower Bernie, giving him the deep utility he deserves.
But there was something that didn't satisfy me. 
It is like the feeling that Willow still does not revolve around her role, or being an arsonist.
They even want to give her the power to put out fires first and better: very useful, I understand Klei's intentions. But does it not distort the character? What has always held me back in playing Willow in DST, is that attempts to avoid fire in all its forms, like any other character. With the new update maybe a part of me wanted this thing to change: I really wanted to play a pyromaniac, I wanted the fire to become the cornerstone of my run, source of life and source of death, for a unique gameplay that only Willow could have given me .
I realize that it can be very difficult for Klei to manage a character like Willow. Their team is handling so many things during this time. But with Wagstaff, Winona, Wortox, Wormwood they have done splendid jobs in the last few months, they have given each one a unique gameplay that reflects their vocations. I believe that Willow should also be updated because she can finally be an arsonist, and benefit from that.
Here on the forum many users (myself included) have given many tips on how to make fire something really good for Willow. I absolutely do not pretend that Klei does what we have proposed, but perhaps he can take inspiration to give Willow something unique and special.
Below I will republish my old idea on how to make the fire "live", to our friend with spiral braids.
If you have other ideas on how to rotate Willow's gameplay around the fire, write them down below. Because more than balancing or power, what Willow now needs I believe is being able to be an arsonist without worrying about the consequences

(With Willow we should want this, not try to avoid it or have the skills to prevent it. Klei's backgrounds also say it )

I think playing with Willow should lead to unique gameplay, to actively look for fire, to "live it"!
So the fire for Willow should become a uniquely positive element: immunity is essential to maintain the "soul" of the character but immunity to overheating is also necessary. An arsonist who dies of heat has never been seen. 
I also believe that a Willow player should be able to use only the fire to stay sane: we leave Scottish hair, tubas, dapper clothes and green mushrooms to others, please. Mental health is something personal, every character has their own nightmares, everyone should have special remedies to recover quickly (or not at all as a defect, as in the case of Wickerbottom).
So I think Willow should recover a Sanity +20 near the flames. Remember her have the low parameter and freezing when she has little sanity.
But in my opinion Willow shouldn't stop there, she should dare more to be really funny: Fire as weapon!
Now, in the game no one really uses fire as a weapon: it does little damage, threatens to damage the player himself and expand the flames to nearby structures, in addition to the risk of losing the loot!
But Willow should radically change the way you play in my view of things: you should want to fight with fire. But how?
Immunity is a first step, but not enough.
Let's say that if Willow hits an enemy that is on fire it deals 50% more damage. Here, this is already starting to make things more interesting.
But if, finally, Willow could even build "fiery" versions of the basic weapons?
Nothing particularly convoluted or complex: it would be enough to add a single tab for her, the "toys" tab. Here, combining each basic weapon of the game with a red gem can create an identical variant but with a reddish iridescence, with the same but features that inflict fire on enemies.
Always remember that there is always the risk of losing the loot in this way, of setting fire to nearby structures and that any teammates would have difficulty fighting together because they lack immunity. 
So overall it seems to me quite balanced, but potentially hilarious to play, as well as easy to make.
I hope that Klei will give Willow the rebalancing that merit. As lore and appearance is one of my favorite characters!

Willow should be able to have fun with the fire, play with it... look how happy she is with the idea of blowing up the world! (and look how worried Wes is behind...)

Summarizing my small proposal:

1. Immunity to fire 
2. Immunity to overheating
3. High recovered sanity by the fire.
4. + 50% damage you have fiery enemies.
5. Possibility to build "fiery" variants of basic weapons.

The faults could be

1. Freezing damage when she goes crazy
2. Freeze (very) faster in winter

(To be, or not to be the fire immunity... this is the problem! No, it's not a problem, she need immunity to fire)

And Bernie? 

Personally, I have never felt the need: there is already Wendy with a companion (Abigail) and Willow, I repeat, I think it should revolve mainly around the fire and not a follower.
I can understand that many Bernie like it, it is very nice the idea of a teddy bear that comes alive to protect she from the shadows, Klei has certainly done something very sweet.
But I repeat, I have difficulty appreciating this with the role that Willow (in theory) should have.
Bernie can remain as a "bait" for shadows, without being further enhanced. I don't feel the need that Bernie to be stronger for how I changed Willow

And the lighter?

That too has never been really useful.

I'm sorry to say, but I've always preferred to build torches than to use it, for the greatest ray of light 
It can stay like a portable fire to cook food, I don't think it needs anything else, as I changed Willow

(I would like to conclude with a Willow fan art that, in my opinion, perfectly embodies what should be the spirit of her character: a young woman with the complex of pyromania and who uses fire to survive and overcome the horrors of Constant.

With Bernie buff after rework, I feel that Willow is stepping into Wendy footstep and it's quite sad since she possibly could do many things with fire mechanics.

One of the perk I could think about is she could extinguish fire in small area instantly with the cost of 30-40 HP. Even cooler, it could work like Dumbledore's Deluminator, capture and release fire at will at close range. If she did not release the fire stored in Deluminator in 10s, it will be exploded and damage her. Or this could be done by herself or her lighter.

This would make her a very valuable asset in team play, especially in the newbie team when they need to deal with summer fire (less depend on flingomatics)

I said what I said. You are never gonna be exposed to fire more then few seconds anyway. Except maybe when fighting Dragonfly but I mean when was the last time you burn to death? I am all about strong and not bland characters but for Willow that will not make her more or less interesting. Instead I prefer focusing another fire related powers. 

First off, I'm not a game developer nor a pro player by any means, and my idea here is not to balance, but rather an idea how to make Willow interesting and helpful to the team.

Let's look at the last two characters added to DST:

Winona - is able to build catapults and generators that allow her to take down waves of enemies - helpful both to the team and to herself.

Wortox - a fighter that needs to eat souls that allow him to teleport and heal himself and others - helpful both to the team and himself.

Now the one from Hamlet beta branch:

Wheeler - 5 fewer slots in her inventory, but is able to track down items + ranged attacks

Wagstaff - punishes for not prepared food, sees badly, makes a very good wood harvester - understandable why he's not in DST

The thing is, I believe, a character in DST should be both powerful alone and in terms of cooperation with others. Now, even with the rework, Willow is still not helpful to the team, besides Bernie, but it's still not needed when you have a football helmet + wooden armour, which is fairly easy to get

Here are my ideas:

Lighter:

-Is infinite in terms of giving light to prevent from Charlie

-Takes a small percent (maybe like 0.5%) every item set on fire

-Takes a larger percent for making a dwarf star-like orb that lasts about 1.5-2 days, warms, cooks and scares off monsters

-When reaches 0% is not broken, but needs to be refilled with nightmare fuel

The reason to make it refuelable with nightmare fuel comes from the idea of Bernie being a target dummy for nightmares, which if taken advantage of, could result in big numbers of nightmare fuel.

Willow herself:

-FULL. FIRE. RESISTANCE.

-deals 25% more damage with fire-themed weapons

-"Fire meter" that works similarly to Woodie's Log Meter, which means it lowers over time and needs to be refilled by setting things on fire.

Willow is based on novels about young people related to pyrokinesis, mainly “Firestarter” (or “Charlie” in some editions) by Stephen king:

During her childhood, Charlene ("Charlie") McGee had a teddy bear which she ignited on fire by simply looking at it, through the power of her mind.

Bernie is not only based on Firestarter, he´s inspired by the classic haunted dolls, animated by magic or spirits, who will harm or protect certain persons.

One of the big traits of Charlie is having a strong (but fiery) temper and little patience, always manifesting in her behavior.

Willow acts in this way too:

The name Willow is related to magic, witchcraft, to be more exact.

For example the willow tree is know as "witchs´s tree" due to its parts being used as ingredients for potions, and rituals in old times by witches and warlocks.

Interestingly Willow was also portrayed as a witch in her Funko Pops and Halloween art.

Between 1920 & 1930, Japan started to produce lighters under the brand “Willow”, with different models and decorations.

Since every time I write the word "Warbucks" here on the forum people get upset, I reformulate my post of this morning, I don't want to upset the sensitive souls 

I think the next new DST character could be a hunter: the game still lacks a character that fights at a distance (similar to how Wheeler fights in DS Hamlet  )
I think these should be his statistics:
Health: 100
Hunger: 150
Sanity: 200
"The Hunter" loves his wealth: he loves gold; he has a bank of his own in London, where he dives into money like a flashfish, digs tunnels like a mole and throws it over his head like a shower.
"The Hunter" recovers +1 sanity per minute for every 10 gold nuggets in its inventory, up to a maximum of +10 per minute.
Beast hunter: "The Hunter" is a hunter; he loves the thrill he feels while hunting big animals with his trusty riffle. In his villa in London he has a room dedicated exclusively to hunting trophies, proof of the triumph of man over wild nature!
"The Hunter" starts with a rifle. You can craft it with gears, wooden boards and gold.
Only "The Hunter" can craft bullets, so without at least one "The Hunter" in the squad it is not possible to run the rifle for long.
Bullets are crafted with gunpowder and rock.
"The Hunter" regains sanity when it kills a creature, based on the creature's life points (surely only +1 sanity for creatures under 100 life points); this does not apply to pigs, bunnyman or other players (they are too "human" and "The Hunter" don't finds it gratifying to kill them).
"The Hunter" can craft trophies with the remains of some animals: he can exchange these trophies with the pig king for rewards. (or use them as decorative objects)
Example: Dragon Trophy (with dragonfly skin and monster meat): the Pig King exults jubilation and gives "The Hunter" 1 gem of every color of the rainbow.
"The Hunter" is a veteran of exploration: as a young man he was already marching in the name of the queen in the heart of black Africa! He had to learn to make his resources last: all the tools that "The Hunter" uses lose half of their durability.
Disadvantages:
"The Hunter" is now used to his life of comfort and wealth in London, as well as being old and frail.
He has about 33% less life; the food that is not prepared in the pot makes him disgusted, making him suffer a penalty of -15 to the sanity.
As you can see, this new character is absolutely original and unpublished, without any reference whatsoever to other things 

Hello, basically I've spent this whole day trying to figure out how to link my previous world with new caves. It might sound silly, I mean, why? Just generate a new world, right? Well no, because we play rarely and survived over 120 days, which is a lot to us due to our very limited schedules.

Short note: I am using a VPS server with CentOS 7.6 (used Ubuntu 16.04 previously)

Aside that, how I went about it is simple: install the dedicated server on the VPS, start it so it generates caves, shutdown. Move my save that I have to the server, start it, use the "OneWayConnections" and "Connections" mods or whatever to setup an automatic sinkhole/staircase configuration. One thing that I found bizarre is that I don't see any activity from them. My modoverride.lua on master looks like this:

If I am being honest, I do not understand the configuration of this mod at all, which is why it might look bad or such.

However, that is still okay (most likely). Why? Because I tried to assign the cave_entrance the ability to move me to the caves. And that works, in fact, it worked even without assigning it - I can easily get moved to the caves using sinkholes without configuring anything, doesn't matter if I change the top or not. The commands I used for the manual override are:

As you can guess, the shardID for Caves is 1833211612, and for Master is the short 1. That is fine, it assigns okay, I suppose.

However, assign it or not, the problem at all cases comes down to this sequence of errors every time I try to use the staircase in Caves to return to the top:

In fact, I've no idea anymore how to fix this, because the session files do look fine to me. I've done the part of moving session files from my saved files' session folder to the Caves in order for them to function properly, but it ain't working, I guess?

In fact, if I enter the Caves using sinkholes, they just teleport me to a weird place, not anywhere close to a staircase, which I assume it bases off of the misalignments of the two worlds, because they've been generated separately (duh, because I've merged them). However, if the mod and assignment did work, it would teleport me to the proper locations, I hypothesize, but it doesn't.

Any help would be appreciated. I have exams next month and we just used this server to chill out with my friend. Had my English exam yesterday, which is why I am willing to fix this somewhat soon.

Of course, we could play like this, explore the caves like that (when I align the caves with the world so it was close-by), but I really don't want to teleport to a different world with commands each time I had to return, with I suppose, this approach:

c_migrateto(worldId, portalId)

Furthermore, I'd need to teleport my friend back, which is even less logical since we're looking for the original experience, lesser commands and lesser usage of advantageous mechanics (adding the fact that I don't even know how would I move him across worlds other than giving him admin and teaching him to migrate himself).

Hi you all, i recently created a world as Wendy that had the "lights out" preset on. Im having a blast but i quickly realise some stuff such as no bird spawn cause you know its night time. So my question was, is there a possible way to acquire a bird in this game mode ? Could Wicker's book be a solution (i dont know if they can spawn birds at night) ?

i am very excited for willow's new perks and so is my wife, hopefully by the time the update is released, klei will be working on a nintendo switch release for dst so her boyfriend can play along with us

anyway i believe willow's new perks change up her playstyle very significantly and i feel the way she plays no longer matches up with how she looks, so maybe willow is also deserving of some rework on her design

personally these are my suggestions and i think it will fit her new abilities:
- willow should wear a white shirt and red skirt for a more colourful look
- willow's hair should be blonde to give her a more youthful appearance
- bernie is now completely white and can float

Will there ever be a plush of the Bees from DS/DST? I've always thought Don't Starve's bees were cute.

A purchasable bee plush on the klei store would be really cool, maybe have it come with a Proof of Purchase rarity bee backpack skin!

Just a thought, a bee plush to go with my adorable glommer plush would be amazing. >.<
