I propose that the War Saddle should be buffed to grant +17 damage. Maybe buff the Ornery Beefalo to deal 51 damage while we're at it.
I remember way back in the day when Beefalo Domestication came out, there was an item called the War Saddle. Back in the day, it gave your Beefalo +15 damage per hit. However, this was later changed to grant +16 damage instead because of the "50 damage sweet spot." Many mobs have health totals that are multiplies of 50. To name a few, Spiders have 100 hp, Hounds have 150 hp, and Pigs have 250 hp. Since a default Beefalo has an attack value of 34, it can 3 shot simple mobs such as spiders. However, with the War Saddle equipped, it will deal 49 damage, which leaves a spider at 2 hp after 2 hits, and a very sad Beefalo rider. By buffing the War Saddle to grant just 1 more point of damage, a default Beefalo would hit that "50 damage sweet spot" allowing it to 2 shot spiders, and 3 shot hounds.
Okay, that change made sense, so what's the point of this thread? Well, an Ornery Beefalo has an attack value of 50, which is nice because it hits that sweet spot. However, the point of domesticating an Ornery Beefalo is to do damage, so naturally, you would pair an Ornery Beefalo with a War Saddle. The problem is, this combination only brings the Beefalo's attack value to 66. This just misses the "67 damage sweet spot" that is required to deal 200 damage in 3 hits. This makes it rather inefficient to attack mobs with health totals that are a multiple of 200. For example, attacking a Bunnyman with a default Beefalo equipped with a War Saddle would take 4 hits, but also takes 4 hits using an Ornery Beefalo equipped with a War Saddle. The Bunnyman will be left with 2 hp after 2 hits, and once again, you're a very sad Beefalo rider.
However, we can fix this issue by once again buffing the War Saddle to grant 1 more point of damage. This allows the Ornery Beefalo War Saddle combo to hit that "67 damage sweet spot."
While we're at it, can we also increase the Ornery Beefalo's attack to 51? Just so it fits in line with most other weapon attack values. If you haven't noticed, most weapons deal damage based on the number 34 (which is the 3 hit sweet spot). Spears do 34 damage, Axes do 27.2 damage (0.8*34), Tentacle Spikes deal 51 damage (34*1.5), Dark Swords deal 68 damage (34*2), even the Morning Star fits into this pattern with its 43.35 damage (34*0.85*1.5; the 1.5 damage multiplier is due to the electric damage modifier).Raising the Ornery Beefalo's attack to 51 will put it in line with the Tentacle Spike, and when combined with a War Saddle, be equivalent to a Dark Sword's damage.
So yeah. That's all I'm asking for, Klei. Just a +1 damage increase.
