Best way i could come up with to deal with the new Ink Blights (solo/any character)

If you don't want to listen to the video here's a small rundown of what i found ( plus some info that are a little wrong in the video )

- The brightshade staff is amazing against those three mini boss, it deal 20 planar damage to shadow creatures and depending on your armor of choice it can bounce up to 7 time between targets. Since the 3 ink blights stay really close to one another, you can deal some really decent damage at a safe distance from them and do the fight in less than a minute!

- I mention in the video that the Dreadstone Outcrop spawn while a nightmare rift is active, this info seems to be wrong but i'm not 100% sure. From my current perspective on this, the Dreadstone Outcrop will spawn every 5-6 days (need further testing) at a nearby nightmare fissure, whether the nightmare rift is open or not. (do take this whole point with a grain of salt, like i said i'm not 100% sure, if someone has the info plz let me know)

- I forgot to mention in the video that the Dreadstone outcrop is destroyable to get a few Dread stone. Either use the "rook" Ink blight to destroy it or use a Brightshade Smasher or a Thulecite Pick/axe before you end the fight.

- I also forgot to mention that if you intend to use the Enlightment Crown instead of the Brightshade Armor set, you should bring a few sanity foods, that technique drains alot of sanity quickly

Forgotten Seasons

Hi survivors of the Constant!

After quite a few hours into the game, I was thinking about how incredibly outdated the seasons are right now.
They have been with us since the first game, but since then they have received practically no changes and currently the seasons are almost more of a problem than an attractive way of gameplay.

When you have been in the same game for more than 300 days, you completely forget that they exist and in some cases you are waiting for the days to pass and end, to be able to continue normally.
I think it is time to give a little love to a game mechanic that is a constant part of the game.
How difficult it would be to do a complete rework of the seasons making them much more fun and including them both in the early and late game?

Without thinking much, it occurs to me that the seasons evolve by themselves, for example, keeping the first winter as it is, but making it evolve in successive winters, creating new forms of gameplay, like great blizzards that change the way you play, or even creating a new glacier island that only appears in winter over time, with new mechanics, enemies or bosses
Or maybe make them evolve within the season itself in the same way that Moonson did in Shipwrecked or that allergic season in Hamlet.
Creating unique ways to play that make us wish for those seasons to come instead of wishing they would go away.

I think some of us would still like to see that survival game spirit maintained, rather than end up being a mega-base building game, controlling boss respawn times to farm them for nothing. (I'm not against this, I respect it, but I think everything could be made much more attractive to everyone) Sorry for the wall of text but I had to say it.

A friend of mine [who is Jewish] pointed out that the star in Wigfrid's new helm skin [which is visible in her portrait] looks a bit too close to the Star of David and it made them uncomfortable. I suggest changing the shape of the star to be something more like these.

How to fix the umbralla? Make it a Critter

On the last developer stream , the developers mentiones that they want you to be able to use your hand slot while using the umbralla.

Well , it's the perfect time to rework critters too.

 

Instead of the anoying hunger mechanic that they currently have, allow players to feed their pets with a specific food item, unique to the pet , to unlock their potential for a limited time.

 

For example;

You give the vargling a Monster Lasagna, and now he becomes a friendly Hound with some HP. 

Give Some taffy to gloomgloom, and recive a small sanity aura

Make a new Bat Critter, and give him food that uses the material the umbralla use to need, and now you get a portable umbrella.

 

It wouldn't be too Op, considering it will use the same materials the umbralla needed, it could even encourage farming vegetables if you make the critter food more specific.

Are there any differences from beta?

I haven't seen the full list of changes, so I wanted to find out if there are any differences between the release and thebeta?

From my findings in the scratch book, I saw the food tab, it seems that there is still meaning in the cookbook, but now it is much less

  • Show HEAD_HAT and HEAD_HAT_NOHELM when equipping regular hats.

More sanbox/exploration focused updates

For a while now DST has been getting a lot of combat or combat gear related updates and ones that add new foes and specially bosses. Well I do believe thieese are nice new additions but I would really like to see updates focusing on more sandbox related content. Since at the end of the day Don't Starve is a sandbox game and no matter how many new fancy armor and weapons there are the combat is not the main focus and fairly limited to hitting the foe a couple of times dodging their attacks and repeting untill they die. Don't get me wrong this game doesn't need any complicated combat mechanic since its just a small part of a bigger game. But I genuenly  do believe the game has been lacking on at the sandbox departmant for the last couple updates. I know there are the item skins but It would be so nice to get some more items and structures to decorate our bases and arount the world. And this new stuff doesn't have to be decorative only either, Im sure you guys can come up with stuff that looks nice and fun to build and also functional. Even smaller stuff like more carpet and general decorative turf variants and some new casual non boss statues would be greate. It would be a dream come true if we got an update focusing on decoration with all sorts of new turfs, statues and even wall and fence variants.

We get plenty of those from both the Klaus bundles or killing bear yearly, and we got a whole mechanic of it shedding small tufts for the sake of farming his fur but we still have only two craftables?

For my proposition to add a bear roll for longer sleeps, like hibernating but also being protected from most elements. A tool to be used for AFK'ing freely while having some small amount of hunger taken every so often. Other being adding some sorts of carpet that would make players have small sanity % boost to what they wear at the time. Comfort and luxury in what you wear and what you stand on, being stronger the stronger your sanity gaining items are.

Been many years since we have this item and dragonfly still has more craftables with uses so I beg for something to be added.

Gateway gateway on the wall... Who's the villanous of all? [Theory]

Hello, fellow DST enthusiasts!

A few days ago, the game got updated with the Rifts Bellow, the 2nd update from the promised 3 for this Arc. To be honest, it looks phenomenal, Klei, you have outdone yourself once again!

So, with only 1 more update in this Arc, I wanted to theorize a little about what is to come. In particular, this post is about the interpretation of Charlie fixing up the gateway.

End of an era:

About a year ago I commented that I have the feeling that DST is getting to its finale.

Looking back, I still have the same feeling today, perhaps even greater than ever. Mind Over Magic, Dread Pilots, Beastieball, Rotwood, and Lab Rat - Klei is currently involved in the development of 5 new projects, of course in some more directly than others, aside from having other games to "look after" like Hot Lava or ONI.

Although DST is Klei's "Star" product, I think they might slow down with DST progression, with all those other projects.

And it would only make sense if the current DST Arc, about the war between the Shados and the Gestalts, one that ties up all loose ends after we have seen each character getting a refresh and countless QoL that polished the game to perfection, is also meant to be the final chapter of DST.

At least the final chapter in the major sense; I am sure the Years of X will still be added each year, there could be crossovers with other games, etc. Or if this doesn't turn out to be the case, I think we can all agree that the next update will be "the end of an era".

I am personally hyped by all the new stuff Klei will be offering, and excited to see the end of this Arc!

A little drama:
When "A little drama" was released, I had two theories about the meaning of the play. I was debating what the “mirror" character was meant to be. I debated whether it is one of the rulers of the ancients, or if it represents the "shadow god".

With the recent animation, I feel like we have our answer.
In the little drama performance, "Charlie" promises the mirror that she will "fix" it; in the new animation we see that Charlie fixes the gateway and finally meets with THEM; and since the play is deliberate in using the word THEM to describe what the mirror represents, I am sure that the mirror represents the gateway.
 
THEY:
Who are THEY? Well the term THEY, implies that there are multiple, and at least two. I believe that THEY are the self-proclaimed gods of the Constant who the ancients worshiped:
- "Alter", is the god of light, his domain is the moon and his army is formed from Gestalts; he is the god of "Change".
- The other fellow, well the game doesn't have a name for him, as he only has been revealed now; he is the black eye that looks from the gateway, god of darkness, and his army is formed from Shadows. If "Alter" is the god of "Change", then this one has to be the "Constant".
 
The narrative Klai has been telling us:
Moon vs Shadows
"Good" vs "Evil"
Both sides have a connection to sanity, both try to control the mind of others. Both do a good job with manipulation: "Alter" made the survivors assemble his altar and thus reawoke himself; while "Constant", first used Maxwell and now Charloe, to gain their trust promising power if they would free him. And their plans worked, both entities are awake!
So, two gods just awoke from a long slumber and are fighting each other due to a dispute for power over the world.
This is what Klai has been showing us... But what if it is just what we are meant to think? What if this light vs dark is all just for show, while in reality, the two gods are in cahoots? After all, this is all just a play, a play for which both sides have been setting the stage...
 
An alternative perspective on THEM:
If you think about it, those two are just two sides of the same coin: The moon has two sides - the one we see, and one in the shadows.
In the Hamlet DLC during a blood "moon", we can see the shadows being in control with the presence of the ancient herald. During a full moon, pig heads drop nightmare fuel. But from the story Klei has shown us, it makes no sense, if the moon is part of the "Alter" domain.
Well, I think, that THEY are working together. I believe this whole war, is nothing but a setup; and the fact that "Constant" left immediately after Charlie freed him without saying "hi" suggests that THEY have a different plan in mind, from the one that Charlie thought.
Recently I read the book "American Gods" by Neil Gaiman, and I think there is an interesting parallel (SPOILERS ALERT):

It is a great book, highly recommend it if you didn't read it. The main plot revolves around a war between gods, old gods from religions in whom humanity once believed; and new gods from the present, like WiFi, TV, Internet, to whom we sacrifice our time. The book shows how the two sides hate each other, killing each other for survival. But by the end of the book, it is revealed that the whole war was set up by the leaders of both sides, who decided that they are running low on sacrifices, and a war where gods will sacrifice each one in the name of their leaders, will fulfill their needs.

Now, I am not saying that DST will be similar; but I am sure that "Alter" and "Constant" are working together. Their first goal was to gain a physical form once again because somehow in the past they were sealed and their powers stolen. With the last couple of updates, they finally did it, they have regained some of their power.

But what is the true plan? I have no idea, but I can't wait to find out!

All this doesn't mean the war is fake too; I am certain, that the Gestalts and the Shadows hate each other, and that they have no idea what their lords have in store. Just like the rivalry between Charly and Wagstaff is completely honest, they two have their intentions, ones we can only speculate on.

Closing thoughts:

1. I believe, based on the amount of new content Klei is working on; the final Arc update will also be the "final" one for DST as a whole.

2. Alongside the evidence I presented in my other theory about little drama, I am certain that the "mirror" is the ancient gateway; and for thematical reasons, I think the Shadow god's true name is "Constant".

3. "Alter" and "Constant" are in cahoots, with the war between dark and light being a setup in their little play. Their real reasons are hidden from us, for now.

But that is just my interpretation of Charlie fixing up the gateway, just a theory! To know the truth, we just have to wait and see what Klei has been boiling in that pot for us :]

I need help to solve this old DST Forgotten Knowledge Puzzle.

I really like to collect old puzzles with which the players were pleased by the developers. All information about them is on the wiki. I completely dismantled the puzzles from the Don't Starve trailers and the William Carter puzzle. Now I will analyze Forgotten Knowledge Puzzles. It would be easier for me to parse it if many sites related to the puzzle had not been removed for some reason. The same goes for forums. It looks like the huge one where people discussed and sorted out the puzzle has been removed and all that's left of it is a couple of pages that can only be viewed using the wayback machine.I will talk about what I managed to find and disassemble, but I feel that some pieces of the puzzle are eluding me. Here are the resources from where I learned about how the puzzle is played: 

Part 1

At the bottom left we see the notation, which allows you to understand how to measure the distance. Thanks to this, one of the users lined the map.

The frequent mention of birds and the number 17 allows us to understand that the clue lies in them. In the game at that time, birds appeared that flew in and brought paper. If you examine the paper, the player will say the coordinates. Here are all the coordinates that could be obtained.

The origin of the coordinate point must be taken where it is on the Wilson map. Here's what I got.

Coordinate number 2 leads nowhere, which is why we get a total of 16 items. We need to have an input that since we are looking for items for crafting, we need to know not the object to which the coordinate leads, but the resource that can be obtained from it. And so our answer is: 8 rock, 4 silk and 4 berries. However, we should have 16 items. In the skull24 video and in a small piece of the forum, you can understand that the correct answer is 8 rock, 5 silk and 4 berries. However, unfortunately the site archive does not accept any of the answers.

Additional information:

The original forum states that their initial answer was 7 rock, 5 silk and 4 berries. Either I managed to make a mistake 2 times, or they also encountered an error, but did not remember where, and therefore decided that the original answer was 7 rock, 5 silk and 4 berries. Which is strange since they have a forum. Despite this, they had an explanation for where another coordinate disappeared: "The first number on each note corresponds to a Greek letter, as per this chart. We assume that 70, 80, 90, and 500+ are not used. Vau, or 6, is an obsolete character. So, the last note is either 9 or 200. Someone discounted 200, but I'm not sure why, as sigma is still in use.". Also, if you look at the game logs, when the player examines the coordinates, it says "It's Greek to me". I also have to remind you that the coordinate number 2 does not lead anywhere, and perhaps this was a mistake by the developers.

Part 2

We see two input fields. If we go into the code of the page, we will find an ASCII image of the Antikythera mechanism there. Or we should find it there, because for some reason I did not find it in the archive files. This is supposedly the correct answer. However, if we enter it into an archive site, we get nothing.

Part 3

After that, we should get to the third site.

It differs from the past only by the inscription on top. Now it says "Not crazy" 12 times. 2nd, 6th and 10th time the letter C is written in italics. Also, the two input fields in the files are referred to as "alone" and "together". The background for the puzzle is named "wish-upon-a-star.jpg". Unfortunately, my further investigation came to a standstill. Here is some information I found out:

  1. Previously, Greek something was very often mentioned ... For example, the mechanism mentioned earlier is ancient Greek. When studying the coordinates in the logs, it says "It's Greek to me". If we compare the 2nd, 6th and 10th numbers with the ancient Greek numbers, we get Beta, Zeta, and Kappa. These 3 symbols are able to indicate the level of brightness of a star.
  2. According to some information from the Internet, when people wish upon a star (Wish upon a star is the name of the background image) people are actually wishing upon Venus.
  3. In certain Greek stories Zeus believed if they were every separated chaos would reign, (Together and Alone)
  4. The correct answer to the puzzle is Castor and Pollux. What is Castor and Pollux? Well, these are the stars of the constellation of twins, the only ones that fall into the Beta category.
  5. It must all be connected somehow...

I also learned the information that somewhere and in some way the points must connect in such a way that the constellation of twins would turn out. I tried everything, but nothing worked.

I'm starting to go "Crazy". I don't understand how the puzzle should be solved. All these inconsistencies and remote forums and sites only complicate the situation. As if something obvious and simple is slipping through my hands. I don't understand what I need to do next... Help. Perhaps there are people here who solved this puzzle in their time and know how it should be solved. Or can someone help discover the answer. Perhaps one of the old developers remembers how this is solved. Because my sanity is at 0 after learning this and nightmares start biting my leg.

urgent adittion to the scrapbook

With the exception of the little red explosive dot that leave one of the new nightmare creatures, the scrapbook does not indicate if an enemy deals plannar dmg or if it has plannar defense, in the case of the deadly brightshades there is not even a page for them.

After the introduction of the new armors, the boxers and the scrapbook, figuring out plannar stats and managing enemies with them is defenetly more of a fun thing to do, and i understand the scrapbook is a work in progress but i think to have this information in game is a priority.

And related to this i think is worth to mention that the scrapbook needs to have a "mechanics" page, here is an explanation of what i mean.

Plannar resistance is a mechanic of dredastone armor, brightshade armor and void armor. dreadstone helmet for example offers 5 plannar resistance, which block 5 plannar dmg, and dreadstone armor also has 5 plannar resistance, but here is the catch, it stacks.  so wearing the full set gives you 10 plannar resistance.

Stackable armor that doesnt work on percentages is something that while posible to discover by the our own, and with the scrapbook certainly helping, still being quite unintuitive.

Maybe the message that says that these armors have plannar resistance if clicked could show a new page that explains this mechanic.

This could also work for other mechanics like insulation, you click on the test and another message appear with "this items makes you lost temperature slower".

Making the new gear fun (without power creep)

It's clear that Klei doesn't want the new gear to be straight upgrades to existing gear, which is honestly fine with me, but I think there's a lot of room for creativity in utility added to the gear, without it being overbearing to the meta. For example.

Brightshade helm: Visibility in storms/miasma. This buff already exists. It does replace desert goggles, but those were never mass produced in the first place. Unlike the helm, the goggles can be repaired, and doesn't lose durability due to combat. Desert goggles also provide heat resistance, and a small sanity boost, unlike the helm.

Other ideas...

Brightshade armor: Small light radius. Competes with magiluminesence, but loses the movement speed bonus.

Void cowl: Reduced aggro range. Would work similarly to WX's interaction with clockworks. Would have no effect on mobs that are already aggroed, like hound waves.

Void cloak: Dash ability. Similar to Wortox's hop, but at a much shorter range. Would benefit both in mobility and dodging, but it also means you're moving around without a backpack.

In addition to being fun adjustments, they also play into the fantasy of the aesthetic, with the brightshade gear resembling a light-wielding paladin and the void gear resembling a rogue.
