List of skill tree items usable without having the appropriate perk

$
0
0

In the last (big) update, special containers of characters from the skill tree were no longer possible to open if you did not have the perk associated with them. This was of course a very good change, because now you can't quickly take a perk to a container just to make it and then get rid of the perk. This also shows one of the main aspects of the skill tree in general. Namely, skills and items that characters cannot use if they do not have the appropriate perk activated.
Unfortunately, some items can still be used without having active perks. So, as I wrote in the title of the post, I'm going to list these specific items.

WOLFGANG:
•Thermbell
•Firebell
•Icebell
(Other characters can't use them, but Wolfgang without perk can)

•Coaching Whistle - Although its effect doesn't work when used by other characters without a perk, but any character can still whistle at it. It shouldn't be usable at all if you don't have a perk. The same way Winona's handy remote works, for example, which can't be used without a perk.

Wendy:
•Wraith's Wreath (Any character can use it. Including drinking elixirs)
•Ghastly Experience
•Luminous Wrath - Because it works without a perk, you can do a combo like Shadow Abigail with a lunar elixir effect.
I don't think that's intentional.
•Cursed Vexation - Same thing here, but in form of Gestalt Abigail with the shadow elixir effect.
(Other characters can't use them, but Wendy without perk can)

Woodie:
•Hardwood Hat
•Wooden Walking Stick
(Any character can use it)

Wigfrid:
•Elding Spear - Any character can equip this item. It shouldn't be that way. Without the perk, the spear shouldn't be able to be equipped.
•Commander's Helm (Any character can use it)
•Battle Saddle - Any character can equip this saddle to a beefalo and ride it while it is equipped. Both of these options should be disabled. You don't have the perk, so you can't ride a beefalo with the battle saddle equipped.

Winona:
•Rose-Colored Glasses (Any character can wear it) - You shouldn't wear them if you don't have a perk.
•Portasol (Any character can equip it) - Even though characters without the perk can't use the portasol to teleport, they can still equip it. They shouldn't have the option to equip it at all.
•W.I.N.bot (Other characters can't deploy it, but Winona without the perk can) - This shouldn't be the case. If Winona doesn't have the W.I.N.bot perk active, she shouldn't be able to deploy it either.
•All Winona portable structures (Teletransport Station, Catapult, Spotlight, Generator, G.E.M.erator) -Case is the same as with W.I.N.bot. Winona, despite not having an activated perk, can still place these portable structures.

Wormwood:
•Syrup Of Ipecaca (Any character can use it) - Any character can feed it to a mob or eat it themselves. If it were possible to code it, then characters without a perk shouldn't be able to feed it to mobs or eat it.

Wurt:
•Skeeter Bomb
•Fertilizzzer
•Blood Shot
(Any character can use it)

•Communal Kelp Dish
•Superior Communal Kelp Dish
•Shody Tool Shed
•Less Shody Tool Shed
•Armermry
•Superior Armermry
(Other characters can't use them, but Wurt without perk can)

Walter:
•Flutter Strip (Any character can use it) - In this case it is rather intended that every character can use this item since there was a change at one time where the item only gives sanity if you have the perk associated with it. However, I think this item should not be available to all characters. Only Walter with the activated perk should be able to use it.

So that's all I wanted to say. Thanks for reading the post.
I am also attaching a screenshot of all the items and structures mentioned here in case someone doesn't recognize them by name.

Void Masques might be the single worst thing to ever be added to this game

I just had a group of masqued bunnies spawn, kill my penned in bishop, and when I attacked the bunnymen to try and protect that bishop, the rabbit king spawned. Why the hell does the rabbit king spawned for possessed bunnymen?

First there was the rock lobsters reproducing bug, then the fact that they didnt despawn and would slowly clog up your world, and there's still this stupid rabbit king who might as well be a budget bee queen if her loot was god awful and useless.

Winona's New Skills

Not sure this is the place for this but did not know where to post this.

Always played Winona, never saw her as a swap character... her new skills are awesome and on that note... it would be nice if the developers improved these two aspects.... if she can pick what wormhole she travels to why is this not an option in her teleports?? It seems silly since it appears that the mechanics are there?

Another thing is that when Winona teleports, she can bring anything around her... WHY NOT a player standing next to her??  I don't think this is breaking anything since she already brings the close objects with her and you have to be Winona to use any of these.

So, where do we go next?

Okay you gotta admit that the game is kinda complete right now. Content needing to be filled is filled mostly, the community isn't sure where are we going with this game at this point and questions of balancing keep popping up with some valid points.

I myself like how DST is right now and it is in a very comfortable position content wise, we basically have all needs met to deal with all challenges. There's nothing more. That's an issue.

What do we do?

Nobody knows at this point. Klei can make DLC world gens if they wanted to and it would be pretty cool. We could have different scenarios, harder more balanced mode for veterans, etc.

But, like, do ya'll think there's nothing more needed for the Constant? Recent gear we were introduced to feels more like endgame reward to finishing the game. Much of it feels very strong and versatile so much that it beats basically most bosses we would encounter often.

I dunno. I feel satisfied with the state of the game. I would enjoy having one or two quirks and things added and changed but nothing more feels necessary. Maybe we need something new and bold from Klei, something different enough to shake up metas and even gameplay loops. Things that would put veterans on toes and have new players engaged and interested more.

That's my little ramble at least.

Alternative way of getting grass tufts: Gecko Shavation.

$

I've seen a lot of groups declare they want to quit on seeing a grass gecko world in recent memory, so I just got a concept for trying to alleviate this by making geckos a clever source of plantable grass tufts.

  • Sleeping geckos can be snuck up on with you being able to shave their grass mohawk to get a grass tuft.
  • Geckos which have been shaved are slower and less motivated than geckos that haven't been shaved, they don't give grass when they run away for a while and are more vulnerable to predators due to their loss of speed.
  • Unlike the fast regrowing gecko tails, the mohawk takes 15 days to regrow.

With this, in worlds which seem bad due to a lack of grass tufts people are at least able to get starter tufts by taking the pan flute from glommers statue down to a gecko herd to get a sizeable number of quick and easy grass tufts, allowing the player base to be started even in worlds where doing so would be slow.

While I can enjoy gecko worlds a lot personally, its difficult to play them when groups quit out due to personal taste/other gameplay issues this doesn't solve (Like not finding grass for a night one light source....)

I can't start a server with caves on. "Dedicated Server Failed To Start"

Basically what the title says. I tried every suggestion I could find on the internet (making exceptions in firewall and antivirus and other stuff), but it still doesn't work. I compared my server logs with my friend's server logs (his game works fine) and the only difference I could find was in Caves/server_log.txt and it was just that it couldn't connect with master:

[00:00:34]: About to start a shard with these settings:
[00:00:34]:   ShardName: Caves
[00:00:34]:   ShardID: 4187261425
[00:00:34]:   ShardRole: SECONDARY
[00:00:34]:   MasterHost: 127.0.0.1
[00:00:34]:   MasterBind: (null)
[00:00:34]:   MasterPort: 10888
[00:00:34]: [Shard] Connecting to master...
[00:00:44]: [Shard] Connection to master failed. Waiting to reconnect...

Might I add, that it works fine without caves and I can start the server normally.

Thoughts and feedback on a small suggestion about the labyrinth?

Would fossils appearing in ornery chests be a good idea? I think it'd make the labyrinth hold more value rather then just a time sink of nagivating, and make an alternative, and renewable way of getting fossils. Is this dumb for a reason I'm noticing? I feel like this would just be a nice addition.

What settings do you use for your megabases.

What if Woby is Them

I've been thinking about it and it doesn't make any sense why Gru or Maxwell would ever drag a real dog into the constant. Sure they aren't the greatest but that's not something they'd personally do. The only explanation I have is that Woby isn't actually a real dog but rather some kind of Them-like creature that the constant conjured up with their stuff and things. Personally I think Woby is a similar but more advanced creation of mobs such rabbits and bunnymen but unlike them you can't see their true form through insanity.

Jimbo begs for a rework

Balatro Machine — the most absurdly powerful structure in Don't Starve Together. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge fan of this game (I even own a legit copy on Steam). I took a break from DST for a while, and in the meantime, I was busy buying jokers and raising the ante. Honestly, Balatro is seriously addictive. I logged into Don't Starve, collected my gifts, and rushed into my world to find that one-armed bandit. After playing a few rounds, here are my thoughts:

• In fact, you can choose absolutely any joker if you constantly use the exit button

• The rewards feel way too overpowered for a 30-second minigame.

• The game can start even if you’re being chased by a horde of hungry hounds or nightmares. It’s not annoying, just weird — but then again, it’s Jimbo, who lives for epic spectacles.

No cooldown means you can spam it endlessly until you drop.

Now about the rewards

They’re way too broken for just a minute of playtime. Take bananas for example — a food that normally only becomes abundant by the second in-game year, but now we’re getting them in bulk from the first day. And we’re not even risking anything since the enemies Jimbo sends after us turn into a picnic for Webber and Wigfrid. Seriously, what’s two hounds and a spider gonna do to me?

I think this machine needs a rework. Here’s what I’d suggest:

Replace and buff the enemies to make farming them less trivial. Hounds could be swapped with spiky ones from the theater, spiders upgraded to cave spiders from the Labyrinth, and bees turned into Grumbles.

• Change bananas to something else. I don’t want them to lose their value.

• Add a daily play limit or make it cost rare tokens and offer a selection of jokers that refresh once per day to prevent abuse via the exit button.

Overall, I enjoyed this little crossover, but it’d be even better if it got a rework.

I haven’t tried it out much yet, but visually it looks like it belongs in the caves.

There are monkeys in the cave, so fits the circus theme.

"Nothing worlds", and how Jimbo revolutionizes them

$

A "nothing world", for the uninitiated, is a world where you turn off every possible thing in the world settings. Current nothing worlds were something of a nightmare with the way world settings works nowadays; you can disable world regrowth and such, something you weren't able to do before, so you couldn't even get wood outside of rare setpieces. And in all incarnations of nothing worlds, you necessarily had to play multiplayer; having multiple people pick Webber and drop eggs so that one could farm them for meat just to be able to persist in the world for more than a few days.

But that all changes with Jimbo!! Jimbo, a setpiece which is (currently) unable to be disabled, not only gives you a relatively safe and easy and instant access to large amounts of food (so much so that I couldn't ever hope to eat it all, when testing), but also GRASS! Grass has always been infamously difficult to get in nothing worlds, but it's easier to get than ever before. Not only does this make nothing worlds possible to play entirely solo, but you also don't even need to play Webber anymore! Which matters a lot because you can now pick Wickerbottom, and because you can get papyrus from the Moonquay island, you can craft the light book (Lux Aeterna) which causes earthquakes in caves! Cave earthquakes spawn rabbits, which means you can get beard hair and actually fight the rabbit king, which means you can even make rabbit hutches. Not to mention the prestihatitator which, as Wickerbottom, would even allow you to make tier 2 magic items if you used her Everything Encylopedia book. As far as I'm aware, there's no other way for any other character to cause earthquakes in caves in a nothing world.

I've been thinking about nothing worlds a lot recently, doing all sorts of testing to see what is and isn't possible in them. I do actually think it's possible for non-Webber characters to survive indefinitely on the current patch in a nothing world without use of the Jimbo machine, but you'd have to get extremely lucky; it would involve finding the pickaxe setpiece, picking some ground-twigs (and ground-gold, for later) and mining a cave entrance for stone and to make an axe and then running into one of the rare tree-spawning setpieces, and then chopping enough to make a science machine and boat kit, and then sailing to the Moonquay island fast enough to not have starved to death 30 minutes ago, and then surviving off bananas and respawning powder monkeys. Because mandrakes still spawn and there's a lot of carrots to be found in the caves, the chances of pulling this off is better than it sounds, as it greatly extends the otherwise very short time you'd have to do all of that.

Some bonus info for those who aren't aware, since I think this is a rather niche subject (especially nowadays):

-The reason the Moonquay island is so powerful is that you can't really turn off anything that happens there besides the portal. Bananas, trees, monkeytails and powder monkeys still spawn and operate completely normally. The ruins is very similar, almost everything there still operates as normal but it's a less desirable place for the obvious reasons.

-Spiders don't properly respawn in dens in nothing worlds. They only repopulate if a den changes level (even if it levels down via shaving). This makes surviving as Webber significantly harder than it would be otherwise.

-It's not possible to access the celestial tab at all. Meteors will never fall, so the celestial orb will never become available. All three altar pieces on the lunar island do actually spawn, but there will never be a single fissure to put them in, so you can't assemble it (there's no setpieces that involve fissures either, I checked)

-If the treeguard circle setpiece attempts to spawn, you don't get the treeguards but you still get the trees. It's kinda funny. I believe the spider queen setpiece also spawns trees without the spider dens, looking rather similar. Evil trees still spawn as normal.

-It's theoretically possible to make pig houses due to setpieces containing pigs, but you'd have to get very lucky to get enough pigskin from them.

-As there's very little use for panflutes, eating the still-spawning mandrakes is actually a really good idea, as they restore large amounts of health and hunger.

-Nothing is stopping you from killing the Ancient Fuelweaver in a nothing world. All required items and such will appear in every world. I'm not sure anyone has actually done it legitimately yet, though. I suppose I'll try to be the first.

-With the new update that changes the atrium tenta-piller, you can get lightbulbs in every world; lightflowers are a part of that setpiece.

The wolfgang conundrum.

This always just makes me think of how interesting wolfgang can be.

This is leg day which is a 10 percent boost but its a multiplier so it affects everything normally a warsaddle beef cant be used to do this fight because it is too slow to dodge the rook. but with default wolfgang it can. But then i hear you say well you cant do 2x damage But like you can...
you just need to have a beef horn setup so you can end up doing 2x damage on a beef. only sad part is that that method at max can only really last 20  seconds since the beefalo horn follower aspect only lasts for 20 seconds.
I feel like there needs to be a way to make beefalos become friendly for longer other than just the beefalo horn.
since the bell doesn't make it a player follower its only a follower to the bell.

is this doing a similar thing with something else in a round about manner yeah it is. But ive always enjoyed having other methods of play.  and if this enables me to make beefalos worth while on wolfgang why not.
more ways to play a boring character should be welcomed. That and also being able to lock mighty gain in this situation. maybe do it like how wigfrid only gets the minimum vampirism despite how much damage she does on a beef. Make it so that wolf only gets minimum mighty .25 a hit.

SOMEONE IS CRASHING PUBLIC SERVERS

$
0
0

I was playing a US West Klei server just now and someone in chat said they were going to crash the server and then I got disconnected shortly after. I tried to re join the server but it said server not responding. I asked around and its suspected that an individual known as Invictus is responsible. This person owns many many dozens or more accounts and would join servers in the past just to grief them. So it only makes sense that this person is now crashing servers.

The reason he has so many alt accounts is to remain anonymous and to also avoid being kicked. He joins a server with some alts so he can out vote the other players trying to kick him.

All of his alternate accounts are private and level 1 so that is how you know its likely this same person. The person who crashed the server was level 1.

So if this doesn't get addressed then Klei servers are simply unplayable while this person is active. Apparently people have tried to talk about this person in the past but nothing came of it. I hope to spread this knowledge with the Pc player base and hope the devs or Steam can do something about it.

Bearge won't spawn.

$

Bearger comes, I kill him, he transforms into armored bearger, he thens attracts a bunch of tree guards and I let him kill them. I'm there watching, but suddenly bearger starts approaching my 100 statues on my moon stone setpiece, he breaks the walls around and my buildings and stuff, so I rollback. After rollback, there is no armored bearger anymore, the treeguards are alive where he was, he simply disappeared and the tree guards are not aggroing anything.

Fast foward now, it's been three years that bearger announces, but he never shows up. This autumn now he warns his presence around 7 times, but he always fails to spawn.

What do I do to fix this? Is this even a bug? Has anyone had this problem?

Bearger screams, my character do their quotes, but he doesn't show up, 2 days later the same thing, over and over.

Okay, I found a way an fixed the issue. I used console command to 'gonext armored bearger', and I was at the place he should be with the treeguards around. I then removed all entities around me and tried the bearger announce, he showed normally no problem.

so basically bearge was invisible and immortal for some reason.

Server ping is not shown (just like a ???) in 95% servers of the game

$

Good afternoon, everyone!
I recently noticed that 95% of the servers in the game do not display ping, instead three question marks (???) are shown in the ping section.

This is the case not only for me, but for all the people who play dst that I know.

I think this is a very serious problem that requires code-level intervention, as it prevents people from seeing and finding each other in the server list.
You can check this by opening the server search and going a little lower: there will be an abyss of servers that no one will ever find. There are people playing "Dont starve Together" alone, and it's terribly sad.

I found a lot of emails on the forums about this, but they all went unanswered.
Does anyone know about this issue?

Yours sincerely, Atelas

Question for late game enjoyers

What is your go-to item layout you carry around for everyday tasks? Do you ever use the shadow maul? Is there something you think could be ditched for more inventory space or is everything basicially essential there?

I always felt like backpack with bundling wraps + ropes and food + healing is an unbeatable combo for any stage of the game after killing beequeen. It's heping to maximize efficiency of not needing to go back to base so often and still leaves you with plenty of inventory space
