The longest world I've ever had was actually on Don't Starve, not Together. It was only on day 52, and I got into a fight with a Goose Goose and lost. I probably would have a longer world by now, but I like to go and assist others instead of having my own world. What is the longest world you've ever had, and if it's gone, how did you die?
Longest World?
Wes is in desperate need of a rework
This is not a meme, or a "Nerf Wes". This is a "Buff Wes", because as everyone may know, when Wes was first implemented into Don't Starve, he was intended to be a challenge character. This may not seem like an issue at all, but then Don't Starve Together released, and that added multiplayer into the equation.
Since anyone can join any person's world and play as whoever they want (unless there's a use of mods, but it doesn't show up that frequently.), anyone can just join as Wes, either knowing about his downsides or just simply picking him because they're new and he looks appealing.
And now Wes' downsides, they affect every other player in the server. Wes consumes more food than everyone. Wes deals less damage than everyone. Wes has low max HP compared to most of the cast. His only upside is that his balloons can be used to quickly drain sanity (which is good or bad, depending on the circumstances or the player, but it's not exactly the greatest place to be with 25% less damage being dealt), and bait and damage mobs. Neither of these are very substantial at all, and bring pretty much nothing to the table. Granted, with enough skill, the player could be less of a burden, but then.. why not just play as someone else?
Seriously. How many people have you seen in your experience with the game play as Wes for any purpose besides a joke. Out of all of the characters within the game, Wes is one who goes unused.
I think James Bucket's video explains what I said above pretty well. And in a more entertaining way:
Now, this isn't any hate on Wes. I quite like Wes' design, and his skins. Hell, I even went and nabbed all of them. I think it's a shame that using him would make everyone upset, and potentially lead to me being banned from a server.
With the announcement that every single character in DST (and even Shipwrecked, I guess. Klei's insane. In a good way.) is being reworked to balance their skills to make them more interesting, unique, fun to play, and more powerful. Or potentially less powerful, we're only 2 reworks in.
This means that EVERYONE will be reworked. Including characters who nobody even thought about Klei reworking, Wilson, and Wes.
This means that this is Wes' chance to maybe become a less unviable, or even a viable character.
What do you guys think? Do you think that Wes should keep his status as challenge character, or do you think that should be abandoned in favor of a more powerful, unique and co-op friendly character?
I never see anybody talk about Wes when it comes to who they think should be reworked soon, so I decided to be the first (to my knowledge).
A completely new idea on how to rework Wes: Wes the persecuted dies, and from his ashes Harlequin is born, the diabolical avenger!
Wes start with three unique objects in the inventory, which only he can use: Foil, Harlequin Costume and Mask.
- The Foil is built with 2 flint, a gold nugget and has no durability. The Foil inflicts 44 base damage and hits a little further (like the whip).
- The Harlequin Costume is made with a sewing kit and 2 silk, and has no durability. The Harlequin Costume offers 60% protection.
- The Mask is made with a sewing kit and a silk, and has no durability.
Wes can wear the Harlequin Costume and the Mask to become an exceptional swordsman!
If he wears the whole costume at the same time, Wes gets the following skills.
- The Foil now inflicts 51 base damage.
- Wes also gets a 25% increase in passive speed.
- Wes gets the ability to lunge with foil and then take an acrobatic leap backwards.
- Wes gets the ability to do a dodge similar to how Wheeler does.
- Wes gets the ability to perform AOE attacks with foil and hit all nearby creatures in his visual cone.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wes becomes an speed and agile warrior, who animates the battlefield with acrobatics and virtuosity, a master of the rapier who put his blade at the service of the weakest and the innocent.
Because, as we now know:
"By day, a French mime dandy. By night, a formidable swordsmime"
Ps: I'm too curious to see the animated short on Wes! I imagine him moving at night on the roofs of Paris, lurking on the Arc de Triomphe and then... bam! Attack on robbers and roll them all down with foil, all without uttering a single word!
And when the police arrive... just a mime making balloons at the roadside, and a group of thugs in their underwear and packaged.
Do you all tame beefalo?
Do you? If so, when do you think it is best to start?
Will a new boss be added to Return of Them?
I personally want a new boss for Return of Them. More excitement can be more beautiful.
Fuelweaver & The Forge Themes
for the longest time after listening to the forge main menu and in-game theme i thought to myself that Alot of the music it has resembles the Fuelweaver's theme, do you think the same? is my brain convincing these 4 themes are related to each other and I've lost it? what do you Forumers think about all this?
Themes Below :
ghosts have a decent use now.
combine a ghost with wormwood and watch in awe as you have a ridiculous amount of food. growth of seeds gets sped up a bit by haunting them as a ghost. not by much, mind you, but with a few more ghosts, you end up with too much food for your iceboxes to handle.
Rework Idea for Wilbur
Have him be able to make friends with Splumonkies/be their king... and allow him to speak. He seems to be a fairly intelligent monkey ((beit he is being controlled the player)). At least let him be able to speak when on the moon island, since the island inhances the survivors minds through lunacy; maybe it could give him the knowledge to speak?
Or, if the team decides to keep Wilbur as being able to only talk in monkey speech, maybe they could somehow make it to where he does have intelligent lines, but only other Wilbur players can read them as such, since they are speaking the same language? (Like, someone playing with Wilson wouldn't be able to see Wilbur's dialogue lines other than ooohs and ahhs, but another Wilbur can see intelligent language such as: Tree = "Ah, these seem quite different than the ones I've come accustomed to in the tropics.")
Screenshot showcase
A thread like this existed before but I'm afraid it fell deep into the archive, so here is a new one. You can post funny, odd and terrible pictures that you made while playing DST.
Here are some from my collection:
Love this one because it looks like as if the third bunny from the right (not counting the bunny behind the hut) is throwing the small bunny.
My dear Wolfgang managed to trap himself while being sane and of course I mocked him by taking a screenshot and weeks later finding myself trapped in this too while being sane.
Wigfrid is able to fish in carpet. Who would have guessed.
Finally she has a good place!
Weird Headcannons
I just sometimes imagine how one character might interact with another and I laugh out loud. Than people wonder why I'm laughing, and dang ain't that awkward.
Anyway, wondering if people do the same thing, and if so, what do they imagine characters doing? XD.
I mean things like,
- Wendy is the closest thing WX has as a friend among the survivors due to her morbid views on life.
- Wolfgang thinks the reason Maxwell is so grumpy is because he wasn't hugged enough as a child. He tries to rectify this by giving Maxwell bear-hugs.
- Wilson and Maxwell constantly attempt to one-up each other with science and magic respectively. This usually ends up bringing a lot of trouble to the group.
- Wes likes hanging out with Wigfrid the most because he thinks of her as a fellow actor just dedicated to her roll, like he is.
You know, silly small things like that. Anyone else here?
Please make "The Lazy Deserter" usable when playing solo!!
The best part of lazy deserter is teleporting wherever you are. But if you playing alone , you can use that structure as ornamental. On the game's name written together, i know this. After all almost every player have a alone world. I don't want to use this structure as ornament anymore. İn my opinion, this problem should be fixed in the next update. Thanks for reading.
A neural network writes the next Don't Starve Together
If you didn't know, there's a magical website called talktotransformer.com, which has you type in a sentence or two, and then the AI types the rest. So I was wondering- could a bot come up with a new update idea? Turns out it can.
Enjoy.
(note: bolded text is my own words that I fed into the machine)
Hey everyone!
Most of you have been wondering about the next Don't Starve Together update. We spent a lot of time making it and we're finally ready to present it to you! Since development is already wrapping up, here's what you can expect next:
Fossils!
There are now 18 new species introduced into Don't Starve Together that have been crafted by our Community Manager Roshana. These creatures are available on any level in the game to be used in your games of Don't Starve Together.
These plants include:
The Plant
We're not too sure what the new type of plant will look like yet and we're still exploring that. We think this plant is designed to represent a grassy terrain:
The plant will change based on what level you select. While it is intended to be used from a small garden to your larger game world, it can also be used as a living room, nursery, or house if you want it!
Another plant we plan on adding is the Grass. It's really a beautiful grass and the seeds are great... but you may be disappointed with their taste. They're very sweet, and I know from experience, it's hard to taste something as sweet as fresh honey while eating it. So I'd hate to find out they're not as sweet! I wish them well.
In addition to the fossils, we are proud to announce the newest character to the Don't Starve Together world, and it's none other than Croque Du Chevalier, the legendary animal hunter who was once a member of Team Bluebeard as well and served as one of our main leaders.
Croque Du Chevalier will be available for purchase soon after we run the Kickstarter campaign!
That's all the content we have planned for now! Stay tuned for more information on things like upcoming releases, giveaways, and other great things in the future.
Until next time,
The Bizzaro Team
Is there more than one wormwood?
So in the trailer showing off wormwood we see how the moon gem falls into hamlet's dense jungle only to have some vines grow around it (over several days presumably) and leading to wormwood showing up.
Now my main question is could multiple gems have fallen in different areas leading to the other skins of wormwood (cactus, rose, and hollow) being completely different characters altogether rather than a simple change in cosmetics.
Also on a side note wormwood is my favorite character and I just love how they Carol
Reputation Based Server
I notice that the current longest run server has ended its glorious days
pretty sad not yet having a chance to participate( maybe in future )
Argument
trapping portal would be have a little more protection against griefers ( although not 100% )
but also losing potential players at the same time
( that is pain more than gain )
I hope if Klei’s server could have at least one or exactly one reputation based server in most regions
How it works?
-
set reputation requirement for that server ( should be around 10~25, not too high, or too low )
-
whose reputation is under that requirement wouldn’t be able to join
What is reputation?
the impression from other players on you
player can give exactly one Positive/Negative impression to each player
Reputation = Positive - Negative
How to implement this in user interface?
IN-GAME:
1. design this as a button in menu where you can find players’ custom, details information
2. show the Positive/Negative impression if you gave to that player in the past
Not-IN-GAME:
show some logs about the impression you gave to players recently ( nice for able to change the impression if wrongly select)
Main points ( IMO )
1. this won't be pernament effect like banned from server
2. encourge people who want to have positive gameplay experience, result in more positive behaviours
3. bad reputation won't affect too much, ( banning a player from playing paid game is boring )
there are more and more "free to join" servers you may join aside from this only one reputation based server
4. positive reputation takes time to farm, ensure players to have experience
5. if griefers buy another DST copy and create new account to gain reputation, who cares? Klei get more funds, We get more events! Thanks ya Griefers!
Reasons Why I'm suggesting this
1. I enjoy playing with positive players most of the time, I believe I'm not the only one
2. Love having longer run as a challenge in Dedicated server which is survival mode
3. kidnap a server isn't thing I want to do, I will never do that
A little of my experience
I was one of griefers in the past, DST was in early access, why am I griefing at that time?
well because DST is new to me, it is strange and fun to do when first comes to me
( e.g. trying slaught all the beefalo, or just completely remove one unique resource from game by bare hands)
after having some experience, tryin cooperate with others and building a friendly base, maintaining friendly game for next players
I feel like it is challenging and more fun in that way, then entirely quit my griefing life
Is there a trick to quick unraveling?
Is there a way to unravel all duplicates in one move? Or anything other than going through my items and choosing to unravel each one singularly in a very time consuming way?
“Man I totally saved us” Experiences
Have you ever had a moment where you could say “Man I totally saved us!” If so I’d like to hear about it!
My experience was when I took an 8 day trip to retrieve the rock lobsters for worm defense. Along the course of the 8 days I suffered from starvation, insanity, and impatience. But it was all worth it in the end when I got the herd of 6 rock lobsters in their designated area. The worm attacks lately were pretty chill, but the next attack was massive in comparison! Luckily for us we were able to have the lobsters take care of them! And we knew that the attacks would only get bigger. Soon later we built a pen and safety room which we fortified and decorated! One of my teammates even told me,” You might have just secured our immortality down here.” (That made me feel extra good about myself!)
So in the end I feel like “Man I totally saved us!”
WormWoods sculpture quotes?
I don’t think the quotes he says are his. They seem more put together and “elegant” than the rest of his quotes.
It came off as odd to me.
What is The Forge?
So i started playing DST recently, still have no ******* clue what im doing but im somehow having fun while doing nothing, anyway whats The Forge?
Modded items/structures you wish were vanilla?
Just a simple question, what modded items or structures do you wish were official? Or you think would otherwise fit seamlessly into the vanilla game?
For me, I'd have to say the Nightmare Chest mod specifically, it would help significantly on public servers as long time survivors can keep important items out of reach of grieferes or newbies without hogging up their on hand inventory.
Discuss.
