Any tips for reaching the Ancient Chest?

 I think I may be able to get a friend to go for the event items, but the issue is that neither her or I have ever did well in the Ruins. The farthest I have gotten was after the monkeys where all the broken clockworks are in the maze. I'm really hoping to do it without any god mode type shenanigans, but I'm wondering how on earth I'm going to get us through there long enough to locate the chest.

 

 I'm sure a lot of the forum posters have had these for awhile, so I'm asking for Ruin newbie tips to get in to the chest to get the loyal loots. Thanks for any help. <3

Game crashed upon starting 'dontstarve_steam.exe has stopped working'

I was playing with my friends on an unmodded server and everyone went off so I went to look through some of the mods.  I ended up downloading a mod that gives hunger values on food.  After that I quit the game for the night.  The next day I tried to start the game and then a pop up said 'dontstarve_steam.exe has stopped working' and I have looked everywhere to try and fix it. I have uninstalled all the mods and all the game contents multiple times and I have no clue on what to do.

Most people who play DS/DST right now, will probably not have any idea why both of these games are a sad reflection of themselves for me, but there's no happy-go-lucky way to put this with concerns not being raised.

I have always found it an issue that getting to a point where you can survive by sitting in a base while at the same time grinding for hours on end by harvesting, killing, storing, cooking in multiple crockpots, doing the same menial tasks over and over again etc. in order to achieve and maintain this status, was part of the games. They were there since the inception of Don't Starve, but for whatever reason became the supposed main goal of the game as a result of making a survival experience, despite the latter not necessitating to mean that the former will inevitably happen. Klei have tried in the past way more to add more things to the world to keep this from happening, but at the end of the day, you would get to a point where you are at this position. Now it seems as though they are trying to encourage it, rather than prevent it, and the game being more about the experience of the struggle, rather than standing near a campfire surrounded by hundreds of gold nuggets and gems, while beating every boss like it's your day job. It's the most generic a game can get, this isn't good game design. I mean, what's with the humongous amounts of decorative stuff, optional bosses, gaps in wrapping content well into the overarching game and

The video I linked points out what I believe to have led to such demise into a social club experience rather than a survival-adventure-horror one; players who complain about something being too hard simply because they could not beat something after they had previously gotten used to being comfortable beating everything on the whim and praising and demanding positivity, because apparently there's not enough of that here already. I may be a hypocrite here, in that I have probably done this myself at some point, and I now realise that it was my will at the time to simply gain a "professional" player status quicker rather than being guided and experiencing the game itself, which is what at first I had going for me, and what I am willing to believe got most people into the game in the first place. Exploits don't make a game good, it destroys the experience, we all know it, but many of us are compelled by it, because for some reason, it is to some level ingrained into us that being an elite 1000 day mega-base player is somehow getting yourself immersed with a well-crafted gaming experience.

People argue "it's difficult to implement a system that works well for the game" and while that is indeed true... how is that a detriment for the developers to put more effort into work with the game's design? They develop the game, sell it to us, and we are supposed to expect the most basic and thought-less mechanics that could be in the game? Why? Klei are not inept.

My point is, the fan base seemed to demand a lot of content that went to the detriment of the games, while just mentioning here and there how something could have been better, and Klei gave in. Now they're relying on skins and more skins through a grind-fasted event which, while great to play for a while and is much more seamless and rounded up than the base DST experience and the whole lot of DS, I've noticed that, is ultimately there just for reaping in more cash from the game because they can and not much more. I don't know how well Klei are doing, nobody can, but trying to justify the slow but steady creep into what larger game companies have now indulged themselves into real fast through the idea that the company's not getting enough cash to support the game is sickeningly manipulative.

Really, why should we continue to support the game, if at the end of the day you'll just end up with more farted out content and a bunch of skins than an actually improved experience to the game? Just so it can all be swallowed up, whoop whoop the hype train for whatever else is going to come out and be left unfinished and with half-baked and re-skinned content. I mean, The Forge is going away soon, and that's a moba experience, not a survival-adventure one as the game was and is still advertised as. And what we got from that was, well, basically another boss fight, just an exclusive one. Seriously, what is with the developers and the countless boss-fight introductions? It's just one boss fight after another, have you really ran out of good ideas for this whole thing?

You can call me negative as much as you want, but that's not going to put the games into a position where they are well-crafted experiences. I think it's at least good for one person to speak out about this rather than there being complete dead silence to keep squeaking the wheel of the blatantly obvious cranky ride that is Don't Starve franchise.

The way I see it, it's a perpetual cycle of supply-and-demand between Klei and the fandom, rather than well-designed experiences by the developers to be experienced and critically reviewed.

Inefficient Advice

I've been thinking for a while about some of the more inefficient ways to farm certain items and have been wondering what other people can think of. This isn't meant to troll, just for a laugh or two.

So far I have:

  • Ashes - Tap into your inner Runescape player and build a bunch of campfires, when they go out, you get an ash
  • Living Logs - Chop a bunch of birchnut trees until a Poison Birchnut Tree spawns. Run away for a bit until it despawns, then chop down the tree and dig the stump, which should give a living log.
  • Jet Feathers - Pengulls sometimes drop jet feathers, and if you go to their nests you may find that another mob had killed them for you, and left 1 or 2 feathers.

I'd love to hear your own inefficient advice for this game.

Hi - I’m new to the game and playing on my PS3 so this maybe a dumb question. I’ve been playing for 3 days now and don’t understand what’s the point of saving the game if everything is wiped out if I die.  Is it just in case you need to shut down or am I missing something obvious??. I made it to 6 days yesterday then I died and I started again from day 1.

Ok i was playing forge, when i discovered nice bug. That was at second stage boss, when we got him to the corner. (Normal play game) Because i played woodie i was always boss's target. When I couldnt move i saw something funny, I was behind the wall! I could walk around with no problems. That was funny because i still could be boss's target but he couldnt reach me. This was interesting because i saw this first time and boss just tried to kill me when my team was killing him. I know that we are getting to end of the forge but Klei should fix it? and dont forget that ppl must see it :D.

Why do I get a connection error when I try to enter the caves? I have never had my pc always been able to do the caves without problems ... would it be some kind of bug?

The new Loyal that people got for playing the forge beta is the first loyal that I don't have and I am kind of sad about it. My collection won't ever be complete now. I wasn't playing that much DST and when I read the forum post about hamlet, SW update and the forge I thought they would all be released Q1/Q2 but I guess not. The forge is just an event and it is kind of unfair to give a loyal skin to people who played in a beta event. Maybe the portrait could be given to all forge players as loyal and beta players as timeless, I could live with that. pls :)

Hey, everyone nice to meet you! I've never went on the forums before, and i'm not entirely sure if this is correct thread to ask this in. I didn't see a help section. 
I've been playing for a while now. mostly offline, But a few times i play with friends ive noticed that an enemy will hit you and hes not next to you. Now im familar with this type of phenomnon, But my question is can you fix it so the enemy's attacks will connect at the right spots? Thank you in advance! love this game :3

Is the randomness of war chests really fair?

Now I know many people have already posted topics about similar things, requesting to be able to buy / sell Skins from the forge or even 'Pity timers' so after a set amount of time your chances of getting a rarer Skin is increased etc. But I just want to know if other players find it a good way to distribute items amongst players. Now yes I know many people will just say 'buy the forge set and unravel it' or maybe ' It's random so you get what you get' but I personally don't think it is actually fair. I'm not one of those people who hates the way Klei are developing the game or any of it's mechanisms or content, I understand why they chose a random chance of getting items from forge chests, so as to make sure everyone has an equal chance of getting said item, not favouring certain players over others, however from what I have found from playing the forge both in beta and in the Live version is that the random chance is not something I enjoy.

I play DTS with my GF and we pretty much played in the same groups for the same amount of time during the Forge event and yes with the same chance of Elegant Skins dropping but having done 3 weeks of the Forge live server I've found that the number of Elegants and spools that we have are not equal (which in my opinion is the meaning of fair).. During the Beta I got to level 30 and got 4 Elegants from war chests which I felt was fine but during the live version, in which I am now level 73 I only have 4 Elegants and 3.5K spools while my GF is level 70 has 9 Elegants and 4k spools and pretty much the same number of all the other forge collectables.

Yes there are probably people out there thinking that I am just butthurt because I didn't get as many things as I wanted and people out there who have played just as much as me and other players and got even less but that doesn't detract from my point, in fact I believe it reinforces it, the way I see it is that at the start when everyone is equal because they have nothing and everyone has the same chance of getting the same things (which is fair) but later on as people play and get more items (or not) I don't think it is still is as I think you should get rewarded in line with how much effort/ time / money etc. you put into it not whether you are lucky or not. At the end of the day what it really equates to is 'lucky' people will find it a good system as they feel more rewarded for the time they have put in but if you are one of the 'unlucky' players who didn't get equally rewarded then you've definitely ended up worse off and for no other reason then random chance, and will therefor either have to buy skin sets to get what they want (if they can afford) or just deal with not having things that are most likely a 1 time eventuality and NEVER EVER HAVE THEM, which for some might be fine but for me personally makes me sad and frustrated as I love the game and collecting skins is something I really enjoy doing. 

I would recommend for further events that instead of receiving a 'war chest' after levelling up which could I guess have the equivalent of between 20 and 1800 spools (from unravelling obviously) that players should simply receive spools (similarly to how experience is given out after finishing a round of the Forge) so the input would equal output the same for all players participating instead of it being 'you all completed it but for no reason at all some of you will get more then others, not linked in anyway to how you played or the time you spent'. And with the spools you received you can then weave them into items of your choosing. 

Sorry for the long post that's pretty ranty, I just haven't been happy with the reward system but I honestly believe my idea is a better way of doing it. Thanks.

 

TLDR: NO FAIR KLEI WHY YOU NOT GIVE ME ALL THE ELEGANTS, I'M MUCH BUTTHURT, I THINK YOU SHOULD TAKE ALL THE FUN OUT OF LOOT BY GIVING EVERYONE SPOOLS ONLY SO I NEVER HAVE BUTTHURT AGAIN!

Lore explainations for absurdity(pig theory)

Don't Starves "universe" is a series of connected worlds that, as you get further away from your home world, you become more and more distorted.  I think the prime example to speak about here is the pigs. We see In hamlet what I believe is there homeworld, or at least closer to their homeworld then the constant is. We see a more sophisticated society with trading and clothes And more upright beings. However, as said by maxwell, they moved into the constant to lead their own little society. With this, they became much less intelligent. Hunched over, broken English, and following a king who does nothing for them and wearing grass skirts. We then see the forge, with slightly altered pigs, along with shipwrecked with wildbore. In earth, the pigs have become incredibly stupid, being 4 legged and becoming more animal than ever. I think this explains the humans being weird in don't starve, bones in the beard and having strange abilities like fire immunity and ghost sisters. It also explains why Wilbur is more intelligent then monkeys should be, being able to make complex tools and machines with his own knowledge. Thoughts?
