The Gnaw Sub Alignment

This is an idea for a third sub alignment for Wurt's skill tree that could replace either the sensible swamp fighter or swamp pathfinder skills and would not be mutually exclusive with one of the other alignments. The Gnaw alignment would allow Wurt to summon Merms from across the land, like Merm King, at the cost of hunger.

This is how I imagined the skill would work:

  • You must have 5 skills unlocked, including at least 2 of the Merm king's quests skills.
  • Choosing this skill will give Wurt a higher hunger drain.
  • You will have a small cap of Merms to summon, and these Merms would be summoned all at once not one at a time.
  • The skill will cost you lots of hunger to summon and if you don't have enough, summoning will not be possible.
  • These Merms cannot interact with the shoddy toolshed/ armermry but they can wear regular helmets and benefit from king's blessings.
  • These Merms would also be permanently loyal to you until they de-spawn and can only be summoned once per day.
  • Pre Merm King, you would have access to 4 regular merms only, this would cost an enormous amount of hunger and would only last for maybe a few minutes.
  • Post Merm King, you can now summon only Merm Guards but the number of Merms summoned will be reduced to 3. However this would cost less hunger and would last for longer, say half a day maybe.

And that's it. I didn't want to make it too powerful or unreasonable, just something to use in a pinch, mainly for early game. Perhaps this skill is unnecessary but at the very least it would allow for The Gorge to be referenced again in Don't Starve Together.
