The Future of Events

$

0

This isn't a thread about what I think the future events will be like (that's a whole other discussion entirely), but more about if and how they will be implemented into the game in the future.

What I want to know is if the events will ever be permanently implemented into the game in the future. I understand Klei is considering this, but I'm wondering how it would work. Could each event be selected off the main menu, so you can play them whenever you wish, or would it be more like how it occurs from a canonical story point of view (i.e. go through the motions of reactivating the ancient gateway, play the events in order, etc.)?

The second one doesn't make a whole lot of sense. For instance, if you had a dedicated server with ten people, you'd have to boot four off to play the Forge, and three more off after that to play the Gorge.

I realize probably Klei is so busy trying to crank out all of their stuff at the moment that this is the least of their problems, and I can understand that. I just love the events, and while waiting for them makes them 100x better, I feel like it would be a shame to lose them forever after their initial runs.

Game not responding and flickering whenever I click

I've installed don't starve together on my laptop for the first time, and whenever I play the game will flicker and not respond whenever I click. The game runs fine when I use my wasd keys with good framrate and everything. when I put the game into windowed mode I can see that the flickering is the app flickering between working and not responding, i've never seen a game do this before and I've done all the standard re installing and checking validity of files on steam and updated my computer's apu drivers but it's still doing the same thing so im at a loss

I've found strange file in scripts of DST

Hello, guys! I am really excited. I've found a really strange and interesting script in game's files. If you go to: source_folder_of_the_game/data/databundles/scripts/nis, you will find a file "xbnyn.lua". So this file looks like there is wrong encoding. You can find here some single words like: "execute". "print", "string", "table", etc, but another big part is broken. There is no doubt that is not a lua script. But we have one little problem: how to get the full source code of the script? I don't know lua well, so I hope you will help me guys. And sorry for my bad english.

Server is not responding when gf joins my hosted game

$

My laptop: Win10 Pro, DST run as admin, enabled firewall.

Her laptop: Win10 Home, DST run as admin, enabled firewall .

Whenever I host a game (with or without cave), she just can't join me, it keeps stating that "Server is not responding". I don't use any mod at all. We tried this many times in few days, no luck. However, she can join other servers without any issue. This is frustrated because I bought this game just to play with my gf.

Interesting though, when she hosts a game, I can join in without issue. But due to laptop ownership, it is safe & convenient to host game using my laptop, not hers. Her laptop has lower spec, and sharing usage with other and some other issue. I want to emphasize that we do want only host game using my laptop.

Besides, I have no issue joining other people's server. What is wrong with my laptop DST set up? Please help solve this problem.

Gorgetale [Undertale + Gorge AU]

The story picks up right after Undertale's True Pacifist ending. Frisk escapes with their friends from the underground. Monsters finally roam free on the surface. Near the barrier is an island where they've decided to settle. Things were going great, everybody lived in peace. This is what every monster has been dreaming of when they were trapped underground. The Sun shined brightly onto the island. The monsters thought it looked beautiful, it's something they've never seen before. Every morning, they admired the sunlight as often as they could.

As the days pass, nobody even seemed to notice until it was too late. The sky was getting darker and darker. And then an enormous maw forms right at the heavens, this terrifies everyone. It was loud and growling, nobody knew what was happening. It's the Gnaw. Hungry, angry, and snarling. The Gnaw growls louder and louder, growing impatient at the confused monsters. It has waited long enough, it decides to punish them.

A plague is cast upon the island. The monsters stare in horror as some of their friends and families drop to the ground and beg for help as they slowly mutate into horribly disfigured scalies. Frisk found this to be unacceptable and went to civilise with the Gnaw. Attempting to reason with the Gnaw, Frisk pleads with it to reverse the effects of the plague and just become friends with everybody. The Gnaw ignores the pleas and nonchalantly turns Frisk into a scalie. Without even stopping to react, a mermified Frisk immediately jumps into the ocean, never to be seen again.

Frisk's friends are shocked at what had just happened. Everyone felt confused and frustrated. The monsters started looking for solutions. Toriel believes that the Gnaw wants sacrifices, but they didn't know what to give away. Alphys went to study the scalified monsters in hopes of restoring them back to their original form. Asgore was overcome by anger at what the Gnaw did to his people, he wanted justice for them and declares war. He organised his best soldiers, including Undyne, to attack with their magic powers. Asgore and his army gathered underneath the Gnaw and started throwing spears, fire attacks, and such in an attempt to vanquish it. This proves to be futile as it only served to further anger the beast.

As a punishment, the Gnaw scalifies all of the soldiers plus some other innocent monsters. Undyne and Alphys undergo the scalification process, but they remain unaltered since they're already scalies. Asgore almost turns into a scalie, but fortunately, due to Alphys's prior research on the scalies, she was able to significantly delay the process, although not completely halt it. Still, Asgore knows the inevitable. Still not satisfied, the Gnaw drops a few nukes on the island, destroying most homes and leaving only some living survivors. The monsters were devastated. Toriel, after witnessing the attack's failure, decides on a more peaceful approach.

Toriel runs up to her kitchen and started cooking up her best recipe, butterscotch-cinnamon pie. Toriel offers the pie and the Gnaw immediately beams it up to its maw. Everybody watches in delight as the pies travels up the beam and gets devoured. The Gnaw is so pleased that it rewards the monsters immensely, so it brings Flowey to the island. Flowey is perplexed as he looks around, seeing everyone staring at him. Then the Gnaw demonstrates its power by returning Flowey back into his original form, as Asriel. The monsters rejoice with renewed hope, they saw a miracle happen right in front of them. Asriel is tremendously ecstatic about retaining his real form, he no longer has to be a soulless flower anymore.

It has been realised that what the Gnaw wants is food, so Toriel cooks up all kinds of pies to sate its hunger. Pie after pie, the Gnaw gets spoiled, eventually losing interest in pies and started to develop different cravings. Toriel notices that the Gnaw has been gradually getting less satisfied, and so she started needing to cook various other kinds of recipes. She knew she couldn't do this anymore, even with the help of the remaining monsters, as the Gnaw gets progressively even more gluttonous and picky. The island runs low on resources, limiting her options.

Out of nowhere, a group of three humans suddenly pop into the island. And this is where we, the Don't Starve Together community, get involved to help the monsters!

We've developed this Undertale mod for Gorge to allow everyone to participate in this magnificent AU:

Should The Gorge Dishes Be Add To CookPot? [POLL]

I feel some of the Gorge event dishes could possibly be add to the Cook pot. For example the cheese cake. U may be like " how we suppose to make that?" Well . The cheese cake cost us some milk I think and etc recipe item. Sorry I forgot and im to lazy to simply search it up. Anyway.  Here in the game. We already have goat and it make perfect sense to be able to milk the goat in some way. If your wondering how we suppose to fit 4 recipe reqiure item in cookpot. Makes perfect sense to have a tier 2 cookpot.

wait off topic . so the whole time we been buying goat milk from the goat in the gorge event. It was possibly her "milk." If you know what I mean by lol * wink wink *

EDIT: (Ik it's in the wrong section. I tired for long time already trying to switch it t o the Gorge event section but dosent seem to work in the filter )

Tips on how to be Courteous to Fellow Players

$

Now this thread is not meant to call anyone out, nor is it about venting your frustrations over mistakes noobs make. These are tips aimed more at showing ways of being considerate than improving your skill at the game.

I don't have a lot of time for playing computer games, so when I play DST I tend to hop on a random server and help out all I can before I have to leave (sometimes hosting my own server if I can't find one, which tends to be lonely), and I thought it would be nice to share ways I've found of not being a liability and not getting on peoples bad sides. I'd like to see other peoples tips too, in case there's some I've missed or just haven't thought of. So here's mine :3

  • Don't ask where the Base is Right After Joining: This one's simple, but it goes a long way in not annoying people. Now I know that when you first enter a server you want to know where you can come to at night to cook and spam the /dance emote, but be patient. If you aren't given directions or offered an escort, explore, gather some things, get your bearings. People will respect you more if you survive a few days before asking where the base is located. Who knows, you may even find it on your own!
  • Don't Pick Everything: When first entering one of the many randomly generated islands, our brains tend to immediately slip into PICK ALL THE THINGS mode, especially those of us who've spent a fair amount of time in the single player game. However, when playing in multipayer, one has to stop and think, "Hey, if I systematically pick every bit of flint, grass, twigs, and food from around the portal in a ten mile radius, then there won't be anything left for new players!" Please, be considerate. How can you expect new players to survive a few days if they can't even scrounge up enough for a torch?
  • Drop some Flint by the Portal: It's a small thing that'll help out people just entering the server. You don't even have to go out of the way to do it; if you happen to be pasing by the portal and have some flint to spare, just drop some by it, or make a pickaxe to leave behind so they can collect their own. Heck, I've heard of people making a chest by the portal containing equipment like torches, rabbit earmuffs, and pickaxes to help new players out.
  • Don't Enter in Winter or Summer: Pay attention to the day and season of the server you're joining. If you want to join in a difficult season for some extra challenge, go ahead. Just don't expect everyone to drop what they're doing to help you out.
  • If you don't want Strangers, set a Password: You'd think this one would be a no brainer, but I've heard a lot of stories of people joining servers just to be kicked the moment they enter. I assume it only happens when someone doesn't know that they can make a password for they're server, but still, it's rude.
  • Drop your Stuff Before you Leave: Before you leave a server, it's nice to drop your items on the ground so others can use them. If you're playing with familiar people on a server you know you'll be on again, you can keep your equipment. In any case it's still rude to leave with gears, a big stack of silk, or any other important items still in your inventory, selfishly taking them out of reach of the unfortunate players left on the server.
  • Keep Busy: Look around the base. Does it still need some drying racks? A crockpot? Some farms? Do the traps need to be emptyed? Are you low on wood? Look around for things that need to be done, and if you're having trouble finding something, it never hurts to ask. No one likes a leach.

I hope you enjoyed reading through my wall of text and I didn't waste your time. Feel free to post helpful tips of your own, and you might help a few people become a little more helpful. Maybe.

If you want a tldr just read the bold text.

Help, all worlds gone!

Hello!

I'll just make it quick and type what happened

What I want
I'm looking for my save files and where I could place them so they would work again

Full story
I recently started playing don't starve together again on a old world enjoying the new patches (I had stopped before the sand monster thing update)
I came out of the cave played regurally for a week without any problems and that was when I decided to loot the ruins. While in the ruins my fps started to really suffer, I decided to hop out of full screen mode, I still had huge fps issues but made it out with some good loot. Fps became normal again and I played on. 2 days after that (while playing a couple of times a day) i received a error message while trying to start dont starve together on steam. (cant remember which error) i just kept trying to start the game, sometimes it just gave an error and wouldnt start up at all and than the second try would send me in the game client but give me a big black screen and this would repeat in the same order a couple of times. I decided to restart my computer which still made me get the same errors and after a while the problem seemed to have fixed without me doing anything. When I started it up once again I found out that all my 'Hosted servers' (I had solo games and some multiplayer games which I barely used) had dissapeared.
I'm now looking for my save files which I just want to play on again.

What I found
So I already tried some stuff to get my save files up and running, I think I found them since changing anything in them doesnt seem to affect what happens to the 5 empty slots.

I tried making a new world to see if it would affect any of the maps in the pictures and if nothing happened I would delete cluster_1 because I think the clusters are the save files for all the worlds you've made.
I made a new world which should appear in cluster_1 and then deleted cluster_1 to see if it was still there:
Edit: after re entering the world I created as a test it now shows cluster one again

Thats all I have so far

I hope I can just insert these clusters somewhere because I think they are my old save files
Ive tried just blatantly copy pasting them into the local files from dont starve together but nothing happened Please someone help ;.;5b37facbd1415_WhenIgotolocalfiles.thumb.PNG.4542ecd84865915964e58b720da3727a.PNG5b37fad8eaef7_whatIfoundinadifferentmapsomewhereelseonmycomputerindocuments(seperatedfromthelocalfiles).PNG.614c9944acdc5fc96b9f3729394189e5.PNG5b37fb2916623_editwhatIfound.PNG.980d07f28a130e9712012931709a35f7.PNG

How on Earth does the cardinal directions of this game's compass work?

$
0
0

I understand that a compass will show where players are when players are holding it in their hands.

What I don't understand is how the cardinal directions on the compass work. What I currently understand is that the compass' cardinal direction is based on the player's orientation (rotation with Q and E). This is also where the confusion comes into play. If I have the red point of the compass pointing North, that should mean north, right? But guess what, turn your compass around to 180 degrees rotation, North has become South! :o

This means that both players would have to have the same orientation in order to say "Go North" w/o their being confusion (same with East and West). To me, this is counter-intuitive to how a real life compass works, unless I'm wrong on how that works too. Below are pictures of what I mean, with the duct tape facing "North" initially from the first picture.

It's possible I'm missing something or just not understanding this game's compass. (It's most definitely different from a real compass, where the red line always points North).

Since the first one is archived I wanted to open up a new one. I'm also already busy planning new projects and want to rebuild my base a third time. I drew out the layout for my new base and have some other plans.

Also, here is the old one for everyone to take a look. There are a lot of creative bases and projects, so it's worth visiting:
