Hi ya'll, after my webber thread went ok I promised a warly one this weekend in the warly problems thread....
This time I'm going to pace myself with ideas and give my branch ideas and mostly leave the branches unfilled, only posting refined ideas for each branch after a few days after people have had time to give suggestions (Aside from one I fleshed out but not completed in advance.)
My reasons for this are threefold: To keep a healthy pace that lets me work on other projects more, and that we will get much more thought out ideas if I make more of the tree out of skills that highlight everyones ideas, as well as lastly: Less text in the original post means I'm less likely to burn peoples eyes out! It makes for a better gradual read.
So basically I have four key branch ideas:
-
Magicien des Arômes: Learn to use food based bats (Ham bat/bat bat) better than other characters through spicing the bats, learn to craft miscellaneous magic foods which don't belong elsewhere, and appetizers which are like cantrips in a wizards spell kit.
- Appetizers make you hungrier in exchange for instantly meaningful effects, they use fewer ingredients then a full course meal. Anyone can eat them, but only Warly and a specific friend get the strongest effect with each appetizer.
- I have five skills here to start the discussion, but that's all I will post today. My appetizer for everyone.
-
Community Center: Learn to delegate certain tasks to demihumans you teach useful kitchen staff skills, turning them to distinct kitchen staff characters with their own stations and abilities. Cater to animal monarchs for special powers and rights. Learn to craft useful cultural items from the various demihuman cultures of the constant you interact with (bunnymen, pigmen, powder monkeys...)
- The idea draws from warly studying in to be a chef and bringing his skillset home to tend to/care for his relatives. He tells stories of his various staff as well, so why wouldn't he start over again?
-
Artisan Extraordinaire: Make unique low rate low maintenance food sources, magic dishes that are useful in day to day life using unusual stuff like weeds, new fillers like lightbulbs. Ideally I'd imagine this acts as warly's grab bag, a collection of no dependency skills which act like walters scouting skills. Useful, no dependency skills that let you get meaningful value when you save points in other skill tree branches.
- Warly is a man of many small hungers, many low skill warly's get trapped farming forever, slow rate low maintanance food sources would put warly in a state where he could play around his gimmicks more without feeling the longing to farm the fields.
- The idea would be to draw inspiration from soulful inexpensive foods, and sustainable farming/gardening practices. (And maybe his life as an accomplished butcher/foraging/whatever.)
-
Volt Whisperer: Learn to care for voltgoats and gain their resources via non-combat means. Ride the goat, stew the lightning!
-
Warly's claim to power is half mixed in with volt goats, it calls into his gameplay legend so well.

Feel free to suggest alternative branches or strike any idea down, its just that this foundation I feel lets us reach every aspect of warly's character people might want to reach. From his gameplay history, to his character as a person as is shown to us by klei in their animations, and to the basic idea of a character who loves food.
Sort of the full flavor pallet of everything Klei has chalked him up to be.
Magicien des Arômes starter skills. (Ideally there would be more)
-
Seasoned bats: You may season ham and bat bats with your four seasonings, salt repairs the bats with a limited number of uses (Shown as the bats getting crusty,) bats which are at the maximum number of salt charges enter a crusted state where they swing slower and do more damage, where as the other spices have unique and mutually exclusive effects that are stronger for Warly.
- Honey Makes bats slow the spoilage/durability loss of a bat and makes them immune to rain slippage, Spicy bats do additional elemental damage when the users's internal body temperature far from ambient temperatures, and Garlic bats gain a block which redirects damage to hunger which may be used every few seconds.
- Warly gains an attack speed bonus with honeyed weapons. Warly applies the elemental effects in an area with spicy weapons and can use spicy attacks to recover from dangerous temperatures. Warly's food buffs regain duration after a successful garlic block.
-
Simple Starters: Learn to cook the most basic of appetizers. Appetizers take fewer ingredients then main dishes, and are special foods increase your hunger but grant useful powers. Eating an appetizer while warly has a distaste for more than 3 dishes will make him forget his distaste for the dish he has gone the longest without eating.
- Sunlight (Something puffy): Learn to create a (Something) that warms the soul. Makes the eater a source of warmth and resist overheating (+10 overheating threshold,) when warly or wormwood eat this plants in the vicinity will act like they are in sunlight even in total darkness. Refreshes the duration of glowberry effects.
- Rousing Rangoon: Learn to cook a distinct wobster delight. Gain a temporary inventory of 3 (6 for warly or wickerbottom) slots from your lifted spirits. This inventory lasts for 6 minutes and comes with a slight hunger rate penalty. Items are dropped when the inspiration fades.
- Charming (Something rich and meaty): A puff which makes passive animals less scared of you, makes animals leave their dens, fish schools/birds spawn more often. Enhanced effect for warly and wigfrid, allowing them to almost reach over and pick up small animals for a few seconds after eating.
-
(Something clever for combat appetizers): Gain a number of appetizer which are are eaten quickly and give useful effects that can be used in battle.
Gain an amount of health when eating appetizers near full hunger.- (Come up with a funny word for fuming) Croquet: A popper which causes a flavor explosion, knocking the user back away from where they are facing, and doing a some amount of damage to nearby enemies for warly and wx, who also recover from the blast faster.
- Sliding Sorbet: A popper which grants an immunity to negative terrain effects like ice, webs and swamp, and warly and wilson gains ice style acceleration on all terrain that grants a small speed boost. Gain further improved acceleration on actual ice.
- Slaking (Some sort of chilled drink): A drink that causes a fog cloud around the user. Enemies in the fog are considered wet, players in the fog are protected water based slippage/sanity loss and are temporarily granted 33% psudeo wetnesss, and plants in the fog gain hydration over time. Warly and wurt cause small enemies to lose aggro temporarily when making a fog cloud.
- (Not a skill but a passive bonus): Some appetizer combos may gain increased effect when working together. Slaking+Sliding can create icy floor, refresh glacers from puddles and the like. I don't have enough ideas here yet.
-
(Serving tray): Gain a serving tray which can hold up to six appetizers, shift+123456 corrisponds to the slots of the first serving tray in a players inventory to quick eat appetizers.
- Ideally other character storage items could gain this sort of functionality where if you remember whats in them there is a button combo to quick access their first few slots.
