Hey everyone, as you may have heard, starting last week, we now host two weekly livestreams on the official Klei Twitch channel

I have noticed that some find it correct that Winona loses so much hunger to construction, because it is enough to build when she is hungry. And that the fact that it is slow is the right counterweight to the benefits. Just as it is right that the generators run out without the possibility of turning them off, which serves to compensate for the great potential of the catapults (on the spotlights I prefer to keep a dignified reserve).

The point is that these things make using Winona harder... but also more boring. It is boring to constantly recharge the generators, it is boring having to wait seconds and seconds for each individual construction, it is boring having to feed Winona with small bites because you do not start to consume calories in a pathological way.

Now, I wonder, is it really necessary to make aspects of a frustrating character just to "balance" it?

Webber is fun to play against pigs and rabbits. With Woorwood it is curious to have to take care of nature instead of destroying it. With Wicker it is interesting to find new strategies to stay sane. With Woodie it's fun to become a beaver... no, not at all. Poor Woddie.

However, we understood: if Winona needs some flaws to balance the advantages... please, Klei, think of something that is still stimulating and pushes the player to play differently and more interestingly ;)

Love the Winona Changes

Like the titles says i adore the new Winona changes. Having access to some pretty cool and very useful unique items is i think a great fit, and something she was missing before when she only had fast crafting and duct tape which was just mildly easier to make sewing kits. Now she has something that sets her apart that only she can bring to the table that also can benefit not just her when playing but other characters playing with her, which is perfect for a cooperative based game like dst.

It in my opinion urges cooperation and character diversification.
For example characters that also has something like this being wicker bottom with her books being able to help grow grass and twigs and make tentacles renewable which helps out everyone, Or wigfrid being able to craft better spears and armor not just for herself but for everyone making her a valuable character to have when playing with others, even if most people wouldn't rank her that well just on her own.
I could keep going with other characters but i think my point is made, Winona is great because her inventions can help save other players from darkness in a pinch, or be a overwhelming asset in boss battles specifically the bulkier ones, which again helps out everyone playing!

Hope i wasn't too redundant in this but i think it gets why i think this change was great across.

When do Daily Items refresh?

I'm not sure this is a bug so I'm hesitant to put it in the bug forums. However, I just tried logging in and I noticed I didn't get my Daily item for today. Should I have or has it just not refreshed to the new daily drop yet?

HELP, my triumphant skin didnt become heirloom quality

I've had a triumphant webber skin for years now and was super excited to have it a special rarity and now it didnt even upgrade? Anyone else's skins didnt get upgraded to heirloom? Where can i contact klei about this?

I have 800 hours in don't starve but I don't know much about DST, would prefer to play with someone I can learn from that also has a good amount of time to play.

I stopped playing after Klei added Dragon Fly just because I'm more into solo play. But I'd really like to unlock skins and also experience all the new content in DST. I'm fine playing with up to four people, it's my favorite number (lol) and I don't want chat to get too overwhelming. So if you have friends, they are welcome.

Please have a decent mic and Discord! I'd prefer people around my age, no younger than 18 please, I'm 24. I work night shift but this week I'm working mornings. I'm off today so I'll be on till about 11am. My time zone is EST, Florida.

If you play with me you're required to use geometric placement and shovel up tree stumps. Sorry, I just can't stand seeing those around, and I can't stand berry bushes placed all weird etc.

I'm willing to remove some mods or retweak if you feel like some options aren't necessary. But I don't want to add anything else, I will consider it though.

I don't like using anything too game changing. Tweaks: No Disease... Caves Enabled (Obviously)

Don't Starve Together Roadmap 2019

Hello everyone!

It’s been a while since I’ve made a post here, I’d like to share with you our plans for 2019, which are extensive!

First, I’d like to recap what happened in 2017/2018:
In 2017 we launched the Forge, and followed it up in 2018 with the Gorge. The idea was that we could offer a new way of playing Don’t Starve Together, in a limited-time format. We were a bit burned out on creating DST core game content and this format allowed us to try something a bit different, so we made these crazy game modes and provided them to the community for free.

Every time we launched these events, tons of players came to play, and in every instance we hit our highest ever DST concurrency. We’re super thrilled that so many people came to play the our weird game events!

While we enjoyed the events and are happy with the result, there were some drawbacks: 

  • They took WAY longer to make than we expected, so we weren’t able to make as much content as we wanted, and it left little time to do things like bug fixes and Quality of Life updates for the base game.
  • Because we run the servers for these events, we also incurred the cost of these servers. Those of you who have been here a while know that Don’t Starve was not architected to be a multiplayer game, so running them on our servers was extremely inefficient. In short, even though we loved that everyone came to play, the item sales were only barely covering the costs of the servers.
  • We found that it was exceedingly difficult for us to run these events on console and as such underserved our console players.

It has been a valuable experience and we think the game is better for it, however we feel that it’s time that we turn our attention back to the core Don’t Starve Together experience: surviving together. 

Here’s what we’re doing for 2019:

Brand New Content
The team is now working on brand new content for Don’t Starve Together. Survivors will be able to travel to new lands with new biomes, creatures, and more. 

The first drop of this new content will come in mid-April, and we will continually be adding to the content every couple months afterward. As we said before, we think it’s important that everyone can play together and we don’t segregate our audience, so all of this content will be available for free to everyone!

Character Refreshes
The team also felt it was high time we gave our core cast some love (yes, we heard you). Over the course of the next year, we will be bestowing every character with revamped abilities, and give a glimpse into their backstory. Our goals here are to make each character unique, interesting and valuable in their own right and we expect this to be game changing in many ways.

Starting in March with Winona, we will be releasing a character refresh once a month.

These character refreshes will again be free to all players, and we will be selling new skins for these characters on the month they are refreshed. 

In addition, the Triumphant, Guest of Honor and Survivor skin packs will be available to purchase for the character on that date. All owners of these skins prior to that date will be upgraded to an “Heirloom” rarity, with a higher unraveling value.

New Characters Enter the Fray
A fresh batch of four characters have been unwittingly ensnared and brought into the world. These new survivors will be released into the wild starting in Mid-March, and a new one will be released every 2 months.

We are still deciding the final price of these characters, but we currently think they will be $6.99 USD each, which includes a full character skin set. You will also be able to weave the characters with spool.

Since we do not want to charge players for the new world content, these new characters will be our main way to fund development of this new content.

Console Development
We are working hard on keeping the console versions of the game up to date. Specifically, we are investing in technology to allow us to more quickly update the game without going through lengthy certification on every small change, and we've also added more staff to work exclusively on updating the console versions.

We're happy to say that the next update for the Year of the Pig King event will launch within 2 days of the PC version.


Quality of Life, Twitch Drops, Etc.
We will also be continually updating the game with bug fixes, QoL updates, new skins for Twitch drops, and more things that we’re not quite ready to announce yet. 

Speaking of which, the Year of the Pig King update is going live on Thursday! Long Live the (Pig) King!

Weird Headcannons

I just sometimes imagine how one character might interact with another and I laugh out loud. Than people wonder why I'm laughing, and dang ain't that awkward.

Anyway, wondering if people do the same thing, and if so, what do they imagine characters doing? XD.

 

I mean things like,

  • Wendy is the closest thing WX has as a friend among the survivors due to her morbid views on life.
  • Wolfgang thinks the reason Maxwell is so grumpy is because he wasn't hugged enough as a child. He tries to rectify this by giving Maxwell bear-hugs.
  • Wilson and Maxwell constantly attempt to one-up each other with science and magic respectively. This usually ends up bringing a lot of trouble to the group.
  • Wes likes hanging out with Wigfrid the most because he thinks of her as a fellow actor just dedicated to her roll, like he is.

You know, silly small things like that. Anyone else here?

So, err... Next of Kin sure is a thing! It’s really dense and I’m building mental conspiracy cork boards to rival Winona’s. I just need to dump some ideas out where they’re available to get a hand cutting the ones I haven’t noticed are contradictory and to link some more things together.

Dear Winona,

How are you?! Congratulations on the new job! I k[new] you would find something soon. Have you settled in alright? Are you taking care of yourself?

I’m still here in San Fran and things are going well. My magic act partner has taught me so much about showmanship in such a short time. I think you two would really get along! You’re both very stubborn. Haha!

The most interesting thing here is the information that Winona and Charlie got jobs around the same time. Okay, the most interesting part is that it’s more character development for Charlie, but that’s not going to be connected to much other lore.

 

The Factory’s Location

See? Right in the corner of that card? It says “Sydney, OHI” before being blocked by the “GAIN ACCESS TO VOXOLA” note. It seems to me that the voxola factory is in  Sydney, Ohio. (Wait, I’ve encountered an old Kevin quote and we already knew that... Shoot.)

 

Wickerbottom’s Entry Point:

The short seems to suggest that the door Winona found started a fire. In addition, she considers the New York library burning to be significant. It’s a reasonable guess to say that this is Wickerbottom’s library. While I’m not the first to say this, I haven’t seen anyone else mention that the headline is dated. March 29th, 1911. This makes her an early entry, given that the time for entry was 1910-1921 according to that one post from Kevin in 2014.

The real life San Francisco earthquake was on April 18. The Chronicles’ headline basically proves this to be the case in DS/T. If that’s the case, it raises a strange, annoying and probably fruitless and meaningless question: Why was Charlie last seen on the 17th, the day before the show? The best solution I can come up with is that no audience members survived the show. Perhaps they’re the skeletons we see littering the ground. I like that idea. New headcanon.

 

I vaguely remember having other ideas, but my brain is about to putrefact and spill out my ears (I’m sure it shows here) if I don’t go to bed. I’m tired.

Hello everyone! I would like to create a mod character, but i wan't it to be balanced and at the same time consistent with the spirit and the lore of Don't Starve Together. If anyone has any advice or opinions I would be happy to hear them!

"THE COURIER"

Motto: "We affirm that the world’s magnificence has been enriched by a new beauty: the beauty of speed. A racing car whose hood is adorned with great pipes, like serpents of explosive breath—a roaring car that seems to ride on grapeshot is more beautiful than the Victory of Samothrace."

Curio Cabinet Bio: Become a courier was just a pretext to escape from boredom, and in the Constant there is really no time to get bored.

Perk: 

  • The olympic sacred fire burns in her.
  • She has very large pockets
  • She has a granitic code of ethics

Health: 150

Hunger: 150 Hunger Modifier: Loses 33% less hunger than a normal character for minute.

Sanity: 200 

 

"The Courier" is new character of Don't Starve Together! With an exuberant and tragicomic personality, the courier had been asked to deliver a letter from two twins to their uncle "William". Not finding him in this world, she did not hesitate to enter the Constant to find it and fulfil the task. The mail must arrive, and it will arrive!

Normally "the courier" runs 33% faster than a normal character and consumes 33% less hunger. She is a character thought to be a nomad, so she travels fast and has a slow metabolism.

"I'm not used to eating meat, it's the food of the rich. Am I rich, now?" (When examining meatballs)

"Never seen so much meat at once!! I'm not a courier, I'm a butcher!" (When examining the meat stew)

"Small, colorful, tempting... how much I wanted you as a child..." (When examining sweets)

"The Courier" begins with an inventory containing the "Letter of the twins". This object has no durability and has no uses. It can be equipped, allowing access to the tab: "Courier Tab" (with an image of a compass behind a letter).

The Courier tab allows to craft:

  • Multi-purpose tool: It is the union of a shovel, a pickaxe and an axe. It has 1000 durability and is 50% faster when cutting trees or mincing stones. It makes 30 of damage. Recipe of construction: 1 golden shovel, 1 golden pickaxe, 1 golden axe.

"Things are quick or not done" (when examining the multipurpose tool)

  • Subterranean tunnel: It's like an artificial worm hole. Two must be built in different parts of the world for it to function (or on the surface or in the Caves). Once connected, you can enter the tunnel to exit on the opposite side, with a loss of 15 of hunger. Construction recipe (for each entrance): 1 multipurpose tool, 4 wooden boards, 4 worked stones.

"Now the constant can boast a subway!" (when examining the underground tunnel entrance)

  • Courier's bag: It has 28 spaces inside. Construction recipe: 1 sewing kit, 4 pig skins, 4 spider webs. Only "the courier" can equip it, the other characters will say that they do not know how to carry a bag so bulky.

"Without spacious bags I seem to suffocate!" (When examining a courier bag)

  • Packaging paper: It is used to pack a structure and put it in the inventory. Ideal when moving. Recipe of construction: 4 papyrus, 4 strings. You can use it multiple times.

"If I can carry pieces of wall in my pockets, I can take a workbench with me as well, as I love my spacious pockets" (When looking at the packaging paper)

  • Laurel wreath: When worn on the head, it runs 25% faster. It lasts 10 days before rotting. It gives +2 sanity per minute. Not for rain or damage protection. Recipe of construction: 12 flowers, 4 twigs.

"I feel  the sacred fire of the Olympics in me burning! A torch to me!!" (When examining a laurel wreath)

 

Disadvantages

"The courier" has a strict code of ethics.

  • Then she will refuse to attack pigs, bunnymans and other players until they become hostile.

"I do not know if these pigs are people or beasts, but for me they are human enough" (When examining a pig)

  • Every time she kills a pig or a bunnyman, she loses 25 of sanity.

"Maybe there was an alternative... I'm a courier, not a butcher..." (comments when she kills one of the two creatures)

  • Whenever she kills another player he loses 80 of sanity.

"I'm a courier, not a killer... I'm a courier, not a killer... I'm a courier, not a killer..." (She comments hysterically when she kills another player)

  • Not only that: every time she perpetrates an action that increases the naughtiness of the player, she will lose 5 of sanity. If her naughtiness rises above 15, she will refuse to perform other similar actions until her naughtiness is again below the threshold. (Yes, this makes it difficult for her to summon Krampus, but she does not need his bag).

"Poverty has not made me a criminal, neither does the Constant" (She comments when she reaches the threshold of naughtiness she can bear).

 

Conclusions: The courier is designed as a character for the most impatient players, who cannot stand dead times and want to focus on exploration more than anything else. Fast and efficient, the perfect adventurer in the strange worlds of the Constant!

"You are a strange child, you speak very well, can you write well?" (When examining Wendy)

"I am curious to know what is written inside, but I can not really open it: it would not be deontologically correct!" (When she examines the letter from the twins)

What about year of the Pig King?

So year of the pk has apparently ended without any mention from Klei (unless I missed it).

In the 2019 roadmap JoeW said that the year of the pk would be a permament content added to the game. This probably meant that we can ennable it in worldsettings. But after the even pigs still spawn with golden belts (according to wiki now they have 5% to do that) which means that we can still get golden belts. Except that they're useless now since Pig King doesn't do minigame anymore.

So basically we ended up with another useless item that'll litter the base or be fed to lureplant

World Seed issue

Me and my girlfriend have been trying to figure out for the longest time how to duplicate a world and use it for later use. I'm NOT talking about the save file. We were able to get the world seed number but now we don't know where to put the number. We wanted to do this because we really liked the world we were in but now we don't know how to save it and use it as a fresh new one in that same exact fixture whenever we want. 

If you can help thanks in advance.

Say for instance if we want to start new characters and play on that same world again we don't know how to. But we have the world seed number from the Lua text file. We just want to know where we have to put it. We've already tried DST Seed injector but that seems to just be for ps4

Sup everyone !

 

As we all know, the Winona refresh is here and she have some really cool new stuff, her catapult is freakin' insane and that spotlight is just so funny !

I like the new Winona, the balancing is great, building stuff is now a tricky job... so you better let your Wilson buddy build the tons of ropes if you don't want to consume all the meatballs of the group... anyway :wilsondisapproving: It's neat !

 

BUT, even if Winona's machines are cool, one problem remains: YOU NEED THE POWER !

We can afford nitres or gems, it's not a problem, but imagine if you want to light a road in night with the spotlights, you'll first need to feed the generators

(each damn generator)

AND next enjoy it... for a day ? I feel like the new machines are only usable on a main base and not in next door farm.

 

So what do we have ? A nitre generator than last a day (if you only use a single machine on it) and the gem one than is kinda more expensive in ressource for a better length and the same range... To me the problem is than both need to be powered by a player

 

Don't you think we should have a natural generator ?

I'm not sure if someone already had the idea of using the lightning stored in lightning rod to power up the Winona's machine but when you see this quote, it seems so logic than it may works ^^

So I don't know if that is a suggestion or anything but I wanted to share you my point of view about that stuff, enjoy the game !

 

What you would like to see with the upcoming character changes?

Exactly what the title says. Just what you would like to see, no matter how farfetched. For example, here's an idea I had for Maxwell.

Scrap his dapperness, and replace it with a new item, his box of cigars. You can use this to get a cigar, which takes off 10% of the boxes durability. The cigar can be smoked, which regains sanity at a 15 per min rate, gives off a small light radius similar (maybe even smaller) to that of a thermal stone, and raises player heat by like, 1c. The box requires 3 charcoal, 5 grass, and 2 papyrus to craft, and is exclusive to Maxwell in the "dress" tab.
