Wurt skins are unmatched

$

Wurt in my opinion has the best skins in the game currently, and im always super excited to see what skin she gets next. Theres still a couple of collections that Wurt has not been apart of and I decided to do some concepts for future potential skins. Wurts skin potential can be incredibly diverse and i honestly had a blast designing these.

What kinds of skins would you like to see for Wurt?

DST atmospheric noise, sound and ambience.

I think DST needs more of this stuff, it engulfs you into the world of DST it makes the world feel so alive, maybe have one for each biome, the sound of a falling leaf, the sound of mushy marsh, maybe it even has some gameplay purpose, like if there a tentacle nearby you will hear a mushy tentacle sound, you would hear a sound of a rabbit running in a tunnel when you stand close to a rabbit hole, even some kind of atmospheric music like BOTW.

Unique mechanics that may be a bug.

So Im typing this in here because I am currently working on a tips and tricks video for wendy.
From the years I have played as this character I have amassed some tricks that players may not have noticed And I would love to share them.
However Im worried about shareing them.
Because many times before I have shared a trick to make the game easier it gets patched out as a bug due to it being "unintentional design."

one common one in the past I shared was that you could hold a lantern in your mouse cursor and hold another item in your hand slot. so you could use a lantern and either cane or a weapon at the same time.
this was patched out  so that equipping an item in your hand slot while your lantern was in your mouse would turn it off
This makes sense.
Recent updates though also changed it so lanterns in your mouse hand does not give light anymore
Which why i don't understand why they took out. It was just a silent patch.

But you can see my problem with wanting to share knowledge.
I understand patching out bugs that are game breaking and unintended Like being able to walk in the void using gates

However there are some small patches that really make me not want to share information  Just because I fear The information I want to share is a bug that gets patched out.

What do you guys think?
Should certain quirks of the engine stay if they do not harm players or make the game look broken?

Should Klei start a DST board game?

On kickstarter, I mean a lot of people these day are starting to make board games about their product so why shouldn't DST do the same?

If you want it Why?

Why all the Nerfs and Grind?

$

Realizing how much is gated from before with the sheer lack of modules you can actually install, it's frustrating to say that I don't ever want to play as this character again. But why? Why nerf him to this point? He didn't need nerfing! Neither did Wickerbottom, but now 2 of her books are basically useless! Wolfgang although has lost the general speed boost has stayed about the same in overall utility in the end.

But you know who's never getting a nerf? Wanda! Arguably the most powerful character in the entire game since she was introduced. Not a huge benefit early game, however the Alarming Clock very early on in and of itself is nothing to scoff at. And of course mid to late game she can just teleport to execute anything in her path even quicker. I don't expect characters to become on par with Wanda but at least really darn close! She is fun because of the game mechanics she has, WX was too until this massive nerf. I don't agree that the change was good with people who say it was, just because it introduced a somewhat interesting mechanic of modules. Being able to absolutely break 1 or 2 aspects of the game if you play well with a character is a massive part of what makes it fun to play as the character. Some may even argue that characters as powerful as Wortox are not all that useful long term, and this is a character that can periodically teleport, has an easy way to heal and gain hunger all in one! If you continue nerfing characters further on to this degree, I don't see what point there is to playing the game.

It's always lack of specific types of polish that really turn excellent gameplay mechanics into a grind even when you rework them and if the long grind in the game is set by design so we have to spend hundreds of hours to get anywhere continuously with no ways to make it faster, instead of you looking for ways to mitigate that as much as possible, then I don't think there's much respect left for me for Klei. Oxygen Not Included does things almost perfectly yet again we see grind halt in it, and at no point is taking out the grind of waiting for building a 20x20 setup mid to late game for you a priority (such as mech having suits for dupes that would allow them to carry much more and build faster). Some basic buildings like tempshift plates, insulated tiles and for some odd reason the critter feeder take forever for a duplicant to construct despite having high skill in doing so.

In DST in mid, late and even END game:

* Farming crops takes forever and you have to do way too much farming to get a decent yield (you removed Applied Horticulture, there are no automated ways to till or water crops, you can only have one fruitfly in the world and it's slow).

* Preparing for a boss takes forever because so many things have extremely low durability (why the hell do I need more than one ice staff for a full boss fight like Crab King in the first place? It's all so I have to grind to collect gems and other resources to craft it, there is no other reason).

* Getting some resources for fair bit of base construction takes forever (anything that requires boards is especially annoying to get through with the dozens, if not hundreds of trees you need to cut down, even if you just want to make a dozen chests to put stuff in as opposed to dropping garbage on the floor).

I would love to see you prove me wrong on this or you'll just end up proving me right. I don't want that, I don't think anyone would want that, but I have yet to see effort on this front being made. Or just keep the grind and taking more of what little fun is left out of your games. There's a reason neither of your most popular games ever get played to some level of conclusion by anyone particularly popular, and it isn't because these games are niche, it's because they are a massive grind to get through all the content. That's the reason why people who do stick with the games, have hundreds or thousands of hours in the game, not because of lots of engaging content that would actually take that long without it. Rarely anyone actually achieves the supposed ends of these games, and the fact is it is doable, you just have put way too massive of a slow and annoying time-sink into these things.

Many other games in similar genres to these don't take anywhere near as long to finish! Even rage games where losing hours of progress is extremely easy don't take this insanely long to finish! What's your excuse? It's not only that people may not want to spend so much time just to have a little fun, it's also that many people don't even have the time sink for it. If I've played for 200 hours in a game and I still have not completed pretty much everything there is to do and I can't do it extremely effectively at that point, maybe that's a bad sign of intentional grind like in "free to play" games, or just horrendously bad game design. You could very easily cut all the unnecessary grind like picking individual pieces of grass 10 hours into a single run. Making powerful characters is also one very key factor for this. This is how Wanda ends up being so powerful, and there's no way you don't know that, it's a character you unlock with in-game currency or buy outright.

The Lazy Forager for example still can't be refueled with nightmare fuel, despite the fact that pretty much everyone agrees that in every conceivable aspect it should be a thing, you know it would make a big difference, but you've done nothing with it for a very long time and I suspiciously wonder why.

Hey everyone! I noticed that there's a buttload of new memes and no place to put them. Post them here for people to see (and so we can stop clogging up the puzzle thread). Enjoy!

Edit: Also, the memes don't have to be Maxwell themed. All characters are welcome. This is merely a sequel of a previous meme thread.

Has this been happening to any one else?

Please note: I did not start playing until after the first bug fix for the update was released. I've started two separate worlds as WX-78. In both worlds I run across more dead survivors than I do as other characters. And one of the first few always seem to have a rabbit trap and rope. I haven't messed with the settings either. This might just be a coincidence, a very lucky one, but I was wondering if anyone else has started a new world as WX since the refresh and has had this happen?

One big problem

Ok, I'll get straight to the point.

The seed of a world.

Through the years when I wanted to save special or bizzare worlds, I looked up on how to find the seed and replicate those same worlds. Needless to say it was a pain in the pig skin to say the least.... It's 2022 and I wanted to ask here if after all this time the method got better or if someone can explain better on how to do it. I would really appreciate, after one of my friends founded a fantastic and cool speedrun world. It would be a shame loosing it  :(

I think the new crafting menu can use some more work.

So after a long break I come back to check out the new WX update. First thing I notice is, it now takes me a long time to craft just about any item. I realize it is not easy to fix all issues but nonetheless I will bring them to the dev and see if they can improve upon what we have.

1) Please add 1-click crafting option

Say when I click on the pickaxe, I expect the game to start crafting right away. However as of now I have to double click to get the crafting started which feel strange. This is probably because in the old crafting system 1 click = crafting.

1742988831_DesktopScreenshot2022_04.24-21_09_22_26.png.5fbd7892509b8eaea3dab9898fa52b77.png

2) Option to enable Drag to manage Pin-pages

I think this will make adding/remove/swapping icons much easier. Like if I want to move the torch/campfire/axe down 1 tile and place the pickaxe at the top, I want to be able to just drag the pickaxe to the top, and the game can automatically move the rest of the icon drop 1 tile. Currently I will have to remove all icon from the menu and then put them back one at a time.

3) Easier to switch between different "Tabs"

So before I just need to point my mouse pointer to the tab, the items listed under will show up. Now I have to click on say "light sources" first, then I have to double click the touch-icon to craft a touch. That is like 3 clicks to get a touch. I think this is just way slower than the old system.

 1794087015_DesktopScreenshot2022_04.24-21_29_48_90.png.ce17cef7b2b4738e8ff01134806c70ff.png

4) Better default Pin-Pages.(May be?)

Like right now when I start the game, the default Pin-Pages is just a few random items in the first 3 pages and then thats it. I think this is much much worst than the old crafting menu. Sure given enough time playing with the Pin-Pages players can make their own pin-pages. However I don't think I am getting there anytime soon. So after playing for 2 hrs I ask myself how would I want my Pin-Pages done. Then I realize I just want it to looks like the old way because it was way easier to go to the tabs then look for a torch or a weapon when I needed it.

Build your own skin chest?

$

Before you start reading: I do know you can weave skins individually, that you can get spools from Klei points and skins from daily and weekly drops; and on top of this that you can buy certain bundles which give more spools than others to amass them (which is what I usually do) but it takes time to unravel all of those items, and I would definitely be more inclined towards buying more skins if I could choose which ones I'd like to get.

So I was looking at the shop and saw many item skins that I like, but to get them i would have to pay for the entire bundle. Are there any plans (or has this ever been discussed) to create customizable skin bundles? Would they be profitable? I have no idea, but here's my reasoning.

The store could offer different tiers of custom bundles, which offer a specific number of skins or skin sets. In essence, I could buy the first tier of customizable bundles and choose any character skin set + any elegant / 2 spiffy item skins. For example: any Victorian skin set from any character+ a Forge S1 item.

The second tier could allow you to pick 2 skin sets + 2 items. And so on... Or they could even let you pick ONLY character's skins sets, or ONLY items.

Each tier would cost more depending on how many skins you'd like to get, and they would cost more than buying the entire bundle. For example: The WX deluxe wardrobe bundle with 5 skins sets costs $10.99, but a custom bundle with 5 skins could cost 15-ish or so... I'm sure klei can check what price would give them more revenue, I have no idea and I won't pretend I know about making a game's microtransactions profitable. What I do know is that I'd pay more to get 5 skins that I actually like instead of less for only 2 or 3 skins that I'd use + some spare spools.

This is kind of implemented with characters, as you can get the skins individually, but there isn't a way to buy the items, and you don't get any benefit from buying them this way. With custom bundles however, you could get a small discount for buying a bigger bundle (Instead of buying 1 skin, why not 2 + an item with an X% discount?)

The starter packs (which offer skins from different skinlines + a few items) and the "X's deluxe wardrobes" (which include all of the reworked character's skins) are a great way to add diversity, but you still don't get too much variety:

Starter packs are great for newcomers, but the problem with them is that, even though you get the new item skins, you may get a repeated skin. For example: I got the 2019 starter pack, but I already had some of those skins.

And the deluxe wardrobes are great for people who always wanted to have the tradeable skins but wouldn't want to pay the steam market price's. But again, they don't solve this problem of getting more varied skins, as you only get skins for 1 character. (In a custom bundle you could get 1 skin per character, all from different skinlines, Example: GoH WX-78 + Survivor Wendy + Triumphant Willow and perhaps a few items)

TLDR and in case it wasn't clear, what the bundles would allow you to buy is:
-Any ITEM skins + character's skin sets (As I stated: Any Victorian skin set from x character + a Forge S1 item)

-Multiple ITEMS skins from different sets (IE a Forge S1 item + a Hallowed Night item skin)

-Multiple characters skin sets from different sets (GoH WX-78 + Survivor Wendy + Triumphant Willow)

All of these chosen by the player AND with increasing costs (and discounts) the bigger the bundle is.

What the custom bundles would NOT allow you to do is:
-Mix and match character skin sets (You can't buy a Wickerbottom set with a Victorian head + a forge outfit)

-Buy a character's head with any other character's outfit. (Any Wickerbottom head + any of Woodie's outfits)

Anyways, I just wanted to know if this was ever discussed, what is your opinion on it, and all that... If you'll excuse me I have to go back to unravelling forge repeated skins from back when the bundle was on sale :wilson_dead:

Introducing, Klei Rewards

We are introducing a system that will allow players to collect "points" on their accounts by doing various things like subscribing to our Youtube or following us on Twitter and then use those points to get items. Currently we will be using this to distribute our out of cycle Twitch items rather than selling them as we had previously suggested. This allows players to get what they missed before or just get them without going through Twitch.

The first version of this can be found on our accounts page here: https://accounts.klei.com/account/rewards

In the future we will update the rewards program with new ways to earn more points and pick up cool rewards they may have missed, or even possibly entirely new stuff. Let us know what you think!

Hi all. The old topic was archived in early 2017, but I thought it'd be a good idea to bring it back. There have been a ton of content since and quite a bit of skins. Personally I really enjoyed the Victorian collection but others were good as well. Well, if you got any cool outfit sets you wish to share - post it here!

Should DST be harder? If so, in what aspects? If not, why?

I always find myself wanting more challenge or fear for and in some aspects of this game. For me, its sanity. As it stands, most people including me pay no mind to sanity as we do not care about going insane (its just extra nightmare fuel) cause we only have to fight the occasional shadow creature and sit through a mild headache. I would love to go into detail, but I want to here what you all think should be harder, if anything.

[Bee Queen Strategy] Wilson Tanking With Maze Next To River

$
0
0

This is an okay strategy but is possible for any characters to do since Bee Queen usually (90% of the time?) spawns near to water.

The upside is that it requires little skills, and the battle is fast.

It costs 8 marble suits, 5 beekeeper hats, 12 pierogies, 1 hambat, 60 fences/walls, 1 gate, 10% panflute, and a boat.

demo

It can accommodate more than one player by adding extra room at the end.

Spoiler

1214596387_Screenshot(226).thumb.png.38fb602fcad2cf80893cd460516dd1ae.png

It can be further improved with bigger maze and better weapon. For example, see spoiler.

Spoiler

This setup cost 6 (or 5.5) marble suits, 3.5 beekeeper hats, around 120 fences/walls.

179051992_Screenshot(227)63.5.thumb.png.2cadd0b98a5b31679d37c96e41324ebd.png

After grumble bees can no longer get stuck at the entrance of simple mazes (because of the new patch), this is the next best thing, I think. The basic idea is to lower grumble bees' attack frequency by making them travel extra distance. The distance inside first maze in the video is about 30, the distance inside the maze in the spoiler is about 66.

Using dark sword instead will improve the efficiency by 12%. For example, it will cost 5 marble suits and 3 beekeeper hats in the setup in the spoiler.

Eating vege healings will improve the efficiency

This setup is lethal to Wanda, don't try, because Wanda's healing can be interrupted by any attacks, which makes it impossible for her to get full 8 ages from using ageless watch.

some tips:

1. (Very important) In creating mazes, make sure there are a straight path of at least 8 walls at the end near water, so that grumble bees don't fall back into maze and have to travel from the outside of the maze.

2. The timing of eating healing is crucial. Failure of doing so will cost you durability of armor. That's why non-meat healing food are far more superior.

(I tried locking bunnies in the middle of the maze, far from bee queen, to kill grumble bees that passed by, it didn't improve the efficiency).

I'm building thing based on ideas already exist out there (tho I don't know who to credit to).

Do you know any game mechanic that could not be very popular, you use for your advantage and could let us know?

For example: If you feed a pig x4 monster meat and kill it, you get 2x meat and 1x pig skin; two out of three ingredients to prototype hambat, also, you can repeat the process to get pig skin without destroying pig houses.

WX-78 Refresh Available On Steam, Xbox and PlayStation Today!

$

0

The WX-78 Update is available now on Xbox, PlayStation and Steam. Nintendo Switch will be getting this update in an upcoming update.

We're working on a large update to catch Nintendo Switch up with all platforms now that it's released with the goal of keeping it updated in line with them. Stay tuned for more details specific to Nintendo Switch.

Disconnected

After the wiring to their long-unused empathy module is repaired, WX-78 finds themselves suddenly reconnecting with memories they’d hoped to keep buried.

WX-78 Changes

  • WX-78 can create circuits that can be installed to unlock special abilities.
  • WX-78 can unplug their circuits by utilizing a Circuit Extractor. Unfortunately, this means losing any charge that the circuits were taking up!
  • WX-78 learns how to construct circuits by scanning organics with their Bio Scanalyzer.
  • The Bio Scanalyzer also produces Bio Data, which is used to create circuits, alongside material from the scanned organic.
  • WX-78's circuits are powered by their electrical charge meter. The meter restores itself over time, and can also be restored by other means.
  • If WX-78 gets too wet, they begin losing electricity. If they run out of electricity, they begin to lose health.
  • WX-78 also loses electricity when they are starving, as they no longer have the energy to maintain their charge level.
  • WX-78 can eat gears to regain health, sanity, and hunger. If WX-78 dies, they will drop some of the gears that they have eaten.
  • Clockworks are less aggressive towards WX-78.

Additional Changes

Spoiler
Spoiler

Misc.

  • New HUD effects have been added for when learning recipes.
  • Improved creature AI when a group of creatures are running together.
  • Reeds will now regrow during Spring after having been burnt.

Wurt

  • The Clever Disguise now lasts for 15 days.
  • Abandoned Merm followers will now return home after some time.
  • Merms now play a hungry animation when their loyalty is low.
  • Feeding Merms will now also improve the loyalty of a few nearby Merms.
  • Merms no longer tolerate their leader murdering a fish.
  • Merms that are followers will defend other nearby Merms when they are attacked.
  • Merms will stop mining and chopping if their leader gets too far away.
  • Merms no longer get hurt from eating kelp or durians.
  • Frogs are no longer aggressive towards Merms.
  • The Merm King’s eating animation duration is now based on the quality of the food.
  • The Merm King now gives bonus Gold Nuggets when given an ocean fish.
  • The Merm King now gives Cut Reeds instead of Rot when given a fish.

We have decided to revert the mouse targeting changes from the March 2022 Quality of Life update regarding attacking enemies and repeating actions while the mouse button is held down. These will now behave as they were before that update. We will be working to bring them back when they can spend some more time being tested internally.

  • Actions like harvesting grass with the mouse have returned to require clicking each one instead of holding down the mouse button.
  • Repeating actions where you use the same item, such as cooking on a fire or feeding Beefalo are still functional.
  • Combat targeting with the mouse button has returned to the state where you must completely stop attacking before the target can be changed. Fixing this is a high priority task.
  • This should also resolve issues around holding F to attack, delays between attacks, and some crashes.
