what about giving "befriended" spiders special powers?

There's currently no reason to use spiders other than nurses or spitters. So here's my 2 cents : What about giving a special ability to "befriended" spiders? There's so many possibility : Avoid attack based on rng, Slow down enemy, reduce enemy's attack damage, AoE attack or defense buff, so on. This rework really improve Webber, but it feels like missing great opportunity of interesting combat experience.

Lucy the Axe rework to Karen the Axe

I just wanna say that Lucy the Axe is really loud and worthless. I've been playing the game as Woodie for quite some time but I wanna ask is there a rework for her? If not can we just rename her as Karen? Since she's only talks a lot and really loudly annoying.

A regular Axe's damage is 27.2 and the damage of the Karen the Axe is 13.6.

Although Lucy has infinite durability. It doesn't make sense that her damage is low.

That's all I wanna ask.

i just was playing around random worlds just to see something interesting and well i dit found something interesting the dev grave on top of the oasis dont ask me of the world seed i deleted that world before i could see it but i think there is a message from klei it says "dont always base in oasis" to all those oasis basers wich luckly dont effect me

Wormwood Saga: Day 3000+ Megabase Tour

Hello, folks!
A few days ago I decided it was time to retire my long-running Wormwood world, which I had started all the way back in December with the release of the Reap What You Sow update.

Woodie Goose form

Hii this is a simple ideia but i think it's good and will not make woodie OP or anything like that... i was wondering if would be a good ideia if goose form could pick and handle at least one item in his mouth because he's only usefull to find the islands on the ocean or exploring ruins because he has night vision but making him able to hold one item in his mouth would make very usefull to bring itens from ocean like bottles or seaweed.

It's just an ideia in my oppinion wood it's amazing and perfect balanced moose form can't beat any usefulls boss alone(just the easy ones)  but it's good to farm enemies. Wereabever it's usefull to chop and dug trees without summoning tree guardians and this two forms are usefull all game but Goose loose his utility very soon i don't think anybody use goose form to reach at one place fast since in first days we are collecting resources so walking in goose form prevents you from doing that and after winter walking Cane beats goose speed so there's no good reason to use him(maybe if your want to cross the lakes to short your path...) but as i said it's only an simple ideia...

Just wondering. Been also wondering if (in case DST will live long enough) someday there will be a second refresh wave, after this one is over. It's a concept for several years ahead still though, and I doubt it will be the case.

By "Rework" I mean a full update, like we had with Webber last month. 

By "QoL update" I mean small changes, like Wormwood's forced bloom in RWYS update.

Feel free to specify the characters and explain your reasons, don't forget to behave during the discussion.

What gameplay purpose does the Rigamajig serve?

I have noticed one significant flaw with the new farming system and that is the sole purpose of the Rigamajig. New players don't always seem to understand that is what you need to start up a crop farm, probably because if you ever glanced at the thing in the farming menu it just sounds like a strange thing that you don't need to worry about. First I thought it looked like something that would do a bulk of tilling for you if you pulled on it. You want to have special farm tiles that look nice and are designated for tilling, but why this? Extra initial cost? I suppose it stops people from just being able to randomly spreading till bits around regular tiles to prevent some extra possible performance issues, but Wormwood can already plant crops here, there and everywhere. Is the Rigamajig really the best approach?

Character Commentary Appreciation [DST]

So, I, as a newer player (I only have been playing DST for a few months now), main Winona, and I just have to say that I love her in-game quotes. Whenever I play, I literally go out of my way in some of my worlds just to examine something to see what her comment on it will be. I just highly appreciate how her character shines through her words (and another plus is the fact that some hint at possible lore, which I'm assuming most people know already).

Recently, I have begun to explore some more characters as well (Wilson and WX-78), and I find Wilson's quotes (though quite a bit of it is simply saying what the item does, from what I've seen) to be adorable, and WX-78's quips are just downright hilarious to me. I'm planning on trying out Walter and Wigfrid soon, too.

I'm just going to share a few quotes that I can remember off the top of my head, and I encourage you guys to do the same! I don't think I have explored enough of this community to know exactly how much people have really stopped to appreciate the writing the developers have not only put into the characters' stories, but the writing simply put into developing their personalities too. 

Winona:

  • any of the pun quotes 
  • (boulder) "Mhm, yep. That's a rock."
  • (some tree, can't remember which one) "Yep. Definitely a tree."
  • (red cap) "Let Max try it first."
  • (hot dragon chili salad) "Can't believe Warly's got me eatin' salads."
  • (carrying a marble sculpture... sometimes) "Like eggs in coffee!"

Wilson:

  • any of the pun quotes
  • (redbird in inventory) "He likes my pocket."
  • (closed eyebone, meaning Chester's dead) "It went to sleep."
  • (Woby) "It's a scientific fact that petting a good dog will improve your day.
  • (evergreen) "It's all piney."
  • (rose) "To match my rosy cheeks."

WX-78

  • (talking to the plants) "I'M NOT TALKING TO YOU." "THIS IS ME NOT TALKING TO YOU."
  • (I think a feather...?) "WHY IS THE FEATHER SO APPEALING? EXPLAIN NOW, FLESHLINGS."
  • (science machine) "MOTHER?"
  • (burnt crockpot) "POT MALFUNCTIONING."
  • (something burning, can't remember what) "IT'S BURNING. OH WELL."
  • (rabbit earmuffs) "I WILL UTILIZE THEIR FURRINESS."

All in all, appreciation for the characters' quotes (Wes may not have quotes, but he still has his pantomimes! ^v^)

Rolling back after your last save.. nullifies your over-all progress?

So.. I was merrily playing on a friend's server, both preparing for CK fight. Well, I actually was preparing for CK fight veeery merrily, aka while being irl drunk; hence I was dragging on, with Spring almost finished (while I thought Spring just started-or-somethin'). An honest happening, mind you! So both me and not-so-merrily friend by now (since I was stumbling around, in circles, pretty hammered) decided best course of action would be to load earliest save. Which was... 5 in-game days ago (wasn't some KLei Update statement somewhere that we now have "unlimited saves"? Or one needs to mark something on newly-generated worlds, while old world still "benefit" from 5-save-slots system?!). Anyway, then the "big brain" moment hit: what if, bear with me here, WHAT IF.. on that "earliest listed save" we rollback further?! Once more: "unlimited saves" should apply to old server, right? RIGHT?! And then, well.. the pictures below are worth 1000 words (of swearing?):

When world loaded after that last-save-available rollback, we were at character-selection screen. When picked and popped in world, all our progress, personal items and whatnot we had on us were "magically erased". At least world and world builds seem intact, but all our personal character progress, researches, builds etc are gone.

The main question now: is there a way to somehow revert this? Frankly, I reckon not, since we haven't backed-up the world, but... hope dies last.

Lastly: is this a bug? Sure looks like one. Anyone encountered it?

PS: "unlimited saves" probably doesn't mean.. unlimited save-slots, does it?!

Hello fellow Forum Members! Those of you who've been around for a while probably remember this topic made by @MenaAthena:

It was pinned for quite a long time, however, it has been removed some time ago, I guess in the last year at some point.

I really liked the tips Mena gave, they can be the backbone of a healthy and friendly community. I (still) play quite often on public survival servers with random players of every skill level and these tips are still very actual. "Don't ask where the Base is Right After Joining" (a classic, heh :D), "Don't Pick Everything", "Don't Enter in Winter or Summer" or "If you don't want Strangers, set a Password" are some of the most important and relevant ones and my favourites (in fact, there's been a rant on the latter topic on steam lately (again)).

Does anyone know why this topic got un-pinned? Maybe because it got archived? I think it is still worthy of being on the top of the general forums, so that new players can find it as well. Could we get it back in some way?

FPS Problems

Hello survivors!

My friend is struggling with FPS problem for like month. His FPS cant reach value of 60, he always has around 30 +-. He has these problems no matter on which server he plays. He already reinstalled his game but guess what - no change. Weird is, that he has on regular Dont Starve  normal 60 FPS (i know that DST is more difficult to run yada yada yada...) + Good to mention that he wasnt struggling with these problems normally. Thanks in advance for any help.

How do I get my gate to open the other direction

My gate is opening towards my enclosure when I want it to open away from my enclosure. No matter where I stand when I place it, no matter which angle I have the camera when I place it, it always seems to open the wrong direction. Is there a button to press to flip direction? I'm using a playstation controller.

Most of the Webber rework doesn't seem to work as expected (Analysis, suggestions and Complaints)

So as a Webber main, after I playing New Webber for a while, I began to feel that the rework wasn't as good as it should have been, Webber himself does not seem to have been much improved or changed. Rework showed some great concepts, but the implementation of them went awry in all sorts of ways. So I created this topic to try to analyze why and give valuable feedback.There may be bugs or design omissions, they interaction led to Webber's situation so I won't try to separate them here. 

Personally, I'm slightly disappointed with the rework and hope there will be more tweaks to make it better.

Start with Den decorating set, apparently this item was added to help Webber's spider get along better with other characters... and it doesn't work.

  • The soothing area of a spider's nest is much smaller than the spider's activity range (If I remember correctly, this range will be expanded in the spring),when they are out of range, they attack the player and walls like normal spiders.
  • Even though the spider den has been decorated, Abigail and the Giant Bernie still attack the spiders, characters also attack spiders first when the player presses F (including Weber), that would immediately undo Webber's work.
  • Decorations fall off when a spider is attacked. That's fine in itself, but having a source of damage out of the player's control that causes decorations to fall off is annoying. Like meteor,ghost during full-moon, cave rockfalls during earthquakes, Antlion, moongleam and god damn charged glassy rock. Wait why is charged glassy again? There's also wildfire and lightning, there's a bug where the spider's nest takes these damage and plays the animation of the decorations falling off, but the decorations don't real fall off. So I'm not sure what's going on.
  • Sanity Aura, putting a spider den near a base, or spending the night huddled around a fire with Webber  who leads a few spiders, is a huge loss of sanity.
  • Friendly spiders can even prevent other characters from opening skin gifts

Well, that doesn't mean the ornament is useless, even if it doesn't work perfectly, BUT

here some suggestion:

  • In addition to the range pacifying effect, spiders coming out of a decorated spider den will now be friendly neutral.
  • Abigail and the Giant Bernie stopped actively attacking the friendly spiders, all characters need to use 3.force attacks to attack friendly spiders.
  • Only an attack from mob or player will cause the decorations to fall off the spider den.
  • Friendly spiders and hired spiders no longer have Sanity Aura, even let hired some kind of spiders to provide sanity restoration.


Then, the spider. As a spider, Weber can't hire a lumberjack and a brute force beater. Instead, he hires a spider, what can spiders do? only fighting. This point has already been pointed out on another topic.
Returning to the matter of combat, the spider is not a good fighter, even when webber is present.

Spiders are poor at fighting alone. They work in groups. Think about a time when you were playing a game and the spiders were a threat to you. Mazes, spider forests, spider mines are all places where there are a certain number of spiders. Wenber is the same, only when a certain number of spiders gathered, they will have a combat advantage. For example, before Webber rework, the most common spider battle strategy (Except the civil war) was to use a large number of spiders to defeat the Bee queen, which required the use of the spider queen hat to focus spiders on the bee queen, because Webber can't hire a lot of spiders in a short time, and they consume a lot of meat.

After the bee queen squeaks every time, wear the spider queen hat and attack the queen with the ice staff. Leave the rest to the spider.

Now Webber has gained new powers: making switcherdoodle and wearing hats on spiders, which allow him to create special individuals in the spider swarm, it is obviously be added to improve the spider's combat ability. But as I said earlier, spiders work in groups, and the role of special individuals is too limited. For example, exception of Spitter, who has ranged attack abilities, no spider of any species can kill a pigman just because he's wearing a football helmet.


Beside, spiders have some weird little problems with being fighter:

  • They will immediately eat the meat that falls on the floor, even Guardian's horn or Deerclops eyeball. While whistling can prevent this from happening, the amount of time left for the player to react is too short.
  • The Shattered Spider's AOE attack will damage the other Spider and cause a Civil War.
  • Because of the skill release mechanism, a group of Nurse Spiders will often release their healers at the same time, wasting a lot of heals and watch their companions get killed the rest of the time. Also, if a spider gets into a civil war, it heals both sides of the spider at the same time, even the spider that is attacking it and the spider it is attacking.
  • Once you hire spiders, they don't sleep anymore, so you can't simply pick them up, carry them with you, or leave the game and go into the cave. As I said earlier, you often need a lot of spiders to get the job done, which can be a huge loss for Webber. And this is a bit odd, since the player is usually carrying a helpful friend rather than a wild animal, why are they not as useful as they were before they were hired, or are these spiders really willing to give their lives in battle for Webber rather than be hugged by Webber?

here some suggestion:

  • As was said in another topic, give the spider some ability to collect resources, which I thought would be neat considering Webber was a farm boy.
  • receive more switcherdoodle per crafting.
  • The nurse spider does not heal its target. If the nurse spider does not have a spider or Webber nearby to heal, or nurse spider will not use the healer. And their healing can heal other characters. (If they are hired)
  • Webber can just pick up the spider that is following him, whether the spider is sleeping or not.

Befriended spiders should be more effective when gathered in groups.

New to the forums! Obvious title aside, what I'm trying to say is similar to what I saw in a Half-Life analysis video by MarphitimusBlackimus on Youtube. In Half-Life, Houndeyes are more effective and deal more damage when they are in a larger group compared to being solo or in a small group. I thought a similar mechanic would be great for Webber and his befriended spiders, gaining some stat/stats like extra damage, faster attacks, or more health based on how many spiders are befriended. 

I feel that it could help spiders take on bosses/giants rather than simply being Giant fodder. I always imagined Webber being similar to the "follower" builds in games, utilizing pets to deal a majority of their damage like the Necromancer in Diablo II.

I made a similar statement on Cassielu's great post about the Webber refresh and wanted to see what others think.
