Casual Speedrunning

$

I actually promised myself to not post any content I share on my Youtube channel on the forums anymore, but I decided to make an exception for this one. Not only because I invested more time into this video than I otherwise do, but also because I have recently seen a few posts that falsely identify certain game plans that involve well thought strategies as speedruns, while also looking down upon speedrunning in general. I think this is a huge disrespect both to gamers that like speedrunning and to good gamers who are not speedrunners at all.

So I want to share some concrete examples as to what speedrunning actually looks like from the perspective of someone who enjoys casual speedruns. Please keep in mind that speedrunning is a playstyle that prioritizes achieving a certain objective in the fastest means possible, and while it might not be the playstyle you yourself would consider to be fun, that there are enough people out there who consider achieving a certain objective as fast as possible as a legitimate hobby.

However, speedrunning doesn't necessarily have to be a "sweaty" hobby, especially in DST. This game allows for a casual speedrunning playstyle if you are not concerned with getting a world record time. As long as you are willing to test your own limits, you can very much speedrun a specific objective in DST without having to invest too much time in the real life, and this is what I mean with a "casual speedrun".

If you are good at kiting bosses and/or if you have good map reading skills, you are pretty much set for attempting a speedrun. The only thing you will have to worry about is how much you will have to trim off from your usual gameplan to achieve the fastest time possible for completing a specific objective within your own limitations. And this is why I created this video: to show some speedrunning strategies that are not necessarily world record standards, but are still easy to replicate and to improve upon if you want to give speedrunning a chance.

I hope that you enjoy the video!

[Poll] Should Wes skilltree buff him to (try to) balance with other character?

Just curious.

skilltree has natural optionality and task that encourages players to play as some character to get insight point, which I think that makes it great for making Wes worth to play and wouldn't damage his status as a joke character too much... If the developer decides to do so.

I know some people have specific ideas for Wes skilltree, like half buff and half nerf or something, but in the end it can only be yes or no.

Wilson's skill tree concept (V4).

back at it again folks, and I don't bloody care if things are """"""op"""""", klei already threw away character balance ages ago and I'm sick as hell seeing torch toss got replaced by brighter lighter and portable campfire of all things.

Is it possible to get a partial refund

I want to ask if it is possible to return half of the amount spent on the game. Steam is currently having a spring sale where the game has a 66% discount.
And I bought the game at full price and I would like to know if I can expect the developers to be able to return half of the amount to me

Modified World Gen settings + world content as DLCs? Also my feels of the development of the game so far

I am kinda interested if Klei doesn't get enough funding through the hype of the game or not and also am curious on how would people feel if there would be survival scenarios like in ONI they released DLC's for big world modifications and survival scenarions as paid DLC's?

What I think is that it would bring in more hype towards the uncompromising part of the game, maybe introducing harder challenges or different world scenarios with the same general content that the standard Constant has like progression, but survival like winter seasons could become longer and colder and need better fuel sources to survive, or desert worlds where plant material resources are rare and ranching would be involved in producing more.

We could have additional content DLCs for caves like magma or sunken caves where we would need to boat through ravines or even vast seas to get to sunken loot and what not.

Maybe an ocean themed world where land is basically nonexistent so we have to get dirt, fertilizers and plant material in order to erect dock bases, enabling dock turfing or even conducting raids on resourceful areas.

I don't know how the devs feel about the game anymore, assuming what I heard it's correct that there's been big swaps in teams and all of who develops DST now I do wanna see it thrive and do well and keep interest of players so they would do more bolder content choices, and I do wanna see more quality in the game as I've enjoyed seeing developers actually responding to players and their feedback which I find it positive way to interact.

I've been here for so many years and I would feel bad to see things slow down and the franchise not to evolve anymore. I'd be interested to see spin up games of the survivor cast to exist more than just general survival/sandbox. I'd love to see Gorge with more mechanics and even if it could exist outside of DST as it's own game.

And I'm suggesting and giving out my feels here cause of that last Klei post of 'future of DST' cuz that just sounds hella sus and worrying and I don't like it :(

Everyone misses the point of Wilson when suggesting Skilltree stuff

He is meant to be simple and easy to understand. No complex mechanics. No major gameplay changes.

So much of what i see people suggest is over the top, and huge. If these were added, it would ruin the point and niche of Wilson as a character. He shouldnt have exclusive items.

I am really fond of Wilson's simpleness. The other characters nowdays are often too overwhelming or feature bloated. Wilson lets me focus on the world's tools rather than my character's tools, and the focus on the character tools nowdays is what i believe to be a big flaw with modern dst's characters.

I do believe Wilson's skilltree needs changed, its still bad, but mostly just:

▪Better transmutation rates. (3 rot for 1 manure, 1 manure for 2 rot ect)

▪More practical transmutations. (Most are kinda useless and rarely used, add more like the meat one)

▪Let light skills work on all light sources, condense them a little and add new abilities for Wilson to apply his light buffs to campfires and dwarf stars.

▪Condense beard skills.

▪More affinity transmutations. E.g transmute butterflies to moon moths, transmute petals to dark petals.

Wilson should never have any exclusive items, or over the top buffs. He should just improve existing item mechanics using his science knowledge, and have things like transmutations.

Turning the default character into another insane new character would just shrink the cast diversity and options. His current skilltree adds some extra gameplay to him to make him at least have a few new strategies and benifits to the team rather than being a burden.

Fast Food Style Server

Fast Food servers are a popular type of public server in the Chinese Don't Starve Together community. The core feature of these servers is the goal of defeating the Celestial Champion within 15 to 30 days (Mostly it is like this, but it is not mandatory), with a very clear division of labor throughout the process. Players usually choose servers set to Day 1 of Autumn, wait for the server to fill up, discuss character selection and roles, and try to avoid "rushing in" (i.e., entering the world before the server is full). Once everyone is ready, they start simultaneously and progress through the game.

I've been playing Fast Food servers for over a year now, and based on my observations, I'd like to share some insights into how they work. The core idea behind the name "Fast Food" is to experience as much of the game's content as possible in the shortest amount of time, with each session typically lasting around 2 to 4 hours, which is a reasonable duration. Additionally, Fast Food places a high demand on teamwork and role division, aligning perfectly with the "multiplayer" aspect of Don't Starve Together. However, this is just one way to play the game. Playstyles vary from person to person, and not everyone needs to play as "intensely" as in Fast Food servers—it's best to find what suits you. I also haven't used the Fast Food standard to argue for character balance adjustments, so please don't label me as such. Thank you.

The team is typically divided into three groups: the Base-Building Group, the Pearl Group, and the Ruins Group.

The Base-Building Group

The Base Builders group usually consists of Wickerbottom, Maxwell, and Wormwood. They are responsible for providing the base’s technological facilities, cooking facilities, sufficient basic resources, and food.

1.    Wickerbottom: The core of the Base Builders group. Her main tasks include transplanting grass and twigs, selecting the base location, planning the base layout, and crafting important books. I usually main Wickerbottom and have discussed specific gameplay details in the hidden content of this post.
2.    Maxwell: In the early game, he is responsible for gathering resources to provide materials for base building (wood, stone, gold). After obtaining books, he assists Wickerbottom with all reading tasks. On one hand, he can use the Codex Umbra to gather basic resources more efficiently; on the other hand, he can collect nightmare fuel.
3.    Wormwood: At the start of the game, he provides essential living logs for the Ruins Group and Wickerbottom. Later, he focuses on farming to supply the team with hunger and health recovery. Depending on the situation, he may also take on duties such as collecting monkey tails or manure.

Some might think that "Fast Food" servers are all about combat, but whether a server "fails" (i.e., people leave halfway through) largely depends on the skill of the Base Builders group. If the Ruins Group returns from clearing the ruins only to find that the base doesn’t even have a crock pot, it’s no wonder they might leave.

The Pearl Group

The Pearl Group is typically composed of Wortox, who has fast teleportation abilities, and Woodie, who can quickly explore ocean terrain. Occasionally, Wickerbottom (with her fish book) will also assist with Pearl tasks. Wortox is already highly skilled at speed-running Pearl tasks even without skill trees, and having skill trees only enhances his capabilities. In addition to basic tasks like repairing the house, planting flowers, transplanting berries, salvaging trash, and drying items, there are several tasks that require special attention:

1.    Delivering the Umbrella: Autumn usually brings a brief rainstorm, which can easily be missed. Remedies include using the Telelocator Staff to summon rain or exchanging a goose feather buoy with the Crab Hermit, deconstructing it, and having Wickerbottom perform the Practical Rain Ritual.
2.    Building the Chair: More experienced Wortox players will bring green mushrooms to the Ruins to obtain the chair blueprint, but they can also coordinate with the Ruins Group teammates to bring one.
3.    Five Heavy Fish: It’s best to prepare an extra bottle to exchange for heavy fish bait, or simply hope the Crab Hermit gifts one.
4.    Autumn Fish: Without Wickerbottom’s assistance, this task largely depends on luck.

Three out of these four tasks need to be completed to ensure obtaining the Pearl in autumn, and a fair amount of luck is involved. The Pearl task is the least stable part of the Fast Food process, often requiring extensive practice or strong team support to ensure it’s completed on time. Similarly, the "combat" aspects of the Pearl tasks are relatively minimal, demonstrating that Fast Food servers aren’t solely about "combat excitement." Speed-running the Pearl tasks demands a high level of fundamental gameplay skills and time management.

In addition to assisting Wortox with exploration, Woodie is typically responsible for transplanting resources from the Lunar Island. When heading to Lunar Island, remember to mine the three Inviting Formations. It's not necessary to assemble them, but you must use a pickaxe to mine them open. To facilitate transporting the Celestial Altar later in the game, he also defeats the Frostjaw to obtain the boat boots. Depending on the needs of the Base-Building group, he may also complete the task of transplanting resources from the Monkey Island.

The Ruins Group

The Ruins Group primarily consists of two parts: clearing the ruins and crafting equipment (usually handled by Wolfgang, Wigfrid, and Willow) and the Archives branch (typically handled by Wilson). Personally, I believe the tasks of the Ruins Group are the easiest among the three teams.

1.    Clearing the Ruins: Ensure that enough Star Caller's Staves, Thulecite Crowns, gems of all three colors, and frayed wires are brought back to the base. The process of clearing the ruins is very formulaic, and with good coordination, the Ancient Guardian might not survive past the third day. Additionally, the Ruins Group need to provide Maxwell in the Base Builders group with dreadstone equipment and, depending on the situation, supply the Pearl Group with a chair blueprint.
2.    The Archives: Mainly completed by Wilson, who has the skill to craft rainbow gem. The six-colored gems can be collected in the ruins. If there is no Wilson in the server, the Moon Caller's Staff can be upgraded on day 11 instead.

Some Additional Details

1.    Transporting the Celestial Altar is usually handled by Wolfgang. After the recent skill tree update, Wortox and Walter can also take on this task.
2.    The Celestial Storm tasks are typically completed collaboratively by multiple players. Meanwhile, the infused moonglass are collected using Wickerbottom’s The End is Nigh book.
3.    Bosses like Dragonfly, Bee Queen, Toadstool, and the Eye of Terror are not mandatory for the celestial process. Whether they are defeated depends on the situation.
4.    The primary reason for defeating the Celestial Champion instead of the Ancient Fuelweaver is that the shadow line is too short.
5.    Some Fast Food servers may find bosses like the Celestial Champion too easy in multiplayer mode and thus install boss-enhancing mods for added challenge.

The Characters I Haven’t Mentioned

1.    WX-78 and Wanda: Both characters can participate in the Ruins Group, but their speed in clearing the ruins falls short compared to the three characters I previously mentioned. Additionally, WX-78 offers limited team contributions, and in a fast-paced environment, Wanda takes too long to become fully equipped and it’s almost impossible to craft the Backtrek Watch.
2.    Webber and Wurt: Some Fast Food servers even ban these two characters. The main reason is that an excessive number of minions can severely lag the server.
3.    Winona/Warly/Wendy: If all positions in the three groups are filled, these characters can be considered to assist the Base Builders group with miscellaneous tasks. However, in a fast-paced environment, their strengths often can’t be fully utilized (for example, Wendy might not even finish taming a Beefalo before the Celestial Champion is defeated). Choosing these characters typically implies you’re just there to slack off. I’ve previously attempted to develop Wendy’s playstyle in fast-paced settings, primarily focusing on two aspects: using Abigail to exploit a bug for quickly killing the Toadstool, and farming enough bananas in the ruins to trade for blueprints on Monkey Island to craft papyrus for Wickerbottom.
4.    Walter: Before his skill tree, no one would choose him in a fast food server. I believe his skill tree will lead to diverse and interesting playstyles in such environments, and this area is still under development.
5.    Wes: Feel free if you want to choose him.

Sharing of the Actual Gameplay Process of the Base-Building Group

Spoiler

This is my experience playing as Wickerbottom in a Fast Food server called "Jinshi." The overall atmosphere of the "Jinshi" Fast Food server is relaxed and newbie-friendly, and I often play there. I played as Wickerbottom in this round. At the start of the game, the Base-Building Group didnt have a Maxwell, and the Wormwood player was a beginner without unlocked skill points. As a result, I took on most of the base-building responsibilities.

Wickerbottom has a technological advantage. The first tool I made was a shovel, and I also crafted a backpack along the way. This allowed me to explore the map while transplanting resources on the first day, saving a lot of time.

20250314152425_1.jpg.2cf635802e6e223850413079e353fffa.jpg

Since there was no Maxwell and Wormwood was a beginner, I spent more time gathering resources. These included:
1.        40 grass tufts and 40 saplings (for the transplanting area).
2.        80 pieces of charcoal (for the cooking area).
3.        40 reeds (for crafting Horticulture Abridged, Applied Silviculture, The Everything Encyclopedia, bookshelf, and birdcage).
4.
Carrots, boards, and gold nuggets (obtained by trading rabbit fur with the Pig King) for the early game.

20250314155215_1.jpg.57107c39861bf02a4147980c90986a88.jpg

At the same time, Id like to briefly share my method for choosing a base location in Fast Food servers. There are four mandatory conditions that must be met: The base must not be in a meteor area. The base must be near the ocean. The base must be near a pond (but not too close). The base must be near a cave entrance (but not too close). After meeting these four conditions, the final decision on the base location is made based on the positions of key landmarks and wormholes.

A small tip for fertilizing the transplanting area: Bring a Beefalo. Since saplings dont need fertilization, you can quickly use Applied Silviculture to gather a large number of twigs. Then, cook four batches of steamed twigs, feed the Beefalo until its full, and then keep feeding it twigs. At this point, the Beefalo will start producing a lot of rots, which can be used to fertilize grass, stone fruits, and other plants. Honestly, the Beefalos stomach is incredibly strong.

20250314161443_1.jpg.ee594811ef8b331b3f4b7999f7a77c55.jpg

For me, base layout is the most interesting part of playing as Wickerbottom. The layout usually consists of three parts: the tech area, the cooking area, and the transplanting area.

20250314170322_1.jpg.983688744620898bed510f8f980b7638.jpg

The cooking area is the heart of the base. After all, the game is called Dont Starve Together. The core elements of the cooking area include crock pots, iceboxes, a birdcage, and a fire pit. Personally, I also like to build a tent in the cooking area. Additionally, I usually advise my Wormwood teammate to plant crops near the cooking area, as it makes it easier for teammates to utilize the birdcage.

20250314183343_1.jpg.8eea1270a07e97d2883dabd0e6e56cb5.jpg

The most important parts of the tech area are the Alchemy Engine, the Think Tank, and the Shadow Manipulator. The Alchemy Engine should be built as quickly as possible to assist teammates. The Shadow Manipulator can be crafted by skipping the rabbit-catching step using The Everything Encyclopedia. At the same time, the tech area usually also serves as a storage area.

20250314183550_1.jpg.b2ed530b5cffae15462117c8ccaf09cc.jpg

Since a naturally generated cobblestone road runs through the base, I used this road as a boundary to divide the tech area and the transplanting area. The transplanting area includes basic crops, Lunar Island crops, and Monkey Island crops. The turf was brought back by Woodie from the Lunar Island. My teammate even managed to get a waterlogged tree. Additionally, the bookshelf is usually built near the transplanting area for easy access when using books to gather resources.

20250314183605_1.jpg.62212d7660ae7286208fb8aa38d1aaaa.jpg

Throughout the base-building process, I strive to achieve aesthetic appeal. However, resources are limited in Fast Food servers, and I can’t sacrifice practicality for aesthetics. Moreover, I still have a lot to learn about "base beautification." I often study other players' base designs to find inspiration and then try them out in a Fast Food server. This process brings me a lot of satisfaction and is the main reason I enjoy playing as Wickerbottom so much.

Hey everyone! I noticed that there's a buttload of new memes and no place to put them. Post them here for people to see (and so we can stop clogging up the puzzle thread). Enjoy!

Edit: Also, the memes don't have to be Maxwell themed. All characters are welcome. This is merely a sequel of a previous meme thread.

Walter gaming Tips and Q&A

With the beta going live, many people will be playing Walter, some for the first time. As a long-time Walter main, I know how hard he can be to play, specially since he has basekit stuff that may be hard to notice, or underestimated, that makes his playstyle way smoother, and some of these took me quite a while to learn, like the "tree sanity".

So, I want to make a thread with "basekit" tips to help people that may not know them:

1. Woby's inventory has "implicit" uses: Atleast in early game, you can ignore carrying a backpack and use armor all the time if you want to feel safer. Her extra inventory also makes body insulation less of a pain to wear. And, her inventory persists after death; If you die and need to revive far away, on a meat effigy, or at portal, she can always carry insulation, food, heals, armor, etc.

2. >Trees give as much sanity as Tam and lessens sanity lost< : I think this is one of the most underrated things he has for his sanity. MAKE YOUR BASE WITH TREE AREAS . Its 0 upkeep and a constant sanity buff around the area. You can do this across your base, farms, boss spawns, sanity stations, in ruins, anywhere. Trust me, this **** is insanely useful, try it.

3. Easy early game heals: Butterflies can be killed with slingshot and their wings are a decent quick heal (well, now even better with the Field Medic perk lol). Trail Mix is Walter's favorite food and cheap to make, so its both a decent HP and hunger filler. Walter's tent is a portable healing station out of twigs and grass, and he loses half the hunger using it, so its completely worth "rushing" and carrying.

4. Farming critters: Walter is specially good at farming bunnies, butterflies, birds, moles, etc. You can also do this alternating ctrl + f while doing other tasks. For example, while chopping trees or collecting berries, you can shoot each bird that falls near you. Its tiredsome to do this all the time, but for early game its pretty good.

5. PK is your bestie: morsels>Pig King>gold>gold rounds. Also, pigmen are befriended with morsel for half a day, which you can easily farm from critters.

6. Shadow bunnies: You can get your sanity intentionally lowered to farm these. Its essentially a safe way to gather some monster meat, nightmare fuel, and beard hair.

7. Farming krampus: Its pretty easy to farm these out of killing critters, since you can summon them basically once a day. They are kiteable with the slingshot and give monster meat, which is good for Woby. If you are lucky you could even get a krampus sack on the first autumn or year. You can make a "cheap" farm for this, using an area with rabbit holes, flowers, a feather hat, and even a scarecrow for canaries.

8. "Ignoring fashion": Not gaining sanity from clothes means you can just focus on insulation, armor, or utility. For Winter, you can completely ignore the bother of rushing a Tam o Shanter; For Spring, If you don't have an Eyebrella, Rain Hat or Rain Coat are easy to get if you want to keep your hands free (and tentacles are easy to kill at a distance using the slingshot, for their skin); For Summer, Walter's hat has a base (60) overheating resistance. You can easily go through Summer just with this and a thermal. Also, Walter does NOT lose any sanity from staying in caves, so its also good for Summer.

9. Walter can build a cheap "sanity station": by just telling stories on a campfire surrounded by trees. Ways to upgrade it are of course Lamb's Idol (something worth rushing the first summer), Glommer, Evil Flowers+BQ Crown, etc etc.

10. Enlightened Crown is THE BEST ITEM for Walter: Gestalts on a ranged weapon are free extra damage, and believe it or not, Walter has a pretty solid sanity control. He gains the entirety of sanity auras at all times (not affected by dusk, night, caves, and insane auras), and also gains sanity from magic stuff like Thul Armor, magi, etc. Enlightened Crown is a gamechanger for Walter.

11. Armor while riding Woby: Woby has an "hp bar", when it gets depleted it buck off Walter. This resets after 5 seconds of not taking damage. However, Walter is the one taking the hits, so, by wearing armor you can extend this threshold. Marble armor is by far the best due to its 95% protection (the "Woby bar" goes to 180, for example, you can take 3 consecutive hits from Eye of Terror without getting buck off), but any armor does this to a different degree.

Anyways, I really like playing Walter, imo he has a pretty unique playstyle. I know hes challenging, most people either never played him due to his previous "worse than Wes" reputation, or tried to but got the "2 terrorbeaks" treatment, so I think some of these tips will be useful for many, specially new Walters.

Thanks for reading, please add more tips or tricks in the comments, im sure theres plenty more. I excluded Skill Tree tips because that adds A LOT more to his playstyle and I wanted to keep this as short as possible (also would have been too much yapping lol), but feel free to share any insights on that too!

And, if you have any questions about Walter's mechanics, skill tree, perks, etc feel free to ask those too!

Positive swap character features.

Now I know that major negative swap character features have been a hot topic as of late, as currently there are several characters whose whole identities get stolen.
What I want to to talk about are the small, minor swap characteristics where people can share minor characteristics in a positive way, or major ones get shared in a nerfed form that doesn't upset anyone.

Simply put, these are really cool in terms of teamplay. Its fun as walter when willow drops a spare lighter, because now you can cook/warm up anywhere on the cheap (Since lets be honest we love arson here in the walter camp.) Willow appreciates Wilson because his aggressive shedding in late spring lets her stockpile extra bernies without much work. Wickerbottom lets wurt exactly control her sanity, and the list goes on.

Not saying we strictly need more of these, but this is just an appreciation of the times where peoples intrinsic sharing bonuses create cycles where certain characters like each other. I could spitball more, suggest cool minor interactions where two characters highlight each other, but I just want to say that these are pretty cool and I appreciate them... WELL OK. Aside from one I can't help but mention.

The key area where I would love interaction though is someone giving wickerbottom something. Warly seems like a prime choice there, given his backstory was heavily centered around caring for the elderly him being able to push wickerbottom to be supreme would be a nice interaction.

about this "free copy to send to a freind" thingy?

I'm concerned about the future of the story...

I started playing again after a big halt on my part and was re-watching all of the animated shorts and checking out the new content. I highly appreciate from the team's part the new snippets of lore and attention to detail in the animations.

However, I'm not sure how I feel about the direction taken, and get worried about how really fleshed out the lore really is, or if its made up as they go, it concerns me that the Constant being...CONSTANT...means that there will never be a satisfying ending to Don't Starve's story, if there is an ending it has to be either paradoxical, leading back to the start to excuse infinite gameplay, but in a way that spectators still feel closure from the story so far over the years, or perhaps a literal end once servers shut down, which honestly, it doesn't look like that's how that will go.

I also feel the aesthetics and updates leaning more toward the Moon-side of things, the nightmare updates feel somewhat dull, like they made them just to satisfy the parallels for the ones who prefer Charlie's side (ie. Wurt's shadow mermen compared to their moon counterpart), I want to believe this is because AFTER the moon, which is the chapter we are on right now, we'll see an increase in focus on the Nightmare/Charlie's plan side of things, but if not, at least to my eyes, moon-based tech tends to be the meta compared to their nightmare counterparts, and is more conceptually and aesthetically fleshed out.

What do you guys think? Do you believe they already know how things will play out and are just slowly feeding us the lore, or perhaps it is a more dynamic thing the community slowly changes? Do you like the current relation between Nightmare/Moon content or what changes would be good if any?

Lag Switching/DoS attacks on Klei Hosted Public Servers

A problem I have started to notice is blatant lag switching/ DoS attacks on US East/West Klei Hosted Public Realms.

not 15 minutes ago, I was playing on Twiggy Tree - US West with a small group of players, Everything is going fine. Day before Deerclops was due to arrive, actually had a pretty good world going. A player joins the game named "Flubberknuckle"  (Steam ID Linked) and says "Do as I say, If you start a vote kick, I will crash the server" He then Proceeds to say "Hush. Say "N-word" or I crash the server." We queue up a vote kick to remove the player after telling him no and Instantly are met with a disconnected from Server screen. I have over 2000 Hours in DST. I play on Public servers I'd say 40% of my play time. Is there no protection at all regarding this? I get that public worlds inevitably end but in this way is mildly frustrating to say the least. How does the player prevent this? I firmly believe the best way to find other players to not starve with is publicly, but it seems almost every public world i play on inevitably falls to a griefer that has a way to manipulate the server into failing these days. I can tolerate a player griefing the base or whatever, so be it. but legitimately causing the server to stop working and force a reset? what is going on?

Crab King is the worst designer boss

$

Crab king design has been always problematic. Now is more rewarding and the gem system has more weight and actually works to personalize the fight but the boss has a mechanically problem: you are rewarded by ignoring his mechanics

- he summons claws that follows you but they are slow (and the hit box is kind of weird) so you are better of just rowing fast towards CK while ignoring them

- after being hit, CK creates an ice platform (because reasons this needed to be another land fight instead of a fun sailing fight...) but the claws despawn(?)

- once the platform is created he summons canons and minions and prepare for healing himself.  You either fight the minions and canons and let him heal or ignore ignore them all and stop his healing

- the ice platform starts melting so you need to go back to a boat. Some minions might follow you to the boat but the majority despawn. Yes another enemy despawning after being ignore. The canons stays but, unless they are on the way or you used red gems, you just tank the damage, heal the boat or use different grass boats.

3 different ways of atacking the player and you are punished by interacting with them because they either despawn, so you are wasting resources for nothing, or because CK is healing in front of you

Sometimes i do destroy some canons (kinda pointless because they respawn) and even fight the claws but just for having fun, is easier to simply ignore everything, specially when is fought with a pearl

Any good interactions between the enlightened crown and Wortox skill tree?

I've been trying to find a glass half full scenario on Wortox (console player here, so the controls, you know) with his skill tree

Was curious if there's any good interactions/synergy with the enlightened crown and his skill tree?

Specifically with his soul decoy,s, soul pierces, or shadow reaper? I'd assume they're nos all across the board, and even if they did work you'd run into serious sanity issues.

But figured maybe there was something I'm missing.

I'd also assume there's no way to manage an offensive oriented Wortox build and to somehow end up with the nice inclination?

Seems like late game once you have soul jars/inventory worked out that the naughty inclination doesn't do anything for you.

Thanks so much!

Introducing "Resurrected" Skins

ShipwreckedCrabpack_1920x1080.jpg

We have skins that are no longer available because they are proof of purchase rewards on official merch that are no longer for sale. We want to make these available to players but do not want to disrupt the inherent value that they have by their rarity and cost to acquire. We also have players that cannot get these skins through purchasing our merch due to issues with supply or the cost of shipping.

When introducing a new Resurrected Skin, we will give it away for a short period of time for free - through various methods. Either at that time or just a short while afterward, that skin will then also be added to the game as available for purchase based on a percentage of the original cost of the physical good that digital bonus item was linked to.

For our first Resurrected skin, we are giving a number of the Resurrected Crabpack skin codes available to ambassadors to give away in any way that they choose. It will become available for purchase in game at a later time.

Go check out our list of Ambassadors and try to score one for yourself!

One last thing. Well, technically two

roadmap2025_v2.PNG

We have been having a ton of meetings and discussions regarding the roadmap and upcoming content for DST. Ultimately, we have come to some conclusions that we are not currently able to share until after the "From Beyond" story arc is complete.

We have two more big updates left in the arc that we expect to conclude in September. We may have teasers or - other things - as we head toward sharing these plans, but we can't share details or timing for that right now.

As soon as we get to the point that we can share more information, a more proper content plan will be provided.

That's it for now. Thanks to everybody for all your support.

Have fun out there!

Ink

Skittersquids now have a proper use to add reward to the ocean. Their ink mechanic has been expanded and now can be collected as an item:

▪Skittersquids now can store up to 4 squirts of ink. They restore it by eating live fish.

▪Squids now periodically drop ink globs in the ocean, doing so makes them lose an ink squirt.

▪Killing them drops ink.

▪Tickle them with feathers to make them sneeze, making them sneeze and deplete all their ink. (Watch out for the blast zone)

▪They can now be lured by dropping fish on your boat.

These mechanics are designed so when you encounter skittersquids, there are more ways to interact with them besides killing them.

Ink can be collected and used as a new resource. Use it in waterbaloons to make ink balloons, which frighten enemies it hits and slows them down. Not sure what else, but if tar gets added, skitter ink could be a slightly weaker tar equivelant.
