Cooperative Play Setting, Everyone Has Individual Bases

Thought this might be fun to try and it was a blast, the idea was to make it more challenging than a single base model and it was!   The only rule is that you have to create your own base and transactions are done through a barter system (which is leading to a universal currency).    It isn't strictly a model of "everyone goes there own way", people do go on joint ventures on a voluntary basis.  Watching how everyone sets up their base is enthralling, some opt for lavish setups and designed set pieces, others go the minimalist route with less attention to orderly design.

What was interesting about this dynamic is that players who were conditioned to the single base model weren't always prepared for every exigency as they forgot that they were responsible for everything.    Another fascinating component is the "price" of goods in the barter system, one person values 40 grass as 20 wood and vice-versa.   Gears of course buy you quite a bit.   Gold at first commands a very high price then it diminishes rapidly.    The basics for barter don't change too much though, they are grass, wood,  and silk (not so much twigs) because "farming" them is labor intensive.      

The other serious challenge is Deerklops in the early phase, a wrecked base can take 20 days or more to rebuild (especially when you're in the wrong season).   

Most valuable item is (as always) the walking stick, and the essentials for the first winter are of course tents, thermal stones, beefalo hats and sewing kits.   Miss any one of these and you workload goes up exponentially.    

We are doing this scenario in a large world setting, doing long solo excursions to explore are tricky as its hard to pack enough gear and deal with hound attacks simultaneously.    Players who focus on that too early risk working from an underdeveloped base which leads to trouble later when winter hits.

At the moment we have 4 dedicated players but the server has six slots, in the next week or two I hope to fill the last two.

  • Mini Glaciers placed during World Gen will no longer dry up permanently.
  • Mandrakes now have a chance to drop from Klaus’s Loot Stash.
  • Bundling Wrap is now learnt from a Blueprint dropped by Bee Queen (or Klaus’s Loot Stash).  Players who have already prototyped Bundling Wrap in existing Worlds do not need to learn it again.
  • Beefalo will no longer walk away from you when you are trying to carry a heavy object onto it.
  • Fixed bug where Ancient Pseudoscience Station sometimes respawns incorrectly during ruins regeneration (currently only triggered by running c_resetruins()).
  • Optimizations for particle and sound effects on objects such as Torches.

Surface eartquakes?

Hello, I was playing with a friend and something that we had never seen before occurred. We were at the base, there was a loud noise and the ground started breaking (Screenshots below), when one attemps to walk over this broken terrain the character walks very slowly and with an animation that seens like hes being carefull. This phenomena occured twice (the second time like 2 ingame days after the first), each time at the base and left like 4-6 circles of bloken terrain per occurrence. I have several questions, why did this happend? is there a way to avoid it? can you fix the terrain? are we doomed?

I tried to find information elsewhere but to no avail. English is not my main lenguage, any correction is welcome.

How to prevent wildfires in an existing server?

I've never noticed the Wildfires option on worldgen, and now I wish to get rid of them in my existing world. Is there a way to do this? I've tried typing TheWorld.topology.overrides.wildfires = "never" in the console but it doesn't seem to work (TUNING.WILDFIRE_THRESHOLD is still 80).

    “Overheating, freezing & Sanity”

This guide focuses on the most effective - for me - ways of overheating and freezing which are safest and could be cheaply produce to have the same effects. Why do you ask? Well because global temperature will change accordingly towards the four seasons which will tamper the player's own temperature. But why the need of going overboard just to overheat or even freeze yourself? Well there are certain dress items that mitigates resistance towards global temperature as well keeps the player's temperature on a slow rate. With the combination of these two aspects, you can at least prolong yourself before overheating (in summer) or freezing (in winter) becomes a situational issue.

Additionally, it gives a new form of an effective and quick sanity regeneration using mobs and inanimate objects with their sanity auras.This is especially for Wickerbottom players which wanted an easy way to get out of insanity as they fill out her maximum sanity without fail and in quick succession on the safest way possible.

This is for new players and veterans alike.

Give the amount of time you spent playing Don't Starve (Together), you've probably wanted ways for a quick temperature rise or drop. Only because your dying constantly or only to be annoyed that you can't even get out of your own fire / endothermic fire. Well I'll give a simple way of cheap overheating or freezing that other consumables can't even achieve.

One fire isn't quick enough to your taste right? Well let's make it two fires since it's arguably better than one right?  Simply, yes. Well one fire in the maximum output can get you to overheat/ freeze, two fires on a medium output can still overheat/ freeze as well. This is useful in conjunction to dress wears that mitigates and keeps temperature.

This form can arguably be improved and lead to "temperature machines" for an easy overheat or freeze.

"Sanity"

Well if you're a Wickerbottom player, you know the struggles of shadows trying to kill you and the hardships of filling out her sanity slowly and surely by that Tam'o shanter you got from dear old Mactusk. Well what if there's quick way of sanity regeneration in under two minutes that your Tam can't do on two minutes? Well then again, it is possible using entities walled together and then lured from the bait set up. Feed them with morsels, eggs and carrots and your 2 minutes to reach maximum sanity begins.

Another thought of mine especially is about the Bee Queen Hat, which converts insanity aura into half of the sanity aura to be gained from it. Bunnymen, rabbits, treeguards and werepigs are some safe examples to get yourself free sanity. Evil flowers too are effective for being stationary and compact.

And if you want the opposite, it works on that side, just be careful.

How is it: Life without Extra Equip Slots

Hello,

The problem I described under the spoiler (lots of text). So this is short version of topic: please give us comments about your play style.

  • I will never prefer anything to my wonderful backpack! (armor sometimes)
  • I'm always using hibernation vest, puffy vest, breezy vest, summer frest, hunger belt, amulets and other stuff instead of backpack (krampus sack is for unorganized people :D )
  • I'm using Extra Equip Slots and I'm able to use anything I want in game!

This is not suggestion actually, because I have no idea what to do with it, but without Extra Equip Slots Mod, lots of features in game are useless for you. I'm playing without mods and I love to visit official Klei public servers (There's no mods installed). The problem is: I can't use all those things in game like: amulets, jackets to control temperature (Breezy vest, puffy vest, raincoat, summer things), hunger belts and lots of other. I guess no one will prefer Hibearnation Vest to 8 backpack slots with thermal stone in it. And especially to Krampus sack. It makes Bearger killing pointless.

At the same time Extra Slot makes game much easier: you can just put armor to your slot and you will never accidentally die of tentacle; It's much easier on boss fights, cause you're not limited by usual inventory and you don't have to craft armor on the go; and also extra slot with armor helps you a lot in ruins; eyembrella can be easily replaced with raincoat and rain hat in spring (Never ever crafted them). 

I know, there's some useless things in Don't Starve (watermelon hat, ice cube hat etc..) and stuff like that is normal practice, but still...

Well, i just would like to be able to use all game contents. I think here's lots of people also disappointed by the fact. You will never see anyone on public server without mods wearing puffy vest, excepting newbies. 

So I would like to ask community what do they feel about that?

This game really needs some automation

Many actions have to be repeated many times when dealing with many items, and currently it requires one mouse click per item. This usually results in boring mouse-clicking for a quite a long time. Many games have implemented a way to deal with lots of items. i believe DST needs this as well, especially since it's multiplayer game where people collect way more stuff than single player would ever do in DS.

I tried to make up a list of actions which need automation, provide examples as well as include possible solution.

a-c apply to 1 and b-c apply to 2.

a) Cooking over fire. Most frequently it applies to cooking monster meat to later turn it into eggs. Imagine that you have to click on fire X times for all X monster meats u got.

b) Feeding something to a bird in birdcage.

c) Giving pigking meats & trinkets for gold.

1. Doing action related to structure. It could be done via holding down space button while also carrying items in hands (outside of inventory) standing next to the structure.

2. Picking items returned by the structure. Here, I suggest to make those structures return items directly to player's inventory instead of dropping them on the ground, because ultimately they all will have to be picked up by the player.

(I know that it can also be improved in many ways, especially through modding, like making some kind of dispenser which automatically does the action related to structure it is placed next to, as well as gather items returned by this structure.)

3. Crafting items which are often needed in large amounts, like ropes, boards, cut stones, gunpowder, tooth traps, walls and so on. Possible solution would be adding "Build All" button next to "Build" one. In this case players will have to be cautious to drop stuff they don't want to be crafted, though I believe it will take way less time than manually clicking "Build" button to craft every single item.

4. Harvesting farmables. I can't come up with simple solution, rather than using lureplant, even though it requires special spacing for farmables, due to relatively unpredictable pattern of eyeplants spawning. So, one idea would be making new item crafted from lureplant, that will somehow harvest stuff within its woking radius without eyeplants (possibly using animation like shadow stage hand coming from the ground).

That's all that came into my mind as of yet, feel free to reply in comments if I forgot something. I hope some of those will be addressed, especially since we have been shown that developers actually read feedback, taking into consideration the fact how quickly they fixed lantern exploit after just single person reporting it comments section.

For some odd reason I think of this character as one played by little kids and after a quick skimming of its attributes thought it wasn't that much of a bargain.    Well.. finding gears isn't hard and I got up to full strength (and rebuilt a base twice) within less than 90 days.   Rain?   Not a problem, draining when you already have 300 isn't a concern.   Lightning is a wonderful bonus and the unreal health of 400, where to start with that.   In short, this is my character, you feel invincible at full stats.

He sat in the darkness, utterly silent. There was nothing to be seen around him, as if there was nought left in the world but this. The chair he sat upon, and the humble table that lay before it. Adorned with carved pieces of fine wood, lined atop a slab of fine checkered marble. A chessboard. The black army was his, yet the white was without lead. Across the table there was nobody to be seen, nothing to be seen. But the match was already in progress, and he was already losing.

He sighed, staring down at the board. “I hate this game.”

 

The nothingness around him stirred, a chorus of hushed laughter arose in the darkness. “How unfortunate. You are destined to play. Just as every living thing.” a voice replied.

“Life isn't a game.” he retorted sharply.

 

The chorus erupted once more into laughter, the table shaking from the cacophony as it pulsed within the darkness. He closed his eyes, tensing at the torturous sound until it slowly faded. “Existence is nothing more then a game of lives. They stand at their places, performing their roles. Wading through chance and strife, until they are struck down. Tossed into oblivion, replaced with a gleaming new successor.

 

He opened his eyes once more “Yes, I have experienced first hand how you treat your pawns. But when the game ends, the king and the pawns are placed into the box all the same.” There was a moment of silence, as though they were lost for words. Until one of the white knights began to move forward across the checkered tiles. “We are... beyond the scope of the board. Not the pawns, nor the knights, nor queens have any hope of taking us.

 

He looked at the emptiness across the table, refusing to play his turn in response. “And what are you? Every piece has a name, what is yours.”

 

We were never given one.” another voice answers as a white bishop slowly moves along the board, taking a black knight. The piece thrown into the air, spiralling into the darkness until it fades into the nothing. “But what of you? Do you truly believe you were ever a king? Or just a pawn in regal garb, drunk on the power of granted authority.

 

“How would you know anything about me.”

 

We know everything about you. Nothing but an awkward, miserable man; struggling to find a reason to exist. You were never very good at making yourself happy, but then again, neither was the rest of the world. And so you believed, if you could make other people happy then perhaps they would make you happy. Fame, fortune, friends, family. Surely, one of these was enough for you.

But you could not do it could you. Failure was what you found. It only took a small boost however, to get you on your way.” the white knight moved forward once more, taking a black pawn as it was swept away from the board.

 

You are just a parasite. Feeding on me, feeding on everybody for your own gain.”

 

Is that not what you did? You brought us our meals, because they were yours as well. You were king of the world, and you enjoyed it. When given the chance, you enjoyed tormenting others just as we.

 

Then perhaps we all deserve to fall to Hell.”

 

We are in Hell. The closest possible to imagination. We are all of the suffering, this is all of the suffering. The world you now live in, it is nothing but a personification of fear. Of agony. What better imagining of a tortuous purgatory could be conceived.

 

You do yourselves an arrogant complement.” he replied, watching another white bishop cross the board. The black army gradually being overtaken now. “But tell me about your Hell. Prove it is all that you claim it to be.”

The white bishop stopped amidst its move as silence returned, Held for so long, he began to worry, until finally another voice spoke.

 

They wanted to know more. So much more. They were lost, terrified, ignorant. They wanted salvation, truth. But it was not to be found. And as they looked to the sky, they saw that it was too far from grasp.

So they dug. Burrowing deep into the earth, blindly searching for truth. For wonder.

They never found what they were looking for, but they believed it was somewhere within. They were creative, fraught with ingenuity, building from what they found. Devising new things, which they hoped would lead to their truth. But their inventions were nothing more then fleeting tools.

 

But some of them believed, that the only way they would ever be free from fear is if they removed it. Instead of searching for truth, they decided to remove their need for it.

It was many ages before they built it. The first machine. A merger of science and magic alike.

 

 

They designed it to be; a filter, for the mind. All those bad thoughts. The fear, the doubt, the anger, sadness. The machine would drain them away.

 

And it did.

 

All of the bad thoughts were taken away, and it distilled within the machine until it dripped into a most foul ichor. They fuelled their own devices using this wicked substance. Turning their suffering into a physical boon. A fantastical transformation. But this was not the only one. They failed to anticipate that, their horrors would come to life. When drawn from the mind, when given an independent physical form, their nightmares lived.

 

Their entire civilization fell, and the machine clotted and broke down. Falling into disarray, its power left unbridled. Twisting the world around it. Drawing on the minds of all those around them, the machine tore apart the essence of consciousness and spattered it over reality.

 

 

The world became a medley of dreams, horrors and imaginings. Fantasy and reality became alike, dreams bleeding unto each other. A wonderland of utter disorder.

Personified nightmares. So that is what you are. And nightmares require hosts.”

 

Yes indeed... but that is not all to this play. You see, the machine holds this world in balance. Without it, the stitched fabric would be fall apart. Revealing the pallid reality underneath.

This requires new sources of imagination. Without it, the machine would run dry.

 

And so you lure in new fodder for your madness.”

 

For many ages now. Cast into the wilderness, the hapless children are left rendered as mere dolls in our world of chaos. And as they struggle to survive, the machine drains from their minds. Fuelling its network, the sweet ichor distilled into pure dreams. Holding it all together, coagulating into new creations.

 

You make it sound beautiful. Yet you exploit it. Using it as a trap for unwitting misfits to fall prey to.”

 

The damaged. The weak. The strange. Their minds drip with the most potent wonders for the machine, and for us. And of course, every flock needs a shepherd to hold it in order.

But we give them new purpose, a new world to endure. A better world-

 

But why are telling me this. Why reveal the secret of your weakness. To one of the very contenders seeking to escape your grasp no less.” he interrupted, staring directly across the table towards the nothingness.

 

Because you are already losing.” a new voice responded as the last of the white pieces slid into place. He looked down at the board, the black side reduced to nothing but their king. Backed in a corner, surrounded by white army. “What will you do? Destroy the machine? Loosening the stitches of the world you now live in, causing it to collapse and sink into the brine. Banishing the nightmares and their fiendish ploy, sacrificing yourself and all those trapped alongside you?”

 

William, do you really believe you could ever be anything but a failure.

 

If I ever accomplish anything of worth in my life. It will be proving you wrong.”

 

The unlikely protagonist. Setting out on a journey to overcome his weakness, facing an impossible foe. Against all odds and reason, his troubled past haunting his steps on his way to challenge the daunting villain. A fantastical tale this will make.

But you have lingered for too long. It is time for you to return to your place on the board.

Sleep well. And remember, do not starve out there.

 

 

He awoke upon a bed of grass, the sound of the crackling fire nearby. Bathed in soft wavering light, as he lay surrounded by the shadows of the looming woods.

He sat up, opening his hand to find the black king resting on his palm. Clutching it as he turned and cast it into the campfire.

Caves - PLEASE help me!

Yo guys, thank you so much for opening this thread!!

So recently I started playing DST with my friends, and oh boi oh boi, we've created a server and played untill day of 38, and we forgot to turn of the caves. We created a lot of stuff and it would be a bummer to restart from the begining just so we can use the caves. 

So my question here, can I somehow enable them?

Hello everyone, when i play dont starve, I like to play using the personality of the character I choose, but what this means? 

I usualy play as wx-78, and this is what normaly happens: I end up being hated by people that doesnt undertand what Im doing, sometimes some people call me troll too, but in the end of the day, I always have a lot of fun and make one or two friends that get the joke

Best diologues list:

"aleatory player dies" 
me: death, a natural human mistake

"entering the game" 
me: hello fragile bone and flesh humans

"when people talk a lot in the chat"
me: I hate all of you, except this webber (refering to my frined, that always plays as webber), do you know why? because he is not human

me: I would be sad if i could feel something

What do you think about it? Did you see someone making these too? Was funny? Am I wrong? My sistem says no, because im not human.

Antlion not giving warnings

After three summers, I can say for sure that of the three times that the antlion spawned, he only gave a warning twice on the first summer.
The other two times he spawned me and my friend were on the base and things simply started crumbling under us.
Also the second and only time he gave a warning on the first summer, the sinkholes appeared in less than 10 seconds, giving us no time to leave the base.


Is this a bug or the antlion doesn't always give warnings? The warning happening less than 10 seconds before the sinkhole is a normal behavior?

Bad community

KLEI I am disgusted I was banned  of server  strictly Unprofessional  for no reason aparent. Two players found a camp, then they started insulting me Because I was in his camp and Then they got me kicked out. I do not speak english for that reason i could not defend myself. Bad community racist and xenophobic.

Please add an option to Health Scale depending on players

Things like Bee Queen and Toadstool are completely inaccessible to servers with 1 or 2 players. This needs to be implemented. Make the boss difficult to solo, but possible to beat. Klaus is balanced... why not these other two?

Hello there, I recently got Don't Starve Together and I was wondering if anyone has some good tips for me. I can only get around day 8 if I'm lucky usually. Can I have tips for getting food easily, and finding the gold nugget boulders, and how to get lots of sanity. Thank you! P.S I know my name is DontStarveStar, I just couldn't figure out any names lol.

So i tamed this beef and i got the rider one.

only thing im worried about is that the server is 24/7 open so will i constantly need to place salt licks for him to keep him tamed or will he be tamed forever??

What happens if i dont put any salt licks into his pen? will he just turn into a normal beefalo again?

Maxwell... the miner ? yyy what?

So in single player DS Maxwell is my favorite character. He is an interesting person, this "dark" occultist who has low health but can regain sanity very, very quickly. This leads to some fun changes in gameplay that I really enjoy! He also can summon shadow puppets -  but this is something, that I use occasionally.

In DS Together first thing that comes to my mind about this character is...miner. Why? Because people playing him mainly do that & yeah, how can I forgot - they also chop trees. Really a shadow puppets extravaganza. They do that ofc because his sanity regen is not very high --> so now he can become miner or lumberjack...

He was a cool magician remember ?!? What happened to him ;-(

Do You guys have some tips on how to play him now? (maybe I missed something).

If not, please write how do You think he should be changed.

I myself, would propose just this - make his sanity regeneration higher / faster - so instead of miner, he can become a magician.
