How I can make a dedicated server?

I need advice on how to create, (or whether I can create) a dedicated server. Because I have a steam group and I would like to create some server that will be on all the time.

I have a problem, my friend is hosting the map and, whenever I disconnect inside the cave or try to climb from the cave to the surface, the following error appears "Connection failed - something went wrong when connected. Try again"

What can it be?

Dear don’t starve together team, 

For the past three to four years, I have seen this game grow, mature and expand upon what don’t starve originally was, and with the Return of Them series of updates, I thought I’d come up with a ‘few’ ideas of my own to pitch to you guys, please read this all the way through before coming to a conclusion,  I spent a few hours on this list, though I don’t have a full understanding of how the code works. Anything you see here is yours to take, I am giving you these ideas, Im not even asking for a thank you if you do want to use them. Anyways, on with the show! 

Wind mechanics 

This idea came up when I began to think about the logistic side of the below, and as building blocks, I came up with wind mechanics!  

This is a mechanic that would happen for the most part (small breezes occasionally in other two months) during spring and summer and would work for and against the land. 

There would be a boss that is spawned on land or by the shores which after defeating would drop an item that for a chunk of durability could calm or change wind directions. 

This mechanic is different from shipwrecked wind as it wouldn’t move objects on land, instead would just move objects around the shores and will push floating objects in the sea towards land. 

During high winds it is suggested not to sail, as goose Woodie will sink almost immediately. 

This mechanic is not needed, but strongly supports lower ideas. 

 

Land mass size change 

Smaller land masses should be able to break off mainland, but there should be a minimum and maximum for how or large the over all land mass can be, and how far the land can over all shift on the map. 

Can be stopped around areas by building walls around land in the sea (that break down over time.) 

Special walls can be crafted when venturing to the island, giving more reason to visit the lunar island and biomes. 

Over time, unprotected land that has been warn down by sea will turn in to a sandier/ dirtier turf (depending on biome/ turf)  

Specific and unique islands can build up over time with different turf or plants. 

Cons to basing near ocean: your base can be easily broken if left unprotected from erosion and protecting bases from erosion can be expensive if you’re not willing to take a visit to the island. 

Giving players a reason to build bases around ocean instead of just building your base in the center of land: ocean breeze, you heat up slower in summer, and your base will have a harder time catching on fire, though it would raise players ‘wetness’ ever so slowly, something preventable by the smallest amount of water protection (i.e. football helmet.) 

This mechanic should be made a priority to have as an optional mechanics, as some players computers may not be able to run it (depending on how it would run) or if people are playing solo, this could end up being overwhelming for just one player, though the game is called don’t starve together, not just don’t starve. 

 

 

Under water geysers  

Biome full of small underwater volcanos which will occasionally spurt up burning volcanic water, killing surrounding fish and doing major, if not lethal damage to its surroundings. 

Will eventually build up land mass over time, creating small unique islands. 

A new type of hostile creature will surround this ocean biome until it has enough land to swim up on the surface , this creature is unlike any other, something Klei referred to when describing the update to contain, terrifying monstrosities.”  

 

Electronics corrosion  

Honestly this would just help make a great name with, “erosion and corrosion” as the update. mechanics wise, this would let “machine” type items that require fuel  to last longer over all with (any) fuel/ having a higher max amount of fuel over all, but if an the “machine” is left to idle, or is out of fuel for too long, it will eventually corrode, requiring something to fix it. 

 

 

 

Other 

Please Please PLEASE let boss creatures/ giants swim! The addition of water could possibly teach new players to avoid giants by hopping across a boat/ building boat bases instead of fighting the bosses, instead of killing and learning boss kiting patterns. 

Boss health scaling, something that is self-explanatory and probably requested often 

More interactions between the land and ocean?  

Aerodynamic boats that take more force and power to turn, but will move faster overall (possibly smaller as well?) 

PLEASE MAKE ANR OCEANS OPTIONAL. 

 Why Care? 

 

You may be aware, but a complaint I have often seen for the recent string of updates has been “why should we care about the lunar island?” This type of update would help push players to explore the lunar islands, as even recently I had a friend tell me how they had never visited the lunar island as they heard there was nothing meaningful enough there to improve the gameplay cycle.  

A mechanic like this would change late game up by a significant, totally changing priorities and giving players more to do and giving them more freedom. 

As an older veteran of the game, a common complaint I have heard with dst within the last year+ has been, “Klei is making Don’t starve too easy!” And while I see some of these complaints to be true, I find that an update like this would give enough challenge to the type of players wanting a difficult experience, while not being too hardcore as to drive newer, or players in general away.

Just another thread of curiosity, what mob from DS/T would you want a backpack skin for.(DS/T meaning either singleplayer OR together.)
It has to be a mob that currently does not have a backpack skin.
Honestly me personally, I'd love to see a grumble bee backpack.

What's The Hardest Season?

I've always wondered this because alot of people have different issues with other seasons that others may not. For me Summer is my worst season

Here's Why:

I think summer is the worst. Mostly because you have three options. Make flingomatics and be tethered to them at all times to make sure they don't run out of fuel, stay in the oasis (This is an okay method) But in my opinion, it's grody unless there are useful biomes nearby, Or Cave base which is my favorite but it also requires an entirely new base. Therefore it gets rid of exploration (Excluding caves) because you are always overheating (Unless ice Chester, or that weird summer jacket thing but the good one) It just seem like to many steps to be able to live, that's why I think it's the hardest.

I'm looking for a group of dedicated players to start a new adventure in dst.

I have various goals set for the group these include: 

  • Exploration of the map, caves, and island 
  • Nice organized base
  • Defeat all bosses including ancient fuel weaver
  • A set schedule for playing

I am open to the use of mods and just want to have a good time. I am available from 4pm-10pm PST during weekdays and open to playing on weekends as well.

A Neural Network Writes The Next Roadmap

In honor of @HereBeJimbo, first one to have proposed this, in the spirit of good fun, in answer to the times where our collective patience for the next roadmap has worn thin and and to divert us from all the serious discussions we're having (though I do condone them in the spirit of free speech, I;d love for the people to chill out and have a laugh too sometime instead of be all gloomy and argumentative XD) here is a talk-to-transformer DST roadmap! Hello everyone!

It’s been a while since I’ve made a post here, I’d like to share with you our plans for Don't Starve Together 2020, which are extensive!


As you know, we have no intention of neglecting or abandoning the fans of the game. In fact, we have a lot planned that we think will enrich the game. We have been carefully listening to what the fans of the game want and are now going to embark on a new adventure.

It is with great excitement that we announce that for the next year, starting with the end of 2018, we plan to make at least two major updates to the game.

The first massive Don't Starve Together update, rolling out this March, shall bring with it 1.3 million square kilometers to explore. It's very difficult to pinpoint exactly how many square kilometers of land is contained within a single biome, as it all depends on your proximity to the nearest beach. Players will find many beaches that will contain pieces of land that players can claim. When you find a beach, you can drop off the beach piece and the island will convert itself into a new biome (even if the beach was not intended to be converted). To place this new land piece, a player needs to stack three or more pieces of land together.

These lands will include expansions to existing Return of Them content, especially the ocean, which shall have many excellent new features, from thermal vents to hardy species; and, in the shadow of these new worlds, plenty of brand new features, to include massive pirate infested oceanic outposts and dungeons.

You can also expect to find plenty of fantastic new plot devices, including intrepid NPC explorers who will travel far and wide to uncover more of their lost worlds! This will lead to some of our most significant and challenging new quests yet!

Soon, They shall arise and visit the Constant, bringing new challenges to bear on our Survivors, such as the undead being released from their macabre tombs, a rogue god reappearing, or the return of someone special from the past.

New plants and animals shall be introduced into Don't Starve Together such as plants and animals such as Minecraft and Minecraft Pets. We also want the AI to interact with other players in-game, making sure there's a "whack a zombie" moment if you get run over. In addition, we want to allow the players to be the bosses in the game. That is, the player is the one with the most crafting ability, and there are times when you will need to kill other players.

We have not forgotten our promise to add new exciting characters in Don't Starve Together, and we shall deliver, starting with Witherbloom.

Meet Witherbloom, a fairy made of mystical leaves. Her fluttering wings will steal your farm, and cause a pestilence!

If you ever have a spell where your enemies explode into smoke when you attack, use this spell. She will not come in handy for a very long time, but she might come in handy once the full patch rolls out on July 30th.

We also have not forgotten our promise to refresh existing characters in Don't Starve Together, continuing where we left off with Wendy, who shall now have something of a full backstory to work with.

We also plan to rework Croque Du Chevalier, the legendary animal hunter! He will be lowered in power, but will also have some other small changes.

And that’s it folks!

Merm King and the new sea fishes

Trying to configure my Nintendo Switch controllers

I can't seem to get my controller to work for some odd reason because I do not have a normal controller, it's two normal controllers in the joycon holders to form a full controller.  Because I do not have the button 9, 8, etc on it. Only 0,1,2,3 what should I do to fix this issue? Or if I need a different controller what do I use?

you cut trees because you have vision to put something over there. But who cares because after few days the trees are growing in the same place. Klei, can you add option to respawn the trees, so you can totally turn off this option in world's settings ? Even if you change turf to stone the trees are still growing

Better Starving?

Hello!

As a old player of this game I realized a thing. None of my death wasn't bc of starving and I'm rarely get starve. The food is very easy thing to get every season in game. I just get meatball, fishsticks everytime and it's just boring. There is no reasons to make cooked turkey or jellybean.

 I saw a guy asked for "Everycharacter is picky eater." and most of people said no. They are right bc only a "cooker" can choose food while surviving. But how about healthy eating? Here my ideas, don't forget to sharing your ideas.

Hunger have 4 tabs. This tabs decrase slowly and not critic as hunger if you arent starving. Also keep it in your mind, that effects is not very powerfull effects and they will not change your gameplay so much. They just would be critic when they are very low. This idea just make you more carefull about eating, not slave of diets.

-Player can gain protein from meats (much), milk (normal) and mushrooms (slightly).

-Deficiency of protein causes low damage multiplier.

-So so much meat give more hitpoint but drain 0.5 health per second. (Vegan bunnies liked it!)

Extra Idea➥ If your meat bar is high, you will smell meat and bunnies will not like that.
Extra Idea➥ Wurt's meat bar should drain very slow.
Extra Idea➥ Wigfrid's meat bar should drain faster.

-Player can gain vegetables from veggies (much), fruits (normal) and musrooms (slightly).

-Deficiency of vegetable causes low maximum health.

-So so much vegetables regenerate health but causing more sanity drain. (Nobody loves veggies lol)

Extra Idea➥ Wigfrid's vegetable should drain very slow.
Extra Idea➥ Wigfrid should able to eating "leafy meats" and "butterflies" to gain vegetable point. Also there should be more leafy meat sources.
Extra Idea➥ Wurt's veg. bar should drain faster.

-Player can gain sugar from honey (much), fruit (normal) and vegetables (slightly).

-Deficiency of sugar caues low speed on running and collecting.

-So so much sugar speeds up character but causing more hunger drain. (It's king of sugar coma :D)

Extra Idea➥ Kid characters like Wurt, Wendy and Webber should gain sanity from sugar bar!
Extra Idea➥ Wickerbottom is an old lady, she should have diabet and high sugar should be dangerous for her!

 

Sensible Potion Profile Icon

        OIL

-Player can gain oil from butter (much) and meat (normal). (There is not much oil sources in game but klei should let us crafting oil from vegetables or flowers.)

-Deficiency of oil causes low damage absorb, you will get more damage from creatures.

-So so much oil causes fatness and slows your character running speed but makes you starving slower.

Extra Idea➥ Foods like meatball, meatstew should need a oil but oil should be easy to get.
Extra Idea➥ Flower oil from flowers, fish oil from fishs and also they can add plants like olive and sunflower.

What if the next character is a walrus and an accomplished hunter, who maintains a rivalry / competition with other hunting walruses?

And your goal is to find a mysterious creature that has never been seen in the constant until then, Charlie! Lol!

And he or she could make special items with the falls of the creatures that can be hunted, like the Varg, Ewcus, Koalefant and the new mysterious creatures. (They could be more of a legendary creature that only a walrus would know how to hunt).

And those recipes would be in your bestiary! (Maybe, it's just a crafting tab or maybe it looks like the Gorge cookbook!).

Besides being able to create an Ice Boat, maybe an igloo?

A walrushat. (Now we can put skins on it!).

And hunting items more advanced than the rabbit trap? Bird trap? Tooth Trap? Something for fishing or darts !.

Monstra tartar is not that bad

I'm a Warly main, and I love tried to eat different food from the Constant, and in my journeys to far places I usually bring with me some berries, monster meat and eggs. While traveling I collect some mush. So I discovered a personal strategy: Cook a Monstra tartar and then any healing item like pirogi. It will make your Warly long journeys easier to compact, and you won't need to carry a ton of ingredients, even bad things can be used for good!
