[Game Update] - 455433

Hey everybody.

We're back with another QOL update, this update contains some changes to world options, they have been split into two categories, world settings (things affect the world after it has been generated), and world generation options (things that affect world generation). By default, saving and loading presets will work as before, or can choose to unlink the world settings and generation options and manage their presets separately. If you host a dedicated server, the method for applying world options is unchanged and will continue to work just fine.

Changes

  • Containers can now be opened by multiple players at the same time.
  • All actions can be repeated by clicking and holding the action button.
  • All crafting recipes can be repeated by double clicking and holding the crafting button.
  • Setting world generation options to “More” will no longer generate more of that object in every biome, it will now only generate more of that object in biomes where that object already exists.
  • World settings, (things that affect game behavior after the world has been generated) can now be changed after a world has been generated.
  • The preset menu has been overhauled to allow custom presets to be named.
  • Added over 20 new world generation options.
  • Added over 60 new world settings.
  • The server commands menu (eg. roll back, regenerate the world, etc) is now accessible via the “Server Commands” button in the not-a-pause pause menu.
  • The rescue command has been added to the Server Commands menu.
  • The player listing screen (scoreboard) can now also be accessed via the not-a-pause pause menu
  • Added world settings to assist players when joining someone’s server. These settings should only have an impact on public servers. If you are locally hosting your own private world that only you and some friends play on, your experience will not be affected.
    • Extra Starting Resources. New players joining a world after day 10 will start with a few extra resources to make up for the starting area being most likely picked clean. 
    • Seasonal Starting Items. New players joining a world that is not in autumn will receive a basic seasonal clothing item to help them survive long enough to get started.
    • Spawn Protection. When a player spawns in, if there are too many structures near the spawn point or if there are hostile creatures, the player will gain a temporary buff that allows them to walk through structures and prevents them from being targeted.
    • Drop Items on Despawn. Sets whether a player will drop only irreplaceable items or drop all their items when they leave the server.
  • Year of the Beefalo has ended.
  • Beefalo bell has been moved into the tools crafting menu,
  • Beefalo groomer has been moved into the structures crafting menu. Recipe changed a little.
  • The Year of the Beefalo skins are available all the time now.

Bug Fixes

  • Ice now floats
  • Lesser Glow Berries now have a different animation on the ground.
  • Fixed a bug causing birchnut trees to update when they shouldn’t

Notes For Modders

  • The worlddeciduoustreeupdater component is now deprecated
  • You can see this post for the modding api changes made in this update.

Workshop API Upgrade
The Steam Workshop API has been upgraded, this provides the following improvements:

  • Mods will be smaller in file size, along with downloading faster.
  • Updates won’t require redownloading the whole mod, instead only the changes are downloaded.
  • The File limits imposed by the previous API are gone.
  • Mods will be automatically updated by the steam client without the game even needing to be open.
  • The Mods Tab should perform better due to using the faster API for getting mod info.

More Victorian Skins!

Whats up with lunar island being connected to main land

I had this kind of world gen several times before the QoL, and now after QoL. Anyone else encountered such world gen? Pretty sure it isn't intended... (Seed: 1615651667)

Names in DST are shown with colors, pink, red, yellowish or something like that, what determined the color of names , and of what somebody said?

Dragonfly not re-spawning after 20+ days

I and my brother already on day 220+ and attempt to kill Dragonfly. We manage to kill her right before winter comes. We planned to kill her again on Spring because we know that her spawn days is about 20 days. But now, we already on days 286 and she STILL NOT RE-SPAWNING.
 
We manage to try to summon her via command on day 260 and try to see, "will she spawning on day 280?" and nope, even we already on day 280, she still not re-spawning anymore. Is there anyone knows what happened?
 
A small note: We manage to kill her when we still on "Year of Beefalo" event. We kill her on day 100+ and she still be able to spawn 20 days later. Next, we kill her again right before the update and then when we are going to try to kill her for the 3rd time, this is happened.

First, are you sure you can't even write a game pause?
Secondly, even if you can't, there is a MOD in the creative workshop. Can't you copy?
Thirdly, we are all scholars. If we say that copying is indecent, won't you "learn from it"?
Finally, if you don't "learn from" it, Why did you crash the mod that pause the game!!

Some QoL ideas that could be nice

1. Giant plants could be hammer-able straight from the vine instead of having to be picked first

Explanation: A lot of the time, especially in the late game with much larger harvests it can be quite annoying to harvest 10+ giant crops just to go back and hammer them. Don't get me wrong, you should still be able to pick them normally and carry/wax them. It just seems as though the harvesting and hammering could be made into 1 action with little change to how they work

2. Small visual effects could appear around the player's screen regarding important events like a giant spawning or a hound wave containing fire/ice hounds. Deerclops could have a chilling air going around the screen of the player while antlion's should have sand rushing around the edges of your screen to signal a quake. For bearger there could maybe be a wind around the edges of the screen carrying leaves and bearger's fur tufts. (These could come before they spawn but alongside the sound effect) For hounds, I'm not quite sure but it would need to be distinct enough  from other effects such as freezing/overheating. This could also exist for krampus and his arrival.

Explanation: The problem with the audio cues and voice lines is that they could be drowned out by things like ambient sounds like those of instanity,while the lines the characters say might not be noticed or quickly skipped by an attack quote, a chat message or an inspection line or they could come too late, as with the seasonal giants. This could also apply to people that might be hard of hearing or deaf. The problem with relying upon the audio cues is that most of the time, the game doesn't use them except those instances so it feels quite inconsistent to still rely on them. Feel free to share any ideas below
 

No input for PS4 Controller anymore

So I played the game a few weeks back with no issues just plug n play or connect bluetooth and play.  However, I have been racking my brain on this one trying everything I can think of and nothing is working.  Steam recognizes my ps4 controller however dst only has input for keyboard/mouse and an xbox controller.  What has happened and how can I fix this??

i as trying to stream today but i cut short because i could not interact with objects in the world
this only occurred when i joined a server that was hosted by another individual.  from what i know it only happend on endless servers that were dedicated.  at least from the ones i was able to interact with. 

if i played on my own private world it worked.

i could not interact with things it would like tease me and highlight for a very brief moment.  or not even provide extra commands.

i tried restarting and doing a bunch of other things to see if it would get fixed but nothing.
so i am asking if any of you are experiencing this ?

The Starver's Guide to Self-Feeding Farms

This guide is now fully up to date and, hopefully, finalized.

Guess who had a ton of free time on his hands and decided to compile a list of all the "major" crop combinations that require a grand total of zero nutrients to grow, meaning you only need to take care of tending and watering.

Note, the combinations listed here must exist within each individual soil tile for this to work; crops in one tile cannot feed crops in an adjacent tile.

But first, have a free table of farm plant stats as of the latest patch. (The wiki's page had not been properly updated when this was made, so I had to make my own table to figure things out.)

Now, on to the possible configurations of a self-feeding farm...

 

Type A: Three Different Crops in Equal Amounts (1:1:1 Ratio)

Note: Apparently, using the snapping till mod allows you to place the plants close enough that they all meet the family criteria, but I am not sure whether this is possible without that mod. Theoretically, it should be, but it would take some insane precision. Also, I replaced my original column design with the one proposed by @kuroite a few comments below.

This is by far the most common configuration. Unfortunately, it's also got a tiny imperfection: the 4 plants at the corner of this layout will always fail to meet the family requirement, meaning they will grow slower and will not become oversized. However, the imperfection does not scale with the size of the farm, so a 10x10 farm plot will produce a max of 900 plants, of which only 4 will be non-giant.

Type B: Two Crops in Equal Amounts

The minimalist of the bunch, contained entirely in a single tile, with 4 of each plant. I've arranged the plants in L shapes to ensure the family requirement is met. It goes without saying that you can copy-paste that same tile to make this farm as big or as small as you want.

Type C: Two Crops at a 2:1 Ratio

This one requires a 1x2 farm plot (and multiple of that, of course). The minority plants must be facing others of their kind to meet the family requirement and grow giant.

This one is a tad more complicated than the previous three, but I figured it was worth adding just because of the amount of combinations it brings to the table.

But what about all these other combinations?

I had considered throwing a bunch more layouts into this guide, but all it would have achieved is create a ton of bloat. The above 4 combinations will probably cover all your farming needs anyway. And if they do not, you can find most of the more complicated combinations (that will still give you giant crops) simply by partially replacing one crop with another that has the same stats.

For example, if you got 3 carrots in your setup, you can easily replace 1 or 2 of them with a Pumpkin, provided those are in season. And just like that you have a 3:3:2:1 combination. Which is a bad example, cause I don't think it's actually possible for that to give you all giant crops. :P

The new update has made some pretty substantial changes to this game for console players, this entire post may not mean much to PC Players because most of it will be discussing how I’m flipping out about features you already had- or could add via Mods.

With that Said lets dive straight into it.

HERE is my first fully customized world I’ve played around with these settings a lot more then this since the video included: But here’s my first March QoL choices-

But later I went back and discovered I can customize those worlds even MORE: Such as No Butterflies at all, and yet MORE Flowers that are supposed to spawn them.

These changes are HUGE for a console player, Because Wendy and Wortox can easily survive off Butterflies all day long, but how will they survive when they DONT Spawn at all? These are questions that Prior to this QoL: Could only be answered with some nifty PC Mods.

Now let me just state that I have no hard feelings for PC.. and in fact most the cool people I’ve come to enjoy chatting with are on PC however, mods should NEVER be the only answer when as this beautiful list of things we can toggle more/less/none of shows, there are ways Klei can provide us with further enjoyment of our game without needing mods.

There was recently a (now locked) thread about someone asking if DSTs popularity should get bigger because the bigger the community, the more toxic and BAD Ideas they bring- and that simply isn’t even True.

YES you can now completely toggle OFF Shadow Creatures, but at the same exact time you can also toggle them to happen MORE.

These are massive sweeping changes we simply wouldn’t have had without a fanbase of players of vastly different playstyles and preferences all voicing their opinions on what they would like to see in the game-

The TL:DR: It Got Easier AND Harder Simultaneously at the same exact time depending on this lovely menu full of things you can toggle more/little/none for.

And NOW that you can exit the game and change some settings on the fly... I’ve tested A lot of different things-

Such as: Waiting till Night 11 and then exiting the game and setting it so there’s no Day or Dusk to see if Klei Easter Egg Snuck in that permanent full moon I been wanting.

(Spoiler: Dont try it, it didn’t work..) BUT!! My entire point here is that we CAN do those things now- I CAN exit the game on full moon night and toggle off Day & Dawn to see if it remains locked on full moons like that old glitch for DS Single Player.

Those of you playing on PC may not be fully aware of just how limited Console Edition has been: it’s been getting better over the years but, prior to someone bringing it up a few years back- Our Spider Den nests did NOT upgrade to Tier 4 (Spider Queens)

NOW it seems I have them everywhere I go when I don’t keep the spider nests under control.. And it truly is Awesome!

This community may grow, but so is the accessibility of the game: And that can only be nothing but a good thing.

Let me enjoy my “More” Wildfires, while players who don’t like the mechanic can play with “None”

I wanted this post to be long, constructive & hopefully show how DST is changing for the Better, And I hope this QoL ends up being so well received that Klei will focus on expanding and improving upon this Menu with each future QoL update.

This March update has only Wet my Appetite for MORE: For example in my attempt at trying to see if they snuck in a permanent full moon Easter egg- I noticed that I still had Sanity Monsters set to MORE.

And If Klei gives us even MORE control over how our worlds behave (such as how much health players start with, or how much faster I can make Sanity/Hunger drain for that world) the crazier gameplay options we can have.

In the above example: Full Moon, More Sanity Monsters, Faster Sanity Drain- I can host a world where I’m at constant threat of never ending sanity drain where I need to avoid letting my Sanity spawn too many threats for me to handle.

Dude I can now set passive food sources to a lot less or even None and make all other food sources hostile things I need to kill: The game FINALLY lives up to its namesake of “Don’t Starve”

And I love it, Thank you so much for this Klei!!! You have no idea how absolutely happy this March QoL has made me, and I can only hope there’s more where this came from! :wilson_love::wickerbottomthanks:

No skin in new game on starting items

When starting game, Wigfrid and other characters don't have skin that they have defaultlyon their starting items.

IMO (and everyone I played with...) they should start with skin, if they used it before "default" - same thing with Abigail, Bernie.

 

Can it be added/fixed?

I know that I can change it later with magic item, but it makes no sense to wait.

Mod Configurations Options don't save (Client-Side)

I am unsure if I should be posting this on the bug tracker or not, but if this is something I should report over in that subforum I will do so and hide this one.

For some reason any configuration options I make on client-side mods do not save. I make the changes, press Apply, I double-check by pressing Configure Mod again and see that the changes I made have been applied correctly BUT launching my world or restarting the game will reset them all to default. Has anyone else encountered this problem as well? This has never happened to me before.

Also, I've seen some mods don't update at all, when I press Update Mod it just says "Downloading Mods..." for a few seconds and then nothing, the mod hasn't been updated, but I think other people have encountered this issue as well, is this a problem on Steam's behalf?

If you wanted to add one more transformation to chester, what would it be like?

Tribute to Helicalpuma: Rest In Peace, Puma.

To the DST Community:

I am sure Helicalpuma is not an unknown name in the DST community -- he was perhaps most well-known as an early pioneer of several very popular strats, and his Maxwell playthrough helped thousands of DST beginners and seasoned players to improve their gameplay. Unfortunately, recently we received very sad news from Helicalpuma's family, that Helicalpuma had passed away by natural cause (medical).

As a member of Helicalpuma's twitch, youtube, and discord community, we are still in shock (and denial). The news hits very hard, it is devastating and despairing. At the same time, we are very blessed to have him around in the community, for all the beautiful memories we shared.

For Helicalpuma's contribution to the game and the community in general, we believe the community deserves to know of the news. And we are thinking, what we can do for him, to honour his legacy and contribution.

We are wondering, would Klei developers be interested in doing a small tribute or homage to remember Helicalpuma? It can be an Easter Egg, or a character quote, or a pig or bunny name, it can be anything, as far as their creativity goes and it is legally sound. The idea is mentioned to us by Puma's cousins. Of course, this is only a suggestion and humble request.

Otherwise, feel free to share your memories and thoughts about Puma, or write a few words for him. It is really unfortunate, that since he was inactive on Twitch for quite some time, the vods got deleted and clips were the only ones left.

Twitch Drops Hiatus

Hey everyone, I hope your February is going well, and you're all staying healthy.

Back in 2018 we launched the Twitch Drops system and over the years many of you have participated in watching streams and earning items. Since then we've released two large collections, the Side Show Collection and the Crystalline Collection, as well as a handful of fun seasonal sets. Well over 2 million complete sets have been dropped to viewers! We hope you're enjoying the items and watching your favourite streamers.

Unfortunately the technology that the existing drop system works on is being decommissioned by Twitch, in favor of their newer system. Their new system has several features that will be useful for everyone, such as progress meters and current campaign information right in the Twitch interface.

Starting today the Don't Starve Together Twitch drops will be taking a bit of a hiatus. The existing system will be turning off while we upgrade and migrate to the new version, and possibly make a few changes while we're in there. We don't have a firm timeline of when they'll be returning, but if everything goes smoothly it will be just a few weeks. *crosses fingers*

As for the Crystalline Collection, we've put those up on the Klei Rewards page for everybody, and here are some Klei Points (link expired) to help get you on the way to completing your collections.

In the up coming weeks we're also going to be doing some experiments with running our Rhymes With Play dev streams on Twitch again. All of Klei is working remotely still, so doing a dev stream from our homes will certainly be interesting.
