I'll start first.
You know I've never really written many guides to apologies before hand, but let's just dive right into it!
Due Note: This is based on my experience and not code. Data-divers may correct or tweak what is stated here!
How to Get Started - Basics
Farmplots are no more! First thing you need to make is a Garden Rigamajig for 3 Boards, 2 Rope, & 2 Flint found in the Food Tab. This object can be placed along a grid to create a spot of farmland after a couple of seconds. It has 4 uses, and each square can hold 9 crops. Make sure to dig up any Garden Debris with a shovel to make room.
Next you're going to need a Hoe (or several) for 2 Twigs & 2 Flint from in the Food Tab. Each Hoe has 25 uses, and is used for creating spots for planting seeds on your existing farmland. Both mechanics play out very much like they did in the Gorge.
Take this time to also craft a Watering Can for 2 Boards & 1 Rope in the Food Tab. This will be used later to water an entire farmland tile.
Knowing Your Plants - Research
If you've already researched the plants or are using the (not yet updated) wiki, you can skip this step. Otherwise go ahead and craft yourself a Gardeneer Hat for a Bucket of Poop, 3 Seeds, & an Electric Doodad. This hat has no durability and is primarily used to view and update your "Plant Registry" much like the recipe book. The hat has two primary functions:
There are three main components to a plants needs as seen in the Plant Registry: Season, Water Consumption, Nutrients.
Beyond these three there are three others:
The Actual Process - Farming
The example listed is OUTDATED. The logic stands, but the nutrient consumption/production rates of the plants have changed.
Let's start with a simple example: Onion & Pepper. Onion & Pepper are both able to be grown in Autumn, and have directly opposite Nutrient usage, and rate. (One consumes Manure at a rate of 3, while producing Growth Formula at a rate of 3 while the other consumes Growth Formula at a rate of 3 while producing Manure at a rate of 3.)
Essentially, so long as you have an equal amount of onions to peppers within a single plot the crops will maintain the nutrients themselves.
As you can see here, within each tile I use 8/9 of the spots with an equal distribution of Onion & Pepper. Plus I try to make sure that each crop is next a couple of their own (4) to hit that Family criteria. So long as these are being grown in Autumn all I need to worry about is Watering & Happiness—and possibly weeds due to the unused spots.
What's The Next Step?
Not all crops have a convenient opposite, and even if they do you may end up wasting space to maintain the nutrients. The trick is finding what plant combinations work for the best result. You don't need a perfect ratio, but then you'll have to periodically Fertilize the plot which is an added step you can avoid with some proper planning.
Fertilizer
Fertilizer can be used to instantly add a specific type (or types) of Nutrients to your plots. To my understanding, each plot tile starts with a random amount between 20 to 40 of each nutrient and can hold a total of 100. This means you are allowed to use crop combinations that result in a net loss, so long as there's enough nutrients for the growing stages (sprout, small, medium). Just make sure you bring the nutrients back up with Fertilizer before planting your next batch!
F&Q
How do I get Giant Crops?
As far as I can tell, if you meet all the plants needs (& don't let it drop) you are guaranteed a Giant Crop (running out of nutrients ruins this)!
Tip - Make sure to pre-water & pre-fertilize (if the soil is off) before planting the seeds. This way you don't stress the plants out while planting.
What's the deal with Fruitflys?
After 35 days the Lord of the Fruit Flies can spawn if there's a harvest/rot of 10 or more plants together. After which he will spawn in the next 20 days if the same criteria is met. Also, I believe the timer is reduced by half a day when a crop rots. So take care of your plants!
Is Wormwood trash now?
Unfortunately, Wormwood doesn't excel at gardening (via the new system) more than anyone else. In fact, I would avoid planting without a hoe, as the crop placement is incredibly finnicky right now and crops may not be considered "on the tile" even if they appear to be.
Combinations
There's a handy thread right here for some top-notch combinations:
Final Notes
I might go into weeds & some other specifics/details at a later point. I've got other things to do today, but just wanted to get the basics out for those who are confused. Questions/Corrections are of course welcome. Happy farming!
I wonder if it's possible to get more holiday cheer after the winter's feast ends, the recipes are cool and great for megabasing.
Without cheating.
Is it just me, or does Webber need a short animation for his origin. ,the same goes for wx-78
We are introducing a system that will allow players to collect "points" on their accounts by doing various things like subscribing to our Youtube or following us on Twitter and then use those points to get items. Currently we will be using this to distribute our out of cycle Twitch items rather than selling them as we had previously suggested. This allows players to get what they missed before or just get them without going through Twitch.
The first version of this can be found on our accounts page here: https://accounts.klei.com/account/rewards
In the future we will update the rewards program with new ways to earn more points and pick up cool rewards they may have missed, or even possibly entirely new stuff. Let us know what you think!
There's a button to use now, I want to open them ingame please!
When a Charged volt goat hits a player with electric insulation who's mounted on a beefalo, the damage is still passed to the player. The damage from this is 25, the damage of a normal volt goat, so the electric damage modifier is negated by the electric insulation but still passed on to the player instead of the beefalo. This damage is still affected by armor, and also procs the affects from bramble husks, scalemail, and bonearmor.
So my question is - Why does this happen? My theory is the electric damage from the attack is passed on after, similar to how when Wagstaff eats butterfly wings and the healing doesn't outright negate the damage from eating raw foods, because the damage is added on after. But shouldn't the beefalo still absorb the physical damage if the player has insulation from the electric damage? Is this some awkward culmination of game mechanics and actually a glitch?
Any help/explanation would be greatly appreciated!

On Woodies perks list, it has always said that he is "Thankful for bountiful harvests". Back in solo DS i always thought it was just a cheeky little hint as to how his curse worked, but after the rework in DST that no longer explains it.
I know Woodie has a couple hidden perks, (Slight natural insulation due to his beard, followers last longer) is this something i just missed, or does it truly mean nothing?
Hello everyone! I was just wanting to see the general consensus on what everyone feels about houses being added into DST. They first made there appearance in Hamlet and another appearance in the Don't Starve: Homecoming trailer.
I believe it is more than possible given we now have "community projects" within the game (things like the Celestial Gateway and Merm Kings mat), and I believe this would be a hearty resource sink for those players looking to make one, possibly making it challenging to speedrun due to the amount of wood/gold needed to craft. I know there would be a lot of work going into the balancing and designs needed to implement these, but a few years ago we never imagined having the sea to explore and here we are!
What does everyone else think about houses being in DST?
It seems like the game could use some new emotes, so why not add some interactive ones? I was bored so I designed a hgih five one
Or in this case, a high two
In my opinion I think that they should add these ideas to the year of the beefalo update to make it more realistic
Let me hear your ideas and thoughts about this post
Enjoy!
So, the situation is that I'm doing a solo run in DST and there are like 4-5 ponds that are in really uncomfortable places so I decided that I will remove them using console commands, which worked, however when I leave the area then go back the ponds are there again. Is it because of a mod I'm using or the server just respawns ponds that are deleted?
bruh he is useless
Is it Guest of Honor? Magmatic? Verdant? Tell me about your favorite collection!
If it spawns normally at the beginning of every winter how often does it spawn during Winters Feast?
This guide is now fully up to date and, hopefully, finalized.
Guess who had a ton of free time on his hands and decided to compile a list of all the "major" crop combinations that require a grand total of zero nutrients to grow, meaning you only need to take care of tending and watering.
Note, the combinations listed here must exist within each individual soil tile for this to work; crops in one tile cannot feed crops in an adjacent tile.
But first, have a free table of farm plant stats as of the latest patch. (The wiki's page had not been properly updated when this was made, so I had to make my own table to figure things out.)
Now, on to the possible configurations of a self-feeding farm...
Type A: Three Different Crops in Equal Amounts (1:1:1 Ratio)
Note: Apparently, using the snapping till mod allows you to place the plants close enough that they all meet the family criteria, but I am not sure whether this is possible without that mod. Theoretically, it should be, but it would take some insane precision. Also, I replaced my original column design with the one proposed by @kuroite a few comments below.
This is by far the most common configuration. Unfortunately, it's also got a tiny imperfection: the 4 plants at the corner of this layout will always fail to meet the family requirement, meaning they will grow slower and will not become oversized. However, the imperfection does not scale with the size of the farm, so a 10x10 farm plot will produce a max of 900 plants, of which only 4 will be non-giant.
Combinations that can be done with this layout:
Type B: Two Crops in Equal Amounts
The minimalist of the bunch, contained entirely in a single tile, with 4 of each plant. I've arranged the plants in L shapes to ensure the family requirement is met. It goes without saying that you can copy-paste that same tile to make this farm as big or as small as you want.
Combinations that can be done with this layout:
Type C: Two Crops at a 2:1 Ratio
This one requires a 1x2 farm plot (and multiple of that, of course). The minority plants must be facing others of their kind to meet the family requirement and grow giant.
Combinations that can be done with this layout:
Type D: Three Crops at a 2:1:1 Ratio
This one is a tad more complicated than the previous three, but I figured it was worth adding just because of the amount of combinations it brings to the table.
Speaking of which, the combinations you can do with this layout:
All the above combinations in concise plain text, for those who want to Ctrl+F their way to them:
AUTUMN:
WINTER:
SPRING:
SUMMER:
But what about all these other combinations?
I had considered throwing a bunch more layouts into this guide, but all it would have achieved is create a ton of bloat. The above 4 combinations will probably cover all your farming needs anyway. And if they do not, you can find most of the more complicated combinations (that will still give you giant crops) simply by partially replacing one crop with another that has the same stats.
For example, if you got 3 carrots in your setup, you can easily replace 1 or 2 of them with a Pumpkin, provided those are in season. And just like that you have a 3:3:2:1 combination. Which is a bad example, cause I don't think it's actually possible for that to give you all giant crops. :P
That's all, folks!
Hi my name is Filipe, after the update the return of them,my game started to screen freezing randomly and then the following menssage appeared: "the vídeo drive stopped responding and recovered succefully". My video card is Intel (R)HD graphics, there is any way to fix it?if not you could do some optimizations because im not the only who suffers from this problem. Pls reply and sorry for the bad english.
