I decided to log in dst, decided to play wilson, i even took torch toss and durability to see if i could prove my previous statements wrong, night comes in, i proudly take my torch... oh, a ******* tree lasting the whole night with 4x my torch radius and being hands free, it was useless and i go back to home screen.
i decided to play woodie and HOLY CRAP, the skill tree allows me to pick everything faster, fly around the map, make a walking cane??? lunar affinity makes his downsides non existent and i can summon tree guards. this was just better than wilson, beard is useless! torch is useless! transmutations are worthless close to this!
i finally understood, DST isn't the same anymore, characters are able to delete their downsides and obtain insane valuable skills, through skill trees. Wilson is not up to par, he isn't the gentleman scientist, he is a nerfed version of every character with a skill tree.
his skill tree has to be completely reworked, new paths to spend points, new skills, get more for less cost and become a true scientist (of course within the reality that wilson is much more of an inventor with unethical tendencies).
We are giving characters mercy ults and portable dwarf stars and walking canes and living tree spawners, if wilsons gimmick was supposed to be having no downsides im sorry to say but that has not the same value it once had because characters are loosing their downsides with skill trees.
id love to see ideas on what the gentleman scientist should be able to do, so he is on par with everyone. Dealing with the most common beginner hassles? actually useful transmutations? exclusive and unethical inventions? basically a crazy wagstaff wannabe. there is a guy with a lot of ideas out there that talked about strapping explosives to rabbits, that would be AWESOME.
Share your opinion on what your view of wilson's balancing is, i personally think he is not up to modern DST standards and has to be changed, a new player would pick him for being basic and an experienced player for being useful.
