GENERAL

Do I need to own Don't Starve to play Don't Starve Together?
Don't Starve Together: Console Edition is a stand-alone multiplayer expansion to Don't Starve: Console Edition on the Xbox One. DST is a separate game from Don’t Starve, and you are not required to own one to play the other. 

How many players can join/play on a server? 
We are supporting six-player, client hosted servers.

How do I use text chat in-game?
Press the right thumbstick on your Xbox One controller to bring up the “Social Menu" tab and select the “Talk” or “Whisper” option. Or, while in the character select screen, press Square to use the chat screen.

How do I disable voice-chat for DST?
You will be able to disable voice chat through the Xbox One dashboard.

What is "Lag Compensation"?
In Don't Starve Together: Console Edition, we use movement prediction by default, which may cause a delay in the animation while preforming actions and show you in a slightly different location than where players are on the server.
This can be turned off in the settings by toggling "Lag Compensation" to None, which will trade the prediction with input lag (players will have to wait for the server to confirm their action before it will start).

How do I redeem gift item codes?
Item codes can be redeemed on either PC, PS4, or Xbox One but can only be used once. On the Xbox One, from the game's main menu select "Options", go to the "Extras" tab, and select "Redeem A Code".
 

SPLIT-SCREEN

Do both players on split-screen (online) require a Xbox Live membership?
If playing online, yes - both players will need to have an active Xbox Live Gold membership. However, players are able to play split-screen locally without either player requiring membership. 

How do we play in split screen?
In order to play split screen online, both players will need to be signed into an active Xbox Live Gold account on the Xbox One's dashboard. From there, start the game and when you get to Don't Starve Together's menu screen, press the "Menu" button on the second Xbox One controller to enable the second player for split-screen online.

Please note that signing in as a non Xbox Live Gold/membership account on the console will limit the game to be played offline for split-screen.

How does text chat work in split screen?
When one of the split-screen players brings up the Xbox One's virtual keyboard, neither player will be able to control their character while the chatting player is entering their chat message. 

Does voice chat work with split screen online?
Yes, Don’t Starve Together supports voice chat even when playing split-screen online.

OTHER

Can I stream or make videos of Don't Starve Together? 
You sure can! We're pretty relaxed when it comes to YouTube and Streaming (Twitch, etc.) permissions. That being said, it would be super cool if things linked to the game page on the Xbox One Marketplace but it's not mandatory.

The Mod Rarity Thread

While Reign Of Giants got ported to DST during the Early Access, some features were left outside forever such as the Old Bell, or even Vanilla features like Caves made it some time after.

Shipwrecked hasn't been added, yet is highly requested in announcements along with "It's a great idea"

The problem is, compared to other survival games, Don't Starve/Together require time and resource management way more.

Shipwrecked does not help as it involves moving from area to area using craftable boats which need resources to be made with, otherwise you are restricted to the island you are in only until you find the resources.

So if players were given the resources or a boat on spawn, one of Walani's perk goes down, and the features becomes unfair to Solo, where you need to get the resources spending time, exploring the area and more.

The main problem is that if players spawn in the same place, there will be less resources for new players. Also, random spawns would decrease the fun of being kiss-close with others as a player who stays with others. Let's not forget that mobs have more HP so being at distance at the beginning will surely increase the difficulty.

Although, Warly works perfectly outside of Shipwrecked if he is re-balanced a bit more, while the remaining Trio don't, which I find quite interesting.

TL:DR: Join an empty server with 1000 days and vote to regenerate the world as soon as you are in.

We’ve been a bit quiet about Don’t Starve in the last few months, but we’ve been hard at work. Today I’d like to announce a few new things that we’ve been working on:

Don’t Starve: Hamlet

The first thing to announce is that we’ve been working on another Don’t Starve singleplayer DLC! Wilson has found the portal to the origins of the Pigmen, and he’s off to explore their civilization. There may be some bushwhacking and tomb raiding involved, too.

Hamlet will be available in Q1/Q2 2018. More information will be shown as we get closer to launch.

Don’t Starve: Shipwrecked Content Update
We have a little surprise for you: Shipwrecked is getting more content! We have added the following to the game as a free update.

Don’t Starve Together: The Forge

In addition to the singleplayer DLC, we are also announcing that we are working on a series of events for Don’t Starve Together. DST events are limited-time play modes that create a new way to play with the cast of Don’t Starve. They serve as a way to mix up the experience, allowing us to try crazy new things without breaking the core game. Events are free for everyone who owns DST to play and will be coming in November.

With the Ancient Gateway activated our survivors now find themselves trapped in a hostile world of fire and battle. They’ll need to team up to defeat the Battlemaster’s army and his champion, the Grand Forge Boarrior, if they have any hopes of returning home. Here’s what’s in store in Don’t Starve’s first event, The Forge:

• 6-player co-op challenge, where the goal is to try and defeat the Grand Forge Boarrior in an arena. The only way to survive will be to work together.
• New creatures and bosses with their own attack patterns.
• New character traits for all characters, each with their own bonuses during combat.
• New weapons, armor, items, and combat abilities to help you survive the onslaught.

Players who participate in the event will also be eligible to earn event specific skins. For the skin system, we are doing several changes:

• Far more skins will drop for players than ever before (by a factor of 4x or more!)
• There’s a new trader in town! If you get duplicates, you will be able to break them down to scrap and craft them into event items.
• The event features event-time skin drops, including the Warrior Skin Set, putting each character in grizzled gladiator-wear.
• In addition to the chance of receiving them as drops, players will have the option to purchase a single character’s Warrior Skin Set for $2.99, or the entire Warrior Skin Set collection for $12.99.
• The nature of the skins themselves will not change, they are still purely cosmetic and optional. However, purchase of the Warrior Set will help us fund further content and events like this one.

We hope that with this mechanism, we can both continue creating great free content while also supporting the development team. In addition, this method of funding allows us to provide content to all our players, instead of splitting the player community if we implemented it with a DLC paywall.

This is just the first of many experiments we intend to run, and we would love your feedback! We have many ideas for events, and we would love to know what you would liketo see.

Besides events, we will also continue working on Quality of Life improvements and bug fixes. 

And finally, a new challenger has arrived in Don’t Starve Together, and she is coming to all platforms and is available on Steam now!

Armed with her indomitable spirit and trusty mending tape, Winona seems to have been plucked straight off the factory line and dropped into the world of Don’t Starve for something or someone’s unfathomable amusement. There may be more to her arrival than it appears, however, as more than a few eyes will be watching the next move of the newest survivor…

Why not sell DLC for Don’t Starve Together instead of skins?
DST is a multiplayer game, and we decided that we want everyone to be able to play, instead of splitting the community. We hope that in this way, we can continue to develop updates for the game while allowing everyone to enjoy it.

When is The Forge being released?
We are aiming to release it this November.

Are the events coming to console?
The events are going to launch first on PC, but we are looking into bringing them to other platforms at a later date.

The DST Skins Checklist has been designed to help you more easily keep track of your DST skins collection.  This can be done by manually checking off items or by directly syncing the checklist with your inventory on Steam.  

The layout is fairly rustic, but it lets you view, filter, and search the skins you own, have duplicates of, or are missing in the game.  All save data is stored locally on your computer (in your browser's Local Storage).

The checklist is a single HTML file (images are all embedded) and can be used online or from your desktop:

I know it might be a bit too early to ask, but i'm really curious about the future of don't starve together as its been a while since the last significant content update.

During the early days of Don’t Starve Together’s development, we mentioned that those who had purchased Don’t Starve: Reign of Giants expansion would receive a special in-game gift for DST. Well, it’s finally here! As a thanks for your support, you can now enter your Reign of Giants CD key in Don’t Starve Together to redeem your Mini Monument special in-game item.

To redeem your Don’t Starve Together Mini Monument in-game item:

1. Right-click Don’t Starve on your Steam Game Library > View CD Key > Copy your Reign of Giants key.

5 uses of Trusty tape requires 5 silk and 15 grass. 

you can stack only 5 charges of sewing kit

you can stack 40 charges of trusty tape and refill it when you need it, so trusty tape requires 8 times less space than sewing kit

sum up: Trusty tape costs less and needs 8(!) times less space

I'm sorry, but this is ridiculous! Did we learn nothing from Shipwrecked!?! 

Firstly, making new shard world is not what we want. Shipwrecked was pretty, but it was just hollow compared to ROG. Why do you keep building things from scratch?!? JUST ADD TO ROG AS A NEW BIOME, THAT'S WHAT EVERYONE WANTS.

Secondly, are you expecting us to buy DLC for single-player game that  you refuse to update with the stuff from Together. Nobody plays Singleplayer anymore because it's outdated...and now you are adding DLC for it. 

Are the people who make Together and Singleplayer different departments that don't speak to each other?!? Get your damn crap together guys (literally, STICK EVERYTHING TOGETHER INTO ONE GAME AND STOP SEGREGATING CONTENT)

with the new 6 coop mission event starting in november ive been wondering if there would be still the halloween event this year?

i thought events like halloween, winter, lunar where just time-limited but would repeat again, like its in overwatch.. so am i wrong here?

Winona is a TIME TRAVELER

now at first, that sounds like an implausible statement, but i can prove it very easily

take a look at the image below

we'vea;ll seen this poster before, it's very popular, and it is undoubtedly it was the basis for winona

and now let's see the official timeline for don't strave's lore

wilson starts out on the year of 1921, then finds maxwell's door, goes through adventure mode, then replaces waxmell on his throne

it is entire possible that this has happned in the span of a few months, here's why

the smallest amount of time it takes to reach maxmell's door is 17 seconds 

the fastest recorded speedrun of adventure mode is 2 hours, 6 minutes, and 17 seconds

in total, it wouldve taken at least 2 hours, 6 minutes, and 34 seconds to complete

converted into seconds, that's 21994 seconds

a day in do not starve is 8 minutes or 480 seconds

21994 divided by 480 is 45.821

so therefore, it took wilson at least 1 month, 2 weeks, 19 hours, and 42 minutes

so now we need to figure out how long it took before the dont no starve together plotline started

from the don't starve togeter another reign official cinematic that you can view on klei entertainments's official channel or via the game's theatre option, we see that charlie releases wilson from the nightmare throne

according to official comics from klei, what happens after is that waxwell finds wilson at his camp site where they initially greet each other with aggression but immediately calm down and talk

maxwall finds wilson's blueprints for a Jury-Rigged Portal, and together they construct the machine

right as it started working, teleporting some other characters into their world, cherlie pranks them by making their portal and the newcomers look edgy

the construction and activation of the portal marks the start of the Dont starveing together plotline, and so we need to figure out the amount of time between wilson's seating on the throne and the activation of the portal

and i know just how to do that:

willson's beard has three stages of growth: short, medium, and long

his short beard takes 4 days to grow, his medium beard takes 8 days, and the long takes 16

when charlie releeased wilson from the nightmare throne, they had no beard, much like wilson at the time

since wilson also had no beard, then that would mean that wilson spent less than 4 days on the nuyclear throne before being released

when maxsmell and wilson finished their portal, wilson had a medium beard, which takes 8 days to grow

so this means the amount of time between wilson's seating and the portal's activation is around 8-15 days

so we can finally conclude that don't starvation together took place at the year of 1921 at least or 1922 at most

so what does this have to do with winona?

well the poster earlier has been made around the year of 1943, and was only popular during the 1980s, accordian to wikipedia

this means winona is only supposed to exist 59 years later, a time traveller indeed

but time travel couldn't have existed in the 1980s, right?

it's very implausible, they didn't even have the internet back then

maybe by 2002, time travel could've been invented, but no random person can simply do that

no common person can do such a technological feat

you'd need to be very smart and very special to invent time travel

and we know only one person who can do thatt
