Before I begin, I do want to point out that as the title explains, I will only be using the information that we know at this point, which has been confirmed by the developers.

The big idea I want to focus on is balance, which is up in the air since one of Warly's only upsides was VERY vaguely mentioned. The crockpot speed doesn't really mean anything, and is a very minimal upside. I would have liked to see Warly's basic crockpot dishes get boosted stats right from the start, which would make him a good character for those people who like to sit in the base of big groups and just mass produce crockpot recipes. However I am willing to accept that it would be difficult to incorporate that, only if the spices make up for it. Those are Warly's only two upsides, 20% crockpot speed and the ability to add bonus effects to crockpot dishes. I'm not including his big boy tummy due to it still being worse than other survivors since he has the increased hunger drain.

Warly also has some NASTY downsides. They doubled down on the negative stats he had in singleplayer, which is what made everyone hate him. Not only that, but they removed the one upside that counteracted the downsides, which was that he gets bonus stats from crockpot dishes. I was surprised to see that upside wasn't directly mentioned in the announcement. Rather than getting bonus stats, they just made it so he can ONLY eat crockpot dishes. Hopefully with these really harsh downsides, his upsides balance things out.

With that in mind, it is important to remember that a lot of the cool stuff mentioned in the post is going to be available to all characters, not just him. Most of the new recipes and all the new vegetables are for everyone, not just Warly (even though he will get a lot more use out of them). Therefore they are not upsides, just cool content being added at the same time Warly is.

This brings me to my main point which is Warly's Famous Herbs and Spices. All we know about them is that he can attach bonus effects to any crockpot recipe. How good the effects will be is unknown, as well as what kind of effects they are, how difficult the spices will be to make, etc. This is what will make or break this character, and has so much potential. Honestly, I say to make this character viable, the spices need to be really powerful. A few scatterbrained Warly-themed forums posts ago, I mentioned that I want Warly to be a character that is taxing on the person playing as him, for a huge benefit to the rest of the team. As it stands, he has potential to be just that, a character who at his core is difficult to play, but a consistent source of really useful team based benefits. This can only be done if his main upside is powerful enough to make him worth playing for the sake of the team. Please don't make Warly's spices only give the relatively disappointing passive temperature effects of spicy chili, ice cream, or the effects from Hallowed Nights potions. He would be so much better with spices that temporarily add movement speed increase, damage increase, damage resistance, sanity gain, etc.

(Also just as a side thought, I think Warly's spices should not have "freshness" and should just last forever if not used. This is mainly because I like the idea of having a spice rack in the form of a chest without having to worry about those pesky expiration dates. Cut the guy some slack, he doesn't get to enjoy any of the holiday treats. At least let him have the ability to stockpile spices)

with the addition of Warly and the new crockpot recipes do you guys think it would be nice for KLEI to have some sort of recipe book on its site, other than people going to google or wiki to look stuff up (and the wiki doesnt even have the updated recipes).

Prior to Warly's introduction, the only means to raise your attack is to play Wolfgang and to fill your hunger or use one of the two electric weapons. However, Warly brings two new features that add attack: His chili Powder, and the Volt Goat Jelly. The chili powder can be added to any meal to give the eater extra damage to all attacks, while the Volt Goat Jelly adds electric damage to the eater's attacks. While seemingly innocent, these foods can be used to crazy effects, especially with Wolfgang.

Let's look at the numbers:

The chili powder applies a 120% multiplier to any attack. This means a blow dart that deals 100 damage goes up to 120.

The Volt Goat Jelly applies a whopping 250% multiplier to any attack, provided the target is wet as well as adding electric power. This means that blow dart would go from 100 damage to 250 damage. Note that these buffs do not apply to the Morning star or Electric darts, as they are already electric by nature.

Wolfgang with a full belly applies a 200% multiplier, doubling any damage he deals.

The true insanity happens when all these buffs are used together. Since all the buffs are multiplicative, a full Wolfgang that has eaten a spicy Volt Goat Jelly will have a 6X attack multiplier. He can deal a massive 600 damage with one blowdart or 408 damage with one dark sword swing, provided the target is wet. To put that into perspective, that's the same damage as eight Wilsons with tentacle spikes. With wet targets and a dark sword, Wolfgang can kill Dragonfly in just 68 hits and misery Toadstool in 246 hits. He can one-shot warrior spiders, two-shot tentacles, three-shot beefalo and kill Deerclops in 10 hits. 

Is this overpowered? Well... not really.

Remember, the targets have to be wet for the 250% bonus damage to apply. Since water balloons don't make anything wet except for players and for some reason Dragonfly, spring is really the only time mobs are consistently wet. Additionally, the Volt Goat Jelly requires a Volt Goat Horn to cook, making it difficult to mass-produce. While the power level of these new foods is off the charts, achieving them requires jumping through some serious hoops.

I noticed that, while his recipes weren't wrong, they were also not optimal. I was worried that this would misguide new Warly-mains, teaching bad habits and sup-optimal foodmaking... so I went out and made ALL new recipes through Trial-and-error, just so we can have a reliable source for these recipes.

With the Warly update out for everyone, me and some friends decided to start a new world and play together. A few of them picked Warly, and I picked Wormwood (I always do, I love the guy). and decided to farm 4 of the new crops...

For anyone unaware of how bird cages work with farm crops, here's a brief explanation: When you feed a bird a crop, it drops one seed of that crop with a 50% chance of dropping a second seed for it. There's also a chance to drop regular (random) seeds, but those aren't really useful for farming specific crops.
With this system, you would get about 50% more crops than you fed the bird if the 50% chance happened exactly 50% of the time. But it doesn't, so there's a bit of variance in how much you actually get.

To farm specific crops, I usually set aside a specific amount of that crop to feed the bird and the rest gets used up as food. Said amount is 30. By always feeding the bird exactly 30 crops every harvest, I get a relatively consistent amount of seeds, usually around 42-48. And since 30 of those will go back to the bird, I'm left with 12-18 crops as profit.

I personally find it kind of ridiculous that in order to keep farming a certain crop, I have to sacrifice TWO THIRDS of every harvest. Planting 45 seeds takes a long time and it isn't exactly very engaging when all you're doing is right clicking the ground in various spots. And I do this 4 times for 4 different crops (onions, garlic, potatoes and pepper) so the total amount of seeds I get is well above 160. Getting so little (15 of each crop) from farming so much is what I feel is the main problem with farming.

And all of this is only possible for me because I'm playing Wormwood. Other characters would have to build a farm for each and every single seed they want to plant. I don't think I'd get involved in farming at all if I had to build 45 farms to get a decent amount of crops as profit.

I think a nice solution would be to make birds always drop 2 seeds for the specific crop you want, so that the profit from farming is consistently higher (you'd always profit half of what you farmed, which sounds pretty good to me) and to leave the random seeds drop as the only random chance item involved.

First we get Wortox, who can heal a ridiculous amount to multiple people at once and teleport at almost no cost (low risk (literally he just farms souls from freaking butterflies), high reward).

Then we get Warly who can buff the team an un-godly amount with his foods and may completely break how the game works. 

One recipe in particular that causes me concern is:
"Nightmare Pie" swaps your health and sanity. You can clearly see how this is beyond broken. Use it with a bee queen crown as Wolfgang and turn into a never-dying killing machine. Oh and did I mention chilli flakes also increases damage dealt by an additional 20%? WOLFGANG DOES NOT NEED MORE BUFFS, FOR CRYING OUT LOUD.

Also garlic powder reduces all damage taken by 33%.. so yeah.. 
There are more foods he can make that are strong as well but I cba, you get my point.

There's too many items with LQ textures. Why did Klei dont fix that? I know that Klei is very busy rn because of the RoT update, but still. I hope that Klei after releasing RoT Turn of tides update will start mass HQuing low texture items.

With Warly coming and bring a ton new recipes for both himself and others I think now would be the best time to talk about adding the Gorge recipe book to the base game, this would help both new and old players by giving us a in game way to see all the recipes, of course you would need to cook the food first to find out how to make it just like in the Gorge.

My twitch drops, for this specific drop, has not been working, all my accounts steam, twitch and klei accounts are all properly linked. Every twitch drop has worked for me up until this point, i probably have over 2 hours on twitch and have not received anything. I tried switching from the beta to the base game but nothing is working.

I was curious what Warly's name means, so I tried looking it up... And I couldn't find anything. Did Klei just make up a new name? Or is it a diminutive for some other name that I couldn't find? The closest name I could find was Warlin, but the name site that I found it on had no information on it. No country of origin, no meaning, nothing. I suppose it's possible that Warly is a nickname for some other name that isn't similar enough for me to find without already knowing what it is, like Hank for Henry or Peggy for Margaret, but I don't know what it is.

The only other thing I could find is that perhaps Warly is an adverb of "war," so, it would mean something like "in a warlike way," but Warly is so caring and friendly that it doesn't seem like a good fit, unless it's meant to be an ironic name or something.

Or maybe there's some pun that I'm missing. I've certainly done that before. ^o^;>

Watching some new videos crop up with warlys buffs has been making me think.  specifically wolfgang i know what you all are thinking   This guy is trying to ruin our thicc man lets get him!!

But hear me out  look at how the game was initially made. Don't starve is meant to be a difficult game  And it is nice to  be able to see team synergies work  in Don't Starve Together. But, wouldn't you agree that  If the base game challenges can basically be overcome with 2 people doesn't that make it seem  a bit too much?

So my proposal to get things out of the way is  basically keep wolfgang as he is But give him a vamped up version of wormwood's trait  wolf would call it "everything is chicken" Meaning he gets no positive benefits other than food from eating.  I think this would actually be  a suitable downside to the character  since lets face it what his downside is now is pointless.

Having this as an added downside actually amplifies more of his current downside so it doesn't really change anything neccesary to the character other than how he can gain stats.

This game seems like it would go so well with those who want to create custom challenge maps or minigames.

The problem comes with trying to enforce map/minigame rules, it is far too easy to break maps due to game limitations, and resetting a minigame map is a pain due to limited rollbacks and inability to really back up saves or even copy them.

With Return of Them/Turn of Tides coming, it is even harder to enforce map rules, as using the ocean as a boundary is no longer viable, I thought about sea stacks as border walls, but then klei made them minable.

It seems unless people want to litter their oceans with basalt boundaries to prevent boat placement, theres no real stopping the abuse of boats to break out of a custom map/minigame's boundaries.

I wish DST was more map creator friendly, it seems like map creation has so much potential, especially with mods like simple map editor, but due to game limitations it's moreso annoying then fun trying to make them.

Please klei, I'd love for some form of better customization potential in DST, an easier way to back up custom maps and just make it easier to make custom maps in general.
