hi there. i have many mods subscribed in the steamworkshop for DST. whenever there are updates for my subscribed mods, my steam client downloads them. but when i enter the game DST and click at the "Mod" tab, the button shows me the same amount of mods that needs to be updated as steam client already did. is there a particular reason why it happens twice? that happens every time since years now. I thought i should finally ask about this why it is like this. look at the attached images for reference.

Showing off your outfits [2]
Hi all. The old topic was archived in early 2017, but I thought it'd be a good idea to bring it back. There have been a ton of content since and quite a bit of skins. Personally I really enjoyed the Victorian collection but others were good as well. Well, if you got any cool outfit sets you wish to share - post it here!
I'll start
Colonel Woodie of The Royal Canadian Regiment
Shadow smith Winona
XIX century colonial governor Wilhelm P. Higgsenburgh
Severely beaten yet still dapper Wilson
Profile Icons
Can we get a minimum on how many profile icons we can get because, no ********, all 8 of my weekly presents these week were profile icons, and it’s ruining the game for me at this point. I used to be excited when I got a present but now I just say to myself, it’s just gonna be a profile icon. So can we tune down the profile icons, maybe make profile icons and portrait frames different from actual quality skin pieces?
As a main Wendy, I enjoyed this.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ it can't be worse
Winona Rework 2 Ideas
Spotlight - This thing is... pretty much useless.
Catapult -Too overpowered for cheesiness.
So what I think could be done:
Spotlight Moonlenses:
Use a Moonlens on a Spotlight to turn it into a coloured Moonlight:
Red - Heat (effectively creates a campfire on targeted player) - Targeting (seeks player and does effect on their position)
Blue - Cold (effectively creates an endofire on targeted player) - Targeting (seeks player and does effect on their position)
Green - Efficient (causes all plants in front of it to grow faster) - Floodlight (large (45-90 degrees) area in front of the Moonlight is affected. Right click Moonlight to turn it in one of the eight faces.
Orange - Lazy (any items on the ground in a circular radius around get put into any chests in the same radius.) - Circular (big radius around it, no targeting/special mechanics)
Purple - Nightmare (everything becomes corrupted for EVERYONE - animals go rabid if possible, go into beard forms (Beardlings/Beardmen), Were form, players in the light get Insanity effect, like Full Moon/Nightmare Cycle/Aporkalypse all in one handy package) - Floodlight (large (45-90 degrees) area in front of the Moonlight is affected. Right click Moonlight to turn it in one of the eight faces.
Yellow - Light (effectively normal spotlight, but can target infinite people at once with the power of... reflections! Perfect for a boss fight. - Targeting (seeks player and does effect on their position)
These could only be done by Engineer-tagged characters (specifically, putting the Moonlens on - Everything else is as normal) - This gives Winona additional utility and allows you to set up areas - For example, a Yellow Moonlight arena, or a Purple Moonlight farm, Green Moonlight greenhouse, Orange Moonlight by drop farms, and Red/Blue for general utility.
Catapult Changes:
1. Catapult no longer self-heals
2. Catapult can be repaired with Trusty Tape, but only by characters with the Engineer tag.
3. Requires rocks as ammo (perhaps it could use a chest as ammo if it's in the radius, meaning if it comes down to it you could use one ammo store for all of them - One slot inside catapult, too.)
The idea of these changes is to require Winona to be around as the team Engineer - and prevent spamming raid bosses to death in 3 seconds flat.
Other Changes:
1. Repair Broken Clockwork to fully working order with tape - Make them from the junk piles, and then an Engineer can repair with Tape to turn them into fully functional Clockwork that work for you. They could be far improved this way.
2. WX-78 can heal with tape - Maybe for just like 10hp or so. This makes Winona far more attractive because of the popularity of WX-78
3. Generators can be attacked by players - Doing this causes you to get the effects of being struck by lightning if it's powered. WX-78 gets overcharged, provided it has a day of power left (and zaps a day's worth)
4. Machines would break down after Rain - Requiring an engineer to fix them up (Winona with Trusty Tape)
5. Generators now have WAY higher aggro priority - So bosses will rip apart catapult farms from the core.
Winona Changes:
1. Prototyping items takes the full cost, only takes HALF cost after this (anything that can't be prototyped, this doesn't apply to.)
2. Keep her free hit from Charlie.
3. 1-10% - 0.75x craft speed | 11-90% - variable craft time (similar to wolfgang stats) | 91-100% - 2x craft speed - Hunger varies her crafting rate.
4. No hunger taken on craft.
5. Efficient harvesting - Most "DoLongAction" get changed to Medium (0.5s instead of 1s)
6. Engineer tag
7. Change perks/title to:
The Engineer
*Is an efficient worker
*Master of machinery and gadgets
*Gets one free hit from the dark
Engineer Tag:
Engineers are masters of machines, and as such would be able to tweak, fix, etc. Winona's machines, and vice versa. At current, Winona would be the only Engineer - But for example, Wagstaff from Hamlet would absolutely be considered an engineer.
In addition, mods could add Engineer characters.
This is the equivalent to "reader" - Something Maxwell has, allowing him to interact with Wickerbottom's books. The equivalent here is allowing them to interact with Winona's machines.
Wilson Rework Ideas
Wilson, being a little bit of a crazy scientist at heart, would lend himself perfectly to an Alchemist rework.
Alchemy Tab
1. Alchemy Table (generic desk with an open book, potions, etc. Very fantasy-esque) - 3 Boards, 1 Purple Gem, 2 Papyrus
2. Beard Hair (it's.. beard hair) - Nightmare Fuel x2
3. Nightmare Fuel - Evil Petals x4 (Removed from ordinary Magic refine)
Alchemy Table
If you have the "Alchemist" tag, you'd be able to utilise the Alchemy table. It would open a UI where you can:
1. View all the gems in your inventory (box on the right)
2. Transmute gems (put two onto the table to combine into a new one) - Costs nightmare fuel - Red/Blue - Purple, Blue/Yellow - Green, Red/Yellow - Orange (and so forth, based off the colours of the gems directly)
3. Impurify gems (turn them into other materials, for example Orange Gems into Desert Stones) - Gain 2 nightmare fuel and 2 of the impure form/
4. Purify gems (change the other materials into gems, for example Desert Stones into Orange Gems - Costs 2x nightmare fuel gained by impurifying.
5. Putting the Celestial Orb by the alchemy table (you must be in range of both) allows you to combine gems into an Iridescent gem for: One of every gem - 5 Nightmare fuel - 3 Moonrock (logically, the Moonrock is an impure Iridescent gem)
6. Impurify the Iridescent gem for impure forms of every gem at once, and a moonrock - Only get ONE of each impure form.
Impure Gems:
1. Fire Stone - Similar to Obsidian - Created by impurifying a Red Gem, or potentially obtained in the Caves or via Ancient Gateway (from Forge, lore-wise) - This is literally the Obsidian you see in SW, but named to fit the theme here.
2. Water Stone - Similar to Ice (doesn't melt - Created by impurifying a Blue Gem, or potentially obtained in the Caves or via Ancient Gateway (from Gorge, lore-wise - This is because it's called the Water portal)
3. Nightmare Stone - Similar to Nightmare Fuel (it's basically concentrated nightmare fuel) - Created by impurifying a Purple Gem, or obtained in the Ruins during nightmare phase.
4. Electro Stone - Similar to a powered wire - Created by impurifying a Yellow Gem, or obtained from the Ancient Gateway (no explanation)
5. Desert Stone - Similar to.. sand? - Created by impurifying an Orange Gem, or obtained from the Antlion.
6. Nature Stone - Similar to a hard log - Created by impurifying a Green Gem, or potentially obtained via Ancient Gateway (from Hamlet, lore-wise - It's very "Green gem" themed.)
New Recipes:
Obsidian Staff - Works similarly to the Forge's red staff (a ranged weapon) - but can be casted to create a fire meteor (no drops) - Uses appearance of SW's Volcano Staff- does 25 damage normally, 50 damage to enemies that are on fire - . - Fire Staff, 3 Fire Stones, 2 Nightmare Fuel
Obsidian Armor - Same as in SW - Log Suit, 3 Fire Stones, 2 Nightmare Fuel
Watered Staff- Works similarly to Forge's staffs (a ranged weapon) - this applies wetness to the mob on impact - but can be casted to create rain in the area - This puts out ALL fires in the area and synergises with the Morning Star - does 25 damage normally, 50 damage to frozen enemies - Ice Staff, 3 Water Stones, 2 Nightmare Fuel
Watered Armor - Applies wetness to every mob that hits you, and also freezes them (one hit on you = one Ice Staff blast) - Log Suit, 3 Water Stones, 2 Nightmare Fuel
Nightmare Staff - Works similarly to Forge's staffs (a ranged weapon) - this lowers their sanity (if a player) and summons little fuelweaver minions that crawl back to you (if they don't die, for ex. from AOE attacks, you get some hp) = does 40 damage on attack - Telelocator Staff, 3 Nightmare Stones, 2 Nightmare Fuel
Nightmare Armor - Lowers the damage against you by 2, AFTER applying the effects of armour. Can't cancel out damage, however. - Lowers sanity of any players who attack you - Log Suit, 3 Nightmare Stones, 2 Nightmare Fuel
Electro Staff - Works similarly to Forge's staffs (a ranged weapon) - electrocutes them on impact - Can be casted to cause huge AOE of chain lightning - 25 dmg normally, 50 against wet mobs (attack) - double that for chain lightning - Star Caller's Staff, 3 Electro Stones, 2 Nightmare Fuel
Electro Armor - When attacked, effectively strikes both attacker AND you with lightning. Wear a rain hat! - Log Suit, 3 Electro Stones, 2 Nightmare Fuel
Desert Staff - Works similarly to Forge's staffs (a ranged weapon) - slows them for a time on impact - Can be casted to create a circular barrier around the area you cast from Sand Spikes - enemies would have to break these to reach you. - 40 damage - Lazy Explorer, 3 Desert Stones, 2 Nightmare Fuel
Desert Armor - Dunno - Log Suit - 3 Desert Stones, 2 Nightmare Fuel
Nature Staff - Works similarly to Forge's healing staff - can attack other players to heal them (regardless of pvp setting) for 2hp each time - Can be casted to create an area of Life Blossoms - 20 damage - Deconstruction Staff, 3 Nature Stones, 2 Nightmare Fuel
Nature Armor - Dunno - Log Suit, 3 Nature Stones, 2 Nightmare Fuel
Small Changes:
1. Purple Gems can't be crafted with 1 Red, 1 Blue gem by anybody anymore. Must be made via Alchemy.and transmutation.
2. Nightmare fuel can't be crafted with 4 Evil Petals by anybody anymore. Must be made by Wilson in Alchemy tab.
3. Alchemist Tag - All alchemists can utilise the Alchemy table to it's full extent. Non-alchemists
Other:
1. All impure gem forms can be obtained by anybody via the Ruins
2. Anybody can craft the "New Recipes"
3. Any alchemist tagged character can utilise the table - Maxwell is likely befitting this tag.
4. Wilson effectively functions as a shortcut, especially for newer players, to get gems and the new recipes.
5. Wilson was designed as a character for new players, and so that's the intention behind this - While remaining relevant for good players, too.
6. I did not change Wilson's stats or inherent perks or downsides because I think that'd be totally unnecessary to his idea.
Crockpot Rework Ideas
Removals:
1. Crockpots
2. Farm Plots
New Additions:
1. Oven (4 slots)
2. Grill (4 slots)
3. Cookpot (4 slots)
4. Farm Turf (same as in Gorge, but instead has pebbles (similarly to farmplots do now) around the edges
5. Mealing Stone (craftable structure)
6. Salt Ponds (spawn in Rocky or Mosaic biomes)
7. Beefalo Milk (and ability to Milk them + Volt Goats)
8. Hoe
9. All of the Gorge Seeds
10. Sugarwood biome
11. Sammy & Pipton - Merm traders - Now missing their clothes, just hats. Older one has lost all faculties and just speaks like merms now. - Buy seeds from them with Gold.
12. Mumsy - Goat trader - Spawns in Sugarwood biome with Billy - Buy Milk from them with Gold
Changes:
1. Food can't burn at all.
How to play:
1. Buy stuff from Mumsy or Sammy/Pipton
2. Grow seeds on tilled farm turf (use a hoe on it)
3. Place an oven/grill/cookpot over a campfire and fuel it
4. Put all the stuff into the oven/grill/cookpot and simply cook it.
This would have all the recipes of the Gorge, and possibly some old Crockpot recipes.
Absolutely NO ice in recipes at all.
No monster meat in recipes, except Monster recipes.
Worlds with crockpots still in them would continue to function - Especially due to the lack of Sugarwood, Mumsy, Sammy or Pipton.
Possible:
1. Beefalo Collars
2. Slaughter Tool for collared beefalo
Wortox Ideas
Gem Deer:
Wortox should be able to make chains for Gem Deer
This allows ANYONE to put a gem into the Deer (person who put the gem in becomes it's owner)
The deer will then fight for them.
Abilities:
Red - See Klaus
Blue - See Klaus
Purple - Nightmare Portal, not sure what it could do
Orange - Sinkhole
Green - Life Blossoms (casted on player in fight, not enemy in fight)
Yellow - Light somehow (when it turns to night for Player)
Krampus Sack:
Wortox should spawn with a Krampus Sack, cus he's a Krampus. Owned.
Metheus Puzzle not working?
So I think I have encountered a bug in part 2 of the puzzle. I logged in both accounts with incognito Chrome windows and strictly followed the strategy here (attached) and I found no matter which spot I placed my walking cane symbol (sth like '木') in with my partner placed all black blocks correspond to "1", the light bulbs never switch on. In fact, the puzzle was totally fine at the beginning, until after a few times of reset (due to pressing the blue button for too many time..), we can never see any light bulb again. Can someone help, please?
Running a world on 1 shard
Hi, i've been wanting to play dst with caves enabled for a while and i always seem to get incredible amounts of lag. I know that the reason why caves cause lag is because your computer must run to shards at once so i've been wondering if you could run a world with caves enabled on only 1 shard.
thanks

Winona Character Update & Drop System Changes
Hey everyone!
Today’s a big day for Don’t Starve Together. We have quite a few things to talk about today, from Winona’s character refresh, to some lore content, to a drastic increase in drop rates.
Here we go!
Next of Kin
Every character has their story, and with each refresh, we will be revealing a bit more of their past. See what memories Winona has to share with you here:
Winona Refresh
Winona has been hard at work since landing in the Constant, and she’s invented a couple new ingenious tools! She can now construct a catapult to keep enemies at bay, as well as a spotlight to keep her and her friends safe from Charlie. Both of these gadgets are powered by her new portable generators.
Unfortunately, her hardworking nature may get the better of her and she may work up an appetite without proper planning.
We’re also launching the new Industrious skin for Winona, an Industrial-themed item set, and the classic Guest of Honor, Triumphant, Survivor and Rose skins are now all available for purchase. All owners of these classic skins prior to today are now upgraded to an “Heirloom” rarity, with full unraveling value (that is, an Heirloom Elegant can be unraveled for 1350 spool).
New Drop System
In addition to these new skins, we are announcing drastically improved drop rates for everyone.
We want to make sure that players are able to earn skins and new characters in a reasonable amount of time. They previously could not so we felt the drop rate needed to be revised to reflect that. We are starting this new drop system before the first new character to give everybody a nice head start to earn spool before it’s release.
The first thing we are doing is providing a daily item bonus. Each day you play, you will receive a drop simply by logging in. Secondly, we are doubling the amount of timed drops that are given per week to 8, up from the previous 4. Along with the daily item bonus, players can now receive a total of 15 items per week, nearly 4 times the previous amount.
And finally, we have increased the frequency of elegants and other rare items in the drop table.
Our previous drop rates were as follows:
- Common: 68%
- Classy: 23.00%
- Spiffy: 6.00%
- Distinguished: 2.50%
- Elegant: 0.50%
Today, the drop rates are:
- Common: 52.7%
- Classy: 26.0%
- Spiffy: 13.0%
- Distinguished: 6.0%
- Elegant: 2.3%
Console Purchases
We finally have consoles able to purchase skins! This is a first step, we would like to be able to offer parity between PC and console on skins, but there are some technical details in order for us to support many different packages.
In the meantime, we’ve made the following bundles available for purchase:
- Complete Gorge Chest
- Magmatic Bundle
- Winona Deluxe
- Contenders Promo Chest
Upcoming
We have lots more in store! Our first new character is launching later this month, new Twitch items are coming next week, and the first pass of our new content is coming in April.
Enjoy!
New Update Speculiatons
Hey, I think that the Ancient Atrium in the picture from the What´s next thread resembles Shadow Creatures coming to Constant and we didnt had a "Sanity" update in a few years so i think the next update will be about New Worlds and Shadows. What do you think ?
Don't Starve Together Roadmap 2019
Hello everyone!
It’s been a while since I’ve made a post here, I’d like to share with you our plans for 2019, which are extensive!
First, I’d like to recap what happened in 2017/2018:
In 2017 we launched the Forge, and followed it up in 2018 with the Gorge. The idea was that we could offer a new way of playing Don’t Starve Together, in a limited-time format. We were a bit burned out on creating DST core game content and this format allowed us to try something a bit different, so we made these crazy game modes and provided them to the community for free.
Every time we launched these events, tons of players came to play, and in every instance we hit our highest ever DST concurrency. We’re super thrilled that so many people came to play the our weird game events!
While we enjoyed the events and are happy with the result, there were some drawbacks:
- They took WAY longer to make than we expected, so we weren’t able to make as much content as we wanted, and it left little time to do things like bug fixes and Quality of Life updates for the base game.
- Because we run the servers for these events, we also incurred the cost of these servers. Those of you who have been here a while know that Don’t Starve was not architected to be a multiplayer game, so running them on our servers was extremely inefficient. In short, even though we loved that everyone came to play, the item sales were only barely covering the costs of the servers.
- We found that it was exceedingly difficult for us to run these events on console and as such underserved our console players.
It has been a valuable experience and we think the game is better for it, however we feel that it’s time that we turn our attention back to the core Don’t Starve Together experience: surviving together.
Here’s what we’re doing for 2019:
Brand New Content
The team is now working on brand new content for Don’t Starve Together. Survivors will be able to travel to new lands with new biomes, creatures, and more.
The first drop of this new content will come in mid-April, and we will continually be adding to the content every couple months afterward. As we said before, we think it’s important that everyone can play together and we don’t segregate our audience, so all of this content will be available for free to everyone!
Character Refreshes
The team also felt it was high time we gave our core cast some love (yes, we heard you). Over the course of the next year, we will be bestowing every character with revamped abilities, and give a glimpse into their backstory. Our goals here are to make each character unique, interesting and valuable in their own right and we expect this to be game changing in many ways.
Starting in March with Winona, we will be releasing a character refresh once a month.
These character refreshes will again be free to all players, and we will be selling new skins for these characters on the month they are refreshed.
In addition, the Triumphant, Guest of Honor and Survivor skin packs will be available to purchase for the character on that date. All owners of these skins prior to that date will be upgraded to an “Heirloom” rarity, with a higher unraveling value.
New Characters Enter the Fray
A fresh batch of four characters have been unwittingly ensnared and brought into the world. These new survivors will be released into the wild starting in Mid-March, and a new one will be released every 2 months.
We are still deciding the final price of these characters, but we currently think they will be $6.99 USD each, which includes a full character skin set. You will also be able to weave the characters with spool.
Since we do not want to charge players for the new world content, these new characters will be our main way to fund development of this new content.
Console Development
We are working hard on keeping the console versions of the game up to date. Specifically, we are investing in technology to allow us to more quickly update the game without going through lengthy certification on every small change, and we've also added more staff to work exclusively on updating the console versions.
We're happy to say that the next update for the Year of the Pig King event will launch within 2 days of the PC version.
Quality of Life, Twitch Drops, Etc.
We will also be continually updating the game with bug fixes, QoL updates, new skins for Twitch drops, and more things that we’re not quite ready to announce yet.
Speaking of which, the Year of the Pig King update is going live on Thursday! Long Live the (Pig) King!
--
And that’s it folks!
In short, we are significantly increasing our support of Don’t Starve Together in 2019 with new game content, character refreshes, new stories to be told, new characters, and new skins.
Thanks so much for playing this crazy game, once again. I’m still amazed at how it’s evolved over the years. Please give us your feedback and thoughts!
Wortox ideas
I had an idea for wortox
i will say them in a numbered format

On Base Locations
Hi all!
Out of curiosity, i would like to ask what you guys' preferred base locations are! Do answer and leave your reasons in the comments!
The "problem" with ds/t announces
I have no idea what's happening in Klei so what I'm about to say may not even be correct. ...I mean in some places it will be but in some not.
Klei teases something (Hamlet roadmap, Wortox, etc) and gives us somewhat a date. Be it exact date or "mid-March".
Then, as I unfortunatelly have to say, something quite common happens: They're late, date gets pushed and impatient side of community gets angry.
This has happened b4 and the best example is Hamlet itself. It was (correct if I'm wrong) supposed to be released by 2018 June… open beta happened in September. Right now it's Hamlet's roadmap and Wortox. Both were supposed to start/release mid-March. Mid-March is here (and starts to end) and Hamlet finally got an update with content. If Klei however releases Wortox tomorrow then it's all good, cuz they kept the date.
What I'm trying to say is:
Klei you don't need to push yourself so much. Before you announce anything, especially if you're going to add date make sure that that something is done.
I'm patient so don't take this as personal but I'm sure there're more impatient people in this community than there're patient ones.
And it's just not working out, announcing something that won't be done by the date you've announced.
Any more changes to Winona?
The hunger drain was really the main reason players hated her. Now it seems like none cares too much because it's a non-issue almost, despite catapults staying as is? The spotlight mechanic was tuned to work better for multiple players, but remember that the character isn't really desirable to play as still, unless the faster crafting is something that you would constantly want to take advantage of, but is that worth not picking a more powerful character? For mega base building? That's very situational even then, no? She seems very much like a pick-and-drop character still, just more bearable to play with. The 5 special craftables as we have seen are a bit problematic for a multiplayer environment because of this, so I really think mechanic-based approach rather than entirely craftables approach for character reworks should be done, and in a way that's quite significant.
I've proposed my suggestions before for her character. They are not really of my own, but I do think they would be great for her character.
1) Crafting with half the costs
2) Tape to repair weapons and armor
3) Faster harvesting along with the faster crafting
4) Slower crafting, slower movement speed, slower harvesting and crafting with normal costs when hungry
5) Increased hunger rate rather than a set hunger point drain with a minute cooldown?
But what do others really think right now? Any changes that you would want to tune Winona more? What do you think of the suggested above?
