Ok let's say in an alternate universe where Wilson doesn't exist, who is the new face of Don't Starve?

I'm bored and I asked this somewhere else so I wanna give a hypothetical. Say in an alternate time-line Wilson doesn't exist, or at least isn't the "main character", who's your pick as the new protagonist for Don't Starve? And what's your case as to why you picked them? Any reasons, story, gameplay, personal bias, all allowed, so long as you have a reason for em.

 

Some simple ground rules for this:

1. It has to be a playable character.

2. DLCs/Multiplayer exclusives are allowed, so long as they're playable.

3. Whoever you pick is allowed to exist in both games, so you don't have to change your answer if your pick is only in one of them.

4. Given his role in the story, you can't choose Maxwell (sorry Maxwell stans).

the only aspect i'm bothered by when skill trees are in play, is that once you get the insight once... you just kinda get unlimited right power outta the gate

so, i've been experimenting stuff myself, starting out with only a set amount of skills and then unlocking stuff once enough time has passed/i achieve one "goal" i've set myself. and honestly? it's been way more fun than starting with all 15 points

what i had in mind, mainly, is that you start with 5 insight

that's enough to get some gameplay altering skills, such as one of woodie's curse masteries, a handful of lighter skills for willow, energy-saving + whatever you want for winona, for wurt... um... i dunno what's good on wurt (i don't like playing as her), etc.

and to get more insight, you either sit on your butt waiting for them, or you go out of your way to get them faster! such as: findin' the ruins, findin' the archives, turnin' on the archives, goin' to lunar island, visitin' pearl, etc. although, each insight wouldn't reset the timer for points, so you'd still get stuff from waiting! (or they'd increase it by a small amount, so as to not be too fast)

and to not undervalue the shadow alignments, maybe they could be unlockable from the start? since they're mostly aimed at early-game

so. thoughts?

With October, and a new Intermission & preview coming up, what are your predictions?

We have one more update for the remainder of the year, with confirmation that at the very least there will be new skill Trees. I'm just curious as a vibe check what people think the new content/qol will be, in addition to which characters will get skill trees.

Personally, Survivor-wise, I think the next contenders for skill trees are:

  • Warly
  • Wendy
  • Walter
  • Webber

They've all been the longest without character updates by a decent margin. Of these, I think Wendy + Webber and Walter + Warly. Though I also wouldn't rule out us getting a  batch of 3, with the combo of Wendy+Webber+Walter. I think Hide & Seek as a short could influence the outcome, though I don't know in which way, because it released only a month after Winona got her skill tree. Walter & Webber also got a set of skins in the past update, so their chances might have decreased slghtly assuming Klei is trying to pace character skins.

Edit: Warly is actually due to get a Merrymaker skin this update, and I have doubt he'd get both his merrymaker and archaic in one update, indicating to me that the Pair is Webber&Wendy.

In terms of content, after the last 2 updates focused on Megabasing QOL and Ocean QOL, I think this last update will focus on QOL for menuing and worldgen - viewing/selecting insight out of a world, additional worldgen options, maybe a new Trade in minigame....

Either way, whether it's this week or next, I can't wait to see the intermission.

When was the last time Hallowed Nights got new potions/new mechanics? When the lunar island fell 5 years ago. We've had a lot of cool stuff added since then, what are some cool potions/world changes you'd love to see?

Been using it a lot to deal with the 12-15 Deadly Brightshades that spawn non stop inside my base and it’s kind of weird that it uses 15% on 12 strikes combined with the Enlightened Crown to kill each plant, sucks even more when the 1% instantly breaks the weapon and doesn't shoot anything. Made just to be extra annoying or an oversight?

Basically I just want to share my recent expierence) Maybe you can share yours.

I've decided to play as Warly because he seems interesting and I don't really have long-term survival expierence with him. Also, I decided to spice my playthrough by making rifts opened from the start.

I wanted to rush the ruins but not for tulecite. My goal was hunger-belt. Aaaaand it was hilarios.

- first time I've just crafter armor, prepared lots of food and went for slurpers, when ickers jumped at my head and luckly they haven't killed me, but my backpack with food and ingridients was stolen. I've tried to fight for it but they regen. I run for bunnies help, brought 4 but... it wasn't enough and my weapons broke. I've starved literally there lol.

- second time I've decided to be more careful and walk on the edges but then the trio appeared and started chasing me. I had no armor. I was running for my life when icker just jumped on my head and killed me.

- third time... I've tamed a beefalo, but when I came to slurpers, the acid rain started and I had no any protection so I went outside. 

Currently the winter came, I still don't have my hunger belt. I burned the deerclopse corpse to avoid it's turning into the lunar version. My garden is in constant risk of lunar inhabitants. But at least I'm alive lol. Also I've tried to summon rabbit king to trade with him so I could tame rabits in caves easier, but each time I summonned it it was rabis rabbit and it chased me almost killing (luckly I have a reeds trap so I lured him there both times).I think he was angry because I had meat food but anyway that was unexpected and funny.

That's it, I recommend to start the game with rifts open for more hazards)

This year we get 4 updates instead of 6 like we got last year. In exchange, these updates were supposed to be more substantial and more packed. Two updates have been mainly qol, One of them a skilltree for 2 characters (which many people really dislike wurt's skilltree).

I really don't see how the updates this year have been more substantial than last year.

If this last update is another qol focused update I think many players will lose interest and it has been going that way for a while now. Almost all english speaking servers are deserted nowadays, if the steam player numbers are true, china and russia must make up like 95 percent of the playerbase.

Judge me all you want but I never saw the appeal of Wanda, I know her strength and how fun it could be to main her long term with all her clocks but she just doesn’t click with me (I don’t even own her). I also never played WX despite loving their design and power, which bear with me, is gonna change when their skill tree comes around (Reason being I never really seen WX as a character that would help much in a group as I play a lot with friends, they seem like a lone wolf kind of character). And lastly Warly and Walter, I tried them once and never touched again (Don’t like Warly’s playstyle much and I find Walter lacking charisma). Skilltrees are completely changing my mind towards this issue however. I can’t wait to see what Klei cooks!

Petition for Offline/Online World Toggle

Can we please petition Klei Devs to consider adding an Offline/Online World Toggle for save files.

It is unjust that anyone should be deprived from playing their save file if they temporarily lose internet access.

It is an anti-consumer feature and should not be accepted in its current form.

Klei has an outstanding reputation and this is tarnishing that.

please do better klei. 
 

 

 

Could the Fuelweaver fight just not have nightmare spawning?

as the title says, i find the fight to be one of the better ones in the game had it not been for the nightmares rng in despawning as well as spawning when player goes insane to deal with unseen hands. 

the fight is fast paced, and there are methods to slow it down but when something that has that much health spawns, it will make the fight snowball into fuelweaver healing back to 10k health, everything is controled chaos except for the nightmares spawning, and it doesn't fit the fight either as every attack fuelweaver does, he shows it to the player, while the spawning itself is just part of the rest of the game.

Hi

As you probably know in Don't Starve Together is Pet mechanic. You can adopt pet by craft them near Rock Den, but do you think it's a little forgotten?

Last new pet was added in november 2021 in crossover with Terraria - it was almost 3 YEARS AGO, after that we get skins for pets... And I feel like Klei could add more pets in some QoL update, you probably want ask - why? It's a very simple - just for fun, and new pets could have a little perk when they're full like Mothling is shining when it's full.

 

There's a lot pets that could be add to game, some examples:

  • Shader - Mini version of Fused Shadeling, crafting from 1x Pure Horror 1x Fist Full of Jam (it should imitate Dread Mite I guess xD) - this mob can absorbe miasma, also it reduces range from shadow aligned mobs will start attack you. Custom animations could be so scary and maybe Shader could hide for a while in other objects almost like mimic? (it's shadow aligned mob)
  • Friendly Gestalt Pet - Mini version of Gestalt, crafting from 1x Pure Brilliance 1x Wet Goop (I had no idea which crock pot dish should be here), it's similar to friendly gestalt from Celestial Champion's Crown - this pet could be usefull cause player with this pet needs to be hit by gestalt three times to fall asleep, also it reduces range from lunar aligned mobs will start attack you. Custom animations should be a dance with owner, and when Friendly Gestalt is hungry it could scarry as and try to attack us (but it's only bait, it will always miss it, also it's lunar aligned mob too)
  • Crustacean - It's a mix of mini crab and crustashine, crafting from 1x Broken Shell 1x Barnacle Pita, little crab, and I think this is controversial, but I think if we go close Pearl (Crabby Hermit) with this pet and let them play together for a while, Crabby Hermit will get another friendship point, also custom animation like dig into ground to hide to play with owner :D
  • Moonkey - Mini version of Powder Monkey, crafting from 1x Accursed Trinket 1x Banana Shake - it haven't any perks, but Moonkey has a custom animations with boad stuff like Moonkey could dance in mast or looking around, looking inside Tin Fishin' Bin, help us with roll up Anchor Kit etc. I think it could be so SO cute stuff for salty dogs <3

Make a building out of Rabbit King Cudgel

If the Rabbit King Cudgel can't be used to summon the nest at any time, then perhaps it would be a better option to use it as a material to make a permanent building that can be connected to the nest at any time, like a magician's chest, and the Burrowing Horn is used to summon at any time, so that we can at least make the Rabbit King Cudgel a little more useful

Could it be possible to let Slurtle lose life when it eats Salt Crystals?

In real life, slugs and snails cannot retain moisture in their skin when they come into contact with high concentrations of salt, resulting in dehydration and death. Could we make Slurtle and Snurtle suffer consequences for their gluttony? Salt Crystals cannot be dropped by earthquakes; they must be carried by players. There will be no cases of Slurtle dying inexplicably. Perhaps we could make it so that Slurtles killed by Salt Crystals always drop Shelmet, since they are dehydrated from the inside out, and their shells are not subjected to any impact that would cause them to break into Broken Shells.
 

Maxwell Skill Tree Idea

So this is Maxwell's skill tree idea, as the title says.
I've put the numbers so I can write down everything related to them without any confusion.

1 - Now Maxwell can craft nightmare fuel in cost of his sanity. Maxwell cannot craft nighmare fuel if he has not enough of sanity. It will happen probably with special animation when Maxwell will open Codex Umbra and grab nightmare fuel out of it. 
2 - All spells (including shadow prison and shadow sneak) last 25% longer.
3 - All spells (including shadow prison and shadow sneak) last 50% longer.
4 - Shadow prison now deals AOE damage after it expires (probably 10 or so for each pillar)
5 - Now shadow sneak applies shadow-flame debuff that deals twice as more damage than regular fire, and attacks dealt to mobs with shadow sneak effect, have 25% more damage.
6 - New spell. Now Maxwell can summon a row of shadow spikes that deal AOE damage. There's a cooldown for this spell, for about 3-5 seconds.image.png.34a7f782e64126c124f6032d5fc1674b.png
7 - New spell. Now Maxwell can summon shadow cloud that he can use as a mount which increases his speed by 10%, it allows him to carry heavy objects and travel across the sea and void. Shadow cloud lasts for about 2 minutes and has a visual warning before disappearing.

8 - Shadow Affinity that opens after Ancient Fuelweaver has been defeated. Allows Maxwell to enhance his Codex Umbra. Now Codex Umbra casts all spells 50% faster and has 25% chance to not use its durability percentage. Codex Umbra will have additional reddish effect which will show its Pure Horror state. Similar to the one that the Trawl Net in DS shipwrecked has. The more expensive/strong spell you cast the more durability it will lose.

9 - New spell with pure horror buffed Codex Umbra. Now Maxwell can get additional 25-50 hp which will fill his normal health icon with pure horror. It will last untill a proper amount of damage is dealt to Maxwell.


10 - New spell with pure horror buffed Codex Umbra. Now Maxwell can use shadow shield spell to protect himself and others. You open your inventory, choose the spell and then Codex Umbra drops from your inventory. It will spawn a spherical shadow shield around the Codex itself. If it's being idle, it will last for 20 seconds, and if the damage is dealt to the shield, the Codex umbra will lose its percentage durability. The shield protects the player from any sources of damage. You cannot charge Codex Umbra when It's casting the shield but you can pick it up which will stop the spell from being casted. When Codex Umbra is about to lose its durability there will be a visual warning.

11 - Shadow Duelists buffed with Pure Horror with new reddish and black visual effects. They will deal additional planar damage, will have planar defence and more health.

12 - Maxwell and his Shadow Duelists will deal 10% damage to lunar aligned creatures.

13 - Shadow Duelists' damage is severly increased.

14 - Shadow Duelists' attack speed is severly increased.

15 - Shadow Duelists' damage is slightly increased.

16 - Shadow Duelists' attack speed is slightly increased.

17 - Shadow Servants buffed with Pure Horror will follow the cursor instead of working in a particular area, so you can use your full potential as a puppeteer. They work faster (their animation is fastened up like Woodie's one), have more inventory slots and will be picking up items even if your inventory is full, instead they will drop items nearby the player and won't pick them up anymore.

18 - New spell with pure horror buffed Codex Umbra. When you use the spell, Codex Umbra drops from your inventory and spawns shadow vortex under itself. The shadow vortex will start sucking items in, in particular area. When the spell is being casted, Codex Umbra will be losing its durability with small percentages but quickly while the spell is being active. After it collected all the items it could, player can open its inventory which will consist of 9 endless slots similar to the ones that elastispacer makes in a chest. You can't put anything in it but only take from. The Items will not disappear as long as they are in Codex Umbra. The spell will be active for 10 seconds.

19 - Shadow Servants' work radius is severly increased.

20 - Shadow Servants' efficiency is severly increased. They need to hit the tree or the rock less times to mine/chop it.

21 - Shadow Servants' work radius is slightly increased.

22 - Shadow Servants' efficiency is slightly increased. They need to hit the tree or the rock a bit less times to mine/chop it.

 

 

Feel free to comment on it, maybe add more ideas and change the current ones ^^

Icker Preserve Kit issues

Icker Preserve  Kit:

Cost - 5 dreadstone, 3 icker blobs

Portability? - No

Slots - 1

Accessibility - Post-rift

 

Bundling Wrap:

Cost - 1 wax paper, 1 rope

Portability? - Yes

Slots - 4

Accessibility - always, when you want to

 

 

Yeah, it is SLIGHTLY more convenient because you do not need to rebundle stuff afterwards, but really, who doesn't bundle up ropes with their bundled items to rebundle it instantly afterwards anyways? The downside is almost nonexistent.

It makes no sense for the Icker Preserve to be so weak and so expensive at the same time.

 

Shouldn't the gel the food is stored inside dissolve it, and then using shadow magic reconstruct it when you want to pull it out? The mechanic would make the slots for the stored item infinite. Although the food would be covered in the icker goo I guess? Making the food give 5-10 sanity less.

Using Elastispacer on the item to make it infinite does not make sense, since Shadow Magic and Lunar Magic do not play along.
