So I have a pacified spider den near my base. I found Chester and brought him back to base. At night the spiders are still pacified when I go over there and check on them. BUT as soon as they wander over to base they go feral and attack Chester. Does this mean that protection from spiders only extends to other survivors and not Chester? Anyone else been having this problem?

Idea for next update and character.
I remember being told that Klei will rework sailing in the game. I'm not sure if it was true or not. Might be just a rumor. But that got me thinking,
In case we are going to have a sailing/ship rework. What if we get Woodlegs being added into the game alongside with it? It would be pretty cool I think. He would be reworked of course and not be added in his original state. Woodlegs could have many ship and sea related perks allowing him to build useful structures on ships. Perhaps craft some kind of exclusive ship that goes faster and is more durable.
Considering all the sea related updates we got, it would be a nice addition to have a sea focused character that is able to assist his team or himself by making sailing much more easier and less of a headache.
What do you guys think? What kind of perks would he have?
NEW Streaming Drops Available Now! (The Rockjaw Sail )
Do we have any clear evidence that the figure being pulled inside the portal is 100% Wagstaff?
The true identity of Webber's father (SPOILER)
Let's start from the beginning: in Webber's short film we can clearly see, during Webber's childhood, his father:
It doesn't take a genius to grasp the obvious similarity to Woodie:
Both have caveman foreheads, orange hair and beards, and wear suspenders.
Now, some might argue: But webber's father seems so smart!! Woodie is stupid! Wait and listen...
Back to Webber's short film: as you can clearly see, Webber has become the monster he is after experiencing the "side effects" of Wagstaff's demonic machine:
Webber's father (Woodie) would have become a Werebeaver NOT for a generic curse ... but because of Wagstaff's invention too!
What an ironic fate, Woodie became a chimera like his son in the end!
And Lucy? Lucy would be none other than the spirit of Woodie's deceased wife. Which wife? THIS wife -->
At this point, Woodie, since he was a man of great intelligence, went mad: he had lost his wife and child, and had been turned into a monster.
He cut his head, became a fool and an idiot and found in the hermitism of the Canadian forests the only salvation from madness.
It would also explain Woodie's hatred of birds: Webber probably wanted to play with his father to catch them (as well as butterflies and insects) but Woodie, when he still could, never played with him. And the vague memory of it makes Woodie hate anything that flies.
This is the story of Woodie: a man destroyed and mentally annihilated, who sought the only opening in dementia to not go completely crazy in the face of the horrors of life. Congratulations Klei, for having brought Don't Starve back to the horror and nihilistic dimension of its origins.
Edit: Licet_insanire pointed out two things to me:
1) The fact that Woodie doesn't have glasses makes perfect sense: he lost them during one of the first transformations; and the stupid expression is because he is nearsighted.
2) Lucy, when alive, had red hair. And Lucy's predominant color is red. I don't think it's a coincidence at all.

The Webber rework is awesome!
Hi! As an avid enjoyer of Webber's personality and appearance but never previously his gameplay, I'd like to add some positivity to the sea of Webber complaints, as I feel that he's finally gotten the gameplay I always wanted for him.
Rather than go through common complaints and try to make rebuttals to them, I'm just going to describe what I like about Webber and why I've been having so much fun with him over the past couple of days. Idk exactly how to format this, but I'll try my best.
Spiders as followers:
So, in the past spiders were like any other follower. You give them some meat, they follow you for a bit, and then they get bored and go home. Now, though? Spiders will NEVER lose their loyalty to Webber unless he leaves the server or travels to/from caves. There was one particular spider in my most recent session, a Depths Dweller I brought up to see the sunlight, who lasted from day 3 all the way to winter. Through fights with other spiders, with hounds, with pigs, with goats, all sorts of things, she trucked on through all of it, only kicking the bucket when the entire Klei Official did, I assume cause of the recent hotfix.
So what this means is that from the moment you spawn in as Webber, you can plant your spider den and have 2-3 permanent followers trailing behind you at all times, which you can quickly grow into a larger army once you find a forest. And spiders are super useful for all the general combat you'll be doing early game, Speaking of...
Spiders as fighters:
Spiders are absolutely AWESOME fighters! I'd compare them to Pikmin in that they aren't supporting you in a fight, they're the ones doing the fight. With the 10-20 spiders I usually amass early on, I can just walk up to something, press F once, back away and wait for the spiders to get an attack in, and then stand directly beside them holding spacebar so I can grab the meat instantly. The only time I'll lose any meat in this situation is with stuff like koalefants and beefalo that explode into items on death, but I'm fine with a bit of spider tax in the case of me not having to do anything but press F a single time. I have to imagine that AoE might make short work of a spider horde, however I can't think of anything that really has aoe aside from rooks and bosses, the first of which isn't super common to fight and the latter usually having anti-cheese built in for anything except catapults anyway.
Nurse spiders:
Nurse spiders are everything I could have wanted! Getting one is a bit of an ordeal, but after you do even just one seems to be enough to keep your spiders constantly healthy. I had an experience where a frog rain started happening to me and a friend while I had my spider horde behind me, and we were sure it was going to be the end of things, but... with just the one nurse spider to heal, we got through two players' worth of frogs with barely any casualties! They're a fantastic addition and one I can't wait to play around more with them in future worlds.
The Webby Whistle:
The Webby Whistle is an amazing tool that I get a ton of usage out of. There's not much to say about it I suppose, but I've really taken to whistling outside of a tier 2/3 den in the middle of the day and befriending only the warrior(s) that come out. Being able to get them during the day and without attacking the den is really awesome!
Also, they're cute!
I don't know how to end this post really but I'm loving Webber, he's like a spidery little Captain Olimar and that's exactly what I wanted out of him!
Are spiders high or something?
Do they need to smile all day?
Option to Switch off Smiling Spiders, plz
After Webber's rework spiders can smile to indicate they are friendly. Some players may find this facial expression cute, but many are creeped out by this. To me, original spiders are ugly-cute in their own way, and I don't like these new smiling faces at all.
3 reasons why it's unfit. First, friendly spiders keeps smiling during battle. They chase and attack with a smile! This is so confusing. Normally, you would expect them being angry, so a smile in such situation is emotionally unacceptable for me.
Then, spiders smiles in a weird way. A big smile like this with the mouth wide open requires many muscle parts to work, so usually, it shouldn't last long. In other word, these always-smiling spiders give the impression that they are forced to open their mouth rather than they are happy, which is weird. (Even Webber doesn't do the smiley face all the time, you know.)
Third, the transform from smiling animation to hissing(or smiling/attacking) feels very divided. This sudden face-swap is uncomfortable visually, and it feels ugly, rough and somehow very cheap.
One more thing from the point of gameplay. Although it's a way to distinguish friendly and regular spiders, it's not necessary. Option to turn off smiling spiders won't be game changing, plus it should only take effects locally, meaning that setting it to off will leave your teammates who have the option on unbothered.
In conclusion, I prefer the original not sliming spiders, befriended or not. Yet, using smiley face to distinguish spiders is a really cool design, and many people may think smiling spiders are cute. So, all I hope is to add a setting to be able to turn off spiders' smiley faces, then everyone will be happy.
Newhome and Together Lore?
Just saw this video few minutes ago on youtube.
I know Klei is not directly connected to Newhome but does the game's lore connected somehow? Just like how is it in Shipwrecked and Hamlet.
Spiders
So it's been brought up to no end that spiders are bad but it feels like it's mainly just being said for the sake of being said at this point so I figured I'd make a thread asking these questions.
1. Do you think spiders are bad and if so why?
2. Do you think pigs, merms, and bunnymen are better followers and if so why?
3. Do you think spiders followers have poor combat ability and if so why?
1.Before answering these questions keep in mine that the top spider followers range between 375 and 400 hp while having access to cheap and/or cost free healing options.
2.Spiders you recruit are yours till you disconnect, die, or move to or from caves.
3. They have attack speeds on par with pigs and merms unbuffed while dealing around only 10 damage less.
Keep all 6 of these points in mindand tell me your thoughts.
How are we supposed to tell when to heal our spiders with the healing glop?
Since spiders don't regenerate health by themselves and we got an item to heal spiders in an area of effect, how are we supposed to know when to heal them?
This has become kind of important information now, especially since the switcherdoodles cost a lot of resources, so if our upgraded spiders die because we didn't know how much health they had, it seems kind of unfair.
Please don't tell me I have to download a mod.
What new environment would you like to see
If a whole new zone like the caves were to be implemented, not taking into account the resource limitations, what would you like it to be and what could it be hiding inside
PSA: Spiders don't eat meat off the ground at ALL in defensive mode.
If you blow the webby whistle around befriended Spiders, it puts them into defensive mode. Defensive mode means they will lose aggro on anything they're currently fighting, and they will NOT EAT ANY MEAT OFF THE GROUND. This means you can blow the whistle right after killing something, and they won't eat any of the meat, in fact they won't eat any meat off the ground at all until the next time they leave defensive mode (i.e. they attack something else.)
Thanks to @SinancoTheBest for helping me figure this out!!
Unable to write files in the config directory
Well f... This happened after the last hotfix.
What I tried to do and what didn't help to fix the problem:
1) Verified game files
2) Re-installed the game
3) Tried to change permission of C:\Users\user\Documents\Klei to "Read only -> no" (it didn't save for some reason) [1]
3.1) Oxygen Not Included's (Base game, no DLC owned) save files work perfectly fine despite being in the same folder (C:\Users\user\Documents\Klei\OxygenNotIncluded\cloud_save_files\*some_numbers*\*save_file_name*)
4) Launched as admin
[1]
My current settings. Repeating - ONI's saves work fine with them.
(Свойства -> Properties; Атрибуты: Только для чтения -> Attributes: Read only)
Has anyone else experienced this? If yes, how did you fix that?
Webber is AWESOME and PIKMIN!!!
the webber refresh is awesome!! the nurse spiders, the fact that spiders follow you forever, the cute animations!!!!, the fact that you can use spiders to kill stuff that drops meat now, the fact that you can get spiders out with the whistle now, all of this and more contributes to a much more fun and enjoyable webber in my own experiences with him playing ~60 days with him.
Upgrading tier three dens should summon spider queen
Like the title says, upgrading tier three dens should summon the spider queen. As webber, the most useful spider he could use for fights is the nurse spider. However you cannot access this new spider for over twenty days as you have to befriend them from spiderqueen. What this means is that you have to wait a fair bit before being able to unlock them. Why not just let webber upgrade the den to spawn spiderqueen early?
unable to write files in the config directory error
Can Wickerbottom have the next update please?
That is all...
Webber Spider Loyalty Box
So, any time you log off or change shard you lose spider loyalty, yeah? Makes 'em run off.
What's a cheap, spider-proof way of keeping their attention, like a fenced off pigskin for Werepigs? Obviously walls and fences don't work 'cuz spiders just wreck that stuff. Boats don't work either, if it's too close they'll jump on, and if it's not accessible they don't go for it.
(A square of 8 end tables with pigskin inside works alright, though I'm looking for cheaper alternatives.)
Any ideas?
