Small jerky feels better than big jerky most of the time.

Some may already know this, and some may not. Small jerky is better than big jerky for sanity. Both overall give the same amount of hunger. Big jerky is better for the health. So unless u need hp from getting hurt in a battle, small jerky is more worth while as it is easier to get small meat.

Small jerky: 12.5 hunger, 8 health, 10 sanity.

Dries in 1 day. Also overall a lot easier to get cause frog legs, morsel, etc.

Big jerky: 25 hunger, 20 health, 15 sanity.

Dries in 2 days. A little harder to get but not that much. Big meat are from neutral mobs such as beefalo which attack back.

Lets say we have 2 drying racks for two of each sizes of jerky.

i put 2 morsel on 2 drying racks on the left. And 2 meat on 2 drying racks on the right. All at the same time.

Both the morsel finish drying one day for small jerky. Giving overall already 25 hunger, 16 health, and 20 sanity. Big meat requires 1 more day. After eating or storing the small jerky away put two more small jerky.

2nd day. Both the other two morsel and two big meats have turned into jerky.

The 4 total small jerkys: 50 hunger, 32 health, and 40 sanity.

The two big jerkys: 50 hunger, 40 health, and 30 sanity.

This is how the two sizes contrast from each other. While they are completely opposite for health and sanity, small jerky gives 32 health while big jerky doesn't contrast with 32 sanity. Not a big difference but still every point counts.

I honestly find small jerky to be overall better than big jerky.

the reason why I'm I bought DST

is because of mods and then I just found out that you can't pick the character mod you wanted til the server admin allowed the "specific mod".. -_-

I hope they implemented it to be "general mod" in the future :v

"edit so people can understand and people would not be rude and rage like a kid."

this is only for server who allow mods and not in general.

a mod option for specific or general mode would be nice.

Seriously? Vote for world regenerate destroy most of my gameplay experience

$

Erm, okay I have to say sorry for my poor English(might let you can't understand some phrases), I am Chinese and a big fan of this game.

Well, I totally satisfy with the Vote "Rollback and Kick" section in public server, but world regenerate? Omg

Today I joined a server at winter day 34, the server had only one guy is surviving, and his base just right close to the portal, so I got settled down there, and then my friend also joined the server, we totally had fun of raiding dragonfly, exploring cave, establishing camp in ruin.

BUT!BUT!

Suddenly there is a bunch of new guys coming in, we share them base, of course it is very close to portal, so we have to share anyway, but more like giving them the base, cause most of the time we are not in the base, that base is very basic one, has flingo, birdcage, firepit, alchemy machine and some farms, quite enough for surviving through.

And One day in the summer I just came back to the base, birdcage is gone, I ask why, somebody tell me it was burnt down(will things made of gold really burnt?), well, it is not a big problem, so I went away and not giving any **** on that. After I went back again, all the chests are gone, I asked why, somebody told me burnt, Okay... I though 12 scale floors were totally enough to prevent fire spread, seems not enough for those newbies.

Finally, at last the farms also all burnt down even ice flingo protecting that area, totally ****ty and it is just autumn, then a guy(Don't know who is that brat)without asking, directly start a vote for regenerating world, my friends and I totally ****** up, we were raiding dragonfly at that time, 3 of us vote No, and 5 of newbies vote yes, u know... we've played so long, but just bunch of new guys start a vote like that, we got to restart everything, and we totally have no more mood, it is just second early autumn, although base burnt down(Still have alchemy machine and some buildings), they still can find their own resources and establish a better base, but they chose the worst way, regerenate the world, same start by autumn, and 3 of us with 50days gamplay are all gone, and the inventory(our items were very enough to recreate everything) too.

This is actually not my first time experience, like third or more than it, I really think this "vote for regenerating world" button should be put at the timing when everybody is dead to appear, for faster way to regenerate instead of waiting 180seconds, and also the guy who start the vote(whatever it is for) should be named, let others know who is him, cause sometimes there are boring guys(really lame) like to keep voting for regenerate world or kick people without reason, kind of annoying, just spamming the vote, we don't know who is that just let him continue spamming the weird vote, even sometimes ppl didn't realise what is that and just click yes? I think this really need to be solved.

Opps, by the way, don't tell me to start a private server, cause I'm lovin playing with public friends, my server and computer graphic not that good to contain ppl play together so, I just hope this can improve the gameplay experience for all who really tasted that feelings deeply. All of works with more than 4hours just vanish in 20 seconds and caused by new comers.

I decided to check the cyclum page for...dunno......puzzling nostalgia? and I realized not only the puzzle is up, but the http://cyclum.dontstarvetogether.com/submitAnswer is up too, why the same "not ready" message in there

Is this related with all the "It has just begun" thing people talked about during the puzzles?

Does anyone know the command to play an animation, and how to find animations in the files with the appropriate build, sg, and bank already there? I'm using a mod to play as a depth dweller, and I would like to go invisible, uninvisible, and then play the command of it coming down from the ceiling.

[Game Update] - 186853

*sigh*

So, where can I start? Today, I joined a very nice server, with nice people. They gave me gold, flint, and rocks to start, then I was ready to build my own base in the wilderness. At first, I didn't want much people to join my base, because of griefers. But, while looking for spiders, I met this Maxwell and Willow who wanted to join me, and i'm that kind of person that can't say "no" to other people. So they helped me with the base. Then, After a couple days, a Webber joins, and asks desperately for me to pick him up, so I do. When I come back, though, I find a Wilson and a Wigfrid, just using my base. At first I wasn't happy, but then I realized that they just wanted to help. So I accepted them, too. My base was becoming a little community, I was happy. People kept joining and everything was going well. Until, another Wilson Joined, I will call him Wilson 2. He looked like a normal guy, he was helping, and everything. Then, that night, I saw all our farms burning. I wasn't so angry, since the Maxwell told me to look at the "bright side", since we had 38 ashes from those burned farms. After that, I had to go away from my PC for what, 30 seconds? And when I came back, the whole base was BURNING. Everything was destroyed... Everyone died because of the fire or because someone had stolen all the food. I was confused and I kept asking "Who did this?" Until that Wilson 2 tells me "i'll tell you a secret...",  Then he destroyed my ice box, and burned everything in it. I voted to kick him. And this brings me to the point of this post. What did the other players do when I vote-kicked him? They voted him to stay and vote-kicked ME instead. And all my friends had left, so I had nobody backing me up. This was really sad for me, because I always try to be a nice guy, I want to help people. If you ask me to join my base, I will always say "Yes, of course!". I'm a person that gets easily attached to other people, so I felt... Betrayed... Please tell me your opinions about all this, I will be happy to know what everyone else thinks!

The trade inn - yay or nay?

As it says on the tin.

I have developed a collection of skins, most of which I never use. I have already sent a bunch of the best ones like Maxwell's survivor head, Willow's triumphant and survivor clothes to friends... But I like to keep my inventory tidy. I doubt anyone wants these things, so I am considering burning them in the fires of the trade inn. The question is, do you think it's a sensible idea? I doubt someone will come and offer a trade for this stuff... and I got a bunch of commons to trade them with @captainchaotica, yet she changed the offer, so the situation is a tad pressing for me.

Frankensteining a Spider Model

$

As Webber is not included in the blind box set, I've thought about trying to make him a body. What I mean by that is I've thought about taking one of my extra spiders, using it as a head, and then making him a body out of Green Stuff (I commend those of you who know that that is), or maybe something else.

Has anyone else tried anything like this? I have some experience with doing similar things, but I'd rather not botch it and be down a spider if I can help it  :p

It would be better if Webber was just a special order case like Survival Wilson, but as that hasn't happened yet, I'm left to my own devices.

(DST) What is your best team combination?

$

I have been playing with a friend on DST for a while: I always choose Wendy and he always chooses Maxwell. We make an excellent match and we would like to know which combination of characters you guys prefer to use.

I play Wendy for 2 major reasons: a f*ckton of Monster Meat, and a f*ckton of silk. Let me explain.

Once the game starts, we search and scavenge until we find a convenient area near  ~2-3 spider dens grouped up together (pretty common) and set up a temporary base. I place a firepit among the dens, I fuel it up right before night, and I charge with a spear, a log suit and, of course, Abigail. She deals massive damage to spiders, the normal ones just get crushed in 3 hits (they have 100 health and Abigail does 40 dmg during night) and are stun-locked the whole time. Spider warriors (300 health) might pose a problem if Abigail get over encumbered by them, since they are stun-proof, and this is where the logsuit and spear comes in. With the player's help, Abigail can easily take out 3 max level spider dens during the night, which allows you to collect a large number of Silk, Monster Meat and Spider glands (expect fighting about 40 spiders in one fight). When the spider dens reach max level, I destroy them before the Spider Queen spawns to get the eggs and I relocate them to a better location, where we will set our permanent base.

With the monster meat, you can acquire lots of eggs with the use of a birdcage. This is useful, because you can basically live of only Monster Meat; in a crock-pot, you can put 3 eggs and 1 Monster meat to make Meatballs. If you get enough Monster Meat to convert into eggs, you can make them spoil to have a decent amount of spoiled eggs and craft some gunpowder to help you fight off Giants.

Once, at around day 15, we had more than 2 stacks of 40 silk in our chests, this is way enough to craft any item requiring silk. With the silk, you craft a ton of bird traps (if you place ~7 traps around your base, you won't even need to bait them) to gather some morsel to make some better food, such as Bacon and Eggs, my favorite. With the remaining silk, craft a Top Hat, and sanity usually won't be a problem, although summoning Abigail costs 50 sanity, in this case, use the remaining silk to craft some bug nets to farm butterflies or catch some bees to do the job for ya.

Also, spider glands won't be scarce. That's cool I guess.

My friend plays Maxwell just for the incredible amount of Boulders and Trees his minions can gather.

I'm basically in charge of food, while he's in charge of ressources.

Anyone else has a good character combination?

(Brotip: plant 6 flowers in an area, kill yourself, haunt the flowers until they are all Evil Flowers, and place some bees around them. Unlimited Nightmare Fuel for Maxwell.)

For the Love of all that is Holy

For the love of all that is holy, can was all please return the forums to what they were before? Back when they were focused around the game, and by that I mean the parts of the game that we enjoy. I know that there is always room for improvement with anything, but I swear, if I read one more thread solely complaining about minor mechanics that need fixing, pvp that needs rebalancing, or griefers that need blocking, my sanity is going to drop to 30. And we know what happens when one's sanity drops to 30. Could some things be tweaked? I'm sure they could. But are they necessary, or even objective? Not always. And despite what anybody thinks, other than making sure that the product we bought works, Klei owes us nothing. They are (in my opinion) an outstanding company that has more involvement with their customers and fans than most companies ever come close to. So for the love of all that is holy, please quit complaining about everything!

I know that I'm obviously complaining here, but I felt this needed to be said. In my experience (and I have been playing DS and DST for a good long while), the game runs just fine. So fine, in fact, that most of us players have fun playing it. So maybe, rather than trying to whine to the devs to make the game in your image, enjoy it for what it is! Talk about a novel concept.

And now I'm getting off of my soap box. Good day.

images.jpg

*Edit: Just to clarify, I'm not anti-improvement. I love it when things get polished/added, and I know that there are some things that could use some tweaks (whether the tweaks needed are objective or opinion based I'll leave you to decide). The point I'm trying to make is just to quit riding the devs like your prized beefalo, and leave them to work on it as they choose. They obviously haven't abandoned the game, so maybe turn it down a notch, eh?

Tips on how to be Courteous to Fellow Players

$
0
0

Now this thread is not meant to call anyone out, nor is it about venting your frustrations over mistakes noobs make. These are tips aimed more at showing ways of being considerate than improving your skill at the game.

I don't have a lot of time for playing computer games, so when I play DST I tend to hop on a random server and help out all I can before I have to leave (sometimes hosting my own server if I can't find one, which tends to be lonely), and I thought it would be nice to share ways I've found of not being a liability and not getting on peoples bad sides. I'd like to see other peoples tips too, in case there's some I've missed or just haven't thought of. So here's mine :3

  • Don't ask where the Base is Right After Joining: This one's simple, but it goes a long way in not annoying people. Now I know that when you first enter a server you want to know where you can come to at night to cook and spam the /dance emote, but be patient. If you aren't given directions or offered an escort, explore, gather some things, get your bearings. People will respect you more if you survive a few days before asking where the base is located. Who knows, you may even find it on your own!
  • Don't Pick Everything: When first entering one of the many randomly generated islands, our brains tend to immediately slip into PICK ALL THE THINGS mode, especially those of us who've spent a fair amount of time in the single player game. However, when playing in multipayer, one has to stop and think, "Hey, if I systematically pick every bit of flint, grass, twigs, and food from around the portal in a ten mile radius, then there won't be anything left for new players!" Please, be considerate. How can you expect new players to survive a few days if they can't even scrounge up enough for a torch?
  • Drop some Flint by the Portal: It's a small thing that'll help out people just entering the server. You don't even have to go out of the way to do it; if you happen to be pasing by the portal and have some flint to spare, just drop some by it, or make a pickaxe to leave behind so they can collect their own. Heck, I've heard of people making a chest by the portal containing equipment like torches, rabbit earmuffs, and pickaxes to help new players out.
  • Don't Enter in Winter or Summer: Pay attention to the day and season of the server you're joining. If you want to join in a difficult season for some extra challenge, go ahead. Just don't expect everyone to drop what they're doing to help you out.
  • If you don't want Strangers, set a Password: You'd think this one would be a no brainer, but I've heard a lot of stories of people joining servers just to be kicked the moment they enter. I assume it only happens when someone doesn't know that they can make a password for they're server, but still, it's rude.
  • Drop your Stuff Before you Leave: Before you leave a server, it's nice to drop your items on the ground so others can use them. If you're playing with familiar people on a server you know you'll be on again, you can keep your equipment. In any case it's still rude to leave with gears, a big stack of silk, or any other important items still in your inventory, selfishly taking them out of reach of the unfortunate players left on the server.
  • Keep Busy: Look around the base. Does it still need some drying racks? A crockpot? Some farms? Do the traps need to be emptyed? Are you low on wood? Look around for things that need to be done, and if you're having trouble finding something, it never hurts to ask. No one likes a leach.

The good, the bad, and the Willow

So I know that for a very long time that Willow has remained a fragile topic in Don't Starve Together, and I also know that many people are sick of hearing about this topic; however I feel that it's really important to discuss this.

A couple years ago, Willow remained as she was when converted from Singleplayer to Multiplayer, but her potential in PvP and such was fanominal. However, since her changes - She remained the undisputed least usable character in the game up till now. Some people had even said they'd prefer playing Wes over Willow.

I'm here to remedy this - Please remove her Sanity debuff and Willow won't be a liability anymore. I know some of you people will say "Well, her teddy bear helps with Sanity issues!" or even "Just carry a thermal stone and you won't freeze!". That's not the point. Why make a character who used to be so much fun to play, be nerfed so badly? It's just so unfortunate that even Wes, who was highly regarded as "Hard-mode" is more played then Willow, simply because her debuffs make her annoying to play as, and provides no real benefit. Naturally this was a huge blow to anyone who consistently played Willow and even loved her character. I'm not asking to add some special perk or add a new balance, but please just do us all a favor and make Willow a good character again by removing her sanity debuff.
