The Actual Value of an Elegant

When the Forge rolled around it's safe to say I was rather surprised by the new store system which had been implemented. I'd heard the rumors, but the actual introduction of the spool system and store came as a welcomed surprise. However, I did take note of the fact that the store was selling skins directly, a practice which is certainly more morally grounded than the market and also gives us more information than initially realized. Let's break it down:

When a player purchases a skin set (we'll be using the individual pricing sets for this post), they pay $2.99 for a character's entire set of skins. This isn't just the elegant, but also includes the distinguished body skin, the spiffy pants, spiffy gloves, and finally, the classy shoes. Many people will arbitrarily set the value of the elegant at the $2.99 marker however this actually isn't accurate, as we have to account for the elegant item's value in terms of relation to the other items in the set.

When balanced for the spool scale (Classy=45, Spiffy=150, Distinguished=450, Elegant=1300) we can calculate the total spools a set contains and how much we can partition off to the elegant itself. Then we can take that number and compare it to the total spools and price to get the actual money value of the elegant by itself. All in all, one 3 dollar set contains 2095 spools of cost value, 1300 which can be attributed to the elegant. That means the percentage of the initial cost that can be attributed to the elegant is 1300/2095 spools, or about 62%. 62% of 2.99 is approximately One dollar and eighty five cents,

Ok, so why does this matter?

This is important because when we actually compare what Klei themselves values the elegant skins at, compared to what the market prices them at, we can see a significant disparage between the two. If elegants were being sold at their actual value then we wouldn't be seeing the ridiculous prices we have today.

I'm not trying to make any major statements on the morality of the market in this post, I'll let the numbers speak for themselves and the reader decide that. I just want to make sure people are informed. Note: If I were to balance this based on the larger packs we'd see the elegant valued at less, however this wouldn't be privy to this post as it is focusing on individual pricing.

This game needs more overalls and or pajamas?

We are a group of 4 Wolfgang players and we each have an overall color but we need 1 more color to make it a four group thing or at least 6 since, 6 is the magic number of ppl can be in one game, i was wondering if klei should introduce green and blue overalls, yellow and purple overalls, and purple and black overalls.

This will make play an all Wolfgang server extremely fun, basically we are trying to get the four swords (legend of zelda) feeling, but with overalls and maybe more other colored pajamas? 

What do you guys think? should there be more colored skins that are popular like pajamas and overalls?

I think something is coming for DST

Hey today I checked DST steamDB (I do it everyday because I really want some new content for the game) and saw that 2 more DLCs have been listed to DST .

A quick note : 1 was added some time ago and ... well nothing happened , it was just added . So don't take it as a 100 % proof of an upcoming dlc until they announce it .

But I think (and hope) we will see some kind of a DLC for DST . Wich in my opinion is something the game really needs . At this point I'm just waiting for new content so I can start playing DST again .

If it is a DLC I hope for some late game content and new features ... I want more challenge to the survival part of the game , and maybe some long term goal . It might even be SW or hamlet port to DST thou ... I don't think that's the case .

Anyway tell me what is your opinion about all this ?!

Public servers, players give up and reset after deerclops

So many times I see this, a pretty elaborate base, players don’t know how to handle deerclops and it gets destroyed so they restart with a new world.   It takes only 2-3 days with a team to rebuild a base but 30 days to recreate it from scratch, doesn’t make sense to me.   Also what makes the game fun is some hardship...

30 FPS Cap?

Recently my DST client has been constantly dipping down and capping at 30 FPS, and I have no idea what could be causing it.

This issue started occurring during Hallowed Nights, before then it was never an issue.

And yes, I don't have v-sync enabled on my game or my drivers.

Oddly enough, whenever I alt-tab out of my game my frame skyrockets and caps at 60 FPS, only minutes later for my FPS to capped at 30 again...

Does anyone have an idea what the issue could be? This problem seems to affect many of my friends as well.

Should there be a tutorial for new players?

I play on public servers a lot. However, I haven't had much of a issue with new players, until today. Storytime!

It was late spring. Summer was approaching, and we where almost ready to deal with it. We had everything we needed to survive. Logs, food, an endothermic, flingomatics, and a whole lot of ice. Then two people joined the server, a Wilson and a Webber. They came to base and everything wen't on as normal. Until night fell. The Webber grabbed almost a whole stack of logs, and threw them all in the endothermic. Then I grabbed a whole stack of logs, and threw them in the firepit for warmth. I lectured him about endothermic's for a bit, and they daybreak came, and the Wilson immediately started prototyping every single item he could. Even a bloody top hat. Then, when I was in the middle of telling him that it was a horrible idea, the Webber hit a beehive. Then we spent a while running in circles and hitting bee's. By the end of that...affair I was starving, and walked over to the icebox's to cook up some meatballs. Now, the day before the icebox's where packed with all kind's of food, and certainly enough to last at least half of summer. Now they where empty, all apart from one honey, 2 small jerky, and a couple of monster lasagna that the Webber had cooked up. Then I threw some profanity around, referenced the end of the Lorax, and left.

THAT SHOULDN'T BE HAPPENING.

Hello,

I bought the game today but i did't receive the second game key that is supposed to come with don't starve together.
i checked everything, the inventory restarted steam and played the game. but it doesn't show up in my inventory. if you need more informatio just ask me. but i really want the second key for my girlfriend.

Wasn't sure if I should send this to bug tracker or somewhere else, I finally was trying to enter my chester plush code in the redeem section but it needs 20 keys to get the item. Is this a misprint on the sticker that comes with the tag or something else?

 

I only see 12 keys/letters on the sticker.

Not too long ago, my girlfriend got the reskin for the fancy looking grass hat. Seeing the skin be applied on the Miner hat and the Rain hat for the first time was so satisfying. Being able to make a few items with one elegant has a lot more bang for your buck! It made me think of Log Suit reskins from The Forge and how it can be used to make Scalemail as well, or how the spear reskins can be used on the magic staffs...then I remember it can't be used on Wigfrid's battle spear...

Anyway, what new skins do you hope to see next? I'm really hoping for an Icebox or Improved Farm reskin; stuff that I will see around the base a lot. My friend wants armour reskins, like the Dark Sword and Night armour, which I thought was really interesting. So I'm wondering: what are the aesthetic priorities of my fellow forum lurkers?

Also, I hope there will be a way for the people who couldn't get The Forge reskins to obtain a Football Helmet or Log Suit reskin somehow, whether it be the event skins or just new ones. It's definitely added a lot more flavour into my DST experience.

Now this thread is not meant to call anyone out, nor is it about venting your frustrations over mistakes noobs make. These are tips aimed more at showing ways of being considerate than improving your skill at the game. 

I don't have a lot of time for playing computer games, so when I play DST I tend to hop on a random server and help out all I can before I have to leave (sometimes hosting my own server if I can't find one, which tends to be lonely), and I thought it would be nice to share ways I've found of not being a liability and not getting on peoples bad sides. I'd like to see other peoples tips too, in case there's some I've missed or just haven't thought of. So here's mine :3

  • Don't ask where the Base is Right After Joining: This one's simple, but it goes a long way in not annoying people. Now I know that when you first enter a server you want to know where you can come to at night to cook and spam the /dance emote, but be patient. If you aren't given directions or offered an escort, explore, gather some things, get your bearings. People will respect you more if you survive a few days before asking where the base is located. Who knows, you may even find it on your own!
  • Don't Pick Everything: When first entering one of the many randomly generated islands, our brains tend to immediately slip into PICK ALL THE THINGS mode, especially those of us who've spent a fair amount of time in the single player game. However, when playing in multipayer, one has to stop and think, "Hey, if I systematically pick every bit of flint, grass, twigs, and food from around the portal in a ten mile radius, then there won't be anything left for new players!" Please, be considerate. How can you expect new players to survive a few days if they can't even scrounge up enough for a torch?
  • Drop some Flint by the Portal: It's a small thing that'll help out people just entering the server. You don't even have to go out of the way to do it; if you happen to be pasing by the portal and have some flint to spare, just drop some by it, or make a pickaxe to leave behind so they can collect their own. Heck, I've heard of people making a chest by the portal containing equipment like torches, rabbit earmuffs, and pickaxes to help new players out.
  • Don't Enter in Winter or Summer: Pay attention to the day and season of the server you're joining. If you want to join in a difficult season for some extra challenge, go ahead. Just don't expect everyone to drop what they're doing to help you out.
  • If you don't want Strangers, set a Password: You'd think this one would be a no brainer, but I've heard a lot of stories of people joining servers just to be kicked the moment they enter. I assume it only happens when someone doesn't know that they can make a password for they're server, but still, it's rude.
  • Drop your Stuff Before you Leave: Before you leave a server, it's nice to drop your items on the ground so others can use them. If you're playing with familiar people on a server you know you'll be on again, you can keep your equipment. In any case it's still rude to leave with gears, a big stack of silk, or any other important items still in your inventory, selfishly taking them out of reach of the unfortunate players left on the server.
  • Keep Busy: Look around the base. Does it still need some drying racks? A crockpot? Some farms? Do the traps need to be emptyed? Are you low on wood? Look around for things that need to be done, and if you're having trouble finding something, it never hurts to ask. No one likes a leach.

Create a new standard world but no bans/kicks or rollbacks.   Trolls are welcome and the goal is just to survive as players loot and pillage.   For experienced players the game is too easy, this could make it interesting again.    Got the idea when I was playing in a night/winter only world and just finding 15 grass to make a miners hat took 6 days.

Haven't posted in a while, thought I'd post a video here a base I'm currently making with my girlfriend. Mod being used is only Geometric Placement, for those smooth, silk neat placements. As stated in the title, this base is no where near finished and will definitely expand in the future :D
