PS4 Can No longer Play! Crash City!

$

Klei... Don't Starve Together is one of the best games I have ever played..... I have played on PC since the Together version of the game has come out, and although the community on PC is fantastic I decided to switch to PS4 to enjoy the game with close friends.

Since I have played on PS4 ... let me tell you there are many bugs I should have posted a while ago but I thought for sure they woud've been fixed by now but they haven't been.

I am no longer able to play Don't Starve Together on the PS4 because I can't even load in the game. It's only day 500 and every single time I come up from the caves the server crashes for me.  As well as any other player who enters the cave (Anyone can enter but if they come up they disconnect).  When people come up from the caves they crash including the host (around a 10% chance for host and 95% crash chance for other players).  The connection is fine.. speed tests run 70mbps.. it doesn't matter what the connection is as I have tested it on a variety of systems and speed tests it is the console game itself.  On patch 1.09 I definitely hoped these crashes would be fixed... Patch 1.09 added christmas and content from the Reign Beta which made these disconnects even worse.  It seems that the more items that are around any cave entrance when a player comes up the worse it gets.  Since Patch 1.09 i am no longer able to play the game because when i spawn in on the world I immediately disconnect as I am currently in the process coming up from the caves (100% disconnect chance).  Adding more items onto console is fantastic and I have waited for the content to come forth on console but new content is no good if I cannot even play the game.  I shut off my PS4.. I closed the app, I had the host close the app, host shut off the PS4 reconnect to Wifi... etc.. etc.. etc.. but I can no longer play.  After spending so much time in the world and having such a blast all my work has gone for nothing if this problem cannot be resolved....

This problem is just one of the many that occurs...  The combat system forces attacks on enemies that have the most recent attack on you preventing you from finishing off mobs and the lagg that occurs when a vast amount of items in any certain area are laying on the ground or where structures are built.  Also.. coming up from the caves just normally even without a disconnect is a disaster as the bats almost killed me because i am still in the loading screen but as on another players screen it says i'm up from the caves but I have no control.  The hound traps are very difficult to reset... the lazy forager is force used before having the option to reset the traps which is inconvenient and as well you cannot cook food on crockpots with the lazy forager equipped. Catching butterflies and picking flowers are also inconvient with the button layouts because instead of catching a butterfly to plant a flower i'm picking up the flowers and in the end i'm just wasting resources...The lagg is a real problem on console and I have proof that it is not my connection but a reasonable guess that is is simply the amount of items that are trying to be loaded so quickly that causes the lagg's and the disconnects.

As of Patch 1.09 I am no longer able to play on the server that I started with friends and unfortunately I am very upset that instead of fixing these problems they added more content to make it even worse! :-(!!!  I hope you can fix some of these problems.

Geckos...

Ok, I actually like Grass Geckos. They're cool. I keep them penned up near my base. Howerver, when a world is generated with Grass Geckos you have to put some regular grass in there, too. Too often I get a world with Geckos and I die the 1st night because I can't find the geckos fast enough and I have ZERO cut grass. Can't make a Torch or a Camp Fire and it's GG.

Accidental reset world. Any solution?

Title. I had a pretty well stablished world on day 141. I died, and instead of resurrecting on one of the few ways I had, I pressed "reset world" by mistake. Hurts bad, so I would love to know if there is some way to recover my game. Feeeeeeeeeeels baaaaaaad...

Thanks in advance.

Do i need to create a new game for having klaus or is he available on previous save ?

didn't find nothing about that.

This should become a real show after all the games are done!

This I find to be really well made. A bit of a downer with the slow frame-rate and the fact that the camera changing mod(s) don't provide a background for the game, but other than that, the video's great. Really, Klei, give us a cartoon after you're done with it in terms of games, I'm sure people would love it. May be it'll become a hit on Cartoon Network if you put episodes there, who knows? Either way a series or a movie would be cool... preferably a cartoon series :p

Regardless, just wanted to share this with the forum, if it hasn't been already.

Is Lucy Real?

I was digging all of the character's speech files and noticed some patterns there

Most of the character's somehow refer to Lucy as a real person

Are the all just mad?

Or they're just being nice to Woody?

And I got super spooked when Maxwell act like he knew Lucy

He could be referring to when greeted Woodie in DS

Or Maybe there is a bigger conspiracy that lead to the reason why Woody was taken to the world

Spoiler

My theory is that Lucy was in fact a real person, She was Woodie's romantic partner

Then Woodie for some reason contracted the Werebeaver curse while at work

He lost control and Killed Lucy, That is when he gone Insane and started referring his axe as his dead partner

Then after some time Maxwell got in contact with Woodie

Maxwell promised to remove Woodie's curse and bring back Lucy from the dead

Woodie of course being so desperate, trusted Maxwell and followed his instruction to build the portal

Favourite Music?

Heyo,

I was poking about in my hard drive and I found some of the Don't Starve Soundtrack pieces in my music folder. I thought "Hm... these are really cool! Let's ask all the good folk of the forums and see what they think!" Ok, I didn't really think that last part...

This is kind of a pointless thread, but eh. Surely I'm not the only one who likes the soundtrack.

I would include the SW music, but I can't be bothered. Also SW isn't really DST, so...

Please tell my what your favourite piece is, and why! :)

Thermal Stone vs Insulation

$

Hello there! As the title suggests, this post is about the Thermal Stone vs Insulation and the pros of each (though, more directed towards winter).

*The information below on thermal stones is, oddly, not on the wiki. I personally conducted some tests and found the numbers stated below. Please feel free to do some tests yourselves to either prove or challenge the data I found.

As most people know, the mechanics of the thermal stone in DST is NOT the same as its mechanics in DS. And, here's why:

It has a durability of 8 neutral-hot/cold cycles. Meaning, for every time it reaches a glowing red hot state, or a deep blue cold state and goes back to a grey neutral (ambient temperature state), it loses durability. However, it has been severely buffed compared to DS' thermal stone.

Firstly, the thermal stone neither makes you colder in the winter nor make your hotter in the summer. This means that, in the winter, it cannot reach a cold state. And, in the summer, it cannot reach a hot state.

Secondly, you may increase the temperature of the thermal stone by standing next to a fire. You may increase it even further than standing on top of a fully stoked fire pit by simply placing a spiky bush on the ground and setting it on fire. Then, simply digging up the spiky bush. This allows you to let the thermal stone reach a temperature upwards of 60 degrees. Compared to standing next to a firepit which can net you up to 30 degrees during the winter.

Third, the thermal stone gains or loses heat at relatively constant rates. It gains approximately .75 to 1 degrees per second and loses approximately .15 to .2 degrees per second when not next to a fire. This means that for every second you stand next to a fire, you can increase your time away from a fire by 5 seconds. This is especially true by using the bush trick as it raises your temperature far above that of what a fully stoked fire pit and provide you.

Lastly, wearing insulation on top of having a thermal stone on you does NOT reduce the rate at which it loses or retains heat whatsoever. This means that wearing an insulating item whilst carrying a hot thermal stone is pointless. This opens up the head slot for the player to do whatever they wish (miner hat, top hat, bush hat, football helmet etc.)

--

Insulation reduces the rate at which we lose heat in the winter while taking up a head or body slot (more commonly the head slot as most people run around with a backpack).

The first aspect of insulation is their relatively small upkeep compared to a thermal stone. With insulation, you can easily tell the when you are about to freeze and when your item is about to break (or needs repairing). Additionally, it may or may not require less time standing next to a fire due depending on one's insulation value.

secondly It also allows for combinations of some powerful sanity/insulation combos (cat cap, tam, winter hat). Unfortunately, you are pretty much unable to take your insulation off unless you are in the direct vicinity of a heat source. Most players will have to unequip their chest item and replace it with a log suit if they are in need of protection.

-That's all I can really think of for insulation.

Which one do people prefer to take and why?

How to make custom dynamic keybinds

$

This is an informational post on how to create a system for creating your own keybinds to run arbitrary LUA.

It is dynamic in that you are able to edit the files and reload them while the game is running.

I also disable Strict.

Strict is used for mainly debugging and it enforces that any global variable must be declared before use, or it will throw a violation error.

I don't like Strict, and so I kill it.

Everything from here on is what I did for my stuff, so change what you will to fit your needs.

Like the names of functions that you'll be calling.

I am vain, and so pretty much all of my stuff has the cz_ prefix.

I'd suggest changing it for the cz_reload() concommand to something you can easily remember.

File structure layout:

Spoiler

Klei/DoNotStarveTogether/customcommands.lua

Klei/DST_Scripts/customcommands.lua

Klei/DST_Scripts/custom_keybinds.lua

I reused customcommands.lua in the DST_Scripts folder for portability in that it could be used in the main folder, but for how it's setup here this is how it should be setup without needing to edit anything.

The two keybinds in there are examples on things to do, and to check for.

It binds 'R' to do the yawn emote should you have the sleep set, and it binds 'Z' to drop your current cursor-held item at your player's feet.

Note that the functions you have access to are from the core system's functionality and so you don't need to prefix 'GLOBAL.' to anything here.

Likewise you do not have direct access to the Mod API, and so creating a prefab postinit dynamically like this will take a higher level of knowledge of how a prefab hook is done etc.

Tips on how to be Courteous to Fellow Players

$
0
0

Now this thread is not meant to call anyone out, nor is it about venting your frustrations over mistakes noobs make. These are tips aimed more at showing ways of being considerate than improving your skill at the game.

I don't have a lot of time for playing computer games, so when I play DST I tend to hop on a random server and help out all I can before I have to leave (sometimes hosting my own server if I can't find one, which tends to be lonely), and I thought it would be nice to share ways I've found of not being a liability and not getting on peoples bad sides. I'd like to see other peoples tips too, in case there's some I've missed or just haven't thought of. So here's mine :3

  • Don't ask where the Base is Right After Joining: This one's simple, but it goes a long way in not annoying people. Now I know that when you first enter a server you want to know where you can come to at night to cook and spam the /dance emote, but be patient. If you aren't given directions or offered an escort, explore, gather some things, get your bearings. People will respect you more if you survive a few days before asking where the base is located. Who knows, you may even find it on your own!
  • Don't Pick Everything: When first entering one of the many randomly generated islands, our brains tend to immediately slip into PICK ALL THE THINGS mode, especially those of us who've spent a fair amount of time in the single player game. However, when playing in multipayer, one has to stop and think, "Hey, if I systematically pick every bit of flint, grass, twigs, and food from around the portal in a ten mile radius, then there won't be anything left for new players!" Please, be considerate. How can you expect new players to survive a few days if they can't even scrounge up enough for a torch?
  • Drop some Flint by the Portal: It's a small thing that'll help out people just entering the server. You don't even have to go out of the way to do it; if you happen to be pasing by the portal and have some flint to spare, just drop some by it, or make a pickaxe to leave behind so they can collect their own. Heck, I've heard of people making a chest by the portal containing equipment like torches, rabbit earmuffs, and pickaxes to help new players out.
  • Don't Enter in Winter or Summer: Pay attention to the day and season of the server you're joining. If you want to join in a difficult season for some extra challenge, go ahead. Just don't expect everyone to drop what they're doing to help you out.
  • If you don't want Strangers, set a Password: You'd think this one would be a no brainer, but I've heard a lot of stories of people joining servers just to be kicked the moment they enter. I assume it only happens when someone doesn't know that they can make a password for they're server, but still, it's rude.
  • Drop your Stuff Before you Leave: Before you leave a server, it's nice to drop your items on the ground so others can use them. If you're playing with familiar people on a server you know you'll be on again, you can keep your equipment. In any case it's still rude to leave with gears, a big stack of silk, or any other important items still in your inventory, selfishly taking them out of reach of the unfortunate players left on the server.
  • Keep Busy: Look around the base. Does it still need some drying racks? A crockpot? Some farms? Do the traps need to be emptyed? Are you low on wood? Look around for things that need to be done, and if you're having trouble finding something, it never hurts to ask. No one likes a leach.

I hope you enjoyed reading through my wall of text and I didn't waste your time. Feel free to post helpful tips of your own, and you might help a few people become a little more helpful. Maybe.

If you want a tldr just read the bold text.

I like to play alone, but I'd like to play DST for the content. However, the fights are way tougher because it's built for multiplayer. If I set a server to 1 player limit, are the monsters' health scaled down? Any mods that do this?

Tips on how to be Manipulative to fellow player

$

This thread is totally not referring to anybody not even that piece of &$*$ #&*@#^?@ *$&@!# who wrecked my entire server overnight, This guide was meant to educate other player on how to be survive better in a random server with strangers

I never had given any trust with stranger, that's why I only play DST with my family and friends, But lately I see that alot of player here is being nice to me. So I say "Hey! why not give yourself a chance with strangers and maybe make a new friends". Then I greeted them with warm welcome, gave them basic materials and some food, But well, peoples are just ********

Don't ask where the base is: Instead say it better with words like "Hey I'm new to this game, maybe you can give me a few direction" or "Can anyone help me? I'm lost", Also playing as character that doesn't do well at fighting like Wes or Wendy will increase your chances, If the host doesn't believe you then make it like you're being chased by spiders and other monsters and die like a lot, the host will than have no choice but to help you out

Deduce who is the host yourself: If you just immediately ask who is the admin, people will become suspicious at you, The host usually appear to be much better geared and spend most of their time talking and walking, Once you're sure who the host is, start being extra nice, and pretend to be interested with whatever they're talking about, if you think that you are close enough with the host then Immediately be oblivious by saying "By the way, who is the host of this server?" followed by "Oh didn't though you're the host"

Compliment: Compliments is ten times more precious than a thelucite, so do your best and compliment someone when he did something good and belittle yourself when someone did something bad.

Do enter during Winter or Summer: Not much know about this but if you enter during one of this time, other people will be more likelier to take pity on your misfortune and decides to help you out, this may even accelerate your progress in gaining trust

Give not Keep: Try to give everything you got from gathered material to foraged food, and even meats from your hunt, That way you will gain better privilege to have access to the storeroom, there you can steal anything you need for your selfish reason, just don't do it too often or someone will get suspicious

Always point fingers: If you might got caught doing something bad or someone noticed that stuff from the storeroom disappearing, always blame the one with the least trust or even better, a newcomer. Importantly don't play direct role in accusing someone, instead whisper your suggetion directly to the host, Here is a set of extra manipulative words you can use

  • "I don't know, the only people that has access to the storeroom is me, host, host's friend, and Bob (Bob never have access to the storeroom)", followed by "I thought you gave bob permission to access the storeroom, he told me that"
  • Or if you know that the admin a foreigner, "Hey man what does putain mean?","I overheard Bob called you that, is it like a word for friend",and "If so the you are my putain"
  • "Well I did saw bob walking with (name any gear that you may stole, or crafted by the stolen item)"

After you successfully blamed someone, Immediately suggest the host to ban em' because when they found out you blamed them, you are in big trouble

Gain other's trust: When the host already trusted you, then your next step is to gain the trust of someone who were close to the host like her sister or her best friend, they will come to your defence when someone else tried to accuse you, so do the basic maneuver or compliments and assistance

Make them think It's their Idea: One of the trait of manipulation is to make people think the same way you do, don't just say, "I think we should all go hunt the fat frog" People hate being ordered around, Instead wait for a small conversation to happen, then agree on whatever they're saying, and then drop something like "Wouldn't the base look much better if we have some mushroom lamps", this would then continue with them talking about the toadstool to other players.

Well then good luck on your adventure and may this guide help you survive by leeching on other, and if your username is ************ then go ***** ******* you ******* *******

Spoiler

Okay I really have to say this so I won't get banned, but this is just a parody of meena's post and I do not encourage or condone any witch hunt's targeting a specific person.

And If anyone how read this happen to have bob as their name, I'm sorry. Bob is just an example name and I am referring to the steam workshop ****post called "this is bob".
