Flowers in the Caves?

$

So I was playing on a world with my friend. Summer started so as usual, I went into the caves to escape the heat. I was building a small base when I got an idea. I could make bee boxes and produce mass amounts of honey in the caves. Just to be sure, I checked to see if bee boxes worked in caves. It said that the bee boxes would spawn bees If put in caves. So I built the bee boxes, captured a bunch of butterflies, and setup the farm. At the time I only had about 5-8 flowers planted. I went up to the surface to get some more butterflies, but when I came back, all the flowers were wilted. Is there a way to fix/prevent this? or is it just a permanent thing.

So I have had DST sitting in my steam library for a while now and the problem I'm having is that when I try to create an account it gives me "Error code E_INVALID_STEAM_TICKET". At this point I don't know what to do to fix the problem.

Groups of trolls invading servers and then kicking everyone out.

$

I don't think I have ever been so angered by anything in this game ever before.

So I was playing on one of the Klei servers this evening. Things were going well, we made it to winter and things were looking up. Then all of a sudden, three players enter the game. Out of nowhere, there is a vote to kick one of the four or so individuals that I had been playing with. The rest of us were pretty confused since we had all been working together amicably. We kept voting against it of course, but it kept coming up, until somehow that person was kicked. Then another vote kick was initiated to remove yet another of remaining players, and they got kicked too. It was then I realized the three that had just joined were ganging up to kick us all out one by one. Of course, with their numbers, after somehow getting rid of the first player, they had the majority and were able to kick the rest of us. Eventually we were all tossed out and there was nothing we could do about it—the server was theirs.

I had to walk away for a few minutes since I was so frustrated thanks to these trolls. At first, I thought they had kicked us all out so they could take over our base and all that. But when I checked the Klei servers when I got back, they had let the world regenerate.

But the real kicker? (No pun intended.)

I joined another Klei server in hopes of starting fresh. Everything was fine, two other players had joined me and we were minding our own business. And then guess which three players joined all at the same time? That's right, the same three trolls that had joined that first server and kicked us all out of it. With evident glee, they proceeded to kick out the other two players before finally kicking me out as well. Maybe they saved me for last both times since I was vocal about my anger and that probably only fed the troll flame. Regardless, they succeeded yet again. I checked soon after, and they had left that server to (I assume) move onto the next one. As soon as I reconnected, the world was already being regenerated.

Has anyone else dealt with trollish behaviour like this? It's the first time I've come across this tactic in particular. I honestly don't understand how some people derive so much joy from ruining other people's fun. But really, I can't think of anything that can prevent this from happening when a group of people band together and use their numbers to their advantage so that the vote kick passes no matter what. Obviously there are answers, like hosting your own closed server. But the fact that they can just enter any old server with the vote kick function and boot out all the players that might have already established themselves is infuriating to say the least.

Lag when fighting bee queen

My friend and I are playing a self-hosted pre-beta world with caves. We recently spawned in a bee queen hive since it didn't appear naturally in our world.

When we try to fight the Bee Queen however half way trough the battle when she starts spitting out more minions and to speed them up I get the worst lag one could possibly imagine. Controls become completely unresponsive, I get stung by her grumble bees without even seeing them on screen and consuming an item from my inventory or switching weapons takes 20-30 sec. We are both playing on stable wired internet connections which should not be the issue here. Everything else in game runs fine. We do run into the occasional lag but never anything like this.

We attempted this several times before just giving up on her. Even my friend who is the host says he has some lag. The PC that hosts the game is nothing much but still should not have trouble with the game.

Anyone else experiencing the issue?

I have no idea where i could post this topic, so i'm posting it here.

I've been a huge fan of the Don't Starve Blind Boxes ever since i've first looked at them, even though i don't have money to afford them myself, i still love 'em, and i was wondering if Klei is going to update them? Add new avaible characters and accessories, and personaly i had a few ideas myself what could be added:

New mystery character - Charlie

New normal characters - Webber and Wigfrid

New normal enemy - Hound

New accessories:

Personal accesory for Charlie - End table

Personal accessory for Webber - Spider egg

Personal accessory for Wigfrid - Battle Spear

Personal accessory for Hound - Feather Pencil

Normal accessories - Science machine / Razor / Brush / Thermal Measurer (Could possibly work like a real thermometer) / Catcoon / Glommer

Mea Culpa - New Herd Patch

Hello There fellow starvers.

You know, not always you are right, and this time i think i was not.
So i started by saying this patch felt really low compared to all the other ones but i think i changed my mind and i feel quite happy about it here is why:

Chest Signs - Honestly how can a small addition (i do not know how hard must have been in terms of coding, im a noob in those matters) have so much damn impact. My Chest zones just went from good to EPIC with them. They look so neat and organized. I can even sign my Tools and Wardrobe Zones. Is god damn amazing. I even have an idea for the future to do some really cool zone with them.

Packages - In my first look on this i was like, meh it can be quite good if you want to move a lot of stuff from one side to the other one if you don't have a Krampus Sack, but then realized how good they are for RUINS RAIDING and to Stack UP all the food in emergency packages when you just have too much of it at one point. (This is great for Big Servers, when you have new people coming in all of a sudden). We even have it as Sanity Package, Health Package & Hunger Packages. It's awesome and they look really good!

Bee Queen Hat - I was really disappointed at first with it, Another Armor (yaaaaaaaawn), and even if i still think it would be cool to atleast have the feature of Harvesting The Honey without us having to run around like headless chickens during Spring, Autumn and Summer, the Sanity Reserve Aura is actually really good for Ruins Raiding. Being able to just sit near nightmare light, farming fuel while regening your Sanity back to full it's really good, i loved it, same as with fighting Deerclops with her Sanity Drain actually Making me Sane now.

No-Eye-Deer - Well i love how they look, how they walk, how they sleep. Still feels a bit like the letdown of the patch but it's because features was still not add to them, so i guess we just have to w8.

Pet Traits - I just came across of the traits yesterday and even if i'm a bit disappointed that they are not like real features, but just animations, they kind look really good, and i look forward to make my DragonFly Rage all the time. (Also can't w8 to get that damn New Skin for her, LOOKS SO GOOD)

So Overall, my disappointing almost vanished entirely, even if i think that Bee Queen patch, Toadstool, Arts & Crafts were better, this one was not as bad as i first envisioned.

Best Regards,

Glhrmzz

abigail and fire damage

could you take this out it was a cool tactic to not have abby be burned to death

she also doesnt show her pain animation

if this stays at least make it so she  trys

to gets out of it this really messes with abigail's game play and makes her pretty much useless against fire hounds as their burst fire does so much

besides ghosts are ethereal and shouldnt be hurt by fire

this post explains it a lot better than i did on why this should be reverted so give him some love down below

29 minutes ago, Billiscool said:

I play as Wendy a lot and I think the fire damage was a step in the wrong direction, Abigail already has a big amount of drawbacks, such as:

  • If you're anywhere within 1 astronomical unit of a tentacle, Abigail will get upset and suicide on it.
  • Abigail loves to attack passive treeguards for no reason and also suicide on them.
  • Ranged targeting was removed, which is kind of a bummer.
  • Having to compensate for so many drawbacks by crafting several flowers will eat up your inventory space.
  • Since Abigail's ambient sounds have such a long range, It is nearly impossible to sneak past players in a PVP situation or avoid people in general.
  • Abigail will kill any moles you try to hammer + pick up.

If anything, Abigail needs some love in certain aspects, It can be infuriating to play as Wendy at times.

Why Winnie would work well in DST

$
0
0

1. Synergy with Wigfrid - Wigfrid is renowned as Overpowered (personally, I don't believe that) - but she can also work great with Winnie. Winnie would have the ability to herd animals, leading to an increased amount of meat for food. Not only does this benefit Wigfrid with more meat, it leaves more veggies that would previously be used as filler.

2. There's a lot of 'herd' animals for her to use to her advantage. For example, Deer, Beefalo, Volt Goats, maybe even Pengulls.

3. As well as the synergy with Wigfrid, her potential farming abilities make her an amazing addition to a team, being able to farm animals and crops.

4. She can get a cute little Shepherd Vargling

5. Ewecus and Ewelet could potentially open up to a whole sheep herd, rather than a critter and a varg equivalent.

6. To balance this, she would gain naughtiness much faster, be unable to eat meat, and refuse to hit innocent animals. For example, she will not hit a Beefalo, even in heat.

Potential Winnie character:

The Shepherd Girl

*Can herd animals

*Can make a Shepherd's Staff & Bonnet

*Refuses to hurt animals

Un-noted perks:

Can train her dog to herd for her (eventually replacing the shepherd's staff)

tiny sanity aura near wigfrid?

Thoughts, pls.

Compromise between pretty "easy" social and true survival game-play

$

So, with the recent update on NMS coming out and introducing different game-play modes, I thought about whether this could be the kind of thing that could be in DST as a compromise for those who want the game to be more of an optional social club and those who would rather prefer if the game were focused on real tough survival with "everything is out to kill you" being more fleshed out.

You might think that "tune some game settings and there you go", could easily do and dust this, but the truth is you can't and it's for two reasons:

1) Newbies don't get much support from the game itself later on. The game's difficulty is very much constant, instead of local to each player based on their day count or something along the lines. It plays out to be going between somewhat easy to quite unbearable for newcomers and stays nearly constant in terms of difficulty for those already in the game from the beginning and doesn't prove to be much of a challenge a lot of the time for many. For true survival, as mentioned earlier, having difficulty local to each player, but if you're near players of higher day count, you could encounter things that are more often seen mid or late game (e.g. Deerclops spawning or Bearger spawning, so newbies wouldn't straight off the bat have to deal with them when they have nothing on them and none else of higher day count is there to help or be someone who should really be prepared for it, even if they might not be), with more of the recently added content and possibly older content (e.g. Dragonfly, Gmoose, Spider Queens perhaps etc.) being part of consequential or timed events and some more variation in many more things, so something like seasons variations like suggested by @Lumina and expanded a little by me. Here's a suggestion I made ages ago in improving the experience for newcomers, which sadly didn't get much attention, even though it's quite important.

2) The tuning of settings doesn't change the way mobs spawn or add in/change any existing behaviors. I'm not even sure you can tweak toadstool or bee queen in any way, but setting Dragonfly to lots isn't going to suddenly give you a challenge of her coming over to you during Summer at some point. This means integrating something along the lines of this, if I have not linked this in enough posts already.

Does this mean that devs might need to support different game modes as separate entities? It might feel that way, although not explicitly... I mean all of the code used in all modes could be used by any game-play mode, just that the game would ask what parts of code it should follow based on the game mode that has been selected.

Perhaps this could be integrated into the whole server game-play intentions, where you have the Social, Cooperative, Competitive and Madness, with the main candidates of variation in this case being social and cooperative, I guess, but again, up for debate.

There could also be a creative mode perhaps, so anyone being able to spawn or at least craft anything they want like being in godmode state, if people want to simply avoid survival and work on creative things without having to constantly enable godmode for themselves and other players upon entering the server.

I would like to hear the thoughts of this from the rest of the forum, because I really don't want to have the game completely deviate to something like club penguin instead of being a true survival experience with everything being out to kill you in a sense. A compromise like this could keep us all happy if devs are willing to put in just a little bit more effort. I mean, some mechanical variation wouldn't be too difficult to implement, would it?

What happened/is happening with resource swapping?

$

In the beta, as of some recent point, there was a system where worlds started with either saplings or twiggy trees, either regular or juicy bushes, and I think either grass tufts or grass gekkos, although I never had one come up with the gekkos dominant initially.  If you're on the beta, you know the deal -- over time, the dominant resource type would gradually die off and be replaced by the alternate one, and then back the other way.  I liked that a lot!  It made the seasonal cycle feel a full step more real, integrated into the behavior of the world, and once I figured out what was going on, it caused me to change up my harvesting strategy in what's probably an overall improvement.  (I went from transplanting grass, saplings, and berry bushes to making a habit of gathering them as I ran around doing other things.  It eliminated the grindy process of bringing those plants back to my base, made travel over distances a little more interesting, and made me feel a little more like I was living in the wilderness vs. taming it.  10/10, will keep doing.)  Last night, I explained this whole system to a friend, and about twenty minutes later, discovered that it had been discontinued.  Why?  Is it likely to come back?  I was, clearly, a big fan, and I can't have been the only one.

I did generate one world where I seemed only to have twiggy trees and juicy berry bushes that never got replaced by their original counterparts, and it looks like that was reported here, so I'm hoping it's just an implementation thing that will be worked out.

My ideas for Winnie [Tweaked/Improved]

$
0
0

Winnie, The Shepherdess

*Can craft a bonnet and staff, or train a dog.

*Refuses to hurt innocent animals, choosing to tame and herd them.

*Has a sister, Wigfrid

Detailed explanation:

*When she hits an INNOCENT animal, she will lose Health and Sanity, equal to what Wigfrid would have gained. (Includes Charged Volt Goats, Bees in Spring & Beefalo in Heat)

*Her tamed beefalo will never lose loyalty to her (unless hit, or yknow... they starve.)

*Her herds of animals will reproduce so that there is always 5 there. 1 baby per 3 days. So if there's two, 9 days later there's 5. If there's one he/she doesn't reproduce.

*When she sees an animal get hurt, she will shout at the person hurting them (it holds her in place while it happens. Can be rather inconvenient.)

*She will only eat Vegetables and Fruit. Eggs, Butter, Milk & Butterfly Wings (they're counted as fruit or veg, iirc. Stupid tbh.)

*Her staff makes the nearest herd of animals (when equipped) follow her, until it is unequipped. Then they make a new herd point there. Lasts 3 days

*If she trains a dog to have the Shepherd tendency, it will add a right click option to all herd animals. "Chase" - Using it commands the dog to herd them, basically adding the staff mechanics to the dog until he is called back. (to make it work visually, he joins the herd and walks with them, until recalled)

*Loses sanity at the rate of an inverse garland aura when near Wigfrid.

*Crops grow 10% faster when Winnie is within a screen of them. Within 2 they will grow in Winter at 75% the normal rate. Making 82.5% the normal rate when she's 1 screen away in Winter.

*Has her own crockpot foods:

Salad - 1x Large Veg, 1x Fruit or Veg, 2x Filler - Filler can be Morsels/Fish Morsels/Monster Morsels (if ever added) so that it's easier to keep her fed - Salad stats are the same as meatballs.

Carrot Stew - 2x Large Veg, 2x Carrots - Equal to a Meaty Stew, but probably harder to obtain.

For all other Crockpot dishes that she can eat, she gets +10% of their stats, because the Veggie ones suck.

Large Veg: Aubergine, Pumpkin.

When using morsels, her recipes have the highest possible priority, so she doesn't get a meat dish.
