There is one feature of Maxwell's puppets I'm more than unhappy with: the idle despawn timers. Yes, they're disposable and that is something I like about them now. But with the way it is currently implemented makes them somewhat difficult to use - and is honestly getting on my nerves.
I have made posts about this before but deleted them due to my embarrassing misunderstanding about them. I genuinely thought it was a bug until I read closer in the one of the change notes. [Game Update] - 529754, - "Increased idle despawn timer for all Shadow Minions to 10 seconds." Knowing full well it's a feature, I'd like it changed somehow.
To any who are unfamiliar with how they work: here's how I understand it.
- Each Shadow Duelist and Shadow Servant have a radius threshold before the timer starts. That radius is the work/guard area which is used to sense its owner.
- If you are within their work/guard area, the puppet will not activate its own idle despawn timer and will wait out to the end of its lifespan.
- If you exit out of their work/guard area, the idle despawn timer activates. The timer is 10 seconds before they fall over and die unless you walk back in, though sometimes it cuts short (can't figure out why).
- However, if they are working or attacking something even if you are outside of their work/guard area, the idle despawn timer will not be triggered until they're finished or made to perform another task. They essentially have to be standing around doing nothing for the timer to kick in.
So instead of one voice arguing against thousands in a messy thread, I'm putting out a poll to see what other people want or how they feel about it to keep it organized. I'm fine with majority vote, even if against mine, but I at least wanted to bring this up.
